Any version of Bee"s Wings online does not compare. Please go and check it out. The prices are very reasonable and not touristy. This was a little bit of a walk from the city center but less touristy. We were seated in a section that was divided off so it wasn't as noisy even though there was live music playing while we were there (and they were good). The menu had a varied selection. We ordered the black pudding and leek coquettes and they were delicious! The whole table devoured them & we probably could have eaten another order of them. My brother ordered the cabbage and bacon, as that was what he had been craving, and he was very happy with that. I ordered the stew and was a little disappointed. It wasn't bad but it was more a creamy chicken broth consistency and I was expecting more of a brown beef stew gravy. The beer selection was good with options that satisfied all three of us. Charming pub. Stopped by after a tour of the Guinness Storefront. Service was great! Our waitress was quick and very attentive. She made sure we had water and answered any questions about the food. Food came out super fast and very good. It was not as rambunctious and noisy as other pubs but they did have music going on. Bathroom was nice and clean. The food and service were excellent. The interior was massive and had the character that made it feel so welcoming. The house cat was so cool. He was open to attention and seemed to relish his roll. Charmingly quaint pub. If they're busy it'll take forever to get service, but when you do get it, it's friendly and obliging. The guy sitting at the table behind me tried to order breakfast and the waitress refused to serve him breakfast because it was literally 10:01 and she said they stop serving breakfast at 10:00. At first, he (and I) thought she was joking. When he realized there was no humor, humility, nor humanity in her soul, he said that he just flew into town, wasn't feeling particularly well, and really wanted a hot breakfast to make him feel better. It is a freaking great place to catch some traditional live music which is always lively and good craic. There are lots of country folk here in the main room and for years it was just these and the locals that you would fined here, but now! oh it is a different story! I went here for a mid-week lunch as the guest of a wonderful group of people. I think we flustered the service staff a bit, they had a hard time keeping track of who had ordered what, and there were several confusing "who has the wine opener" moments. The food was decent-I had the grilled salmon salad plate, coffee and apple pie w/ice cream for desert. The apple pie was more like applesauce in a crust, but tasty, so no stars taken off for stylistic differences of culinary opinion. Prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was fine for an afternoon. LOTS of locals eating lunch here, including many uniformed Gardai, which is always a good sign in my view. Nice decor, neither too preciously Irish nor too aggressively low-key local, and the tables were easily rearranged to suit our rather large crowd. Bottom Line: If you want a decent local lunch and see what the regular folk are up to, stop in and grab a bite. read more
