The manager of our bed and breakfast recommended this place as a good place to get food and I am glad he did. Ambiance and decor are spot on what you'd expect from a Dublin-based pub. We came into live music on Tuesday night, a friendly staff, and most importantly good food and drinks. The open faced Roast Beef sandwich was incredibly tender with juices that soak into the bread and make it a delightful meal. The Guinness Stew featured braised Irish meat and potatoes with mushrooms and was delightful surprise! I had actually ordered than one based on the bartender's recommendation and am again glad I listened. The only odd bit was the crazy amount of ice they put into their Irish Mules. I know it's a mixed drink and typically not what you go for in places like this, but it was a good flavor, with just an exorbitant amount of ice.. I'm staying next door at a Camden Court Hotel for a work trip. On a Saturday night, tonight, when my colleagues were inside and told me to join for a drink, I walked up wearing the shirt from work, in the photo I'm listing. An employee was in front of the door and not moving, I asked if there was space inside, he looks me over and says "no there's not, have a good night". It has a history in Dublin. A landmark so to speak. Outside it's unassuming but the interior is wonderfully old, late 1800s, with multiple floors and multiple rooms. It's a live and boisterous atmosphere. Historic and a tourist destination. My recommendation is to go for a beer / whiskey and forget ordering food. Non of our dishes were anyway special, in fact mediocre. Go for beer or whiskey as two of our three cocktails were sub par. My Irish Manhattan made w Powers Rye was exciting to order and what I received was a watered down mess. The Whiskey Sour tasted very weird, as if made with a sour mix. The waiter brought out one persons meal and then we waited 15 minutes for the other orders. The waiter came around and asked us to pay up before any of us had close to finished which is just bizarre for anywhere else. This pub is awesome, they play 90s music which was awesome, but the overall vibe of this place is super chill. We were greeted as soon as we went in by the bartender, to get our drinks out of the way and the sat so that we could eat. Super efficient, because it gave us time to look over the menu. I'm visiting Dublin and walked past this pub, looked interesting , so I went in, it has a long history has been around since the 1600's and had a nice dark wood interior. I ordered a glass of mine and my friend a Guinness, then we ordered food, I had the fish and chips and he had the roast beef sandwich. My fish and chips was good nothing special but not bad at all. My friends sandwich actually looked better than what I ordered and he said it was very good. The staff was attentive and it had a very fun atmosphere, this was at 4:30 pm on a Monday. The pie was not at all what I expected, which could just be because I'm American. I had the questionable pleasure of being at The Bleeding Horse to witness Kerry slaughtering Dublin in last weekend's GAA quarter final. Not a pretty sight for all you Dubs out there (my commiserations). However I have to say I was impressed with how well the locals handled the loss... When I worked in a bar in England I used to have whole pints thrown at me if England lost an important match, but the lads here were a lot more restrained than all that. If the Dubs' performance ever stooped to an excruciating low (and that it did, several times), yer man in the Dubs jersey would simply take himself outside for a 'moment of calm'. Very civilised. Other than the GAA whitewash, The Bleeding Horse is mighty good craic for a pint or two or ten. It's a big hit with the tourists, with its Arthur Guinness 'pour-your-own-pint' tables and the large wall hanging of Arthur himself. There are lots of nooks and crannies in which to ensconce yourself with a pint of the black stuff, and by all reports, the bald bar tender here pours some of the best Guinness in Dublin. read more

Back in Dublin again and happy to stop in at one of my favorites (there are many) here in town: the Bleeding Horse. There's something for just about everyone here. First of all, great beverages (like any Pub in Ireland); nice atmosphere with high ceilings; music in the evenings and great food. Service is excellent. The Bleeding Horse runs some good daily specials on the food that are worth checking out and considering. I thoroughly enjoy their basic Irish Stew (see picture) and is favorite The lamb is lean...no fatty pieces; rich sauce that pairs well with the hearty brown bread. My colleague had the daily meat pie. It looked great (see pic). He liked it. I might try it, but will always be tempted by the Irish Stew. read more

The Bleeding Horse is probably my local... I don't really have a local, but this is the bar I have consistently being going to over the last ten years that I've been living in the area. Its a grand place for a quiet drink during the week, before the DJ arrives. Even after that its enjoyable. On Fridays and Saturdays, later on in the night it fills up and the music volume goes up a notch. But its still pleasant and usually it doesn't get too jammers. The music was good tonight, standard mix of new pop music and old pop music. The service was fine and the drink on offer the usual bar / pub fare. It's a good place for sport too, with lots of TVs around the place. So if there are two big sporting events on, they'll be showing both. I've not tried the food in a long time, so cannot comment on it. But if memory serves me, I've told myself not to order food here again. But as I've said, I've not tried the food here in a long time. I have to admit I was very reluctant to check this place out. I even popped my head in once before actually committing to coming here and honestly was not impressed. This is your typical "drinks after work" place and it excels at this so much that it gets really really busy after work. First time I came here it was a Sunday evening and I snuck in a couple of drinks and downed a plate of wings to wind down a pretty hectic weekend - and I was very pleasantly surprised by the food. Contradicting everything I said above, best time I had here was with a friend after work, and when the place was actually pretty quiet. One of the best pubs in the Candem street area. That place is actually big and intricated - it means you can get lost on the way to the toilet haha It's perfect for big groups, as they have that big long tables. It is always crowded downstairs but the best and cozy tables are upstairs. Not exactly extensive selection of beers but they have Franciscan well red so I was fine. The kitchen is open until 10pm - smth I really appreciate. Chicken wings are good - but too small. The chicken burger is fair in size and comes with tons of chips. read more

Usually here for an afternoon drink or for the start to my night out. I really got to know this pub with I was refurbishing the hotel behind it "The Camden Court". I like it. Plan and simple. Not pretentious and just does what it does best. Serve food and drink. Windows are usually painted up with what's going on at the moment ie Rugby Match, Soccer, GAA etc. which is a nice touch and always eye catching. Big bar and seating on multi-levels. Always somebody in it and bar staff very friendly. Smoking area outside but screened off from passers by and you'd happily spend your evening out there if the weather suited. Great pint of Guinness and the last time I was in they had "Pour your own Pint" stations set up around the main bar where Guinness has taps fitted to the centre of cocktail tables (the tall round tables you stand up beside). Not just Guinness but some of their other brand too, Carlsberg etc. Must try this out the next time I see them. read more

This review is specifically for the bar, not food. Although the bar was crowded, we were able to order drinks quickly at the bar. The music was spot on for the hour, and we easily had a great time in this lively scene. The bar should supply cocktail napkins at the bar for patrons to use. A bathroom attendant in both men's and women's restrooms would really help to keep things moving, stocked, and clean. Extra staff on busy nights would help keep cups and glasses moving from the tables to the kitchen. Looking at the mounds of dirty glasses on the bar tables was unsightly, unclean, and possibly hazardous. Despite those critiques, it is a gem. Cheers! read more

The Bleeding Horse is on my route to and from home when I head into the city, and I've been intrigued by the name of the pub. Assuming the bartender knew the correct story, it's so named because this was the location where people would bring their horses to be "bled" the same way that people used to get that treatment medicinally. Luckily, I received much nicer attention when I was there on a Sunday night. Surely because of the day of the week, it was rather quite, but I was warmly welcomed by the barkeep, and I thoroughly enjoyed the old wood and general character of the place. I always have a good time here - actually as I'm writing this it reminds me to come here more often! What I like about the Bleeding Horse is that there's enough space to sit, chat, smoke, drink, make out etc. They have an upstairs and an outdoor area, so if it gets too steamy inside, there's no need to yell at each other or smell the tasty sweat of the drunken guy next to you. As my fellow Yelpers said before, this is also a pretty good sports bar with loads of TV screens. When I went inside for a pint the other night, the pub was crowded but almost silent, as everybody was staring at the screens. There was some rugby match going on, well, what do I know. Big plus for the bartenders who know how to do the Jäger Bomb without charging you for Red Bull and Wodka separately. read more

We weren't too impressed to be honest, the coddle was lukewarm and way too salty and my soup was ok but I was very disappointed with the bread which was a bit bland. would you believe I'd never been in the Bleeding Horse until last night? I think it was en vogue with my mates over 10 years ago, which coincided with me not living in Dublin. Anyway it was decided on as the place to meet some students I had shared an office with - a bit of a reunion. The Bleeding Horse lives up to its reputation as a really nice bar. There are lots of alcove and tables. There was quite attentive lounge service and food served until 9.30pm. We even had one of those tables with the beer taps on it, but none of us were adventurous enough to pull our own pints. The music was present but not intrusive, so it was a good place to meet for a chat, and yet it still had a busy enough atmosphere for mid-week. The only thing that bugged me was that I didn't understand why the locks on the toilet doors were so high up - what's that about. Now I didn't have trouble reaching them, but then I have friends who've had to ask me to reach things for them, so I can't help but think this might be problematic for littler girls - or maybe I'm just overthinking this!! read more

Last night was the first time in ages that I went to this pub. I forgot how big it is. Excellent spot to watch the soccer - loads of TV screens. There also was a scattering of gas fires which really helped with the atmosphere and was so relaxing against the dark wood. The Guinness was fantastic as was the service, exceptionally friendly and down to earth. Where it was lacking was the fact that I was treated to a free porn show from a drunken couple - that is not the fault of the pub but the chart music playing on the speakers makes me think that it's popular with the young wans with their raging hormones! I'm a strong fan of this pub. It's an historic pub. There was a brief name change, we won't mention that. Good spot in a good location and has some dark spots to chill in. There's typical good music and again is a great date bar! I'd recommend this pub as your ancestors have very likely drank in it. Again I would give 3.5 stars, but Emily doesn't allow that. Why not 4/5 stars. Crazy reason. They have removed most of upstairs It's now a barbers! You can have a pint as you get a haircut. Day time only, sorry! I think they couldn't fill it in the bust period, but they need to put the bar back upstairs as I had many good nights in it. The limited upstairs bar isn't big enough, so kick out the barbers and I'll update my review!! read more

I love the bleeding horse, possibly because its one of the first places I went to in Dublin when I started coming over. Its a sports bar / local / trendy bar depending on what day of the week and what sports on at the time. If you want to watch GAA, football or even cricket ( you might have to request that one ) then they will put it on for you. Its quite a big place and later on at the weekends a DJ does start banging out the tunes, so if you are not after that you maybe disappointed. Even though its big it has a lot of different rooms and corners and an upstairs with more rooms and corners. So its quite quirky in its design as well. Never tried the food so wont comment. Never actually seen anyone eating there either! One last tip if you have visitors, you can book a table and pour your own Guinness from selective tables. read more
