I went to Five Boroughs Pizza Tavern to see a friend play music. I had the opportunity to try some of the food. Overall, the experience was good, not great. Five Boroughs Pizza Tavern has an incredible steampunk motif. The environment is the perfect modern rustic setting. In terms of environment and ambiance alone, this would be a 5-star place. The staff is incredibly nice and attentive. I sat at the bar with my musician friend's entourage. After perusing the menu and listening to recommendations, my eyes landed on one item: calamari. I am a very big fan of calamari, and I haven't had it for a long time. What could go wrong? Sadly, I'd rate the calamari a 2-stars out of 5. I considered sending it back multiple times and swapping to something like their legendary meatballs, but I genuinely hate sending food back unless it's genuinely bad. The calamari lacked the flavors I typically find at Italian restaurants. While I appreciate the light batter and lighter frying from a health standpoint, a staggering amount of the calamari was soft and soggy. Their presentation style frankly made it so this shouldn't be the case, but it's a natural byproduct of light batter, light frying. Overall, Five Boroughs Pizza Tavern is probably beloved by locals, and for good reason. My friend's group certainly likes the place. I'm sure I'll eventually be back. I'm sure the meatballs will elevate this place for me to 4 stars or maybe even 5. Til then, I walk away deeply disappointed because of the calamari. read more

First time here. Arrived at 6pm on Thursday. They weren't busy, only 4 other tables taken. Waitress came to the table within a couple of minutes, gave us silverware and menus and said she would be right with us. They was the last we saw of her. Then a waiter (who I believe his main job was bartender) came to get our drink orders. He returned fairly quickly with the drinks and left. Several more minutes go by and still no one came to take our food order. We finally flagged the waiter/bartender down and told him we were ready to order. He took our order. The food arrived staggered, 2 sandwiches in 18 minutes, then a calzone in 20 minutes, finally the pizza in 22 minutes. One sandwich was the Hasselhoff tasted very off, like an artificial/chemical taste. Sent it back, didn't order anything to replace it (they took it off the bill). The rest of the food was great, especially the pizza which was The Bronx. I got cannoli to go, the order comes with 2. They were pretty good however whoever filled them didn't do well, there was only filling in about 1 1/2" of each end and the 2" in the middle was just empty shell. I am leaving this place at 4 stars but, some misteps (3.5 stars) tonight did not look isolated. Our waiter was a bit forgetful (but very nice), water refills, drinks (beer and wine) delayed, missed my french fries - maybe kitchen error. But, my fries did not arrive until I finished my meatball sandwich. Also, we saw at least 4 orders including a to go order go back to the kitchen for change / correction. They were not busy so not I am not sure why so many errors. The food is still tasty and hot. I had the Meatball sub with marinara, mozzarella and she had the Hasselhoff with shaved ribeye, mozzarella, sherry au jus with chips. We got the cheesecake to go. Went here for dinner with family one night and we had a great time! The outdoor area is beautiful. We started with the diavolo peppers which are absolutely delicious. We also tried the Big Apple, Brooklyn, and Queens pizzas. All three were great! The only downside menu-wise is the limited selection for beer. I will note, the service was pretty slow, though. The waitress kept coming to our table apologizing for the wait and saying she'd check on the food. They did have music bingo going on that nights, so may have just been a busier night for them. I'd still go back for another try or order in since the food really is very good. read more

This is one of those reviews that's hard to write. There was a lot of good, but, unfortunately, some bad. The good: the infrastructure is excellent. Cool place indoors and out. Really nice outdoor space. Service was good. Salad was super fresh. Garlic knots were nice. Location is convenient. The bad: menu lacks personality. The pizza is just bad. Suuuuper doughy. Cheese quality is eh. You'll see from the pic that its underdone. Firing it longer would heave helped but not solved the problem. If they start to deliver ny pies with a crispy thin crust, I'll be back. They need to start over with the pizza. I can't stress this enough. Overall- I'll be interested in looking at it when it's for sale. No way they're keeping their head above water with that product. Space is stellar. read more

First visit this evening. Interior decor is industrial, yet warm; a very comfortable space with an intimate, locals hangout feel. There is also outside seating and this time of year they have overhead heaters and an outdoor fireplace. So we wanted to try their New York style pizza and it did not disappoint! We got the Brooklyn pizza, which contains my favorite toppings combo: pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onion. The crust was crisp and buttery and ingredients were top shelf which produced a fantastic pizza! We also each had a small salad and they were fresh and done right. They have a full bar with about a half dozen drafts and a decent wine list. They also have a good selection of appetizers, pasta offerings, and sandwiches. Service was superb - thank you Lindsey! We came in after 8pm on Monday night. Our friend Joe had recommended the appetizer. It was very good. I am from Brooklyn so I was a little disappointed in the pizza. We asked for well done extra sauce. That is not what we got. A thin crust messy gloppy bunch of toppings that slid off the dough. I was looking for a pizza place in the area and stumbled upon this Five Boroughs Pizza Tavern! Just came back from hiking so I was craving pizzaaa. The perfect food to satisfied your hunger cravings. Upon entering the waiters were really nice. Our waiter specifically, was really nice and helpful. He was patient as we looked through the menu. The portions are pretty good for the price. We got the garlic knots and a medium pizza. At the time we came there which was about 7 pm, the garlic knots is part of their appetizer menu and they were half off, good deal! The waiter was nice to let us split the toppings on the pizza in half. I had got pepperoni and spinach- because you never can have enough veggies in your life. The place had an ample amount of seating. Would come again due to the politeness from the staff and the garlic knots were quite delicious! Medium pepperoni pizza with spinach- The crust was good, had a "New York style crust" which is the crust is thin but puffy on the outer corners. I prefer thin crust so it was good. This place has become our home away from home since we moved out to Cumming. The food is amazing! The staff is fantastic! The people we've met there welcomed us with open arms and have become family. Not bad but I've definitely had better pizza around Atlanta. My first and main problem was ordering online. Five Boroughs uses a third party site which gave an hour long wait time. 30 minutes in, I tried calling the restaurant a couple of times to get an update but kept getting the dead phone line beeps, so I decided to just go in and just wait. I only live about 8 minutes in so I got there at around the 45 minute mark just to see that the pizza had been sitting there for who knows how long and by the time I got home, it was on the colder side and had to be reheated. I ordered a standard medium sized Manhattan which included feta cheese, sausage, basil, and onion for $16. I thought the toppings, sauce, and the crust were amazing, but was disappointed that there wasn't the gooey and beautiful cheese drip I was hoping for even after reheating it. Unfortunately I am not a crust and sauce person and the cheese is always my favorite part of pizza, so the things they did well were overshadowed by what wasn't done well. In the future, I'd like to try it again and come in after the pandemic is over as I think the quality will probably be much better when it's fresh out of the oven (and so I can overload it with parm in case there isn't enough cheese again). read more

Welcomed quickly at the front door. The wait staff was very attentive to my order and requests in mid-afternoon with a new waiter in training. The restaurant was very clean, and the atmosphere was appealing. I ordered the Brooklyn Pizza. It was a really good pizza. The sausage was just the right amount of spice. The cheese stretched off the pizza with each bite. I really enjoyed the food. The smallest pie they offered was 12 inches of which I was only able to complete half. The other half, my wife enjoyed it later that evening. I would definitely order from Five Boroughs again. Today was our second visit although neither of us remembered much other than we sat outside the first time. Today wasn't much different . Unimpressive food- the best item was ranch dressing. Marinara was watery and had almost no taste. Calzones limited to 2 toppings or "they explode"- whatever, complete nonsense and the bottom was borderline burnt on both. I am assuming the waitress was new and not well trained yet We asked twice what ciders they had and looking a bit confused pointed to the appetizers on the menu. Needless to say I ended up with a Coke. I drank the coke while waiting for our food and the same waitress took the empty glass but did not offer a refill or water. When asked what the Scooter sauce was she was not sure and had to go ask. We were told BBQ ranch- it was actually buffalo. Our food arrived, still no replacement beverage. When I asked for water it took longer than expected and was given to the other diner. It wasn't the worst meal I have ever had but probably won't go for a 3rd try. read more

Great Tasting Pizza ruined by predatory business practices. I went to eat at this local pizza restaurant last Sunday with my wife and mother in-law. This is the second time my wife and I have had the pies and we wanted to share the experience with her mom. The Pizza took a little longer then we expected considering we were the first customers of the day. But we got the food and it tasted wonderful. The problem came up when we were checking out. The poor waitress told us that there was going to be a surcharge for using a credit card to pay. She apologized for it a couple times and told us it was a decision by her management. I am assuming she's lost tips because of this new policy. I feel like this was completely predatory. There are no signs, no warning, no nothing indicating that a surcharge would be accessed based on credit card payments. Not to mention. The vast majority of people that eat out, more then likely use credit cards and accessing these fees. Why should we have to pay a basic operating expense for doing business? If it was hurting your P&L. Why not raise the cost of food slightly to offset the expense? As a result. Regardless of the quality of food. I won't be eating here again. I don't appreciate surprise policies or the predicament you've put your servers in. Pizza joints are a dime a dozen. I hope the cost is worth losing your customers. read more

As a native New Yorker, I'll usually go to a place reminiscent of home, so no surprise that I would go to a place called the Five Boroughs. I looked at the menu and they had 1 specialty pizza named after each borough. My family ended up getting the Bronx and the Staten Island.l, as well as a Magherita. I got a calzone. This was the first place where I received a calzone that was a reasonable size and it tasted like I remember them tasting back home. Thr family enjoyed their respective pizzas and even had enough to take back home for lunch the next day. I suggest you get a medium pizza to share for 2. We got one pizza per person and it was too much for us and ended up being pricey. Maybe get one borough per visit. But we'll be back read more
