I've improved not only my strength, but also my balance, stamina, and eating habits. When I started working with Sondra I had just finished my 3rd round of chemo. I had had breast cancer and several years later, uterine cancer. My diet had gotten really out of whack and I had gained about thirty pounds. In addition, my balance was terrible and I fell all the time. I had spent so much time in bed that I had very little strength or stamina. Our first year together was hard and I didn't always look forward to training. But I liked Sondra and actually began to enjoy our workouts! At first, I wasn't used to being challenged that way and I had gotten lazy. But something in me wanted to get stronger and fitter. I wanted her to be proud of me. I missed some workouts, but I kept at it. Today I'm not the same person. I look forward to workouts, and because Sondra is so knowledgeable, she knows how to keep me engaged. Now I hate to miss a session! I've lost all the weight I'd put on and am so much stronger and fitter, with better endurance. Sometimes it's hard for me to believe. I like the way I look and feel and I can do so much more than I once could. I plan to keep training with her. I think Sondra is the best! I recommend her unreservedly.

One of those changes being going from weighing 250 pounds to 158. The first 45 pounds I lost on my own. The second 45 pounds (and the more difficult half to lose) I lost at ATX Gym. I worked with both Max and Kevin and they were both professional, knowledgeable and truly masters of their field. Not only did they help develop and maintain a training plan custom tailored for me and my goals, they also took the time to teach me what I was doing, why I was doing it and how to do it properly with good form. They were also highly motivational, offering encouragement to keep going, keep pushing my limits and and not give up. "It's not how you start, it's how you finish" - Max I've recently stopped going to ATX Gym, but I take with me everything I've gained and everything I've learned and continue to apply it as I live this new life with strength & confidence. Thank you Max & Kevin for everything!

ATX Gym has you covered. It's small, intimate and efficient. From what I've seen, the full spectrum of fitness levels finds a home here from those who could do Olympic lifts in their sleep to those who are just getting their feet wet (me). The classes always have a purpose and a plan but offer a lot of variety. Weightlifting, strength straining, booty building workshops, yoga, stretch, calisthenics, cardio conditioning, HIIT, dance--There's something for everyone. That's key for me personally, as I tend to get bored really fast and lose interest if it's the same thing every day. And the classes are small! No more than 6 people, which is the sweet spot between getting personal training and enjoying the comradery of others. It definitely helped me feel less intimidated, because let's be honest... walking into a group of strangers in unflattering workout clothes not knowing what to expect can be anxiety inducing. Lacey (owner and trainer) was so sweet, warm and welcoming! I felt welcomed immediately by her and the other few people in our group that were super supportive. Lacey and Max are knowledgeable hands-on owners that run their own classes and really invest a lot of time and energy into you. They really took a lot of time and stayed late with me to go over nutrition, set goals, and help me choose what classes would be best for me. Give this bad ass locally owned gym some love!

The second I filled out the form, I got a call. Lots of questions, which was fine, but my first red flag was when I asked about pricing and how the "free" challenge worked. Before I could finish my question, the subject changed. I was told pricing varies by person, but nobody would explain the free part. I scheduled an appointment anyway because I wanted to see what the hype was about. Before the appointment, I got several texts, including one asking what type of protein shake I wanted. Remember that part for later. When I arrived, it was so dark I wasn't sure anyone was there. I filled out paperwork that mostly repeated the questions I had already answered over the phone. Then I saw a question that said: "If you are not the primary financial decision-maker, please reschedule with your spouse present." Red flag number two. Immediately I thought, "This is about to be a sales pitch." I never got a tour. Nobody explained the classes or how the workouts worked. Instead, I was taken to the back and questioned about my health journey. I explained that I've successfully lost weight before, work with a dietitian, and that my biggest struggle lately has simply been motivation due to some personal things that started around December. The response? Basically, everything I was doing "wasn't working." Wait a damn minute. I've only been struggling for a few months. I wasn't there because I don't understand nutrition or exercise. I wanted to see if group fitness would help with motivation and accountability. Then my dietitian started getting discredited despite him knowing almost nothing about her recommendations or my situation. Every explanation somehow got met with, "Well, it's not working." The facility itself appeared clean at least I think it did. The lights were never fully turned on, so I was basically evaluating the gym in mood lighting . Thankfully my iPhone can make a dark room look like it has light. Then we got to pricing. The "free" six-week challenge was suddenly around $699 and included coaching, classes, meal plans, body scans, and other services. My immediate thought was: Where exactly was the free part? The conversation The second option required an upfront payment, a 12-month commitment, and weekly payments. I explained that I don't make financial decisions on the spot. I like to go home, think about it, compare options, and then decide. That wasn't received very well. The conversation became more about getting me to commit than helping me determine whether the program was a good fit. At one point I was basically told I could either commit or keep doing what I was doing which apparently "wasn't working." Then came the final straw. I was told women spend money on hair, nails, and shopping and could redirect those funds toward fitness. Sir... You don't know me. I budget carefully, and even if I did spend money that way, that's none of your business. Before leaving, I asked if I could observe a class. The answer was no because apparently if people leave, they don't come back. And looking at a class is not going to determine anything. No trial was offered now I see several trial offers online for lower than what I was offered which was nothing Funny thing is, I'm exactly the type of person who leaves, sleeps on a decision, researches it, and then comes back if it makes sense. In the end, I chose not to join. My issue isn't that they charge for services. My issue is advertising a "Free 6-Week Comeback Challenge" and then presenting expensive packages without clearly explaining costs upfront. Ironically, the experience motivated me just not in the way they intended. It reminded me that I've reached my goals before and I can do it again. Oh, and remember that protein shake he texting me about? Yeah... nobody ever offered it when I got there. Guess we both left disappointed False advertising at its finest.

I joined Crunch because my wife promised she would go with me at least three days a week because a couple of her friends just joined. I even paid for her to have a trainer. Well, she went twice. Although I don't like big gyms, the Crunch trainers and staff impressed me with their knowledge and their willingness to work with their clients. I saw a number of times where they dropped what they were doing to walk over to someone working out and either correct an exercise form mistake or suggest a different exercise. To make this clear, I am no longer a member of Crunch, but as a former Gold's Gym and LA Fitness member Crunch "crushes" those two without even breaking a sweat. If you don't mind a crowd I would strongly recommend this Crunch gym.

I personally haven't utilized any class sessions but I see there are plenty to sign up for. Unique three-story gym with friendly staff. My one and true concern for this gym is the quality of the restroom / locker room/ shower facilities. The water pressure for the sink and shower is extremely weak, and the water temperature is also fairly cold. Pretty disappointing to experience knowing gym goers pay a monthly membership to utilize these facilities, only to get what seems like charity communal level service.

It's also disgusting and unsanitary how many guys work out there shirtless getting insane amounts of sweat on everything. Finally, and most frustrating, it's hard to get in. There should be an easy way to get in during normal business hours, but that's not the case. I went here for about two years because I liked using the hockey rink for sprint workouts and farmers carry and sled pushes, but they removed most of it and the space isn't that functional anymore. Most of the time, there are small children running around making things like squats tricky because they just show up next to you. They love to say it's $20/mo but that's basically the same price as the local Gold's and Anytime Fitness. Mostly the low rating is because they won't let me cancel my membership. I've moved out of state, and they want me to go in person to cancel. I've called and left messages, sent emails, and I continue to get emails asking for payment.

The gym is literally in a massive garage and has all the free weights, equipment, that you would access in a big box gym plus some equipment I still don't understand how it works. The vibe in the gym is inviting and all types of people come in to workout from weightlifters, cardio junkies, small group of friends keeping each other accountable, new to the gym goers. When I relocated back to Texas during the pandemic I wanted to make sure I connected with a personal trainer that understood the type of workouts I was doing previously, weight loss and strength goals, consistency, and using the gym for mental health. I researched gyms near me and came across Coach Andre's profile and reached out for a free consultation, I signed up on the spot for 3 sessions a week. In the last year I lost 30 lbs, can do a pull up (one, but it's a good one lol) ,and increased mobility and flexibility. I understand people can be intimidated to join a gym let alone hire a personal trainer but if you are looking to take that first step to wards a healthier (I still eat tacos, drink margaritas) lifestyle contact Coach Andre because he will meet you where you are today and help you meet your goals. I know this sounds corny but will share anyway, Coach Andre is a consistent person in my life and as much hell I give him he's not just my coach but my friend!

Parking is an absolute mess, especially in January/February when everyone's trying to keep those resolutions going. So I rarely/never sign up for classes -- this doesn't seem to be a deal-breaker. In my gym going experience, it was/is constantly overcrowded during those times. I signed up for Crunch to be able to take the workout classes - The only time of day where I was able to take these classes were in the evening times. The Legendary Strength class with Coach Blue was by far the most challenging and upbeat class. Highly recommend his class for anyone looking for a tough and fabulous workout! Unfortunately, I took most of my classes with Charmaine. I was really disappointed with my experience in classes led by this instructor. She was constantly off, beat and off tempo, which made it difficult to follow along - especially in a group setting where timing is important. The music was also blasting so loudly over her mic that it was hard to hear any of her cues or instructions. On top of that, Charmaine rarely demonstrated the exercise clearly, so I often wasn't sure if I was doing the movements correctly. Overall, her classes felt confusing and frustrating, I didn't feel like I was getting a safe or productive workout. In my opinion, other instructors in the gym were much better, but my experience with Charmaine as an instructor was constantly disappointing.
