We were on a road trip and randomly picked this place from a google search. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. It's very open with tall ceilings. Lots of TVs on. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and sat at the bar. The bar is pretty big. Our bartender was busy, but still attentive. For food, we got chili, wings with Korean pepper and wild honey bbq sauces, beef tacos, pulled pork with provolone on a long roll and honey siracha chicken grilled cheese on Texas toast. I've been here a few times, but only for drinks. The drink prices are reasonable; I'm always shocked how little my bill is after a few beers. I've had the same bartender the last 3 times and she's always great. Although I've never eaten, I've seen many other dishes being served and the food always looks delicious. Possibly the most well rounded tavern in the area. BH is always a blast to go to. They have cheap drinks and some of the best bar food you can get. The tots are amazing and the food specials always look so good. The crowd is usually vibrant and noisy, with a wide variety of ages. Not the best for watching sports games but it does the trick. Definitely the town watering hole, with Philly fans (as it should be). Yes this is a dive bar, but not the type of bar where out-of-towners regret their decision. Black Horse is clean and non-smoking. Women's bathroom is maintained well and the regulars seem to have enough self-respect to keep it that way. The walls aren't dark green or anything drabby so it's not a depressing place. A few quick facts about this particular location - Huge bar with very little table seating (I'd say there's about 4 small tables). The bar itself is pretty massive, I mean, it takes up most of the building. It's not the best idea to come here on a crowded evening with a group. Due to said lack of table seating, there is no waitstaff. Food and drinks must be ordered directly at the bar. Hopefully there will be room to squeeze into to make an order. The bartenders are pretty much on top of their game when it's busy and can make their rounds at a good speed. Plenty of flat-screen TVs to watch sporting events on. One pool table available for those who could care less about sports. The parking lot is small. Consider walking if appropriate. Rather a big menu for a dive bar. Prices are very respectable and the food is great! I recommend the GYRO. read more

I came here for a friend's birthday last night. She lives in Phoenixville and I trust her opinions when it comes to food and drinks. She raves about Black Horse Tavern and comes here a few times a month. We were not disappointed! They had a drink menu with specialty drinks themed for the upcoming award shows. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had a chicken BLT wrap with no T and it was delicious. My fiance and I split waffle fries and they were nice and crispy. The drinks were good with the right amount of alcohol. We were all impressed at how colorful they looked with all of the different liquors and soda/juices were in them. It's a sports bar with good, cheap food. Although the clientele can look a bit intimidating, everyone is friendly. Don't go with a large group, as there is only seating at the bar. There are a couple of high-tops and one table, but that's it. Draft beer selection is mostly standard stuff but you can get some big-beers from the small cooler, behind the bar. You'll need to ask about availability, as nothing is listed on the menu and it's difficult to see what's actually in the fridge. Ask me a few weeks ago and I would've given this place maybe 2.5-3 stars. But after today I definitely won't be returning. Took advantage of their Saturday happy hour for wings... I ordered 20 and my boyfriend ordered 20. I mean why not, they're half off. Little did we know they have some new policy for happy hour; no food ordered as a happy hour special can be taken out. So when I asked for a box for the 14 wings I didn't eat, I was told no. Then the two bartenders seemed irritated that I had even asked - as if I should've known that already or like that a normal policy. Now, all the happy hours I've been to, all the restaurants I've dined at (from 5 star to dive bar) and all the cities I've been in - I have NEVER heard of such a thing. We pay for food but can't take it home if you don't eat all. Absolutely absurd. If the bartender had explained that when we first sat down, we obviously would've ordered less food. But I guess that would've required too much effort in customer service. I realize you get what you pay for, been to black horse many times when I'm in the mood for cheap drafts and greasy inexpensive food. But after today, it's not worth it. I will not be returning! Sucks for the owners, they lose out on great business because of rude staff and silly "policies". read more

Pleasantly surprised about sums it up. I couldn't believe after all my years of living in Phoenixville, this spot would open back up...and with such cleanliness. I have yet to sample any menu items, but I will say they have a nice spread of beers for not being a craft beer establishment. And the Take Out stuff is also pretty decent too. Stone Victory, Chimay are all wins in my book. I know I'll go back and possibly up the Stars give or take food selection. read more

Well, I have been coming to this Black Horse location quite frequently since the Fairview Village location closed. Usually here on a Sunday afternoon with my wife. We both really like the Black Horse. Good drinks, a surprisingly interesting beer selection that includes a few craft beer. On weekends they have a Happy Hour from 2-4 and the special HH menu offers some great tasting food at some nice prices. The Bartenders are quick to take your order even when the place can get a liitle, well pretty busy actually. Shannon and Beth on Sundays rock! They really make customers feel welcome. Well food is very good but service not good. Sat at table no one came over so husband went up to bar to order food. Ordered off of happy hour menu. Four people, ordered 4 burgers, large fry, 20 wings, fried zucchini. Each had 2 beers. Only time anyone came to table was to bring food. Had to go ask for ketchup,salt,pepper. Go up to bar to pay bill and ask for container for food. Nope it was happy hour food so can't take left over with you. What kind of rule is that? I can see order take out but come on. We ate there!!!!!! My husband said wings were happy hour price? Bartender said yes but she would gladly charge us regular price then we could take them. That is the craziest rule ever. Paid the bill. Local watering hole, but does it right. I have only been here for lunch but food is good for what It is. I think it's one of the most reasonably priced establishments around. This is one of those places where old people with no self-respect are hammered and on the verge of blackout well before you get out of work, and the bartenders know that this is not a problem but rather the purpose of the establishment. I've only ever gone to this place 3 or 4 times, and that was so I could watch some playoff hockey in a bar atmosphere. For not being a sports bar, Black Horse did the job pretty well. All the tv's but 2 or 3 had the game on, the place was comfortably packed, and they had the game going through the speakers. Beer wasn't very expensive at all, and even though the place was packed, I never had to wait more than a minute or so to get another drink. I had the wings a few times and they were actually really damn good. So good even, that when I don't feel like eating there, I've gotten wings to go.
