Walked in, hostess seated us outside on the deck and nobody came out to wait on us(close to 10 mins) Went back in to hostess and I told her is there a server and she asks where are you seated. A few minutes later a server comes out and says she didn't even know we were out here. Food was pretty good. Had the bang bang shrimp which was solid and wings were big and juicy. The Lock 29 restaurant is located right on the water. It has outdoor seating overlooking the water. The atmosphere is casual up scale pub. We started with the nachos as an appetizer. The nachos were good with plenty of toppings and very fresh. For my meal I had the bourbon bacon cheeseburger with hand cup fries and my wife had a garden salad. The burger was done perfectly and very juicy with lots of flavor. My wife said her salad was also delicious and very fresh. The only disappointment was the fries. They were chewy and not crisp at all. They tasted like they were under a warmer for hours. The fries also were a very small portion size. Loved dinner here, can't recommend enough. We sat outside along the river and it was lovely. We saw ducks, a whole group of little baby ducklings, turtles...that alone would get me in the door! Service and food were thankfully also great. Our server was so sweet and kept apologizing for how long it would take her to return to our table even though I think it was a completely normal amount of time, so I super appreciate how attentive she was. Food was great. We got the hoagie dip which was delicious. I got the Mediterranean bowl with seared tuna and it was tasty, chickpeas especially cooked perfectly. After finally checking out this cute spot on the water we are planning to come again! The food is good, it could be better. The fries are 1000% NOT worth getting. I love fries but these were a no go. Very very dry .... Disappointing. No flavor either. That goes for their regular and truffle fries. The truffle fries were not good at all. Nix the fries. The burger was really good just wish it hadn't been soo leaky. My plate was covered in a pool of juices and oil which was kind of annoying/made it harder to eat. But it was good. My fiance loved his Cuban but again also disliked his fries. The Cuban looked really good and he recommends it. We did get the infamous tuna nachos. They are really yummy - fiance was obsessed. Drinks were good. We just got draft beer nothing fancy. The ambiance was 10/10, seriously such a great spot to hangout on the water. Our server was also amazing! She was so kind and attentive. We came here for lunch and it was overall a very "bleh" experience. I understand we came on a day where there was a big college football game on, however the TVs were SO loud it was impossible to have any kind of conversations with the people at our table. I ordered a Coke, and was immediately put-off by how dirty the glasses appeared. Upon looking at everyone's glasses, they all looked dirty! It was definitely a turn off. I will say, the pretzel bites appetizer was delicious. The pretzels were cooked perfectly and had everything seasoning on them, which was a nice touch. The beer cheese was also very good. For my meal, I had the chicken parm sandwich. It was served on a long roll, which I was excited about. However, the execution of this dish was just bad. First, the chicken was rubbery and not tasty. And the roll was so stuffed with chicken, it made it impossible to take a bite. I had to deconstruct the dish which I didn't love. The menu stated that it came with melted mozzarella, but this sandwich came with a mozzarella stick plopped on top of the chicken? Very weird. The sauce looked like it would have tasted good, but there wasn't enough sauce to speak on it. I found myself picking around this dish because it just wasn't good. The server we had was very kind, which was a saving grace of our experience. Restrooms were nice and clean which is always a good thing. Unfortunately, I don't think we will return to Lock 29. I recently went to lunch with my sisters at this location. It's a really nice place and I wished it had been warmer so we could have sat outside to enjoy our meal. There are tables outside with a great view of the canal, and the Schuylkill River just beyond. But the inside was just as interesting as the outside and the service was very friendly and very informative. We asked our waitress about some of the decorations on the walls inside and she answered our questions with some good stories. We each ordered something different and were very pleased with our food. My salmon burger was delicious and had such a pleasantly unexpected flavor with the addition of the Brussel sprouts. And there was enough left over to enjoy the next day. We would all like to come back again, but this time in the warmer weather so we can enjoy the outdoors as well as a lovely lunch. read more

I arrived a little early before happy hour so I ordered from the main menu. The place was empty. I tried to sit outside but it was too hot. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich with a side salad. It was very good, and reasonably priced. I was waiting for a friend that came 30 minutes later so when she arrived we ordered from HH menu. We ordered margaritas and the hummus plate. The margaritas were eh, way too sweet. But the hummus plate was fresh, crunchy, tasty and plentiful. The warm pita bread with the delicious feta, hummus, cucumbers, kalamatas, red peppers and olive oil was amazing and only cost $6.00. Since my first review (featuring the greatest Roasted Pork Sandwich ever), I've been back 3x, and had a Cuban Sandwich, Nashville Chicken Cheesesteak, and a Chicken Parm Sandwich. All...EXCELLENT. And no downsized 6 inch rolls either. All were stuffed with meat and delish extras...and on a 10 inch roll. So, it's no fluke. Checked this place out for dinner on a Friday night and had a nice night. I would love to come back here again but in the daytime. Aesthetics is very cool with a nice mountain/cabin feel. Could not see the water at night, but I'm sure the view is spectacular if you come during the day. TVs upstairs and downstairs, and live music on Friday night so gets pretty loud. My bf and I shared the bleed green IPA wings for an app and gave it a 6/10. The wings were very chewy and needed to be cooked longer. The flavor was there and had the perfect amount. He ordered the bourbon bacon burger, which gets a 10/10. His burger was so delicious and flavorful! For some reason, I ordered the Mediterranean quinoa salad which wasn't bad. How do you screw up French fries? I don't know, but the cooks at Lock 29 do. Ordered a burger with fries and a beer. Burger was very good, juicy and flavorful but a bit underdone for what I asked for. The fries, though... unseasoned, absolutely flavorless, and while they had the appearance of being cooked, they had no texture or crisp. Thank you to the staff at Lock 29 for accommodating our large group at the last minute! There was plenty of parking and though we sat inside, we loved the outside seating area right on the canal. When we walked in, everyone was pleasant and polite and sat us quickly. Out server/bartender was on point and took excellent care of us! My GF and I enjoy hitting up a good brewery, but not everyone does. So when we were looking for a place to meet her family for a Saturday birthday lunch, we saw Lock 29 as the perfect compromise location since it featured the best brews of Rebel Hill Brewing, while also being a full-service bar & restaurant for those who don't imbibe on good brews. And overall it led to a good experience. There are a couple of caveats that prevent me from giving a perfect five. with the vast selection of beers from Rebel Hill, and some other brews, ciders, and seltzers from some other spots, it would make sense for them to do flights. Our spot-on server agreed and admitted that she's been pushing for it while also being cool to still offer taste pours of those brews that we were curious about. Another flaw was that the sun glaring off the windows did make window seating tough to enjoy for some in our party. But that appears to be another solution they're working on, and it was a couple of negatives to something that overall had a whole lot of positives. Rebel Hill is one of those good breweries that go beyond typical IPAs while also offering up some good hoppy ones. Out of the ones I imbibed on I especially enjoyed the "Yuzu Illusion" rice lager, "If You Know You Know" blackberry kettle sour, and the "Coffee Calmer Than Cream" Sumatra coffee cream ale. For appetizers, we reveled in the fried Brussel sprouts with pecorino cheese and a balsamic glaze, and the house-cut truffle fries with even more pecorino and truffle oil. For my main, I was craving a burger but didn't want any beef, so I was pretty happy to see that you were able to opt for turkey and veggie patties for any of their signature burger with no problem. I opted for the Lock 29 turkey burger with crispy prosciutto, pepper relish, sharp provolone, and pickled long hots on a toasted brioche bun. It was definitely delicious although long hots and pepper relish together was a little too overpowering in the pepper department while also kind of canceling each other out. Depending on the circumstance I might sooner check out the actual Rebel Hill Brewing (https://www.rebelhillbrewing.com/) on my next visit since it's right across the bridge more or less. But for those times you want to do a brewery option while appeasing a crowd that doesn't you really can't find any better in PA. read more

Took over 20 minutes for someone to approach our table, and when he did, no apology for the wait, and he was not friendly. What a great spot to eat on the canal. If you're lucky to get outdoor seating, jump on the opportunity. It's so relaxing, especially with their fantastic food and exciting drinks. It was too cold to eat outside, but we will come back for that. The restaurant is across the street from produce junction and they have their own parking lot. They also offer parking in produce junction lot too. You have to climb stairs to get into the main level of the restaurant, we had a stroller so we have to carry it up, but they do have a lift for wheelchairs. Everyone was super friendly and it was a fun environment to enjoy our food. They have a lot changing specials, which make it exciting to try new things. We enjoyed their drinks, apps, and sides more than their entrees. We ordered a Spanish breakfast sandwich with fried potatoes on the side, fried pickles, deviled eggs, fried green tomato Blt with truffle fries. Ate here for first time last night. The hummus was absolutely delicious as an appetizer. I had ceasar salad with chicken, wife had burger and fries for entre. Salad was good but iceberg lettuce should have been chilled instead of served at room temp. Homemade ceaser dressing came in a side cup. Would have preferred it be pre-tossed in the kitchen before serving, but otherwise very good. Burger was just average. Seating and service were great. Now let's talk cocktails: Wife ordered an Old Fasion ($16). As other reviewers have mentioned in their posts, these type of cocktails at Lock 29 seem overpriced with little value for the money. Any Old Fashion drinker knows this cocktail should be at least four fingers with ice when served in a rocks glass. Wife's cocktail was barely 2 finger high (and that's with ice!). Little disappointing. All in all, we will be coming back as the atmosphere and service (along with the hummus) were well worth it. Just learn from the lesson and have your whiskey or bourbon at home first. read more
