this is THE go-to gym in allen. great equipment selection, great rates, and the regular crowd is mostly agreeable. staff is generally nice as well with some really stand out members. shout out to amaan! also this is one of the spots that uniquely has a women's-only area built in, in case any women would prefer to work out in their own area. my friends tell me wait times for popular equipment can be better there too overall, good vibes here. when i was a member, i had a 9.99/mo plan with a $35/yr annual fee, that was a golden era. even with the price increases i still find it worth while to maintain a yearly membership, but there may be better more flexible options for if you don't primarily live near a fitness connection all year but still want to have a gym to go to when you're in town (specifically for college students, teens, and young adults, read more below) complaints: 1. i really wish that i could maintain a more flexible membership as a student or person who doesn't live near here all year (with a 1 or 3 month no annual fee plan). what prevents me from maintaining an active membership is usually the high mandatory yearly fee added to any contract length. prices can be good specifically if you sign up for a year and/or catch a promotion, and sometimes you'll see deals on shorter term plans, but in general, it's significantly more expensive than a yearly plan, which just doesn't make sense for the community. flexibility for young adults and teens should be prioritized a bit more here with really shorter term or seasonal pricing plans (i.e. a winter break membership, summer break membership, etc.) 2. some gym equipment is out of order occasionally or really worn down. it's not as bad as some other places and in general most if not all equipment is in good condition, but sometimes that one machine i want to use is out of order, and i wish turn around times were faster for repairs. 3. the men's locker room almost always has an unbelievably pungent sweat smell. it's generally clean in there with a nice sauna, shower area, and plenty of lockers, and it is cleaned every day without fail, but something should be done to maintain a better smell there. read more

I have been going to this gym for 10 years and fitness connection froze our family account over a woman who started an argument over a month ago with even letting us know. Apparently this woman has been complaining about what happened and she didn't get her way. We had already talked to a manager the day it happened and it was okay but they decided to be dirty about it and listen to a crazy person that is not all there. they told my husband they were going to call the cops on him when he went to the gym tonight. I guess this time I will need to cancel our membership because this gym doesn't want to hear both sides of they story. Every time I have seen her after the issue, she stare me and my daughter down and makes it uncomfortable to wokout but they don't care about that issue. This place was cool before covid when it used to be a 24/7 gym. Now it's gotten so packed. What does a packed gym mean?? No one retails their weights. Everything is all over the place. Literally all machines are taken during peak hours. I give it three stars because it's extremely affordable. It's a huge gym with plenty of weights and machines including smith machines and squat racks. It also deserves more credit because of the free group workout classes! I just wish that it was 24/7 like it used to be. I think that'll definitely make the gym less packed. I'd feel more motivated to go to the gym. read more

My wife and I rejoined this gym after being gone for a year and a half. we had joined UFC Fitness before they sold out to Crunch fitness. I joined Fitness connection before they had even officially opened many years ago. it's been a slow and steady decline over the years to the point that it is not worth our time to even attempt to workout there. bathtooms are dirty. my wife said the women's bathroom is disgusting and has sinks broken and trash everywher. the amount of kids under 18 on the gym floor is overwhelming. from 4-8 M-F, you will have a very difficult time getting ANY kind of workout in. Their big ceiling fans were broken all summer until last week. if this gym was free, I would be hard pressed to want to go there. The facility and staff at the gym are great and I enjoyed workout out there. The problem is the corporation and issues I dealt with canceling my membership. I called in February to cancel and they explained there was a buy out fee because I signed a year contract that went through June. The buy out fee was the same as the fee for the remaining months. I told the customer service agent that I would keep my membership through the month of June and then I wanted to cancel. June came and I didn't receive an email or a notice about the cancellation so I called to confirm. I spoke with the same agent again and she preceded to tell me I'd have to pay for the month of July as well because I didn't give 30 day notice. I explained to her that I did give more than 30 days notice back in February. She said unfortunately that wouldn't count. I'm frustrated with the lack of direct and open communication by this corporation and the agent I spoke with. read more

Somehow they can send me a text about everything else except the gym is closed, why, and when it may reopen. I'm going to spend this afternoon looking for a new gym. The company as a whole gets 2 stars from me, but this location gets 4 because it's relatively clean, not a ton of broken machines like at the Garland location, and they actually play movies in the ladies' cardio area. I went to this location to close my membership. First all of all, not gentle staff. My one year contract just finished and they still want to charge me an annual maintenance fee for the next year even when I'm not gonna be a member of that gym for the next twelve months. I asked to talk with the manager to see how he can help me. Hopefully ,the manager was coming to the desk but they decided to turn their backs on me while they talked. Then he walked right past me and didn't even try to say hello or talk to me. Staff repeated the same that they cannot help me. In the past if you wanted to cancel, customers had to mail a letter to their corporate offices, It was extremely hard to cancel and took days for them to do it. They would overcharge you and come up with nasty excuses as to why you had to pay more. As of September 23' , if you want to cancel you can call, BUT if you cancel any other day after the 1st of the month (I was told this is when their billing cycle starts, so it doesn't matter if they deduct the money from your bank the 3rd or 4th) you will still be charged a whole extra month. So I wanted to cancel on Sept 6th, but they charged me for October as well because of their "30 day notice policy". They don't tell you this when you sign up, instead their sales people won't leave you alone and pressure you into buying some bs. I would have this in mind before signing up. read more

An employee needed a photo for my membership that i've had for 2 years and made me wait for her to finish with another customer for about 5 minutes. Then wanted me and my buddies to fill out a reference sheet for them and we said sure. I've been going here for years and the gym is about average. Wide variety of equipment - but when machines are down, they are down for the count for a lengthy period of time. This facility has so many amenities which is wonderful, especially for the price point. Majority of the staff is super kind and welcoming. Peak hours are obviously jam packed, but when it's not those peak hours, it's a pretty nice environment to be in. They also offer childcare, which personally was a mess to situate the account (not sure why it took weeks), but (most) staff for the kids club section were so sweet to my kiddo. She can be shy, and they really helped her break out of that shell and made her feel safe. read more

Not enough Free-weight plates. You may get a bench and not have weights to use it. Parking lot has faulty lights - may be a bit picky except at night and early morning when it is a bit more sketchy. Cancellation policy has a fee built in fee that tacks on another $170 for four of our memberships. There is equipment broken constantly. Twice this year I showed up at 5:00AM and the opener did not show. Not so much as an apology. I spoke to the manager and she said she fixed it (termed the employee). Never apologized. Several of TV's are are not on in front of the treadmills. Maybe broken - no idea. Mostly indifferent or no greeting when you come in- (wah Karen) but I'm a customer so act like you appreciate my business. We took our memberships (family of 6) to 24 hour fitness and remedied everything above. Cost me $170 in exit fees but I would pay it gladly to leave. Extremely DISSATISFIED with #fitnessconnection. I've been a member since 2015. No problem but, once I finally decided to purchase personal training. Around 2019 even though I felt it would be a terrible decision. But company had this deal which was obviously too good to be true. It seem pretty easy. I signed up for a contract for PT for a year. Unfortunately this was Right when Covid hit. So the gyms were shut down my membership was frozen. While fighting Covid I had a cancer scare and fought the following year. Fast forward January 2021! Called fitness connection customer service to check on my PT sessions again I was told my sessions were in good standing. I could just go to any location and speak to a personal trainer. Sadly due to health restrictions after looking at the location. I was skeptical because Covid was still pretty fresh. I'm immune compromised now. I had just been released from the hospital for having 20 blood platelets. I literally fought for my life so trying to get fit in a facility like that would put my health at risk. I ask the customer service representative Jessica if I could freeze my sessions again til Covid dissipated. I asked would the sessions expire she told me no all I had to do was call and get them activated once I felt safe the cleaning protocol was being taken seriously in the gym. I was a gym flower so fitness connection didn't look classy like most gyms I was used to. #24hourfitness and I also worked for #LAfitness. Those gyms are up to par completely corporate wise and also having a basic level of good customer satisfactory. I paid 609$ a month for 15 session in 2019 but the contract was canceled due to Covid. The gym also canceled its pt partnership with #Paramountfitness. Which left my account floating in the wind. I just wanted to use my sessions or be refunded. This company is trying to make me pay an additional 300$ for sessions I've never used. IT MAKES NO SENSE! I FEEL VERY MISTREATED MISHANDLED, DISRESPECTED, and DISGAREDED. This process is giving me MENTAL ANXIETY AND IT SUCKS. In such hard times I still tried to work with them, Sadly nothing is resolved. Beware Don't get the Training it's completely stressful. Started going to this gym when they first opened and have spent a lot of time here over the last 8 plus years! It was the best value in the business for $10 a month. After COVID things haven't been the same. Up keep is horrible (busted benches in the sauna, loose treadmill belts, etc) and the clientele started to reflect the price. Too many people with zero gym etiquette or respect. Weights just left all over the place and it became a hunt to find what you need. My wife recently wanted to join so I asked for a day pass to see if she liked it first and they wouldn't let her in unless she paid $15 ($5 more than the monthly membership fee). Frustrating considering I see the staff let folks in all the time without checking in along with me being a long time member who supported them during shut downs. Wife and I took the opportunity to use a free day pass at another gym. I knew things were getting bad at Fitness Connection but had no idea how bad it was until comparing to another gym. I wish I could rate 0. Do NOT join this gym! They are AWFUL! Search to see how many people have issues with canceling their membership... being charged (sometimes YEARS) after they stop going! Here is my personal experience...I froze my account due to COVID (which was not an easy process). I explained to them that my son-in-law has stage 4 brain cancer and my husband and I would not be using our membership until it is safe to do so. They said they would freeze the account for 90 days, I think (maybe 60), but anything beyond that, I would have to have something from my doctor showing medical necessity!!! Excuse me... half a million Americans have DIED as a result... does it get much more medically necessary??? Now I have found out they sent my account to COLLECTIONS... evidently my freeze date was up 2 weeks ago and so they decided rather than automatically extending the freeze like a responsible company that cares about the safety of their customers and employees, or at minimum reaching out to me to discuss... instead they immediately escalate it to their collections department!!! SMH... maybe they forgot they are in the service industry and people are their business?!?!? Unfortunately Fitness Connection does not care about you or your health journey. I have been a member since the gym opened. The price is becoming the only good thing about it. I have noticed , like so many others , things have started to decline. The cable machines are down for repair, the bench pads are cracked and equipment is down for service for extended periods and there are holes in the floor. I have also noticed a lack of gym etiquette with loose weights left everywhere and the floor is very crowded. The staff is friendly enough but I don't see them much on the floor. Gym etiquette is difficult to enforce but a better staff presence might help. The crowds are terrible too with big groups of teenagers standing around talking. This place needs to improve quickly. read more

Most of the ellipticals upstairs need work. Staff could care less. If something is broken it sets for weeks with a sign on it. Most of the treadmills show the use and wear and seems the only time they get attention is when they break and of course the tread part is never changed. I decided to cancel and like someone else noted if you quit at the first of the month you get to enjoy 60 days. They will bill you for the next month. They don't tell you about cancellation when you sign up. They are too excited to get you in the door to mention there cancellation policy. Good gym but extremely deceptive in its operations and especially cancellation process. In anticipation of moving i wanted to cancel my membership and went to front desk to confirm the process. The gal at the front desk grabbed a small square paper and handed it to me (picture below) which explained the process and gave an address to mail the cancellation request to. At a later date i sent the letter and this was during lockdown/quarantine but the letter was returned to me as if the address did not exist. I tried to call, no answer it just kept ringing and no option to leave a message. I attempted to reach out on the Facebook page but the contact option takes me to a broken domain website with no way to communicate. The manager at this location in Allen, Micah, is HORRIBLE. He has NO customer service skills whatsoever, very unprofessional. My daughter walked out in TEARS because of the way this so called 'leader' spoke to her and treated her. She is a new member and was so excited to finally find a gym near her new home but Micah ruined that for her to a point where she no longer wants to return. Him and most of his staff run things the way they want, no structure so patrons get conflicting information. read more

Real decent gym if you can get there during the non busy hours ( early morning or late night). There's a smoothie shop next door that sells cheap pre- workout shots for a boost too. The inside is large and there's a good amount of equipment for everyone. Private workout area ( cardio/ yoga / lightweight stuff) for shy women in the ladies locker room ( idk about the men's area). They have a sauna, basketball court, upstairs cardio area with rowers, bikes, treadmills, and downstairs is for weight machines. I wish they had a bigger free weight section. They also have group classes available ( but they aren't very good) . The personal trainers with the gym will also try to sell their services to you during your workout, they go away if you ignore them. read more

I would give 0 stars if it was possible. I joined the gym two years ago and it's been a quick decline since then. The cancellation process involves a hand written letter that takes 3 weeks for them to process-- makes me question the integrity of the company. I wouldn't get a membership here. Staff is okay. They're quite bombarding. It's uncomfortably crowded and they took out the cardio theatre room-- which essentially pulled me into the place. It's not kept up with.
