They have breakfast all day and big portions. The prices are reasonable. Service is quick and attentive. We had the patty melt, cheeseburger and the rib eye special with baked potatoes We took lots of food home. The next day we had breakfast there with freshly made coffee and also big portions with either country potato or hashbrowns. Plenty of toast and butter. The pancakes were fluffy and tasty. I go so far back, I remember when this was Stanton's red barn. I was in the area, so I decided to stop for breakfast. The place was bright and clean on the inside. It had just a good old-fashioned "country" feel to it. Everybody was friendly and helpful. The menu was large, But I decided to try the Irish skillet. Country potatoes topped with eggs, corned, beef, and green onion. The food comes, and as she puts it down in front of me, the only thing I could say was, " Dear Lord!" That was quite a plate of food. It was beyond delicious. The corned beef was very tender, the potatoes were tender inside and had a nice bit of a crust on the outside, the eggs were also tender, and the green onion provided a nice pop of freshness. To drink, I had the mango iced tea, which was beyond delicious. I had so much food, what I took home, I had enough for two more meals. Some of their items come with toast, this one didn't. First time here since this location was a Niveen's. Significantly redecorated inside and out. Has a very rustic, country comfortable feel to it. The restaurant was very clean and organized. We were greeted and seated immediately by a very pleasant young lady. Our server was helpful in the breakfast selection for one of our group members as they have a significant food allergy. Server was very understanding and made great alteration suggestions. The food came out very quickly and they kept the coffee flowing. The portions for all - including a kid's meal - were very plentiful and all plates looked beautiful. Now for the less flattering part of my review - gotta keep it real though: much of the food was fairly bland and not great. - The breakfast potatoes could have used a lot more flavor; paprika, salt and pepper would have made them much more desirable. My preference is for some crispness to a breakfast potato and these lacked any crispness at all. - The eggs in my Benedict were overcooked - they were hard. Hollandaise sauce was bland and essentially tasteless. I like a good lemony tasting hollandaise, but can be satisfied with just a great tasting sauce, but this, unfortunately, was not. - One of my companions had the Country Benedict which includes biscuits and gravy, but found both of these two components to be inedible. The biscuits were quite over-baked, which could be acceptable if the gravy was delicious, but that was not the case. The sausage gravy was extremely sweet. That's right, sweet, like saccharine sweet. Not sure if this is their recipe or if a mistake might have been made, but it was nothing like biscuit gravy I've had anywhere and I cannot recommend this. - There were some items we liked, including the chicken sausage, which were flavorful big fatties that were well-cooked. - The hashed browns were cooked nicely as well. - The coffee was tasty. A little set back at first with this as the half and half instantly curdled when introduced to my coffee, but the server immediately corrected this by exchanging my mug and bringing new creamer with the new coffee. It happens and I don't hold this against them at all. I hope the management will consider some of this feedback because we really need and appreciate having establishments like this in this sit-down restaurant desert. read more

The new Joes Green Barn is an entirely new restaurant in what was the old niveens location in town. New exterior and interior, new menu with a lot of the familiar staff still present. I was greeted walking in and seated in the same moment. The staff as usual are all friendly and kind, new country themed outfits though. After giving the menu a once over, I decided on a sandwich, the Reuben with fries. Grilled marble rye, loaded with thick lean corned beef, sauerkraut, melted swiss with thousand island dressing on the side and a generous portion of french fries. A decent sandwich, hearty and filling with good flavor and crunch, it was a little on the greasy side only issue. I got a piece of cheesecake to go, there are a nice assortment of bakery items at the front counter. Joes is a decent family diner with a nice memu, and many added drink options san alcohol. 3.5 Stars rounded up for the complete redo in and out, I will be back to try breakfast 00952 read more

It contained ham, sausage, and bacon--the bacon could have been better cooked and there could have been more cheese; potatoes were well done and delicious. The salsa was house-made and perfect as a compliment. Coffee was piping hot and fresh. Wish they offered plant-based creamer. I had the tri-tip dip, big enough I only ate half. Nutty kicker was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was $2 each at happy hour! Haven't seen a $2 crafty beer in two decades. Fun fact, we traveled home to Reno the next day, stopped at Redding In-n-Out Burger. My tri-tip sandwich was so good I chose to eat the leftover half instead of my usual double double order! Fare is very beef-based with a good specialty burger menu. Also a number of chicken, fish, and pork dishes as well as some salads. A few dishes under "From the Garden" are vegetarian. Portions are fairly large for the price with good-quality ingredients. The fries taste homemade, fresh and flavorful though a bit limp. The Firehouse Burger lives up to its name in spice. We had it a few times before FINALLY getting the chance to go into the restaurant, and we've gone a couple times now...The place is adorably decorated with mossy country vibes, it's clean and bright! Every person I have talked to has been SUPER welcoming, Even if the food was bad I'd still go to be treated so well. Don't worry though, the food was great. The prices are low for the huge portions. I've had the buffalo chicken sandwich (sadly I didn't take photos that day) and it was excellent! My second order was a hot roast beef sandwich. So yummy!!! Joes green barn keeps amazing me with the staff and the portion sizes. Went here with a group of 4 when they were really busy. The wait time was less than 10 minutes for a table and they were very quick to get our drink orders and food, which was nice. I got the fireman burger, and the rest of my group for the chicken waffle Benedict special. When we got the food we were all surprised that the portion sizes were a good size!! i was so excited to have a new option in McKinleyville to get dinner when I don't feel like cooking. The one star would be for the yummy fries that we got. However, I was so disappointed by our experience and usually don't do reviews but for the lack of accountability, I have to in hopes of helping others avoid this seriously terrible experience. My daughter got really bad food poisoning this from a hamburger made here. I asked it to be well done and they made excuses like maybe an order got mixed up. Seriously? Even if it was this burger was rare and I have pictures to prove it. I kindly brought the burger back the next day to inform them and as my daughter asked, let the staff be aware in order to avoid this happening again. The staff said there was no manager and the owner had just left so I left my number and one waitress apologized while the rest looked at me as if I was crazy. I had to insist that they look at the burger and they said the owner would call me. After another day, I received no phone call and couldn't find a phone number so I went back again. This time, the manager had not heard about it and the other staff informed me that the owner looked at the burger and didn't think it was raw enough to cause food poisoning. Well indeed IT DID! My poor daughter was up all night sick and this was the best reaction they could give? I'm seriously disgusted that places like this can remain open. I'm sure it was a fluke but the fact that I kindly brought it to their attention and they acted as if they did nothing wrong is appalling. I hope they learn from this awful experience and improve their kitchen staff training as well as making sure an appropriate manager handles these situations appropriately. read more

Excellent service provided today on our first visit. We went for late brunch (after 12) which is challenging to get locally. Most Humboldt restaurants close breakfast at noon. So score a point for Green Barn! The menu is extensive, which makes me wonder if they can really do all things well. The place was well laid out and theme decorated for western. The waitresses wore cowboy hats in keeping with the theme so the ambiance was consistent. My favorite thing about having brunch out is mimosas. They had a number of flavors and sizes. So score 2 for Green Barn. I, of course got the pint and was very pleased! For breakfast, I chose the ham and cheese crepe with hollandaise. (Something I wouldn't make at home). It was very good, although I'm not sure the sauce was fresh made, it was decent. My husband chose the ham and eggs. 3 eggs is a plus in his book and they were a perfect over easy. The ham was good sized but more like a farmer John slice, certainly not local or thick (menu description). He got the home fries which needed more frying and some seasoning. I thought my hash browns were far superior. All in all it was a good experience and we would return. I would love to see the owners focus on creating a signature special and doing it well.
