This place was great when it first opened years ago. Stopped going there about 2 yrs ago because it seemed to go downhill. But decided to check it out again and if see if things got better. Nope. Wrong order (the waiter entered it wrong) then replacement (the correct order) hadn't come out for over 20 minutes when we said cancel it. My husband never had breakfast. We had to go across street to donut shop. My avocado toast was brown avocado had onions cilantro lemon in it when I asked if it was just real avocado smashed and waiter said yes. If I knew it had onions etc I would not have ordered it. Also one of my eggs was still raw yolk. Noticed them making chocolate milk and they kept the milk under the counter not back in the fridge. We were there for an hour and the whole time it was out. No salt and pepper on the tables. Had to ask. When I got the pepper it was full yet nothing came out. It was all caked together. We were compensated with a $25 gift card which was very generous but not sure we will use it no interest in going back. Hate to see this with a local place. When we walked in, it was a nice vibe, cool menu, freshly squeezed orange juice. Easy prices. But cold inside. I do not want to yelp these people. We actually talked about that one South Park episode. The toast was barely toast. It was warm. The bacon was black. Seriously! She said there was no sourdough toast and only rye My girlfriend ordered the classic and received rye toast (bread). The crumb cake "straight from the oven to the grill" was super weird. The crumb part and the cake part were CLEARLY separate refrigerated pieces that were BOTH blackened on the bottom during the reheat process and then put back together. Super weird. Cold on the top and inside but burnt under the crumb? How do you do that? It's supposed to be one piece like a cupcake. No one separates the crumb and heats it, let alone to the point of burning. If you mess up a food, don't serve it! Throw it out! The server was nice and they serve fresh orange juice. Which I will return for. But she made several mistakes. I ordered the classic breakfast with pork roll instead of home fries and she brought it with the homefries too. But without the toast (bread) it came with. I asked her for the toast it came with a she quickly came out with sourdough toast that was 1/5 the size of ordinary toast and small slices of rectangular bread underneath. The fries with sausage gravy... that's not sausage gravy. That's white cornstarchy, watery, cream stuf. My girlfriend accepted it, but I think she is more accepting. I think you should always tip your server because I was a server, but she did not deserve 20% that I gave her unless she was new, because in a way, new servers, who don't use notepads and accept minuscule end cuttings of bread as toast deserve both correction and tips because they are learning. But that was really weird for me! It's not a big deal I know, just ask for bigger toast. But my gf had normal sized toast. And it was clearly the end cuttings of bread. The only reason we asked for boxes was to feed the birds with our leftovers. I should have taken pictures but I didn't want to make the server nervous. Please care about the food. read more

A little pricey for what you get. $12 for a children's pancake order add a side of bacon. This did not include the drink. I wanted to love this place so much... it is a cute little cafe on the corner with perfect outside seating in addition to their nice but small dining room/cafe area. It just wasn't meant to be... We were sat quickly, and waited almost 10 minutes for our waitress. She came over and we told her that we were ready to order -- she wanted to take drinks first, then food. OK, I guess... so we ordered the breakfast empanadas (which are listed as a starter), the big breakfast, the Donut FT, and the breakfast burrito with coffee, chocolate milk, and fresh OJ. Coffee, OJ, and chocolate milk came out quickly -- but my coffee was almost cold... not quite, but it certainly was not hot... and it was terribly bitter. I attributed the bitterness to the fact that it came from the bottom of their coffee dispenser. Called the waitress over to let her know, and she looked annoyed, and scampered off with my cup promising a fresh one. I watched them brew a fresh pot and I eventually got a fresh one, after watching 4 other tables get coffee... Unfortunately, it was nasty and bitter, too... So, I have to say that their coffee just isn't very good. I did not finish the cup, which is saying something. Meanwhile, we still sat and waited... and waited... then... all our food came out at once after almost 20 minutes. So, even though the menu said the empanadas were starters, I guess they are more shareables... beats me. What I will say about those empanadas is they were delicious! Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was not. My wife said the eggs didn't taste right, the bacon was like cardboard, and the toast wasn't toast, it was bread (IE: not hot and not crisped at all). The sausage was hard and flavorless, reminded me of brown and serve sausage from the freezer. My son took two bites of the burrito and ate everyone else's food after that. All he said was he didn't like it. My Donut FT was disappointing... On the menu it says "Drip N Scoop donuts, sliced and grilled" - giving me the impression that they made them fresh when ordered -- I was wrong... very wrong. The donuts were clearly several days old, dry, crumbly, and hard in spots with little to no flavor. It wasn't terrible - it was OK - but I was disappointed. We did not hate it here - overall, it was fine... so three stars is what they get... the place looks great, good ambience, but the food wasn't fresh, and they need to address their coffee. A lovely little establishment. I appreciate that they have a lot of outdoor seating but I will say for a Sunday morning it was definitely pretty busy. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table of three. Not a big deal though because it was a nice day. I will say though that the hostess was not particularly friendly or warm natured. It made me a little nervous before being seated. We ordered the French toast, red white and blue pancakes, and the western omelette. The food wasn't mind blowing but it was tasty and reasonably priced. We come to OCNJ every year and somehow have never made it here! Kylie was super sweet and efficient and everything came out super fast. I even got gluten free toast which is SO exciting for me to find. Just have to ask for it - I don't think it's not on the menu. My dad and brother got a pitcher of the fresh orange juice and it was SO good, even I had some and I don't (usually) like juice. We were given a choice of seating inside or outside. We chose outside. Got a very nice private table. Waitress came over almost immediately. She took our drink orders. Brought them out very quickly. Took our meal orders. Food arrived in a timely manner. Everything was fresh with large portions. We had our granddaughters with us. They enjoyed seeing the hawk lady. (Hawk on her arm to scare seagulls away.) Bill less than other breakfast restaurants and portions larger. All in all a very pleasant experience. Even our granddaughters said it was "really good". Update: Well it's been a year and wanted to give it another go. We figured since it was still the off season we would have better luck. Limited people in the restaurant and open tables, those that were seated were finishing up. The hostess did let us know that the kitchen was backed up and there would be a significant wait before we would get our food. This was greatly appreciated! It appears that they still do not have the capacity to serve both take out and in house orders. This was an issue previously I hope they figure it out but this is our third attempt and since there other choice within walking distance we left. Previous reviews below: Waited to be seated told 20 min was a half hour after we were seated, ordered immediately it's now an hour later and 2 table seated after we ordered have received their food. We had a similar experience once before but figured we would give it another try. The food is decent but comes out cold so what's the point. Nice breakfast spot right in the mix on Asbury. They have limited seating, but we were able to get a seat at the counter right away. They have fresh squeezed orange juice, which is awesome, but beware; it's $5 a glass. Other than the orange juice, everything is reasonably priced, more so than most breakfast spots in the area. Fresh Squeezed OJ: The orange juice tasted delicious, but was on the smaller side for a $5 glass (no refills on the fresh squeezed OJ). It was also warm, so I put a few ice cubes from my water glass into it - much better. Red, White & Blue French Toast: My french toast was cooked perfectly to an appropriate crispiness.
