In 2002, they purchased the rights to the name Planet Fitness from Rick Berks who had started his own Planet Fitness gym in 1993 in Sunrise, Florida. He got the name from his daughter's school project, Fitness Planet. Today Planet Fitness is chain of gyms with memberships as low as $10 a month. It has more than 7 million members and is one of the fastest-growing health club franchises in the U.S. The company has around 2,600 clubs making it one of the largest fitness club franchises by number of members and locations. The company majority is owned by private-equity firm TSG Consumer Partners. This Planet Fitness location is in the Planet Fitness Plaza on Powerline Road in Pompano. This isn't my usual gym so I enjoyed checking out another Planet Fitness to compare. Pompano seemed larger and more open than my gym. The equipment was set up in similar locations so I could find what I wanted. Some of the machines that get backed up in my local gym were more available here. They also had four of my beloved iFIT bikes compared to the two my gym has. The only thing I didn't like was it felt very hot in here. I would have appreciated lowering the AC. Like my gym, the Pompano location is also 24 hours which I love. Sometimes I like to come very late on the weekends when the gym is empty so I can feel I little more free in trying new things. This location also has the Black Card area for the $25 a month members with tanning beds, hydro beds, and massage chairs. I barely have enough time to work out never mind lie around so this has not been an appealing upgrade for me. The locker room has showers but that is another feature that I don't care to use. Overall I have been happy with Planet Fitness. I have been going on a regular basis for a few months now and can see the change in my body. The hours are great and I can pop in for as little or as long as I have. The machines are easy to use and they have videos on You Tube and QR codes on the machines so you know how to use them. There are so many ways to work out that I am never bored. I try to learn a new machine each time I come and I incorporate both cardio and weights into my workouts. Whatever part of your body that you want to work on, there are numerous ways to get there. Best of all this gym is not intimidating for beginners but is equally great for the hard core fitness fanatic. People stick to their own thing and you can feel comfortable doing yours in the "Judgement Free Zone." You can download the Planet fitness app that makes check in a breeze, tracks your progress and workouts, and where you can even find home workouts. The app also lets you know how crowded the gym is. I like that it works with the Apple Health app on my watch. So far this is the longest fitness routine I have stuck to and it has seeped into other areas of my life like a better diet and more regular visits to the doctor to keep up with my health goals and to think it all started with the first time I stepped through the door of a Planet Fitness.

I will be canceling my membership. The gym is filthy. Equipment seems to be always broken and the staff seem to be more worried about enforcing petty rules instead of focusing on what is important. Equipment takes weeks, sometimes months to fix.The bulbs for the tanning beds have been laying in the same boxes they were delivered in for 6 months without being changed. All while the bulbs that are in the tanning beds are old, have past their life expectancy and don't work. The gym locker rooms are filthy. Feces and urine throughout. Dirt and grime that cover all exterior surfaces. Feces, urine, mold, and dry boogers on the walls. In corners on the floors, hair in the sinks, trash throughout on the floors, etc. Need I say more?! Nothing seems to be cleaned on a regular basis. Planet Fitness, What are we doing here? Can you not do better for the customers who have paid good money for the expected value? This location is a pig stine. It's disgusting by any standard. This location needs a full makeover, deep cleansing or needs to be shut down entirely. Do better.

I turn 70 this year. I find the facility to be quite clean for a ten year old gym, despite showing a bit of wear for it's age. There's always someone on the floor cleaning up and restocking the sanitizer and paper towels when I'm there. The staff all seem to be courteous, friendly, and helpful. Having no experience with weight machines, I was fortunate enough to meet Ryan Williams, one of the trainers, on my first visit. After a bit of conversation with Ryan, I hired him to teach me how to properly work out, not just with the equipment, but how to train correctly to avoid injuring myself. He has demonstrated time and again that he's knowledgable with all aspects of his job. Ryan takes the time to listen and understand what my fitness goals are, and guides me to the best course of action in achieving them. He has helped me learn how to eat correctly to support reaching those goals. I would recommend both Crunch and Ryan to anyone considering a gym and trainer. I look forward to working out on the new machines that are slated to be installed this summer.

It's hard to give a low score, but this gym just isn't up to the same standards as other locations…read more First impression, it's in a large plaza next to a soccer facility and a rock climbing gym, so the area has a strong fitness vibe. Parking was easy, with a large lot and no issues there. However, the moment I opened the door, there was a very strong, unpleasant smell. It was hard to ignore and honestly off-putting. I have been to other Crunch locations and have never experienced anything like that. The design of the gym also feels different compared to others. It is very purple, which I personally like, but overall it comes across as a bit dated. The gym just looks plain and doesn't feel like the others at all. I had signed up for a Zumba class, so I went to the front desk to check in. I was simply told I was good to go and to head in. This is the only Crunch location I have visited that did not have me sign in or give out wristbands. I even asked about it, and they said not to worry. The class itself was full, and the instructor was great. That was definitely the highlight and the saving grace of this visit. One other positive was that the group fitness room had a paper towel dispenser. I have not seen that at other Crunch locations, and it was really convenient. I don't understand how none of the gyms offer paper towels in their main gym areas, bathrooms or rooms. It's also worth noting that this location does not have a hot studio for Pilates, yoga, or similar classes, nor does it have a dedicated ride studio for cycling, which is something I have seen and enjoyed at other locations. That said, I do not see myself returning to this location, especially since there are other gyms nearby that offer Zumba classes in a much better overall environment.

I was down in Florida in July 2025 for 2 1/2 weeks and wanted to try this place because it was new. So I bought a one month membership for myself and my wife and then asked to freeze the account until we come back down to Florida since we live in New Jersey. We did everything through a gentlemen named Mac who understood our situation that we wouldn't be coming back down until the next year. I got billed the next month accidentally and he refunded me and apologized. At that time I asked him to take my card off file. Fast forward to January and I've been getting billed the last 3 months after several phone calls with the owner and emails sent without a response. Today was the last straw as I called AGAIN to have my card removed and to be refunded. I mentioned that I'm going to have my bank reverse the charges and he started calling me a jack ass and saying why don't I come and say this to his face because he felt "threatened" and will sue me if I do it. I can't say enough awful things about the people here except for Mac who actually doesn't even work there anymore probably because he was nice. The fact that I asked several times for the card to be taken off file and it hasn't been is severely alarming. Anyone that is traveling and thinking about Joining beware. They told me something completely different than what the contract said. Stupid me for taking their word for it and not reviewing the contract. Not keeping your word says a lot about a business. I had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had at a gym at this LA Fitness…read morelocation. After seeing an ad for their 3-day pass, I registered online and booked a confirmed appointment for 9 AM. I even received a confirmation text. Because my closest location is closed, I drove over 30 minutes to get here. When I arrived, the associate at the front told me, "There's no one from sales to activate the pass or show you the club, so we can't help you." No apology, no alternative, no solution. I explained that I had a confirmed appointment and had driven a long distance. He just shrugged, clearly not caring. When I said I might have to post my experience publicly, another employee -- an older gentleman working there -- loudly said, "You should!" in a rude, confrontational tone. When I asked for clarification, he responded, "Do whatever you like." I calmly asked for his name. He refused, became visibly aggressive, and when I took a photo simply to document who I was speaking to, he escalated into insults and threatening behavior. Nothing justifies a staff member at a gym behaving like this toward a guest who arrived with a confirmed appointment. Between the complete disregard for appointments, the lack of accountability, and the hostile attitude of the employees, I left without being helped and genuinely shocked at how unprofessional this location is run. If this is how potential new members are treated when they walk in the door, I can only imagine what actual members deal with.

Scott spent time setting realistic expectations. He picked an amazing trainer for me. Yolanda shows up every morning and I know it's early for her. We set my goals and started working out 3 mornings a week. She shows up happy and ready to go. Yo keeps me distracted from what I am doing so that I keep going when I want to quit. I no longer feel ashamed that I am out of shape. She makes sure that I feel I have accomplished something at the end of every session. We discuss nutrition and she checks in with me on off days. I know that if I keep it up I will hit my goal. Thank you intense fitness. I know with your help I will achieve my goal.
