I've known Bill Sr. for eons but not Bill Jr. You've GOT to do better. We tried the Thurs night chicken pot pie special and were very disappointed! Small, watery with only ONE chunk of turkey. The rest were tiny bits floating around in an over salted crust. $23.00??!! Suggestion for the chef. Go to Smithville Inn and try theirs for tips. The place was busy for lunch on a Tuesday and is a hybrid of an Irish pub and a diner in terms of decor. Went with the roast beef sandwich and a side of fries. The beef was under seasoned, a bit colder than I'd like on a warm sandwich and a bit chewy. The horseradish sauce lacked a kick, even after getting more on the side. Fries were solid. I'm not into corned beef & cabbage, soda bread or even the Irish potato candy, but my wife does so I guess I do, too. Day before Saint Paddy's day and the wife wanted some Irish cooking. This is our first time and I'm pleasantly surprised. They had the "St. Patrick's Day dinner" with corned beef and cabbage, potato soup, soda bread or house made Guinness chocolate cake. We started out with a real good seriously Hot potato soup. My kid really liked the Fitz special. My French dip on an Italian roll (I thought that was kind of funny). Was also very good. I have been driving by Fitzpatrick's deli for years and finally stopped in for lunch. The atmosphere was very diner like not what I would think of as a steak house. Service was fair as server didn't stop by for drink refills. I left my phone on the table and no one came after me despite having cleaned the table very quickly. I ran back into the restaurant table was cleared and they were ready to sit another party down. I stopped the stop bus boy and asked if he found my wallet which was not taken to the front best move to a service area location. Last Friday, we had a surprise birthday celebration at Fitz's for our sister who was visiting from LA. We reserved a dozen seats on the "porch." They ok'd my daughter arriving 1/2 hour early to set up balloons. I have to say the affair went off flawlessly! As usual, the staff was wonderful. Our server kept us provisioned with drinks and was available for questions and requests. She was amazing. The atmosphere was more than we could have hoped for. I don't know what it is today, but I'm just going to make all of my sandwiches at home. The bread is obviously too small. The width cannot handle the meat and the cheese and the toppings. When you make a sandwich, you're not supposed to use a hydraulic press on both of the cheese and the ham before you add to the sandwich. It's supposed to be light and airy. Which can be achieved by folding the meat 2x. It's not that hard Let me just ask the peanut gallery: should everything squish out of the sandwich when you take a bite? We started at their old location in the Groveland Plaza and when relocated to their NEW RESTAURANT, We have continued to enjoy their delicious breakfast, lunch and dinners! I must add that when we our family and friends visiting, We will drive from Linwood and order from there wide selection of DELI, SALADS, CHOPPED LIVER AND LOX, WHITEFISH AND BREAD! Turkey was warmed as well. It was very filling and very good. Potato salad served with it was a large portion but I found it very bland and would have been fine with chips. We have been coming to Fitzpatrick's since we were kids, over 40 years. It has changed significantly and for the worse. The Italian Sausage and Onions omelette had 4 little pieces of sausage. Not enough to call this a sausage omelette. The corned beef hash has never had green peppers. It now does and takes away from what made it so good. The pancakes are dry. Would love some butter and syrup but what was provided was not enough. 10 yo niece got the New Orleans French Toast and she said that she needed a chainsaw to cut it, her words not mine. We had to find someone for a refill when coffee ran out twice. Why? Because the waitress was mysteriously absent. Waitress showed up three times. Once to take the orders, once to deliver drinks, once to deliver food. Everyone near us is complaining about the waitress. We had to chase her down for everything else. Most of the time we could not find her and someone else helped out. Their prices have kept pace but the quality has not and service is non existent. Also, they overcharged us for items on the special again. This happened to us the last time we were here too. It ain't the spot for me! My fiancé has never been fond of this establishment's food, but his grandparents *always* want to order in from here, so I decided to take a leap of faith and give it a try. To start, I insisted we try the Buffalo cauliflower bites...I don't know what I was thinking! They were awful. I felt so terrible wasting them but I couldn't get past two bites. As for a main, I went with the grilled chicken wrap...Oy! The wrap probably would have been OK if the Caesar dressing came on the side, but there was so much of it sitting against the fresh and not chicken that it ended up clumping and was the farthest from appetizing. A super let down! The only saving grace of this meal was the French fries that weren't even mentioned as included...what a lovely surprise! J got the bacon cheeseburger and said it was probably one of the better things Fitzpatrick's can make. We chose to do a regular pickup order...we arrived past our given time to an unready order- fine not a huge deal, BUT.....the place barely was serving people...to the point that all the servers were sitting around chatting with each other. It's hard to look past the overall bland and overpriced food when our first experience was a rude host. The male host with long shaggy hair was rude and acted like it was a bother that we came here for a meal. I even heard him whisper to the other host that he just plans on seating everyone else before us (we had a larger party) because he doesn't feel like figuring out where to put us. We waited an hour for our quoted 30 minute wait. It doesn't feel right to be treated as an inconvenience for something as simple as coming into a business for their intended purpose. I'm cautiously issuing this place with a 5/5. I had a great experience this morning and my dad is a frequent customer and always leaves happy. That influences my review heavily. My dad can be a tough customer. There were a couple of minor flaws but they weren't glaring. I was easily able to overlook some things being that I enjoyed both the meal and service. I decided to go ahead and do some breakfast while dad did the white fish and lox combo platter. The omelette I ordered was good but that's hard to ruin. I thoroughly enjoyed their hash browns. They were cooked nicely with some chopped onion and good flavor. The lox and white fish was very fresh. I tasted it and was impressed. The kicker was the price to portion ratio. Slightly off putting as far as I'm concerned. Definitely could've tossed one more piece of lox onto the platter at that price AND I could've used some more potatoes on my plate. We were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. Very diverse menu with lots of excellent selections. We both decided on the chicken bow tie soup which was out of this world! I feel that restaurants that don't t take reservations don't respect their customers but went anyway. There were four of us and we were told it would be a 15 minute wait. 45 minutes we were finally seated by a host who couldn't get me name (Jim) straight. The October Fest menu was very confusing. Tow of us wanted Iced Tea - they just ran out - at 6PM. They later Found Iced Tea. Got the potato pancakes which were pretty tasty but quite greasy. The Wienerschnitzel and spatzle were very disappointing. I'm used to an authentically prepared Wienerschnitzel and this wasn't it. The spatzle were OK and I'm being generous. Rating 4.5 --- Very enjoyable probably one of the best Polish Kielbasa I've had in a very long time. Specifically asked for it split in the middle and cooked well. Eggs were cooked perfectly; very fresh taste -- not sure if the eggs are organic or not but they just have a different taste to me. My daughter-in-law had the cinnamon bun French toast and really really enjoyed it I think she left a little bit of the pecans and walnuts. My son had a veggie omelette he really didn't comment one way or another but he did eat the whole thing. This is our second time substituting fruit for the potatoes. The fruit is extremely fresh.. According to my husband the men's room was very clean I cannot comment on the ladies room. Gone here so many times over the last couple years. The sandwiches are great, and packed full. Usually get the big Fitz special, or turkey and pastrami. There's usually a breakfast special from 7-9, which is good. It's usually around $5-6 and comes with pancakes and meat or eggs depending on the month. Pancakes are great, scrambled eggs not so much. Only downside is there's no host, even with the host station in the front of the restaurant. So, most of the time you will walk in and wait to catch someone's attention to seat you. Once you get seated the service is good. I love how the waitresses will seat with some of the older regulars who are alone, it is adorable! read more
