Happy hour menu used to have great deals; now rather than discounted items on their full menu, there are now mostly separate items only found on the happy hour menu (most of them are just average). Called to make reservations after calling 10 other places and the host was very kind and able to get us in within the next 15 minutes. There were 4 of us on a work trip and we were hungry!! Our waiter was very kind in recommending dishes since it was our first time here. The chicken was great, but had almost a bit too much salt and I personally would have added more paprika, but overall great. The potato's and greens definitely made up for it. OMG!!!! Michelin worthy tasty food! Every dish was seasoned to perfection and masterfully presented. Fillet mignon tataki had just the right hint of heat mixed vinegar and beef was tender rare and perfectly seared. Mushroom polenta was soft on inside and crispy on outside with generous amounts of creamy flavorful sauce. My husband said it was the best pork belly he ever had - and he loves pork belly, we order it at almost every place we go to. It was crispy and juicy served with over easy egg, avocado, and verte salsa sauce. Fresh house made butternut squash ravioli was my son's favorite; it was served with sautéed Chantelle mushrooms. Even the bread was great - soft and chewy - with airy whipped butter; so worth cheating on gluten diet for. My drink was also done right. All in all a wonderful dining experience! Trendy restaurant where we were able get a reservation easily while I was visiting my family in Eureka. They had Happy Hour until 6 on a Friday night, which was a pleasant surprise. I had the duck fat fries and the house Chardonnay for happy hour. I think the sauces that came with the fries may have been better than the fries. Usually duck fat fries have much more flavor. I ordered the Cold Prawn Panzanella for dinner as entrees were actually rather expensive. I don't know why, but I thought the salad would be entree size, no, it's definitely meant to have in conjunction with an entree. The salad was actually rather blah, even with the fresh cracked pepper. The lemon vinaigrette was mostly bland olive oil. The salad felt oily and the bread was soaked in the vinaigrette. We've been to Five Eleven 3-4 times in the last couple of years and it has never disappointed. The first time was just a drop in without reservations, they accommodated us without question. I believe I had a steak, I remember it being very good. My wife had the fried chicken. She said it was so delicious she won't try anything else. I've had different entrees every time and have never been disappointed. The elk steak I had last time was wonderful. Their mix drinks are perfect. Last time I tried the Paloma. I don't drink a lot of tequila but this was very good. The micro-brew selection is top notch. The service has always been perfect. Attentive but not pushy. You're able to relax and enjoy the meal and the ambience. Five Eleven has become a top 2-3 restaurant for our family. We look forward to future visits. read more

We went back in for happy hour a second time and everything was excellent again. The fried chicken slider are consistently good and we tried the pizza this time - good crust and sauce. I have to give this place a gigantic shoutout. I had a surprise party or my partner planned in Arcata for a whole week. At the last minute, the restaurant we had a reservation at cancelled due to an unfortunate accident. I called Five Eleven two hours before the party requesting a same-night reservation for a party of TWENTY (!!!) and they quickly made it happen. Not only were the servers patient, attentive, and speedy with their service, the kitchen staff also did a phenomenal job with the food. Not one person in the whole party was disappointed. There were no mistakes in the delivery (which would have been totally understandable, we were all moving around a lot), the food was absolutely delicious. Everything absolutely slapped. Have to give Five Eleven major props for accommodating us and for making the birthday girl feel special. Would recommend over and over again. read more

This is my second review of Five Eleven. I first reviewed it a couple of years ago, and raved about it. If it were still the same restaurant, I'd still be raving, but sadly, it's really taken a nose dive. We come to Eureka once a year, on our way between our home and my husband's mother's home in Lincoln City, OR, and until today, Five Eleven has been a highlight of our trip. Tonight, however, was a different story. We were a bit concerned to see they'd taken some of our favorites off the menu, but there were still a few items that fit within our dietary needs (and that sounded good), and we've had wonderful meals here in the past, so we decided to take things on faith. To be honest, we didn't have a lot of choice...Eureka is short on good restaurants, and even shorter on restaurants that can cater to vegetarians. My husband and I had the artichoke and herb ravioli with roasted red pepper cream, parmesan, fried artichokes, and basil oil. Our non-vegetarian daughter had the 511 burger with truffle fries. I also ordered a Hendrick's martini, very dry. Well, let's start with the martini. It wasn't even close to being dry. In fact, I think the bartender used half a bottle of vermouth. But the real disappointment was the ravioli. It was so unbelievably bland I could have gotten better value from a can of Chef Boyardee. Each ravioli was over-stuffed with a completely unseasoned glob of cheese. The sauce surrounding the ravioli was pink, but that's the only indication that it had any relationship to roasted red pepper. It tasted, frankly, like tomato soup. And the artichokes were really sad. I love fried artichokes, and have eaten them in some of the best restaurants on the California central coast, and these didn't even come close to measuring up. Throwing artichoke hearts in some oil and heating them a bit does not a fried artichoke make. Where was the seasoning? Where was the crispness? I ate two ravioli, gave one to my daughter (who was equally underwhelmed) and finally gave up. I also, incidentally, tried a few of the "truffle fries" that came with the daughter's burger. Well, they were French fries, I'll give you that. But I tasted absolutely no black truffle whatsoever. As far as I could tell they were simply lightly battered French fries...not bad, but certainly not "truffle fries." When we left, I asked our server if they had a new chef. She said yes...the current one had been there since February. All I can say is I wish they had the old one back. If I want bland food, I can get it for a lot less money at the Taco Bell down the road. We've loved this place in the past, but if there aren't serious changes made, we won't be back. read more

The service was very good. The food less than mediocre. "Worlds greatest grilled cheese" forgot the cheese:(. Pork chop less than appetizing, dry and tough. I call it like I see it.....Five Eleven is awesome!! I called in an hour before they opened and inquired about a reservation for two. A pleasant experience on the phone and we we arrived on time, our table was set, water poured, completely ready to go. Our server was great, checking on us on a very regular basis. The drinks were strong and well worth the money. We were there during happy hour, so that was an added bonus The food was amazing! The friend chicken sliders were probably the best fried chicken we've ever had....I had surf & turf, which was cooked to perfection. My wife had the Five Eleven burger, cooked perfect and delicious. In fact, we shared our dinners with each other. The price surprised me, for all the food and drinks, we were still under $100. Just took my partner here for his birthday. We had the most excellent experience... food, drinks and service! Scallop caviar benedict was amazing as was the lamb and game hen! When Matthew and I dine out we aren't in it for the meal, specifically. We are there for the entire experience--how our server interacts with us, the ambiance of the restaurant and of course the appearance and flavors of the food. Now when you live more rural like we do here in Humboldt the options are extremely limited. But let me tell you, Restaurant Five Eleven in Eureka has got it nailed. Matthew and I made a point of getting ourselves back to Five Eleven last night for two reasons. One was because it was our anniversary and the other was because they had just reopened after a fire in the kitchen had them closed for a couple months to exact repairs. We were both very excited to once again get our mouths on some food prepared by our favorite Chef locally, Josh Wiley. He did NOT disappoint us! This is how our evening progressed: We arrived an hour early so we could sit at the bar and check out a couple of cocktails before dinner and try out one or two of the Happy Hour specials. Matthew had his standard Grey Goose rocks while I was a little more adventurous and had the Paloma. Being the photo op gal that I am I said to the bartendress, "please make it pretty because I'm gonna take a picture!" She did a fabulous job. A Paloma is Corralejo Blanco tequila, grapefruit juice and lime, on the rocks. I got a pretty garnish, as well. Matthew was excited to try the Soft Shell Crab Taco. He described it as "Big smoky seafoody spicy aioli bites and the onion pickles added just the right amount of acid." I had a bite and it was, well, interesting to me since I'm not a fan of soft shell crab but also worth that one bite. It was a lovely presentation overall. I decided to try the "something spicy, something pickled and something crispy." Except for the crispy, which I ate anyway, it was a great way to not have a ton of calories but still have something to nibble on. Then we were fortunate enough to try the Escolar (a tropical white fish) Crudo with citrus herb vinaigrette, radish, sea beans and purslane. Chef Wiley did a really eye appealing plating of this mouth watering app. Next order of business was time to be seated. What I forgot to mention is that early upon our arrival I let the hostess (might be two seating people) know that we really needed a seat with natural lighting. Hey, you know we are going to take photos and lighting matters! When I went to the podium to let her know we were ready to be seated she apologized that they had just seated someone at the table they were holding for us but they were moving them. I felt bad but also really appreciated that they did that for us. The other diners didn't look like they were imposed upon too much. First thing, Matthew ordered us a bottle of Dry Creek Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel from our server, Carrie. We knew the wine would be delicious, and it was. It also perked the interest in our server. We truly appreciate a server that knows and loves wine and food. The husband (of 12 years this night) ordered the Octopus Carpaccio to start. It was well plated and well enjoyed. I tried the Kale salad which did NOT disappoint. The leftovers found their way into my lunch the next day and still tasted fantastic. It was a well balanced sweet and spicy with kale that did NOT require unlimited chewing. Now for dinner--having had a little chat with the Chef, Matthew decided to have the halibut and I went with the New York. Let me tell you that Chef Wiley's passion and excitement when he told us about how and why he prepared the halibut the way he did convinced Matthew to try it. The menu describes it with bacon, corn, shishito peppers, tomatoes, grilled polenta and sambal citrus butter. We were surprised when it came in a cast iron skillet. The risk with that is the heat of the skillet would continue to cook the fish but wow, it was perfect! It was a large serving as well and in fact was dinner and will be in two lunches as well. The chef convinced me to try the New York. Originally I was going to go with the Filet Mignon but Wagyu New York, he said, would be something I would enjoy. I will say that he even was willing to cut a bit of aging Ribeye for me but I didn't want him to do that so I went with the New York which comes with a roasted bone marrow, wild mushroom bordelaise, duck fat grilled asparagus and broccolini and shoestring frites. It was elegantly plated and as expected perfectly cooked and delicious. In conclusion, we had a wonderful experience at Restaurant Five Eleven. We look forward to our next food adventure with Chef Wiley, whom we know will keep changing up our options. read more

Good wine selection and prices, interesting cocktails though they weren't amazing. Would pass on the oysters and ribs next time, the poke was absolutely fantastic, the halibut also excellent. First visit. No reservations but went early for happy hour. The hostess was very nice, friendly and made a great first impression. We sat on the bar side in a comfortable spacious booth which felt private and enjoyed fresh bread and butter while we sipped our drinks then shared both a happy hour appetizer and small plate. The fish tacos were the bomb and the mushroom polenta was so tasty. Definitely not your typical bar food menu. Liked the variety on the menu and will have to come back for dinner sometime soon. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The southern fried chicken was good but was a little on the bland side and could use a little more seasoning to make it southern style. The classic Caesar was great. Go made gnocchi was good. It held the sauce nicely and the pancetta was a good compliment. They have a nice cocktail menu and we will return to try their pizzas. read more

I got the fried chicken. It was ok. Adele's has practically the same dish for less and it was tastier. I kinda wish I'd gotten the pork thing. But here's something that needs to be said. As some of you know, if not you should know, Root Beer is never served over ice. It's proper to serve it cold, in it's bottle or in a frosty glass. When I was here I ordered a fancy bottled root beer. As the server approached I could see that the bottle was nice and cold. I could also see a glass with ice in her other hand. She reaches over to serve me the bottle and while I'm asking verbally that I'd prefer it in the bottle and not in the glass, she smiles at me nodding yes, while she just pours it into the fucking ice glass. This was one of the best meals my wife and I have had in months. The service was incredible, even in non-COVID-adjusted terms (I forget what our server's name was, but she was an incredibly charming and attentive young woman). The food was tremendous! The halibut especially- one of those dishes you would eat every day if given the chance. If we are ever coming back through Eureka or this neck of the woods, this will be a guaranteed stop.
