Holy crap! I would even say that I'd call this location hellish sh!t! They took so long to "attempt" to prepare a single cheese burger and a small fry for over an hour and a half. They wouldn't give me any update as to why it was taking so long and at the end of it they canceled my order for no reason! I've been hearing criticism of Five Guys recently. Sure, there are places that do better burgers (always "back home"). BUT, I always remind people that until Five Guys exploded onto the franchise world, we citizens of the land that invented the burger, were putting up with eating those ashen colored, gristly, wet wool sock texture burgers that most places were serving (and some still do). Five Guys revolutionized and re-energized the humble burger. They said, "yes, we'll take something cheap and basic (and super-American) and make it good again. We will build it stronger. And better. I've eaten a lot of cheeseburgers - A LOT. All over the DMW. There's three kinds of burgers I've come across. 1.) The kind where the patty is meh, nothing special, but decent and made tasty with good toppings. These kinds of burgers you get at your neighborhood restaurant/bar - Stray Cat, Rhodeside, Dogwood. 2.) Is the nasty patty that is gristly and flavorless that have a bite or two you have to spit out. Doesn't matter what you put on this bad boy (ahem, BGR). And 3.) This burger is quality meat, flavorful, and lovingly formed into a tender patty made even better with toppings and a soft bun. This burger is only found at Five Guys. You don't even need toppings to enjoy this burger because the meat, the very PURPOSE of this cheeseburger is delish. But just go ahead and pile them on 'cause they're FREE. Don't believe me? Go there and shove your doubting hole with one and then compare with the last little tough patty you had at some random restaurant. Then write me a letter about how your Five Guys burger that is cooked well done is more juicy, flavorful, and tender than that little dissapointment you last had on a bun that you requested be cooked medium but was over-done, on a stale bun, with $2 worth of crap on top to make it palatable. Passing a Five Guys in Virginia is like getting a playful bump on the chin from Jesus. It's at times like that that I know the world is going to be okay. If there was a Five Guys in the Middle East, there would be no war... Not gonna lie, Five Guys is really good. I like how they have quite the assortment of toppings/condiments for the burgers. A splash of A1 on my burger is awesome. And malt vinegar and ketchup for fries, drool. I made the mistake of ordering a regular sized burger AND an order of regular fries my first time... wow can you say food coma? and the need to find pants with a larger waistline? The venerable chain finally gets an outpost in Courthouse. They easily have the best fast food burgers on the East Coast. The menu is fairly simple - burgers, hot dogs, fries. Don't bother getting two orders of fries; one order is enough to share with another person. Unlike the Georgetown location, the atmosphere is very sterile. I was excited to try 5 Guys out after reading so many positive reviews. I just didn't love it, in fact I didn't like it very much. Let me say that I am a big red meat eater. I love my burgers and would eat steak every night if I could. I ordered a little bacon cheeseburger. (which was not little at all) Maybe it was an off night but the meat wasn't juicy at all. The bacon was slightly thick, hard, and difficult to chew. It was like gnawing on a piece of beef jerky. After finishing half my burger, I had to remove the rest of the bacon because my jaw was tired! The fries were just ok as well. Love the seasoning but the fries could stand to be crispier. They reminded me of Outback fries. I am originally a west coast girl so my beloved In-n-Out & Fatburger are still at the top of my list. I will try 5 Guys again since so many of my fellow Yelpers seem to love this place. Hopefully, I'll enjoy it more next time. read more

I love cheeseburgers. It's true, I have a problem. I'll pay any price to feed my insatiable addiction and no amount is too high. Central? Bourbon Steak? All worth my coin. That said, Five Guys has an awesome burger for the price and I don't mind "slumming it up" sometimes. Throw in a small bucket of cajun fries and we're in business. We went today at 1 pm and it wasn't crowded at all, so this one is good for a quick lunch during the work day. Five Guys? Five stars. read more

A hometown favorite, but for good reason. For a few years as they expanded, I found the quality was just not there that I had come to expect. It seems, however, that around VA they have finally got it nailed down, I can't speak for any other state. Burgers are awesome and delicious fries to complement. Peanuts while you wait, and a no-frills menu for ordering simplicity. I'm a little bummed they've gotten so big, as I'd love to keep it for myself, but this is a burger I still crave often, so whatever. I recommend the cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. They are delicious. The employees were very friendly when I visited. I also like the peanuts. The bathrooms were clean when I visited. There were a lot of customers eating so I recommend arriving early for lunch or later in the afternoon when the crowds thin out a bit. read more

Five guys is pretty great. I love that you can customize your toppings (mmm fried onions) and they actually taste like a burger you'd make at home. I always get the little cheeseburger and its still plenty to eat for me! The servings of fries are huge so you can definitely share a regular size with one or two friends. Who hasn't been to a Five Guys these days? Atmosphere: casual, sometimes a bit too noisy due to either the patrons or the background music. Seriously, one time the music was so loud my friend and I had to shout at each other to be heard. Food: As a vegetarian, not too many options; not even a simple veggie burger, but the grilled cheese sandwich is surprisingly tasty and they are not stingy with the cheese or all the free veggie toppings you could wish for (just tomatoes for me, please). The price is also very reasonable. The fries are very good usually, unless you are unlucky enough to get all the burnt end pieces, which has happened to me a few times. I like the Cajun fries better than original. My only beefs are that they don't have any other cheese besides American; they don't even have a simple veggie burger on the menu; and they don't offer a small portion of fries, as the smallest size they have is more than enough for two people. If I dine there alone I don't even order fries since I would end up wasting half of them. read more

I was very impressed - this place gives In & Out a real competitor! Granted, they're on the opposite sides of the country, but they've got the same idea: fresh ingredients, simple menu, no frills. And Five Guys does it exceptionally well. The burgers are thicker, like one you'd make for your BBQ, rather than the normal thin burgers that you get at most fast food places. And the fries are tasty, and are freshly made each day - with a sign in the front telling you what farm the potatoes came from! Five Guys mekas a fine burger. It's big, greasy, meaty and tasty. And they let you choose off their big selection of toppings to add to the burger. It is certainly a big step above the average fast food. But keep in mind, fries, burger and soda costs 10 bucks here, so it might not be fair to compare it to McDonalds or Wendys. The fries are good, fried in peanut oil, and come in a generous quantity. Unfortunately, Ray's Hell Burger opened down the road and is far, far superior. Also, I always felt like I needed a shower after eating Five Guys. It feels like you're sweating grease. For some reason, this is the only place I get this feeling. read more

We can only hope franchising doesn't destroy what makes their older locations so wonderful. Real hand-formed high-quality ground beef patties made to order and grilled before your eyes. Nothing cooked in advance, so this is not "fast food" - you'll wait, munching free peanuts, for your burger to arrive exactly as you ordered it. Washingtonian Magazine correctly gives it raves. Unfortunately, that mag also recently published photos and recipies of "gourmet burgers" no real burger buff would ever touch, so just remember: Five Guys is 100% the real thing - probably better than your own backyard grill can produce, and their fries are just this side of sinful. I can't tell the difference between a little and a big the burgers are so huge. The fries are killer, especially if ordered extra crispy. For those not familiar with Five Guys, the menu is quite simple: burger (plus sides), fries, and drink. You can go from a plain hamburger to a bacon cheeseburger in little or big and refills are free. The sides (lettuce, pickle, onion, mushroom, ketchup, tomato, peppers and a whole lot of others) are included though you must make it clear to them in your order which sides you would like or not like else you'll get the full package (which isn't a bad burger either). If you're thinking hamburger, why waste a good slice of cheese? Get a cheeseburger. Note again that the littles are pretty huge. Expect dirty hands, lots of napkins and a full tummy, major WIN! read more

What can I say, my favorite burger. Although it's a heart attack wrapped in foil, to me it is the best tasting, juiciest (and most oily) burger. I love double patties with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms and BBQ sauce. Nothing beats that along with an order of Cajun fries - which are a must. Meh. I've eaten at several of these, and have yet to be blown away by their burgers. They're better than McDonald's and Burger King (then again, who isn't), and the meat is of a noticeably higher quality, but they're just as dry and unflavorful as most fast food burgers. Their cajun-style fries, however, are what keep me coming back to this place from time to time. They're much better than any fast food fries I've ever had, and they're better than the fries at most restaurants. For a good burger, wander down Wilson to Ray's Hell Burger. This Five Guys in Arlington is probably the nicest one you'll find in the area -- it's really clean (both the dining area and the cooking area), the staff are friendly, and the food comes out quickly. If you go to the DC Chinatown one, you'll see what I'm talking about... Parking kind of sucks -- you'll have to find something on the street. I usually sneak in the parking lot in the Martial Arts center across the street... it's not monitored, so a quick 10-15 pick-up shouldn't be an issue. I might be biased, since I've been going here since 1996 when there was like one of these in the whole world, but in my opinion Five Guys is quite simply the greatest burger and fries in the entire nation. It doesn't try to be anything special -- no frills, nothing extra. Just really good, juicy (and still juicy while being cooked well done) lean burger patties, fresh toppings cut daily, buns baked daily, and potatoes cut and fried daily in peanut oil. You will see bags of potatoes in the restaurant, so you know it's real. Oh that's the other thing - it's cooked in peanut oil. Less fat, less cholesterol, and plenty of crisp without the wonky taste of vegetable oil. The only thing Five Guys could do, which would be worthy of the first 6-Star Review ever on Yelp, would be to add shakes. But they feel like other restaurants do shakes better than they could, so they'd prefer to focus on making the best burgers ever (their words on their FAQ on their site). Absolutely outstanding. You will not be disappointed. Do not come here if you're a vegetarian. PS - this 5-star review holds for all Five Guys locations. Amazing that they've been able to continuously import potatoes from different locations, along with other ingredients, and maintain the same taste across the nation. read more

I don't understand why everyone loves Five Guys so much. The burgers are decent, the fries are pretty good, and having a box of peanuts that you can grab from is pretty cool. It's much better than Burger King or McDonalds if you're looking for a burger, but there are other quick places in the area that have better burgers in my opinion (Big Buns if you want to go a few more metro stops). And if you want something other than a burger, hot dog, or fries, you're outta luck. I like Five Guys, but I don't think it's as great as everyone makes it out to be. That being said, the toppings are really good, in particular the sauteed onions and BBQ sauce. Also, the portions are huge! The "little" burgers are regular size, and the regular burgers are huge. And a regular order of fries is definitely enough for at least two people (with burgers) for lunch read more

Burgers are not my favorite food, but after having ray hellburger's big poppa, i do have the occasional craving for a quality burger with bacon, fried onion, blue cheese, bbq sauce and mushrooms and nothing else. five guys comes pretty close - bacon mushrooms - so it solves my ray's cravings with out the rays price. you might say, if i'm going to stuff myself with all that fat and calories i might as well shell out the extra 5 bucks for the better meal, right? but five guys on its own does a decent job because it's still better than mcD's or wendy's. the fries are so good - fried in peanut oil so beware if you have kids with peanut allergies. dunk it in ketchup and mayo! so, overall - good to satisfy that need for a quality burger, a decent step between regular fast food joints and gourmet burgers restaurants. read more

When I'm really hungry and dying to sink my teeth into a juicy burger from here, I can always count on the free box of peanuts available to while you wait. I guess one would think peanuts don't go really well with burgers but somehow Five Guys makes it happen. I always get a burger with all the fixings and complete the meal with a side of fries which are hand cut, I believe, and seasoned well. Okay this would have got five stars but for a few things. So let me start off by saying the HAMBURGERS are awesome! When I walked in the place was clean and open so that's nice. The ordering was fast and considering it's all fresh cooked the service was fairly fast. But, and here comes a big but, I had a guy taking my order who wasn't very friendly. Which I somewhat understand that his job isn't the best in the world. Then I paid $11 for a burger with fries an a coke. That's too much. Sorry it's too much. If all I get is the hamburger for $5 I mean it better be good...and thankfully they are. But the fries an coke weren't worth $5... I mean cmon five Brothers let's give some value! How bout fries and a coke and a burger for $8 or so? This rating is based off The TOTALITY of all aspects of my visit! And paying $11 is too much! Five Guys where have you been all my life!? I was in Virginia this past week visiting a friend and was craving a burger really bad. Figured I'd give 5 Guys a try. BEST BURGER EVAH. Oh my god I was not expecting it to be so delicious. Yes it's greasy but that's what makes it so good. The fries are great as well. The nice part for people that love lots of toppings is that they're all free. Cheap eats for some really great food. It is far superior to other more expensive restaurant burgers I've paid $15+ for. 5 Guys recently opened stores in the Northeast but there is only 1 that is sort of close to me. All they have here are burgers and fries, but they're very tasty. All burgers are cooked well-done, but aren't dried-out the way you might expect from a "well-done" burger. All toppings are free, but there aren't yuppie toppings -- just the usual plus sauteed onions and mushrooms. I like this place better than nearby Big Buns, because Big Buns has more toppings, but their burgers always fall apart and don't have that same grilled flavor. The fries are always tasty, and come in "five guys" (regular) and "cajun" versions. The cajun version is well-spiced without being too spicy. Unless you remember to order a "junior" burger, you'll end up with TWO patties on your burger. read more

Service was fast and the restaurant was clean. The burgers never disappoint and the staff is always friendly. There are peanuts that you can eat while you are there. In the battle of East Coast Food vs West Coast Food, Five Guys is often held up as the answer to In-n-Out. Well, having had both I can honestly say that Five Guys doesn't hold a candle that is the magic of a Double-Double Animal Style. Now don't get me wrong, it's a good burger. But the entire time I was eating it I just couldn't get over this feeling that there was something that was lacking. Just a little bit of punch.
