My husband and I hate furniture buying, but shopping at Five Elements is anything but trauma-inducing. Five Elements (and their sister store Solid) made it *almost* fun. They have a great selection of high-quality furniture that is well-designed and very reasonably priced. The salespeople are friendly and helpful, without being pushy. The only thing that could have been better is if they had served free wine while you're browsing...but given our history of spilling and sofas, it's probably for the best that they don't. We ended up purchasing a sleeper sofa and an armchair from them. I'll try to write an update once they're delivered. But so far our experience with Five Elements has been great! read more

Modern aesthetic, functional, reasonably priced...? I live in a tiny place right now. Small spaces need smart solutions. I am always in search of handsome, miniature furniture that operates like one of those kid's Transformer toys. I need cars that can take the shape of warriors with just the bend of a couple fenders and the push of a secret button. When I find a handsome, modern couch that can - voila! - magically open up to be a comfortable, good looking modern bed for 2, I jump on it. Jonathan is a really picky buyer and has a good eye for modern furniture that he can sell at a reasonable price. I stopped in here today to buy tickets to the AIA Homes Tour and I already have my tape measurer out to see if that new Warrior-Car is a good fit. I was impressed with the following: 1. a low couch table that can magically become a kitchen table, double in size and seat six people. 2. chairs that are both sleek and comfortable. 3. a crisp, modern, faux leather, camel-colored couch that becomes a comfortable sleeper. 4. another low table for in front of a couch that opens up for storage or a full-blown magical bar. 5. a low modern queen-sized bed frame with smart storage in half of it. I will be back. I need my wall to fold out into my side yard and then I need my roof to push back to reveal a second floor with a view of downtown... Transformer style. read more

After I first visited Five Elements last week, I bought nothing but dreamed about the furniture. That's weird, right? We have yet to move into our new house, so we are taking some time to "sell off all that old trash," and shop around for each perfect piece. I think I see a future love affair between us and Five Elements. I may romance one of the groovy modern sofas to come home with me after. Maybe she'll convert into a sleeper and we can take it upstairs! Perhaps we will indulge ourselves in a killer coffee table that swings open to become a double-stacked service piece. I want to publicly express my appreciation for the recent service I received from Five Elements. Back story: I bought a beautiful sofa from Five Elements a few years ago. Recently (and to my utter dismay), I spilled red wine on a large portion of the chaise. After failing miserably to improve its appearance, I contacted the store in a desperate attempt to find some remedy. After leaving a message with the owner, I received a call from Ramon who provided me with a number of options to remove the stain. Most of all, he reassured me that hope was not lost and that he was confident that stain's appearance could be dramatically improved. After visiting a few area furniture stores in search of the perfect new sofa, we found it at Five Elements. With our growing family and more spacious living room in the new house, we decided a sectional would be ideal so we can all spread out comfortably. I wasn't willing to settle for an ugly hunk of furniture either. The service was impeccable and we got exactly what we wanted. The sofa we picked was a bit too low so they worked with us to add legs, floating legs, so it wouldn't detract from the style. They were even able to find spare legs and added them at no cost. Amazing! And, when they weren't quite perfect, they came out quickly to fix it. Everyone here really knows what they're doing. It's been a wonderful 7 months with our new sectional. Still looks new and we use it daily. Plus, it's made in North Carolina, which seems to be pretty up in the furniture biz. We don't need anymore sofas but if we did, I'd definitely go back to Five Elements. read more

If you're like me, it's the first time buying grown-up, non-IKEA furniture. It took me months to decide on my couch, and I then had second thoughts once I received it. I came back and Jonathan listened to what more I was looking for, helped me look at other options, and even offered to let me keep my couch should I wait months to exchange it for a different custom one. The true measure of a company, their owners and staff (separates the average from the best) is known when a mistake is made and how they will address it. Well this test came when a very expensive piece of furniture was delivered damaged. I noted it to the delivery team and within 5 minutes of them leaving my home Jonathan Fox (owner) called me stating that he would take care of it and that they stand behind their name and quality control. Done, John and Lucy were all over it, followed up every few weeks notifying us of the progress (ordered from Italy) and when it arrived in the US his team installed the new top and John and Lucy followed up with a call to assure our satisfaction! I had been looking for sofas to fit my smaller loft for some time and could never seem to find the perfect piece. It was either the size, the style, or the price. After yet another long day of shuttling between furniture stores, I was driving past Five Elements as they were closing and decided to poke my head in. And I glad I did! Jonathon was patient and attentive, listening to what I wanted, asking me to describe my space and then going through a catalog with me to help ascertain the style I wanted. When everything was said and done, he gave me a fantastic price on one of his floor models that fit the bill exactly. He even offered to replace the legs with a different color to match my other decor. A few weeks later, the sofa looks and sits perfect and I couldn't be happier. Stopped in because they had a sample of an EQ3 bed I had my eye on. Walked out with an order for a new bed and a new lounge chair. They have a lot of unique pieces I was oohing and ahhing over. Too bad I don't need more furniture or I would have dropped more money here! TBH, some of the prices look steep if you're used to furniture shopping at ikea. But the pieces are comfortable and feel solidly constructed. They will last lifetimes longer than ikea furniture. read more

We just moved to Austin a few weeks back and needed to get practically all new furniture. We happened to walk into Five Elements as it was not too far from our new place and WOW... amazing furniture and John was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable with his products and furniture and patient with our decision making process. W ended up purchasing a beautiful sofa and two bar stools. While we waited for our sofa to be custom made, he offered us a loaner coach which was extremely helpful - never had service such as this before! Wow -- I love the stuff this store has. However, we walked in there this afternoon, and felt very unwelcome. There were 3 employees sitting behind the counter, just staring. We walked around for a while, looking at various items, and not one of them stood up and greeted us, or offered to help. We walked out without a goodbye. I've been buying from this showroom for the past 3 years and majority of my home is furnished by 5E. Their materials are top notch, I have active children in an open floor plan and they are all over the furniture yet the sturdiness of the furniture holds true. Johnathan and Ramon (rah-mone) are very professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. We had a couple small items that needed to be looked at after delivery, and these guys went out of the way to make it right. Scratch resistant glass tables, modern look, and most importantly comfort. You learn far more about a business when something goes wrong than you ever do when everything goes right. We ordered a new sofa that was due in just before we were scheduled to move across the country. We knew up front that the schedule was tight, but Jonathan offered to have it shipped directly to our new home if it wasn't going to arrive in time. The factory was slightly delayed, so we ended up taking him up on his offer. Unfortunately, when the sofa arrived, there was some damage to a leg, which was obviously frustrating. Jonathan immediately found a good local company that could take care of the repair, and he arranged for them to pick it up, install a new replacement leg from the factory, and return it the next day. It was the kind of situation that could have gone very sour because of compounding problems, but Jonathan's service after the sale earned our respect. He and the rest of the Five Elements staff really came through for us, and we appreciate it. We love the sofa, too! read more

High quality comfy furniture that's affordable---- whattttt????? We checked out a bunch of furniture stores, from the ritzy downtown stores where a small sofa "starts at only $8999" to Walmart with cheaper furniture but really bad quality, before finding this place. We were looking for a sofa, and the staff was very good at helping us choose one. They asked us all sorts of questions about how the size we wanted, size of the room, color schemes, etc. In addition to that, they were patient answering our questions, willing to work with us on different things such as putting in an order for a sofa and willing to change the color (at a certain point of course) if we wanted to. You can even check out some of the fabric to take home and make sure it fits in the color scheme. read more

Update 9 months into our couch: we still love it! The fabric has held up well, the cushions are still fluffy, and the cat hasn't managed to leave any indelible scratch marks (though we do have to still deal with cat fur). Our only quibble is that some of the tufting buttons have come loose. I'm pretty sure I could put them back on but haven't bothered to do so. The couch is still comfy, and still looks good enough to get compliments! read more

They were extremely knowledgeable and provided very good input specific to my particular living situation. I explained to them what I needed from a couch, and they were able to provide some very good input that ultimately helped make my decision to purchase the couch today, my first time in the store. I went into this place with my husband last weekend. They have beautiful furniture but unfortunately, I was looking for something super specific. I was blown away by how friendly the staff was. I showed the lady a picture of what I was looking for, although she didn't have anything similar, she proceeded to recommend other stores that would be more fitting. I can't recommend this place enough. The furniture is absolutely gorgeous, Jonathan has a great eye for beautiful furniture pieces. My husband and I couldn't be happier with our bedroom set, couch, lamps, end tables and the dining table we purchased there. We intend to outfit the rest of our home from here too.
