And the arboretum may as well be the central Jewel in the crown. This space is an endless amble filling the otherwise unused, hilly gaps of in-between. There are gravel, mulch, dirt and paved pathways intermingled with themed spaces, specialty gardens, groves of large native trees, plenty of benches, shaded and sunny spaces alike, and an assortment of artistic installations. It connects neighborhoods to baseball diamonds and wide open multi-use fields. There are places to picnic the day away or watch the kids burn energy on the playground. And best of all, it's completely free and easily accessible from multiple points along the perimeter. If you are looking to spend a quiet Sunday de-stressing before a new work week, I can't recommend this place more!

I've never been to the pool, but it looks like it is really fun compared to other pools I've seen. I finally went behind the center to the pond and lake, and they were so amazing. I went fishing out there, and in the pond, there was actually a lot to catch. We threw it back, but it was still fun for my first official time! It's actually relaxing out there. This is truly a full service park! That said, my review will focus mainly on the golf portions, with the park overall being a solid 5, and a must use for anyone in the Greensboro area. The driving range is just what you want and nothing more. A big open field to hit balls into, no frills, and also at a cheaper price than average. This is all I need, and all just about anyone would need at an amateur level. Distances are marked, and since it is pretty flat, you'll get a good idea for how far and straight you are hitting what. It's a popular place to practice, especially after typical work hours. The par 3 course... wellllll... it is less of a golf course, more of a hilly open area with some cutouts that would indicate a "green." There are 9 holes, the longest of which is about 130 yards, so no need to bring many clubs with you. The greens are about as rough as they get. There really isn't much of a putting surface. Too many weeds, and it's cut too long to get a realistic roll, I actually don't bother putting, because it isn't going to be good practice. There is also usually goose poop landmined around the course, the greens are no exception. The greens are also very small, none of which would be more than 25 feet in diameter, if that. The way I usually play, sticking the green from the tee is a birdie. Chipping up within about 5-8 feet is par. Anything outside of that, bogey. All this critique given, it was less than 10 bucks to play, really as much as you'd like. It does help you work on your short irons and wedges, and for that, I enjoy it and will return. Also, cheap beers in the clubhouse are just 2 bucks!

It offers a ton of parking, a pool, gazebos and kayaks for rent, and activities for kids. City Lake hosts community events from time to time, and it can get quite crowded on those days, but go during an off-hour and its fairly serene. For walkers, there's a view of the lake and some interesting wildlife (Muscovy ducks, anyone?). The trails also connect to the Piedmont Environmental Center, which is worth remembering should PEC parking ever fill up. Whether you want to swim, fish, paddle, or stroll, City Lake Park has what you need to be able to enjoy the outdoors.

Plenty of swings and lots of opportunities to climb and slide. Everything overlooks the lake and a portion of the train ride even goes alongside it. I enjoyed going through the tunnel the most. Though the carousel is a little dated, it's still fun and only $1. The boat ride was neat too. There's an ample amount of shelters available should you want to reserve one for a party and if you enjoy walking or riding your bike, there are plenty of trails that connect. If you want to find more information on hours and cost of the additional amenities I'd suggest looking at the website. The water park has its own pricing and hours. I'm sure the summer hours of operation of the park are different than the fall/winter. Overall this is a great place to have a day trip and it be fun for the whole family at an affordable rate!

It's hard to say which is the best park which is really just a sign of how great most of them are. Hagan-stone does have a lot of amenities but it's also a quiet, away from the city park as well. My kids love the playground and the pools, both of which can get busy on a nice summer day. My dog loves long walks in the woods and by the many ponds here. I haven't tried the camping but it's hugely popular here.

Right near by, we came across the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, another spot we've never explored. Parking was easy, they've got a decent size parking lot. Being a sunny, and hot Sunday morning, the tree coverage over the walk ways through the garden provide a ton of shade, which made for a very pleasant exploration. The whole garden is so nicely maintained, with probably a couple of miles worth of paved paths. There are plenty of sculptures to discover, and lots of benches to take a sit, and just enjoy being outside and the well manicured gardens. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to get out of the house and do a little urban exploring. It's even good for older people, as the paths are paved, with minimal hills.

We went to check out the playgrounds on this particular day, and there is two separate playgrounds which have their own parking lot. You will need to drive to each one, they are not close enough to walk. The first one was near a shelter and bathroom and had more to do. Though the second one I preferred because it was in the shade but there was no bathroom. This was the only frustrating part because I feel like you have to cut your time short or pack everyone up just to go pee. I hope they consider a solution for this because it's enough of a drawback for me not to consider going again. I have also played volleyball here and I can attest that they are great courts!
