If you want authentic Cajun food you need to try this place. They really know what they're doing when it comes to the ingredients to make Cajun food. My dad is from Deep South Louisiana so I was raised on Cajun food. It was always hard finding great Cajun food here in Texas. Any other places do not compare. If you don't read anything else about this restaurant, please read this. I'm crying with hurt and frustration. I went to get food. They told me that my food would talk over an hour and they would text me to let me know when it was ready. After a little while I went up there, parked and waited for their text. Over an hour and a half, she told me she hadn't put the Oder in and that I'd have to wait. Finally she told me there would be no charge. I dont do business like this and I will never go back. This place iris a Mike. I was hoping it had gotten better so I wanted to try again. I do not recommend Danni'. After three trees to get what I hear is wonderful food I'm done. My Cajun family loves this restaurant. It's a homey little hole-in-the-wall place run by a mom and her daughter. They've got all of the Louisiana and NOLA classics, and our favorite is the crab cakes and the crawfish éttouffée. And the crawfish breaaaad is delicious!!! Because it's a small family business, they are only open on Thursday - Saturday. Plan ahead for a chill, slow dinner because there's only one waiter in this cozy little spot. BUT she is the BEST. It's a little place, don't let that prevent you from going or you'll miss out on some of the best Cajun food. The beans & rice have perfect spice, the shrimp poboy is amazing. Very disappointed me and my gf arrived at the restaurant at 8:40 a whole 50mins before closing. And when we walked in we sat down and three minutes later the waitress came out and said we aren't taking anymore tables tonight. And had us leave. That is not how you run a business there was still plenty of time to have us and we were told away. Service - Painfully slow Food - Nothing authentic and below average quality Value - Overpriced for the quality of food Atmosphere - Could probably use a good spring cleaning Hubby and I decided to stop here for lunch during a trip to Sherman because of the high Yelp! reviews, but do not be fooled! As south Louisianians, we love to support local and enjoy some Louisiana home cooking, but boy were we wrong to pick this place. This restaurant is located in an old shopping strip with NO signage except for painted windows. We arrived about 1:45p, well after the lunch crowd. All 6 tables were full, but it appears people were just sitting at empty tables. No sign of an employee. Hubby turns on his timer because we see two tables walk out within minutes of our arrival. We grab one of the tables that walked out. At the 0:30 mark, we were acknowledged by an employee. I say we need menus, but instead of the server bringing us menus, a local patron gets up to bring us the menus. At the :40 the server finally takes our order. Despite "Lunch Specials" being on the menu from 11:30-3:00, the server told us lunch specials (around $15) were not available. Instead, I choose the Deep Dirty South dinner ($28) and Hubby the Shrimp Po-boy with fries ($18). At the 1:00 mark, 3 more tables have arrived and walked out. That makes a total of 5 tables walking out within one hour because they were never given service. We observed the local patron ordering boiled crawfish, but the server told two other tables that crawfish is not available. The server chats with the locals rather than getting drinks and taking orders from the rest of us. At the 1:15 mark, my Deep Dirty South dinner arrives. It is supposed to be crawfish étouffée topped with a crab cake and piece of fried catfish. The fried catfish was 1/3 piece of filet, coated in a beer batter (not cornmeal), soggy, and muddy tasting. The crab cake was from frozen pre-made and not freshly made. The étouffée was in a weird overly sweet red cream sauce on top of a incredibly salty plate of dirty rice. Look at my picture that shows the weird étouffée sauce consistency. Each component was bad, but put together, it was a terrible blob of food for $28.00. I pick out the seafood and ate the bread, as to not waste an expensive plate. At 1:30 mark, Hubby's $18.00 Shrimp Po-Boy and fries arrives. The po-boy bread was not on an authentic crusty French bread, but a sandwich roll. Since Hubby was starving, he devours it. The server never brings us the ticket, but instead a sheet of register paper asking for 18%, 20% or 25% tip with a drawn signature line. The meal without drinks was $49.50. We kindly opted to leave a cash tip on the table that was a different amount than asked. This may be considered "authentic" for Sherman, but not within my Louisiana hometown parish lines. read more

We wnt because yelp reviews. They are sort of a lie. The food was okay. Way over priced and way to long of a wait. Especially being we were the only patrons in the restaurant. 2 shrimp poboys 1 order of red beans and rice , 2 drinks over 50 dollars. I have ate cheaper at at&t stadium for two sandwiches, and everyone knows the food there is way over priced. So that being said . The sandwiches were good. I make better redbeans and rice myself. In a dive with no ambience and no customers I was interested in giving it a chance. Dives in NO are fantastic. But it was 40 degrees inside. My wife and I had long sleeves but didn't bring jackets. It was COLD!!!!!! Sat there for 5 minutes freezing. Place had an overwhelming smell of Lysol. We were first customers of the day so she might have just cleaned up or maybe she was trying to cover up something???? Anyway it was apparent that the hostess was the waitress was the chef was the sous chef was the janitor, was logistics, was the owner(?). After 5 minutes of freezing and huffing Lysol without a return visit from the single person that worked there (who was busy carrying in groceries to the back and not answering our questions or locating the thermostat ) we decided to leave I was willing to give it a chance. Even with the inauspicious ambience and lack of rigs parked out front (other happy customers). Even with the prices being double what lunch should cost in Sherman Texas I was just sure had we stayed it was going to be an many hours long experience for which I'd have to overpay and I might lose a fingertip or toes on account of frostbite I hate to say anything like this, but this has got to be a money laundering operation. No way this place has the organic revenue and repeat customers to remain a going concern. What restaurant is only open 3 days a week?????? What restaurant makes zero effort to indicate their location with signage?? No effort on ambience, customer comfort, staffing level, reasonableness of price point, or really anything at all it seems. read more

Let me start by saying I am not from NOLA but I love me some Cajun food!! If you are looking for Popeyes or even Razoos just keep going. This is genuine homemade Cajun food. My husband and I stopped on the way back to Dallas from Durant. I wanted something locally owned and unique. Well Dani's hit it out of the park! We loved everything we ordered. For starters we had the boudin balls. They are huge and come with a special sauce. My husband got jambalaya with chicken and sausage and I got the Deep Dirty South. OH MY Goodness. Mine was ahhmazzzing!! The crawfish etouffee has this delicious creamy sauce that is just out of this world. We added red beans and rice and Mac and cheese so we could try them. Red beans and rice were fabulous. Just the right kick. The mac and cheese was tasty-baked with cheese but not super saucy. We didn't eat a lot of the Mac and cheese because everything else was over the top. Servings are very plentiful. We should have shared one plate. But then we couldn't have tried each others dishes. We are ordering the bread pudding and beignets. Have already packed up more than half of our food to go but you know we have to at least try the desserts!! The ambiance is quaint. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Someone recommended this place so I'm not sure if I went on a off day but the ambiance alone should've cautioned me. I was told the deep dirty south was delicious. I received a hard piece of something (supposedly fish) on top of some type of huge patty that was supposed to be a crab cake which had some type of filling mixed in, didn't taste any crab. Ordered a bowl of gumbo which only had about 2 tablespoons of meat and the rest was liquid. Oh remember the ambiance so I ordered to go. I took my mother here as part of her 70th birthday. The food is Awesome! The fried fish and shrimp is so good!!! And the shrimp effoughtee is very delicious, but very hot. It is a small place that has a New Orleans style and look. The only reason I didn't give them a five star was due to there customer service. During the meal, there was extreme waits for drinks to be refilled (my mother and I were the only two eating in the place). Also, my mother and I watched customers come in and try to place an order and leave, while three workers stayed in the back. One customer was banging on the counter and not one worker came to the dining area. If you could give a half a point, I would have rated a 3.5. read more

I want to start off by saying that I like this place.... And I am going to give it another shot. My family and I checked this place out a couple of nights ago and we're pleasantly surprised. It looked dark, and it's out of the way, so we had our doubts. The owner was the only one there working, but we were the only ones there eating so it worked out! Danni was patient and friendly. She made us feel welcome like we were old friends. The portion sizes were great and the food was cooked well... With the exception of my chicken, unfortunately. I think the chicken was ok, but the milk that they used for the batter had gone bad, rendering my chicken inedible. I chose not to mention it to Danni as my families food had arrived and I did not want to wait for another chicken to be cooked. And, we were having a good visit. Okay, first, this place is super small and in a random spot in Sherman. But I swear to you this is the best Cajun you could find other than in NOLA. Especially in North Texas. The portions are GIANT. The picture I added was after I had eaten. And the flavor is so so good. The best part though were the people working. Our waitress (I am sad that I forgot her name) was just the sweetest. And we got to meet Danni. She is just the best!! She's so sweet and she told us they moved here after Katrina and have only been open since August 2017. Wow!!!!! I am so impressed with how delicious this food is. I ordered the Cajun Pasta, chicken only for myself, a Shrimp Po'Boy for my son and the Pontchartrain with Blackened Chicken for my husband. We are happy and full. Portions were large with the exception of the "large to go drink" which was only 16oz and qualifies as a small drink anywhere else in the world; truly my only negative of the entire experience. The staff was very friendly and cheerful even with it having been closing time. The interior is really cute as well. We will definitely be back. read more
