I always get crab from c k when I am in Maryland. I like the flavor. This time I ordered 1dozen large. I got 11 medium crabs. I was very disappointed. We were going to have a meet and greet, and I had advised 12 people to get one dozen crabs from ck. I am now changing our plans and we're going to get out crabs somewhere else. I ordered seafood combo= added additional fish, whiting, 3 shrimp and 3 oysters (1 missing) and fries. I should have known better when the gentleman said 8 minutes. Everyone knows most seafood is done under 5 minutes. The final product is super greasy,over cooked and with no seasonings! I feel bad that it took me so long to write this review. Life happens and I keep forgetting. I want to love this business and support local and support Asian. However, I believe they have changed management. I placed an order on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and being that summer was winding down, was not the only one that had a craving for crabs. Between myself and 3 other family members, we called in for pricing to have an idea how much the crab craving would cost us. I could have used my broken Chinese language skills to place the order but language did not seem to be an issue nor an advantage. I asked for 2 dozen crabs and 4 softshell crab sandwiches to be picked up at 3pm. On a previous visit, we sent my son to pick it up and he had to wait 45 minutes despite ordering ahead. It happened again this time and from the number of upset customers- I can tell it happened to them too. Okay, here is a thought. You as a business owner are working with a high cost product that is perishable. Sure, you don't want to cook everything ahead because guess what, people don't show up or show up on time. But I think if you asked your customers to pay upfront, that would cut down the risk of a no show and as for quality- if you ask for crabs for 2pm and show up at 3:15 expecting it to be sitting there then that is on the customer. Yes, that was the person in line ahead of me. She was mad about waiting, but I guarantee if her food was ready and sitting there, she still would have complained about the quality which would have been her own fault. So I showed up at 3:15 for my 3pm order and sure, same logic, they didn't know if I would come an hour later or relatively on time. So I think instead, here is what you should do. Call ahead and order yes. If anything, this just means that they will try not to sell out an item so that you can get it when you show up. But don't expect your food to sit there waiting. Go in and let that be the signal that you showed up and will pay- they will then start cooking your food. But yeah, it sucks to show up after having called ahead and waiting in whatever line ahead of you to then wait to pay and tell them to start your order. So yes, I was there another 40 minutes, which I could have learned from that last trip in. I will know what to do if there is a next time. It is tough times for business owners and customers alike so try to take it easy on each other. The crabs were delicious so although a bit annoying, was worth it to get it hot and fresh. read more

Well, I really wanted some crabs, I couldn't order from my favorite place, they stop taking orders at 1:30pm, so I found CK's from reviews on there website. I called ordered 2 dozen medium males and fries. I invited my neighbors over. We were eating the crabs, they were good until THEY WEREN'T. Was impressed with the large tasty crabs at a great price! They were easy to order and ready upon pick up.

I decided to give this place a try based on the reviews. The staff were very friendly and as one person mentioned, the parking lot can get pretty busy at times. I got 1/2 dozen X-Large male crabs, 1lb large shrimp and an order of hush puppies. While the crabs were very meaty, heavy and well seasoned on the outside, they lacked flavor on the inside. I noticed a few of the shrimp were not deveined, but nevertheless still ok. I like my crabs well seasoned, meaty, flavorful, hot & juicy and these did not do it for me. Service was fine but crabs were just decent mainly to to the inconsistency. Some crabs were dark in color looking as if they went bad or went cleaned, done crabs were just shell (no meat) while others were full of meat. To me the near itself tasted a bit salty but I didn't have a major issues with it. Over all not bad but I honestly wouldn't go back. This review is only for the steamed crabs. I usually order ahead because sometimes they run out for the day. I've had the large and extra large before and the quality is amazing. I was pleasantly surprised. Tbh the place seems a little sketch but with all the good reviews I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. Food: Meaty, flaky crabs (not old and mushy like some other places give you), exactly the size you order (no shiesty-ness giving you tiny ones if you ordered larger), seasoned perfectly, and steamed perfectly. As a life-long Marylander, I have particularly high standards for crabs, and this place has never done me wrong. Occasionally I'll try another place but the competitive pricing coupled with the sheer quality of the crabs here just keeps me coming back. Service: The owner is a nice older Asian man and while he does speak English, it is not his first language, so it may be a bit difficult to understand what he's saying. That being said, he has always been gracious, even if I come just before closing time (I know, I'm the worst) or have a ton of questions, which he is happy to answer. He has personal relationships with his crab distributors and really knows his stuff on when crabs are best, where they come from, what the crab outlook is for the season, etc etc. He clearly prides himself on the quality of his product, and it really shows. I found this little gem when all my "normal" spots were sold out during a holiday rush. An unassuming little strip center houses this small dine in (I think) carry out seafood spot. I have never seen anyone eat in so I would call to confirm. I ordered 2 dozen jumbo crabs and some shrimp. The order was hot and ready when I arrived. The shrimp was great however, the crabs were so small. They couldn't be large, more like small or mediums. I feel cheated out of my money. I got crabs from here a couple of years ago and they were good so I thought I would go back for a couple dozen this year. They weren't cooked well and I ordered larges but what i got was more like what I expect when I get mediums. I tried to order one week in advance and the guy told me I had to call back the day before I wanted them because it was Father's Day weekend and he wanted to charge me extra even though I was calling in advance. This is a no-nonsense Chinese seafood market (the owner speaks English) that specializes in crab. They have stated operating hours, but really, he opens sometime in the early afternoon and closes when he runs out of seafood, so call ahead to reserve what you want. I called and reserved a dozen large females and told him that I couldn't make it until 6pm (he's usually sold out by then), and he stuck around and saved me the last dozen in the bushel. By "last dozen", I really mean the last 15 crabs and they were all kicking and screaming kind of fresh. He also offered to steam them for me, but half the fun is screaming yourself as you try to get them to go into the pot, right? I also found out that he carries blue crab year-round, but sources it from different parts of the US depending on when it's in season. Hence, prices change every couple of weeks and as usual, the females are cheaper than the males, but being Asian I got females because I like to eat the roe. Good eats. read more

Comparing this place to other crab places in Maryland the prices at ck can not be beat. Ordered 6 xl steamed crab, a seafood combo, and a lunch box fried scallop all for $58 dollars. The crab steamed with old bay was great, classic Maryland blue crab. The fried seafood was good as well, although, I would prefer a beer batter. Excellent location to grab fresh or cooked crabs (seasoned with old bay) to go! We called ahead the night before to grab a dozen large and a dozen x-large crabs for lunch the next day. They were packed and ready to go just as promised. If you don't feel like driving the hour+ to Annapolis or to Maryland's eastern shore and you live in the northern Silver Spring area, this is your go-to place. It's located in the strip mall with Pizza Hut and Pho Real. They also have a menu for lunch (including sandwiches) but I didn't try any so I can't comment. read more

Based upon the positive reviews, I checked out CK Seafood for the first time and bought two dozen extra large crabs at over $110+ for each dozen. I never mind spending money for a quality product, but I felt robbed here based upon my experience. The older Chinese couple were nice enough; however, when I got my steamed crabs and started to eat at home, I realized that more than 3/4 of the crabs I got were very light. The crabs were big, but the crabs didn't have much meat at all. After doing some research, these are called "light males." The term light make crabs refers to crabs that feel light since the crab meat has not filled out into the shell. They are also sold much cheaper from wholesaler to restaurant/supplier, but in my personal case, I paid a premium price for an inferior product- so buyer beware. They are buying these light crabs cheaper and selling them at a higher price. I didn't know at the time, but if you spend as much as I did, I would make sure to tell them you want heavy crabs. I'm sure the smaller crabs would've been fine, and they are much cheaper. Seasoning on the crabs were also sufficient- I just wished that they didn't give me so many light crabs. I definitely felt a little robbed considering the price I paid- out of all my 30+ years of eating crabs, I've never been given so many light crabs at one sitting before- so definitely be careful. If you can cook your own crabs, I would recommend that you buy live crabs there instead (he will pull them out for you), and that's what I'd do if I went back (or just get the smaller crabs maybe) -- that way, you can ensure you're getting the heavy crabs and not the light ones they can dump on you when you have them steam the crabs for you. Nice people but just be careful you don't get the same experience I got because if anything the shouldn't be selling these light crabs at premium prices. If I had 2-3 light crabs in my 2 dozen of crabs, I wouldn't have even complained, but more than 3/4 quarters of my x-large crabs were light- definitely felt a little ripped off here. read more
