I went there today for the first time. The prices are pretty expensive for an average burger. I would have rather had Red Robin! Seeing as it was my first time, I wanted to take a second to look over their (small) menu but the girl at the register was rushing me and there wasn't even anyone in line behind me. This was the worst dining experience of my life. Way over priced. Snippy Managers and a 35 minute wait. It was so hot inside and jam packed you could barely move. 3 burgers, 3 fries, 3 large cokes and 2 hotdogs. All this for $42.00 bucks. Come on!. And who puts lettuce and BBQ sauce on a hotdog ????? Food was ok. Nothing special but good. But the staff was kind of creepy. When I walked in the all seemed to stop what they where doing and excitedly greet me and make way to much eye contact. Then the entire Time I was waiting for my food and eating one of them was sweeping around my table. This wouldnt bother me at all normally but I swear she was sweeping only around my table and within that space focusing the most in areas where she would be extremely close and constantly bumping into and rubbing up against me. Yes, this 5 guys just opened this week, but the service is terrible! I went the day it opened and waited 15 minutes to get my burger and fries and thought that was a very long wait but gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was openeing day. After 25 minutes this afternoon, I asked to speak to the manager as I still had not received my food and it was 2:30 in the afternoon! The manager was about 20 years old and was totally overwhelmed! They have plenty of workers and it always looks clean but a 25 minute wait for a burger and fries is crazy! I will not be back until they get all the kinks worked out! read more

So I take my wife out for lunch one day after spending some time looking at new cars, a gift for Valentine's Day. We worked up an appetite and so I suggested we go to a place we hadn't yet tried. Normally, I look up Yelp reviews before trying a place but this time, it was another spontaneous decision, such like the car. Anyhow, we get up to the front to order and realize we practically have to give up a kidney each to eat. In fact, I saw a stainless steel surgical table right behind their swinging door next to the grill. Ok, ok....maybe not that steep but I figured the burgers and fries must be worth it. So, we ordered our lunch and the total comes out to $22. HOLY ATOMIC PILE, BATMAN!! (SIDE NOTE: I have a family of 6 and we spend less to feed EVERYONE at other places but certainly THIS place would NEVER be compared to places like McDs...lol). We get our food and we take our first bite...while it was better than a McDs burger, it wasn't better than a Steak N Shake or Culver's burger (and I'm NOT a big fan of either). This was quite disappointing, truly. I was SOOO hopeful and yet SOOO let down. The fries were just ok as well. Interestingly enough, MUCH better when they were cool than fresh and hot (that's not saying much). To those who are considering Five Guys, take your money elsewhere. Not only will the food be pretty comparable, you'll be able to walk away with both of your kidneys. One thing I did appreciate...the occasional random non-sensical scream-out-loud noises coming from the kitchen staff. It helped me reminisce of a tourettes friend I had in college. Granted, the expectations were set pretty darn high, with all of the gigantic posters with blown up quotes from your mom and uncle's cousin's cat's groomer's friends, saying that it's the "BEST EVER!!!" and all that fabulousness, posted in every window and throughout the restaurant. But sheesh... $33 to feed two adults and a toddler? Methinks not. The price aside, the burgers weren't even all that great! Yes, it was cooked properly, and prepared just as I ordered, but really, it doesn't live up to the hype. I could have spent a few bucks on a Whopper and been just as satisfied. Fries were mediocre, and lacked salt. I did give extra points for having that cool Coca-Cola mixer-a-doodle machine, but I had to take them back when they were "out" of several of the flavors I wanted to try. Overall? Boo! small cheeseburger, small fry (still large) and small drink, approaching $12.....taste is fine but not worth what they charge----not good value and so will rarely eat here......also menu is very limited. They should look for ways to reduce their costs and decrease their prices. read more

Just went to Five Guys burgers in Crystal Lake and I have to say I really liked it. The cheeseburger was absolutely perfect. The place is a bit pricey, but this isn't your average cheeseburger either. Also, the fries were very good. Definitely going back!!!! read more

Amazing staff and amazing burgers. Alot of people complain about prices here i found that these burgers are only 20-30 cents more then other burger places and for fresh never frozen patties ill take that. I have never waited longer then 7 minutes for my food besides when there busy and that would be only a 10-13mins wait which is no problem for this Quality meal. read more

It's time for some Yelp Review Judo re: Five Guys. Why so few positive reviews? Why so few reviews at all? And, the ones that do get posted are basically just knocking the price and comparing this place to Steak 'n Shake. Maybe people don't want to get their greasy fingers all over their smartphone? Maybe they have no time because they have kids running around eating shelled peanuts? Five Guys is a burger joint. They have fries too. Enough said. Eat or don't eat. My family and I love Five Guys. While its a little chilly in the building, the fresh cut fries and famous burgers are filling. And...the Crystal Lake staff is friendly and competent 100% of the time. We're certainly not planning to retire soon, or ever, at this rate. But if we can spend discretionary funds on burgers in Chicagoland, this is one place we enjoy every visit. If you're looking for a burger and fries, Five Guys is in that category. Stay hungry my friends. read more

If it wasn't for the price I'd give it a 5. The people bitching about the wait, what did you expect? that's what happens whenever any new hyped up place opens up. Just wait till Chic-fil-a opens. I might have been lucky or just hit a good time but it was a around 5 or 10 minute wait. The burger was huge and I was stuffed when finished, next time I'd just get a single. The fries were awesome but do you really need 14 lbs. of french fries for $3? I would just assume get 1/3 as many and pay $1.50, would never get fries again unless I was splitting them with someone, way too much. but damn, they were good. I'll go back, get a single, no fountain drink, and find someone to split the fries. better than the average burger but by no means the best in the world. read more

I had never been to a 5 guys before so this was my first experience. I ordered the regular with fries and a drink and it was 11.64. I was shocked. When I got the burger, I realized it was a double burger. About 1/2 pound. Nowhere on the menu did it say the regular was a 1/2 pound burger. If I had known that I would have ordered the small burger, but I thought those were for kids. The burger was good and the fries were good, but not worth 11.64. The point at which I said I would never be back was while I was waiting for my food a lady was up at the counter and seemed upset. She asked how long it took to get a burger and everyone behind the counter just stood and stared at her. Didn't say a word. She went on to say her friend had ordered at the same time as was almost done with her burger. Still no response from the people behind the counter. They seemed as if the lady was from Mars. They didn't offer an apology or anything, they just stood and stared at her. If this is the type of service they offer I think I will stick with Portillios or Culvers. read more
