I've always had a phobia of dentist offices because of my history of cavities and bad experiences with dentists. This was my first appointment in 2-3 years, and I'm so glad I went to Dr. Fishlyn's office. The hygienist was so patient and kind in doing my dental scaling. I, predictably, had a lot of tartar built up on my teeth since I hadn't had a professional cleaning in so long, but she didn't make me feel bad about it at all. Dr. Fishlyn himself is also very kind as other reviewers have mentioned. In the past I've found many dental offices to always push dental procedures (need to replace this filling, do this, etc.), but this was not the case here. I did have a slight chip in one tooth, so Dr. Fishlyn offered to do a small filling on it, but even I could see that chip. I didn't feel like he was pressuring me at all to get it done, nor did he recommend anything else. I was able to get it done the same day, and the process was very easy. He was also very patient in answering my other questions I had about my wisdom teeth, since I was planning on getting an impacted one extracted at an oral surgeon in Santa Monica. I didn't feel like he was in a rush to get me out of there. Too bad I don't live in Santa Monica, because I would definitely want Dr. Fishlyn to be my regular dentist. read more

Went to see Dr. Fishlyn today and want to tell you how very sweet this doctors offices are. Although I was not in his insurance network dr. Fishlyn took the time to CALLmy (blue shield) insurance and make sure I was directed to the right place so that I could be treated! He even took x-rays of my teeth so that I was equipped with things that would solve my problems. Even the sweet lady in front office made me feel comfortable and listened to. The room I was put in had a bay window made of glass and overlooked lush trees and greens AND a waterfall! As I waited for my x-rays I sat back and felt like I was in paradise. Very kind, understanding and knowledgeable. If you have the opportunity to get dental work done from this doctor, don't hesitate! read more

Both my wife and I have seen Dr. Fishlyn now for years. The care that we have received from him and the attentiveness of his staff have always been top notch. if you love western movies this is your dentist! i don't think there is anything in this place that is newer than 50 years old ( but I recognize a tool around '30) everything is small, old, and a crazy mess of syringes, equipment, open and poorly resealed vials. ok, maybe the doctor may be great but clearly it is time to spend some money just to innovate.... just a little bit, please... you know the old movies where the barber was also a dentist? if you are intrepid you can experience it for yourself: confusion, messy, papers everywhere and crazy old (very old) tools. yeaaaaahhhhh cowboys!! read more

I can't say higher praise for Dr. Fishlyn. He is kind, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. I remember being astounded one time when he was examining my teeth and casually mentioned if I had moved when I was 9 because he could tell from my teeth that I had a different water source (and indeed, I had moved when I was 9!). He remembers small details about my work and my family and is so pleasant to listen to as he works on my teeth. He clearly cares deeply about his patients and is passionate about his work. I have nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Fishlyn's office. From scheduling my appointment (Fernando even called later on to tell me they had an earlier appointment available if I wanted it) to getting my teeth gleaming, the entire process was easy and enjoyable. And that's a lot to say about a dentist! The majority of my time was spent with Suzi, the hygienist. She was incredible! Careful and informative. She did everything as if I was a prized possession and talked me through the entire procedure. She even offered to numb me for the cleaning (I declined, but definitely nice to know I have the option). She sent me home with toothbrushes and tips. Dr. Fishlyn also examined me to make sure the rest of my mouth was in order. As soon as he found out we went to the same university and had the same major (economics!), we became friends. He's genuinely caring and you can tell he loves what he does. I've recommended this office to all my coworkers and wanted to recommend it to all your Santa Monica Yelpers as well. read more

I went here for a cleaning recently and I must say I was about 15 mins early for my appointment and still waited another 25 mins before I was seen by the hygienist. She was professional, knowledgeable and thorough in my opinion. The assistant was a little slow during my examination with the hygienist and she had to correct her a couple of times to make sure she was recording things on the chart correctly which was kind of awkward but I survived. Dr. Fishlyn was a breath of fresh air. He was cool, casual and not too sterile as some dentists can be. He took his time and spoke to me like a patient and not a chart. The energy in this office is good. They're a good team. There isn't a parking structure or a parking lot that's close and the metered parking is only for 2 hours. So things like a 30 or 40 minute wait could make you anxious about whether or not your meter will expire. The staff does ask if you need them to refill your meter but can be a little awkward to describe your car with your mouth gaped open for an examination. The office isn't the best, in fact, it's a little on the older side but it is in Santa Monica where real estate is precious and expensive. I was underwhelmed with the equipment some dental offices have say instant digital X-rays and super nice chairs. He's also pretty popular so it can be hard to get an appointment. If you can forget about the fluff though Dr. Fishlyn is top notch. read more

Fernando could not be more helpful and pleasant to deal with...Suzi the hygienist is the best and knows her stuff...and Doc is an excellent Dentist, is very professional and has a great sense of humor. He came to the office one weekend to help my Brother-in-Law, who had an abscess, and he fixed him up until he could get back to Tucson and his charge was extremely fair. WOW. Whoever thought I would write a review for a dentist! I'm terrified of dentists; however, not anymore. I had my first visit with Dr. Fishlyn a few weeks ago. Like Ryan H. wrote: it's dental paradise. My friend referred me and after meeting with wonderful Suzi, my hygienist, and Dr. Fishlyn, I was completely at ease. I am uninsured and need a lot of work done, and Dr. Fishlyn is endeavoring to keep this affordable for me. What a nice man. His practice is quality "old school," and completely unlike the horrendously expensive dental factories where the dentists don't even have time for a simple consult. I was a new patient complaining of tooth sensitivity and they did not even take x-rays. The hygienist did not even floss my teeth. Dr. Fishlynn was nice and east to talk to but only probably spent less than 2 minutes looking in my mouth. He has provided superb dental care for myself, my wife (a former dental technician who quickly recognized what a fine dentist he is), & our son ever since then. A graduate of UCLA dental school, Elliott is not only highly skilled & insightful but also one of the most down-to-earth, sensitive professionals I've met. In addition to evidencing expertise, nothing instills trust in a patient like compassion. Elliott exemplifies these traits. Even though he has a busy hectic practice, he always provides adequate time to treat my family -- which is an important issue since, for the past two decades we have had to commute 95 miles round trip for our Saturday appointments. BTW, his examination rooms provide a unique garden view that has a calming effect during your visit. He also maintains a personable efficient staff. Because I've been very lucky, I have never had any cavities until recently. Last visit he let me know that I was going to need 2 fillings. That happened yesterday. He was probably one of the friendliest office manager's I have ever dealt with in a medical office. I waited less than 5 minutes before being taken back to the exam room by Suzi, the dental hygienist. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. She even gave me some flossing tips that no one had ever told me before. Finally, I saw Dr. Fishlyn who was very nice and seemed knowledgeable and to really care about me as a patient. I love this dentist office! I've been a patient here for a few years now. Dr. Fishlyn is very skilled, professional and competent and also very gentle and kind. Everyone at this office is so down to earth! For my cleaning I always see Nancy. I'm a dental chicken, so Nancy makes sure she's always careful, yet very thorough. I've been going to Dr. Fishlyn for over 15 years and he's fantastic. He's helped me with all kinds of dental issues, particularly with crowns. One time I cracked my crown in half, called him that night and he was able to come in early the next morning to help me with it. He's easy to talk with and seems to care a lot about my wellness, listening carefully to what I have to say. Anytime I've had larger dental issues, he's connected me with the best specialists in Santa Monica - one time he called a root canal specialist on the phone while I was in the office and sent me down to the street right then to see him. I saw Dr. Fishlyn today for the first time. I broke a tooth and needed to get in right away. Daisy was so accommodating with my crazy schedule, and got me in the next day. They were right on time for my appointment, and when I didnt have my insurance card under my husbands name, they called and got the information. Dr. Fishlyn is incredibly warm and welcoming. He took his time with me, and explained every step of what he was doing, and didnt try to tell me that I needed a crown. I have been going to Dr Fishlyn for at least 30 years !!! He is the best dentist I have ever been to. He is patient, gentle and has a light touch.His staff is always accommodating & squeeze me in when I have an emergency. My husband, 2 daughters, step son, and many friends go to him.They all are very happy with Dr Fishlyn and his staff. I had a chip on my crown and was afraid I was going to have to pay for a whole new crown. Dr. Elliot game me 3 options, including getting a new crown, and actually recommended that I start with the cheapest option (just a patch). He even told me that if the patch did not work (fell off within a short period of time), he would apply what I had paid for it towards the second option that was more expensive or the crown. What a refreshing surprise to have a dentist try to save you money. I was very pleased. By the way, I have had the patch for more than 2 months and is working just fine. read more

Dr. Fishlyn is the BEST. I have been goinng to him ever since I was a child. He is so honest and does a great job. I now moved to NY, but still have not found a dentist that I can trust as much as him. A few years ago I even flew back for some fillings. At the time, the dentist I was going to told me I had a lot of cavities. I decided to go home and do them with him, and he said that most of there are actually just mineralization and nothing needs to be done. A different time I had another problem with NY doctor, I flew back and I he helped me right away. Very highly recommended. read more
