If you take your foods fried with a side of fries and fried okra, boy have I found the place for you! Should you ever find yourself in Tishomingo, OK, or anywhere within driving distance, get to Fish Tales immediately. Located on HWY 377, (or was it 99, I can't tell??) you'll know you're there because it's the only barrel-shaped metal building that has a fried catfish buffet. And get there early - this is *THE* spot in this part of the country for a weekend night out! You'll be met at the door by a long line full of warm smiles and sweet southern accents waiting for a seat at the family style tables. You'll pay first. The only thing on the menu is the buffet and that will include drinks and dessert. The walls are covered with pictures of local great catches from fishing trips worth bragging about, and signs with kitschy sayings like, "Hunters, Fisherman, and Other Liars Dine Here." And don't worry, this city girl has never been hunting or fishing but they fed me anyway! And feed me, they did... The buffet is a line of fried foods. I actually think EV.ERY.THING. hot on the line except the beans and red meat were fried. Yes, just as you were thinking, "Heavenly divine dining experience!" So, the catfish. Yowza. I'm not sure what they bread it with but I am fairly certain one of the ingredients was "awesome" and another was "delicious." The fish was flaky and flavorful and dipped in some delectable homemade tartar sauce. OH-HO-HO and the fries! Perfectly crisp and seasoned; they almost melted in my mouth. I'm a ketchup fan but found my tummy enticed by these babies, even without my favorite tomato-based dipping sauce. The fried okra could stand on its own. I dare say this could be Fried Okra Tales and just as successful a restaurant - it's that scrumptious. They have a side of jalapeño pork n beans that is out of this world. Yep. I just used "pork n beans" and "out of this world" in the same sentence! Also, jalapeño hush puppy was delish! So, that was your first plate. Now, head back to the line for brisket, ribs, coleslaw and potato salad. WOWEEWOWWA! The meat on the ribs just falls off the bone and again, melts in your mouth. You don't even have to waste time chewing. It's just fantastic, friends. Just. Fantastic. For round three, dessert - my favorite!! Every meal here comes with a piece of cobbler (or maybe it was pie, I skipped that part) and your very own little tub of Vanilla Blue Bell Ice Cream. Fact: My new standard for five stars will include getting a tub of ice cream as a part of my meal. This place was the best. I think my only complaint about Fish Tales is: it's a 7 hour drive from my house. Because it was so good, I may be making that drive on a regular basis...

By appearance- how can you not want to go?

Not a bad little place, and as you can see in the pic its in a big, metal, shop-like structure. I saw it on the way to camping and decided I was sooo going there on the way back. I've never been in a structure like this that wasn't used as someones workshop, so i just imagined pushing wrenches and belt sanders aside and sliding my stool up to some workbench to enjoy my meal. I was wrong- the place was drywalled, carpeted, and decently decorated with pictures of peoples local catches from the nearby river. Its a buffet- mainly southern deep fry style. I had my first hush-puppies and fried okra here. Not bad- i really liked the hush puppies. they had fried catfish, coleslaw (the good kind), and that sorta style of food. You get Blue Bell ice cream at the end too. I'm not usually a fan of traditional comfort foods like this, but that could be because the only ones I ever see are chains where everything is mass-produced and someone is strategically finding ways to create the food for less while neglecting the flavor. This place is just someone who probably likes to cook and wants to make some extra cash on the weekends. This is obviously a very local thing and when i was there it was packed. Its only open Fridays and Saturdays so who knows- this may be the what everyone looks forward to on the weekends. And with how sparsely populated the area is you know everyone there knows each other. I felt kinda out of place being a travel-thru. They're probably still saying "remember those strangers that came in here months back? ya, that was weird..." But seriously, everyone there, customers included, were super polite. You know how sometimes at buffets its real awkward when someone is there when you're getting food- that same sorta feeling when you're in an elevator with someone you don't know... well this place wasn't like that. They'd politely offer to let you go first, that sort of thing. Any, I'd rather go for 3.5* on this one.

They have several discounts you can use, and normally the line is not very long to get in. The staff was always very friendly and they catered to my dad who was in his upper 80s. They made a big deal about his birthday and even brought out a piece of cheesecake with a candle in it for him. And the ice cream man always made sure to give him an extra scoop of the strawberry that he loved. I'm not sure why anyone would leave a bad review because there's so much variety in the food there's bound to be something you like, and we always had a really good time there.

Unfortunately, our visit became very embarrassing due to how my wife was treated by staff. After being seated, we waited several minutes before our drink order was taken. During dinner, I briefly left for the gaming floor while my wife stayed behind to finish eating. A few minutes later, my wife called me upset because staff members were accusing her of not paying for her meal. When I returned, there were several employees surrounding my wife in front of the entire dining room. The hostess stated she did not recognize me, and the waiter, who had already served us multiple times, initially failed to remember us as well. My wife attempted to show proof of payment on her phone, but it would not load due to network issues. The waiter had also already removed the receipt from our table. After I reminded the waiter of our drink order and details from our service, he finally remembered us and confirmed we had paid. By that point, however, my wife had already been publicly embarrassed while numerous guests watched the situation unfold. We understand mistakes can happen, but the way this situation was handled was extremely unprofessional and humiliating. We hope this matter is addressed so future guests are not treated similarly.

Lol I immediately smile back and said well what am I paying for? She said the buffer. I told her that "it is our first time here. Sorry I did not know." I asked her if I could take a look first she said sure I did and the food looked fresh and everything seemed clean around it so we decided to give it a try. Everything is on disposable styrofoam plates and disposable utensils... I chose a small piece of the baked fish put a few small pieces of the fried fish, one, each of the two different hush puppies, about three fries of each type they had sweet potato, and regular russet, then I made a plate of salad, which had tabouli, which I was excited about potato salad, Caesar salad, regular salad and a beet. I also put about three boiled cold, shrimp, peel, and eat type on my plate. My husband tried most of everything as well. I am a condiment junkie, so I had to get a little bit of their cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and green tomatoes. In saying all of that, we were optimistic.. the fish is very very average. The tabouli was not to my taste there, the potato salad was spot on very tasty and flavorful. The round hush puppy was undercooked raw center it had potential had it not been under cooked . and the little tube shaped hush puppy was really tough and no flavor, in my opinion this one should be taking off their menu. You kinda had to just find your way and figure it out we realized we were to take our plate and put it in the trash. Our self I was gonna say service was bad but that would be unfair. They're just was no service.. I wish this place well, and I do think it will be a success for those that enjoy quantity and atmosphere is not important as far as it's very loud in there etc.. a lot of rubbing elbows and such. Now for dessert they had some cobblers pudding, vanilla wafers, and then homemade vanilla ice cream on the desert. The cobbler's were dry and not made with a crust Kinda like a dump cobbler. The pudding seemed to be probably out of the can... my husband tried the cobbler and said it was dry. He stirred the ice cream through it and said it was good that way.... I didn't waste calories on it just went straight for the homemade ice cream and it was good... a texture, kinda like snow ice cream if you've ever had that.

We live close to the area so we Tried again and they were not closed. It is a buffet only and includes the drink. It is clean and bright and well decorated. Service: you serve yourself and they pick up the plates after you eat. It's styrofoam and plastic utensils. The buffet consisted of: fried catfish, fried butterfly shrimp, baked fish, boiled shrimp, the standard things that go with fried cat fish (coleslaw, fries, potato salad, okra), small salad bar which also included a Caesar salad. There is baked potato bar as well as red beans. The fried food was either under or over fried. I didn't eat the baked fish which I should have. The catfish was Meh. They had deserts which were a cobbler, chocolate and banana puddings, and I'm not sure what the other was. The cobbler didn't look appealing. They did have homemade ice cream. They had banana and vanilla. It was the the bomb!! Cost was almost $35 for 2. Doubt we would be back since the fish was Meh.
