Cute little shop in L&L market. I've been here several times, always Sunday after church around 10am. Not too busy and a great place to bring kids because there is plenty of space. There is a coffee shop next door which is a plus. There is parking outside that's free for 3 hours. The 5 daughters is always clean and the people are friendly. For starters the address on here is wrong, its not 3814 its 3820 and its inside the big brick building. This isnt a regualr donut shop. They sell cronuts and they had a bunch of gluten free donuts if your into that. I got the vanilla cronut and the vietnamese coffee. Both were tasty but they should change the name of "Vietnamese coffee". Vietnamese coffee is very very strong/bold coffee because they brew coffee with coffee. I love bacon plus sweet on anything and everything but this one tasted like there was bacon grease piped throughout the whole thing. It was as if it was dropped in a vat of it and I was eating spoonfuls of grease instead of frosting. My husband said the same thing. I don't know how I've gone this long without trying Five Daughter's Bakery. It is an icon on Twelve South for tourists but even as a local I will say it deserves the hype. In addition to Twelve South there are a few other locations around Nashville. I went to the one inside L&L Market today since it is a bit more parking friendly. The donuts are expensive (about $5 a piece) but they are also huge. They have mini donuts too but only in some flavors. They also make paleo donuts, yeast donuts and other baked goods like cookies and orange rolls. I tried the blueberry lemon, purist and brownie batter. The blueberry lemon was probably my favorite. It was dense but also light and fluffy and just the right combo of sweet and sour. The purist was a classic that came in a close second. I didn't love the brownie batter as much as I thought I would but it was still good. It was filled with chocolate which is always a plus! Expectations had been set so high that I flew in to Nashville airport and, rather than checking in at the hotel first, I went straight to Five Daughters. I had been told these were the best donuts in Nashville and some of the best anywhere. I have to agree. I didn't realize they were actually what some other places call "cronuts", halfway between a croissant and a donut. Five Daughters calls them hundred layer donuts. But, as you can see in the pictures, they are indeed full of delicious layers. This makes them light, and also gives the option to fill some of the layers with cream, which they do on some of their versions. One nice touch is that they have mini versions of most of their flavors so you can try more than one. The pricing doesn't quite work out though since the minis are $3 and the big ones which are at least 3x the mass, are $4.50. I got the mini purist and a regular maple glaze. Both were absolutely delicious. Key thing to know, the maple glaze has its central layers filled with vanilla buttercream. Delicious, but also very different from the purist which has no filling.
