When in Nashville...ya gotta check out a bakery. This was my choice for our most recent visit! We rolled up after checking out of our hotel on a Friday morning. They were pretty busy and unfortunately there was nowhere convenient to park. Hubs let me out of the car and said he'd come back for me. I stepped into a comfortably sized, modern, open bakery/restaurant. You order at the counter. They have several cases displaying both refrigerated and non-refrigerated items. They also have a small selection of cute gifts/stocking stuffer or house warming type items. The line moved a little slowly but it was for a good reason; the employees took time to genuinely interact with each customer. They even engaged a little boy with his grandma in front of me in a whole conversation about his new school and even got him a special sticker. It was sweet, though the Scrooge-y side of me was in a bit of a hurry. You can also order a whole meal (mostly breakfast and cafe style lunch) here if you're so inclined, but we had other plans for lunch and so I just wanted pastries to take home. I ordered a peanut butter cookie, an almond croissant, a brown sugar matcha madeleine, and a chocolate cardamom madeleine. They pulled my pastry box together quickly and I was on my way to meet hubs in the car. The highlight of the items was the almond croissant. The almonds were toasty and crunchy and the croissant had gorgeous flaky layers and a gooey almond center. The madeleines were enjoyable though they were both a little heavy on the matcha and cardamom respectively for my tastes (esp the cardamom); that said, the texture was picture perfect, with crisp edges and fluffy, cakey insides. The peanut butter cookie was a little crumbly but pretty good too. Idk if anything just completely blew me away (the croissant got close) but everything was very solid and certainly enjoyable. If you're a pastry connoisseur, definitely add this place to your list to check out! Glad I was able to try them. read more

Wow! Stocked up here before heading into the Smokies. Their sandwich bread is perfect. Really, everything was good but the bread made excellent toast and sandwiches, and it stayed good for days. The pizza dough was great! We used it a couple days later in a Airbnb house with casserole dishes and still it was delicious! The sandwiches were all delicious. I've been to Dozen many many times over the years. Very grateful for their new-ish location with a lot more space! They have about 20 parking spots right around the building, it is normally full but I've always found a spot. I think there is additional parking in an adjacent lot, but I'm often with my kids or just running in super fast so I've never used it. Sometimes it is very busy and others not so much, I think peak times are normal eating hours & weekends. I will say the line typically moves slowly. The employees are nice, friendly and helpful. The chocolate chip pecan cookie might be the best in nashville, totally underrated and is only $2.50. The coffee is great. The food is very good and so reasonably priced, I love the chicken salad sandwich. The outdoor area is great and I appreciate the children's play items. My kids will typically play for a bit and/or they have some markers and coloring sheets. Great & easy place to come as a family. Overall just a super solid spot for coffee and/or food. I have been to Dozen Bakery a dozen times by now, even before it relocated. This bakery has an excellent selection of baked goods and pastries that sell like hotcakes. I love the newer location, as the space is larger and there is ample parking. The bakery can get very busy, so I always plan to come early. I usually drop in to quickly pick up their sourdough bread, which I love for how fresh and high-quality it is! I have tried their regular sourdough loaf, which is really good, but my current favorite is their olive & herb sourdough. I usually overlook their pastry section, but the last time I visited, I tried the coffee crumble cake. It was incredibly soft, buttery, and rich. I devoured it in no time. read more

Dozen is a great brunch option if you are in the Berry Hill neighborhood! I stopped in with my BF right before it got very busy. We ordered at the counter and grabbed a number. The space is large and a big industrial with a large patio half covered. We tried an apricot scone with our oat milk lattes, and they both were delicious and the lattes came out quickly. The scone was flavorful and I would definitely try more of those! We ordered the quiche of the day which was mushroom and potato, and a side pasta salad with fresh kale and enjoyed both of those. The focaccia breakfast sandwich was very photogenic and the bread was great but it came with a thick roasted red pepper pesto that was unfortunately really overpowering and a bit messy. It was like it should have worked but just didn't for some reason. The homemade hot sauce was absolutely worth it and so good (and I am a very picky with my hot sauce!) Dozen is a well-known Nashville staple that has a great reputation, just get the focaccia without the pesto if you want to try it! read more

I was in Nashville for a wedding and my Uber driver told me I had to stop by Dozen Bakery! I was leaving to drive back to Ohio but wanted a small breakfast that would tide me over for the journey and also wanted to support a local business. I love bakeries and baked goods and Dozen Bakery was easy to get to and had parking, so the decision was an easy one about stopping in. I'm so glad I got the reccomendation! I love sweet stuff for breakfast and 99.99% of the time, I need breakfast food to start my day, even if I have an early lunch planned. My first meal has to have a breakfast item. However, while I did grab some pastries to enjoy and bring home to my family, the Salami Sandwich caught my eye and I knew it would be delicious. I was blown away about the quality and taste and that it got me to crave a lunch sandwich for breakfast! I brought home a cherry orange galette and poppyseed rugelach for my family and they were incredible! The flavors were unique. The service was quick. I had to wait in line maybe 10 minutes at most. Honestly, The dozen bakery is the best bakery in town! I went here with my grandma and my mom and we got a baguette and a croissant and a date bar. and they were all so good and so perfectly cooked! Situated in a small complex/shared building alongside Cyanide Cider, this Dozen Bakery is bright, welcoming, charming, cute...legit all the things! And even has a large patio in addition to a sprawling dining room! Oh, and they have counter seating with windows into the kitchen, so you get a front row seat to all the goods being made! I have popped by Dozen a handful of times and each visit is equally as great. The staff, including the owners, are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. While I usually stop by for a cold brew and baked good, they have a fairly expansive menu of all things breakfast and lunch, and even dessert. My go-to is always a cold brew with a few of their house made syrups alongside anything focaccia based...as the bread is sooooo good! Overall, Dozen Bakery is a great spot with true neighborhood coffee shop/bakery vibes. Parking was a bit tough, but some patience and circling paid off. There are spots in front and along the patio side. It's just a very popular spot so it fills quickly. It was a Saturday morning so a line to order was to be expected. The employees were doing their best to move through the line. There was a bit of a wait for food and drink, but I expected that when I saw how busy they were. It really wasn't a big deal because they have a little playhouse on the patio for kids! It's in a corner of the patio, far from the parking lot. I absolutely love that they have this for kids. The weekend brunch menu made it hard to choose just one item. It is unique and better than a typical brunch menu. The pricing was very reasonable for food and pastries. My Iced Orange Cuban was very good. They use Crema coffee which is always delicious. I liked the chocolate shavings on top to enhance the flavor. My daughter enjoyed her Chocolate Milk. We went with the option to have them add mocha to milk, but they have milk boxes too. The Cucumber Gazpacho was so wonderfully refreshing on a hot day. The flavors in this worked so well. The Summer Squash Sandwich had an interesting variety of ingredients that were flavorful. It had creamy burrata, grilled zucchini and squash, Calabrian chili vinaigrette, fried almonds, tomato almond pesto, and basil. I dream of enjoying this again! The focaccia was a good choice for this sandwich. A side of bacon wasn't very flavorful. We'd pass on that next time. The pastries and baked goods we had were excellent. The Chocolate Croissant was perfectly buttery and flaky. The Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie was one of the best cookies I've ever had. The flavor was excellent. The Peanut Butter Cookie was also great. The lemon lavender pie is my absolute favorite. I am so glad they recently opened in South Nashville. We paid a visit to this coffee house one afternoon, in hopes of a restorative cup following luncheon. Having formerly sampled their baked goods and baguette, we approached with some expectation, for those had proved most agreeable. Upon our arrival, Darcy and I were informed that the supply of pastries was nearly exhausted: a circumstance I bore with easy composure, as we intended only for coffee. Yet thereafter, I regret to say, the experience fell somewhat short. My cappuccino was deficient in froth and served with less warmth than one might wish, rendering it rather uninspiring. The interior, though neat, is so spare and restrained in its decoration as to verge upon the austere, and lacks that ease and comfort which invite one to linger. It is not, I think, among the more hospitable establishments we have encountered in Nashville. Though I would not hesitate to return for their baked offerings, I cannot suppose it would become a favored place for repose or refreshment. read more

BAKERS DOZEN ANYONE? One of our favorite meals of the trip was also our last meal in Nasheville for a simple brunch/lunch at Dozen Bakery. There was quite a line but we scored a seat outside after ordering at the register. The chocolate croissant was a basic but super tasty choice - perfect flakey and good ratio of chocolate to croissant. We also tried the small split baguette with avocado & eggs (which was also basic) but that baguette made me SO MAD because it's hard to find a GOOD baguette in Atlanta... so our only complaint is that we can't get a baguette like this at home. We also got a salad & half sandwich combo - for the salami sandwich. The combination of mustard shallot butter and salami on that baguette... *chef's kiss*. We ended the meal with a snickerdoodle cookie and it was the perfect way to end our Nashville trip. We will definitely be back the next time we're in town! read more

The croissants are exquisite, very close to a French experience as far as the flakiness and tenderness of the croissants. There's a long line but it goes quick and worth it! If you're eating there and taking some home do it in one go. It's busy, but in an industrial area so there's plenty of free parking. Coffee drinks are excellent. OK so the baked goods usually top notch from what I remember (even just a simple croissant or baguette), but I haven't been able to enjoy in a few years because now I have food sensitivities and cannot eat most of the menu. I do wish they'd have a a gluten free, nut free, dairy free option! It's doable.. I bake this way all the time. I usually come here for the matcha, it's very flavorful and delicate. I love that the new space has SO much more seating and a large patio. They had a kid play area for a bit that was fabulous. I do hope that makes a return as an employee said it might. Suggestion: the outdoor area really could use jazzing up. It's quite plain and as of now you're just sitting in a parking lot with no shade. Some more potted plants, umbrellas for tables, and a mural would do wonders. The hours are all over the place in this post-COVID Nashville coffee world. I don't get why so many shops have done this, and Dozen has adjusted their hours many times like others in the area. I thought their afternoon/early evening cocktail time was great. But so very good, I think the best I have ever had. The servers are kind and friendly and accommodating. This was my third visit after a friend introduced me. I used to be local but moved. When we missed our turn and made our way back to the tucked-in bakery that is Dozen we saw a zillion cars! Literally. Ok-probably more like a Dozen, maybe even 2. Though parking was full in front, the neighboring Cyanide Cider had posted signs saying "No Dozen Parking after 11:00" Nothing says 'busy place' like competition for parking. Just ask Hank's in Franklin. Ok, so the bright, white, clean and spacious space may have been a part supply store in a former life but it's been pleasantly transformed into a delightful spot. We easily were the oldest there (Gen-whatever reigns there), and that's ok. They let us stay. Now for the menu. Fresh choices-lots of different croissants. I had a chocolate and the flavor was good but our recent trip to Italy has pretty much ruined me for croissants here in the states. I still ate it. All of it! I ordered the daily tartine (Bell Pepper) that blew me away. The foundation (their bread of course) was fabulous and topped with every colorful, tasty, crunchy yumminess on a base of hummus. Spicy and good. With fried peanuts for more crunch. Not my typical 30 grams of protein breakfast, but I'll get back on that tomorrow! Hubs had an egg sandwich he liked (except for the pesto, which I would have loved). I had a seasonal latte with pistachio and other flavors. It was yummy. Hubs proclaimed his dry cap solid. Not his favorite ever, but good. It's a drive for us so we may not be regulars but it would be worth the drive if we tried. Always the OG for baked goods! I first came for the sourdough loaf and stayed for the goodies! Loved how many pantry goods they had and their unique flavors of bread! I'm not huge on sweets so I mainly purchase loaves. My favorite being their umami sourdough. They took it off the menu and brought it back for a holiday recently and it was different from before but still delicious! Must have the salami sandwich! Everyone is always so friendly! I have been here several times over the last few weeks, and I will continue to come back as often as I can because this food is truly incredible! The first time I came, I had the egg in a hole. The bread was so perfectly roster and the egg cooked just right. It was sprinkled with some salt and had lots of garlic on it that made for the perfect combination. The accompanying potatoes were delicious too. I have also add the egg sandwich which was fresh and tasty, but I found it very small portion size wise. My favorite so far though is the focaccia egg sandwich. The focaccia has black sesame seed and is drizzled with honey to give it just the right amount of sweetness that just makes your tastebuds go wow when paired with the fluffy egg and arugula. Truly such an incredible dish. This place is always pretty busy but the staff is always patient and nice and line moves quickly.
