First time visiting and it's our new favorite fly fishing store in the LA area. My son and I went down to pick up some tying materials and found ourselves leaving with so much more. The staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the sport. The selection of equipment and supplies was fantastic and we scored some great deals on new waders and boot. Staff is rude as fuck and harassed me was watching me in my car waiting till I left to the point they knew where I went and followed me in to the dentist 5 mins later and told me to move my car.... i was already checked in...n i was planning to shop here right after my appointment for my bf...they don't want business...im 18 this was uncalled for and the parking lot was empty if it was full I would completely understand but be mad no one wants to shop here...in no way should u be following someone into another place of business 5 mins after they had already left there car...just call the tow truck lol read more

One of the few remaining fishing supply shops left around Ventura and LA areas. I'm a new fly fisherman who lost his leader, and they quickly got me a 4x leader and attached it for me, and not just the leader to my line but fixed a 2x short line with a loop to my line so that leaders could be easily changed or attached with a loop. Very knowledgeable staff. I will be heading up to the Truckee and friends told me they've been using streamers this winter, and they took me over to a whole spread of Truckee and Lake Pyramid flies, got me set up with 3 streamers most popular on the Truckee. They have vendor sales and demonstrations on weekends, with great prices. Not a bait store, but an awesome fishing supply shop! Just north of the 101 off Van Nuys is somewhat of a drive from Ventura County but not bad all for the outstanding knowledge and service. read more

For a suburban fly fishing shop far from the classic "rivers" of lore, it's ideal for us locals. The staff have always been just the best with information and help, the events they have thrown have been fun and well aimed at their clientèle. Good selection of flies and supplies for fly tying. I went to the store to look around and service was great and very knowledgeable. bought 2 items i needed and saw that they had top gear gear all around. If you leave in Los Angeles County you really don't need to go to other stores to get your supplies. Stop by and pick up your supplies here and if they don't have it they can order it for you. I do admit like most specialty fly shops it is a little pricey but well worth the cost. Remember you get what you pay for. All the items were good quality and well know stuff. read more

Who would have believed you could find an awesome fly fishing shop in Van Nuys of all places. I have fished around Wyoming and Idaho quite a bit and this store and staff will stand up to any of those. The have an excellent selection of flies, tackle, gear and essentially everything a true fly fisherman needs. It's sad that here in the Los Angeles area, that this horrible place is the only choice we have for fly fishing needs. I had 3 reels replaced with new fly line. Went on my fly fishing trip to Yellowstone and found that they had not reattached the frame to one of reels. I had to buy a new complete reel from Blue Ribbon Fly shop, otherwise my sons and would be missing a operating fly rod. Since I no longer live in the area I stop by once a year to browse, usually buying a few piddly items. I've been fishing my whole life. I started out with yellow perch and walleye in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Since then, I've fished salmon out of Lake Michigan and Manistee, Michigan; fished yellowtail snapper out of Key Largo and Islamorado; reds out of New Orleans; brook trout out of Aspen; bass out of Arizona; yellowtail and rockfish out of the Pacific... I always wanted to try fly fishing. Fly fishing is something that frightens people, too hard, too expensive, too whatever. That only excited me more because I feel like "it's mine." This is just a shout out to Fishermen's Spot. Many tackle shops haven't treated me nicely, being a woman. Fishermen's Spot greeted me quickly and grabbed me. I have gone on two saltwater fly charters with Fishermen's Spot and had a blast. Realizing that freshwater fly fishing is different than saltwater fly fishing, I took a class today. David Shaffer teaches the class. He teaches so much information that I feel badly that I accepted a discount because I am a Bob Sands employee. This store is amazing. One of the only fly fishing shops in southern california. Have gone there on several occassions for this same reason. My last experience with them was very disappointing. Went in with my young daughter to purchase some items. They were prepping for thier annual tent event which was going to take place the next day. They informed us that there were going to be raffles, BBQs, speakers, and kid events. They especially convinced my daughter that she should return because there was going to be kid fly fishing clinics for her. My young daughter was so excited about the clinic that she had us drive back the next day to fishermans spot after her baseball game from L.A. to Van Nuys and skip some other plans we had previously planned for the day. When we got there we purchased some food and raffle tickets but did not see any kid activities whatsoever. When i confronted owners about the kid fly fishing clinics they had promised the day before, they indicated that there was a change of plans. When I explained to them that the only reason we came back was for that, they both dismissed us and walked away. I was very dissappointed that after spending the amount of money i have in thier store and spending over 100 dollars more on that particular day on thier fundraising activities, they did not have the decency to apologize to my young daughter. At that point I felt that it was just about the sale. They utilized my daughter by making false promises to her so that daddy can come back and drop some more dough. By the way, when asked about the drawing for thier raffle. They indicated that it was probably going to take place on Monday and that they didnt know when. This tells me that it is not done in public. How do you know that they dont pick the winners based on a buddy system? read more

My first experience with the "spot" was a beginners fly fishing class taught by Dennis T. , probably the best $100 I spent. The class was great and I gained all the base knowledge needed to get started. Fly fishing can be a little intimidating there are so many aspects to learn!
