I very much enjoy going to the Fitzwater Station on a nice day. Sitting along the railing, overlooking the canal is so relaxing. The food is good, I have always had good service and the prices are reasonable. I have brought my kids here for an outside lunch or dinner every year for a treat and they love it. They are grown now and still enjoy going and feeding the ducks, fish and turtles with the day-old bread they provide (and still do?). Yes, the place could be considered a little shabby in places, but not dirty and the outside seating is worth it! I hope they stay in business forever! read more

From start to finish this place is a must. The owner is delightful the service was excellent. Our dog was allowed and that was always a plus for us but even if you don't have a dog this place must be on your visit list. You can eat Right on the canal which is always nice. Like I said the service was excellent. If you like beer they have that if you like frozen drinks they have that they even have frozen popsicles to finish off the night. They smoke everything right in house and they even have a To-Go menu for catering or just pick up on another night. Being Jewish I'm highly critical of my brisket and this was amazing my husband got kielbasa and my dog got a chicken breast that was probably one of the best chicken breasts I've seen in a long time. We also ordered off the puppy menu which was three pieces of bacon from the smoker and they were amazing. Prices were very reasonable including tip and tons of food it was $50. Stopped in with my parents yesterday for an unplanned Mother's Day lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find ample patio seating available. The menu is not huge and is pretty seafood-centric, but we were all more than happy with our orders (fish tacos for me, steak sandwich for mom, chicken quesadilla for dad), and a shared basket of bottomless chips and salsa topped off the meal nicely. As time passed, the tables around us filled up, and plenty of people passed by in kayaks on the canal and bikes on the trail. We sat directly in the sun since it was a bit cool yesterday afternoon, but there is a covered portion of the patio that I imagine must be nice on hot summer days. I wish I knew our server's name because she was terrific--very friendly and helpful, even as the place became increasingly busy. I come here for the kayak rentals - USS Port Providence. I love it! It's super easy and no shuttle needed. There is a walk (uphill) you will need to make with your kayak to get from the river side, back to the more narrow canal side but worth it! You can spend the day watching turtles, relaxing on the water and pack a picnic when you stop at Lock 60. I STRONGLY suggest making reservations. I always send an email and hear back same day. They only have 1 tandem kayak but I recommend singles anyway since the area where you need to pull the kayak can feel a bit far. Great outdoor patio and on Sundays in the warm months they have bands that play out on the lawn - bring your families, a blanket or chairs and enjoy. read more

This place is hilarious, huge and on the water. Rumor has it that you can rent kayaks/canoes while drinking. They have a pretty small bar and table area but then open up to some pool tables and a gigantic deck. Sitting at a table with Peter B. I think he summed this place up best: the inmates run the asylum. We showed up on a Saturday- karaoke night. There were maybe 5 people who sang, 3 of which worked for or were good friends with the staff. So, if want to go belt out some tunes and hone your skills this is a great venue. The rest of the crowd was funny and included an awesome lady who danced and grooved to everyone's songs. Beers are cheap but not a huge selection. I'd go back to hang out on the deck, rent some kayaks or do some above average people watching. But, overall, I'm pretty underwhelmed. read more

Just had linner( early dinner). Nice deck looking over the canal with kayaks canoes etc people walking on the trail. Peaceful and fun. We were VERY happy with our meal. I received the worst service ever here! Just HORRIBLE!! 1st the table was dirty 2nd they out things, like greens for a salad! 3rd we never received utensils, napkins, or water ( I went inside to get napkins & ketchup) 4th I went back inside to find the waitress to ask for my side of sauce & plate to put the peels from shrimp on 5th waitress never came around to see how things were going, if we needed anything else, ready for the check. My daughter went to the car to get her water out because she was so thirsty & tired of waiting 6th I had to ask somebody else for my check 7th Again, waitress never came to collect my check, I went into the bar to pay 8th this girl game me the wrong change!!! 3.5 stars. I came to canoe. They allow dogs, which is a plus. When you canoe, in order to make a loop, you have to get out of the water and drag your canoe two times, which was a pain. We worked up an appetite and decided to stay for lunch. I had the chicken salad, which was huge and very tasty. S had the Salmon BLT. We both enjoyed our food. My only complaint was that the service was extreeeemely slow. And the waitress forgot to bring the beer. But even brought ice cubes for the dogs water! I would have given a 0 star if it was an option. Service was horrible, food was blah, and other customers were loud and rude. There were only 3 or 4 tables and the waitress took more than 20 minutes to get us the check. We ordered crab fries instead of chips to go with the sandwich, but she gave us regular fries and charged extra. I have been here a few times and food has been good service not great but not terrible. I went here with my family and friends for a birthday -the place wasn't busy- We sat on the patio and had the worst service ever - drinks took forever one round took about 30 minutes. We had no silverware- food came out cold. We ended up spending about $300.00 and we were super dissapointed it pretty much ruined the birthday celebration. I can't review the food here but can review the service because after waiting over 15 minutes just to get a couple of beers I left. Was on a Sunday, the final straw was when local regular said that this was normal service, they are understaffed and have been for years. Prices were high side too for a place like this. Overwhelmingly, underwhelming. I saw the shrimp BLT. The description was great, expecting a burst of flavor when I took a bite. Shrimp was supposed to be seasoned and there was no flavor at all. Even the bacon tasted cheap. My girlfriend got the fish tacos which was served with salmon. (A pleasant surprise) until we tried it. It was completely over cooked and tasted like it had been in a fridge for a week. The good part of fitzwater is the outdoor dining. Great random find after a day at the Philly Expo Center. Nice cheap beer specials and good food. Very nice people behind the bar. A bit of a wait to get a table on a Sunday, so my friend and I went straight to the bar, which was the goal anyway. Food also took a while to get to us (about 30-40 mins), but I understand that it was really busy. Everything arrived very hot, so at least it's not as if it had been sitting and waiting. The Clam Chowder was excellent. They also have a nice deck and offer canoe and kayak rental, which we didn't take part in, but the prices seemed reasonable. I've been here a couple of times: once to rent a canoe and once to drink and play Quizzo. I can't speak for the food, but the drinks are to be expected and the Quizzo is pretty standard. It's a pretty chill place with lots of places to sit. It's sort of back in a neighborhood and generally not too crowded. My son owns a catering service and let me tell you after working tons of events during the week and weekend, the last thing we want to do is be rushed in a typical restaurant setting. Surely appreciate the service, fun atmosphere, beautiful setting. Also, a bonus is that the owner leaves the stale bread for the kids to feed the ducks and geese. I have become a bit of a regular here. The Iced tea is great, the food is good, the service is good and friendly. There is a deck you can sit out on when the weather is right, other wise there is a sitting area in the bar or in a glassed in deck. The decor is dated, but in general my husband and I enjoy ourselves every time we go. read more

This place is as low key as it gets. The food is good, they have vegetarian options, it's a great place to sit and chill with a drink. Have been here for lunch a couple of times and the lunch specials are always worth a try. The staff is friendly but leaves you alone to enjoy your food, drink and conversation. Waited and waited and waited more for drink re-fills that never did come. Check please. Suggestion to management. My first visit to Fitzwater Station was on 3/17/18 after the Luck of the Irish 10 Miler. It didn't go so well. As part of the race the runners were supposed to get a free beer but instead we were denied and got to hear the bartender argue about it. One of the race representatives even tried giving him his credit card to honor the runners that didn't get a beer but he wouldn't take it. Our hungry group of 12 decided it would be better to leave and went to Root Down (great place and staff!). We ate, drank and even got 4 packs to go. read more

There aren't a lot of places where you can sit in a wooded area near a canal and eat and drink alfresco while watching kayakers paddle by. The food and drink are nothing spectacular, and the inside is dark and not very inviting. But you are there to sit on the small elevated deck and enjoy the day. I am so disappointed I do not even know where to begin. My family has enjoyed The Fitz for over 15 years. My husband and I are also fans of the French Quarter Bistro and were delighted when the new management took over the Fitz and changed the menu. We have visited the Fitz several times over the past few months and have not been disappointed...until today. We arrived at 11:30 and were the only patrons in the place ( they open at 11:00 so it was not surprising that it was empty before the lunch crowd). We were greeted by a "quirky" ( you will see where I am going with this later) , young, tattooed waitress. She was VERY excited to see us and proceeded to tell us she was so glad we were there because the restaurant has been really slow lately and she needed to make some money. She came over to take our drink order but could not remember the types of beers so my husband walked to the bar area to pick one out.. A few minutes later she came back to see if we were ready to order, we were still checking out the menu so we placed an order for some potato skin appetizers. While we were placing the order some more patrons entered and our waitress ran over to greet them and said she was so excited to see people so she could make some money. Once they were seated she redirected herself to us and took our apps order. a few minutes later she returned to take our order, as we started to tell her what we wanted she said " Oh wait I should probably write this down" and then disappeared to the bar area. Returning with paper and pen she now seemed ready to take our order. My son ordered a cheese-steak with fries and my daughter a cheeseburger and fries. I ordered a Turkey Cobb Sandwich ( a lunch special) and my husband ordered wings. Our waitress dashed off with our order immediately not even asking how the burger was to be cooked, what type of cheese for the steak or burger or what type of wing sauce my husband wanted. A few minutes later she was back asking who ordered the chicken sandwich. Um.. what???? She reviewed our orders with us and we determined that when she wrote down cheeseburger she could not read her writing and it looked like "chicken something". At that time she did ask what types of cheese my son and daughter wanted but did not ask about the wing sauce. Our appetizer came out and she placed the plate on our table said "enjoy" and walked away. Now there were FOUR of us and ONE plate with the appetizers on it. My husband got up and sought out our waitress and asked her for some PLATES. She brought us TWO and asked "is that okay:" Sigh... A few minutes later our food arrived. My husband got a mild sauce with his wings, he likes spicy, but hey who cares our waitress was making money right? My son and daughter got chips instead of french fries. We asked for the fries and finally did get them AFTER the sandwiches had been eaten. The food was very good. My husband loved the wings despite the "mild" sauce and my Turkey Cobb sandwich ( carved roast turkey, sliced apple, lettuce, tomato and a spicy cranberry mayo on a brioche roll) was awesome. When it came time for the bill our waitress again mentioned about how glad she was that we chose the Fitz for lunch because she needed the money. She also said we should come back for Karaoke one night and ask to get seated at her table. Um...no thanks. The new menu at the Fitz is very good, we all enjoyed our food very much. Sadly, the dining experience gets one star. Do not tell us the restaurant has been slow, do not tell us you need to make money and do not get our orders wrong! read more
