Their lot as well as the one across the street fill up quickly and charge $5 per 30 minutes. Your best bet is metered street parking which can also fill up quickly, best to go early morning or late evening. Malibu Farm is a huge draw to the pier, love that it is split up into 3 areas and that there is so much seating, but all 3 usually have lines out the door and the wait is horrendous. Access is pretty easy; you can park for free on PCH and hike to the beach with no admission fee. Or, you can park in the State Park lot for a fee. (If you have a California Library State Park Pass, parking is free!) To camp, I believe you need reservations. If you want to tidepool, check the tide tables before your visit to ensure it's low tide. And remember not to turn over any rocks or touch any of the wildlife. You'll still see some amazing animals and plants that call the tidepool zone home. Thank goodness for the State of California preserving this stunning coastline!

Mugu was the site of the largest Chumash settlement in the Santa Monica Mountains and I can see why. The beaches are stunning, creeks run throughout the land of lush chaparral and sycamore trees with abundant wildlife. There are several campgrounds, some along the beach and some inland; seems that reservations are required for the camp sites. If you'd like to visit just for the day, the California State Park Library Pass is accepted here! A beautiful location for all ages.

Lorenzo guided us on a fantastic fishing trip to Lake Pyramid. We were a dad, 9-year old son, and…read more7-year old daughter. They are deskbound STEM and musical instruments type kids. They don't get out enough. This was their first fishing trip. I didn't know what to expect. I thought I'd be hearing (1 hour into the trip), "Dad, I'm bored. When are we going home? Can we get off the boat?" Nope, they loved it. Lorenzo has a customized fishing boat with a top-of-the-line engine in back; a smaller engine in front (to slowly trawl the waters while fishing); a state-of-the-art fishfinder; and all the rods, hooks, and live bait (worms) that we needed. He did all the work. He taught my kids how to fish; hooked the bait; and untangled all the tangles. We caught large catfish; two smaller fish; and one humungous 6.5 lb. large-mouthed striped bass. That's right--we caught dinner. As a bonus, Lorenzo even cleaned the fish for us afterward. We'll be coming back.

No real reason to go by there, except if you are walking by to the beach. Some of the nearby beaches are notoriously unfriendly.
