The other main difference is American Coney has open seating because REAL Detroiters don't eat there. When interviewed there's a real character difference between owners. Grace Keros, the 3rd gen owner of American Coney likes to talk sh1t. You don't need to do that when your product is superior. Every interview she gives is sour grapes. I tried to wander over to that bar side just to grab a beer, but holding the spaghetti bag apparently marks you as an outsider. The staff over there chased me off pretty quick and directed me back to the designated area for the pasta crowd. Once you get into the correct zone, the space actually has some cool character. The highlight is the "trailer" that acts as the merch store. The concept is neat, but the actual retail experience fell a bit flat. They were completely cleared out of most shirt sizes, the pricing felt way too steep for what it was, and the guy working the counter was kind of a dick. Still, the spot is absolutely worth checking out at least once for the sheer novelty, just make sure you know exactly what you are getting into before you walk up to the window.

The two guys who were putting fries into the bags decided to get into an argument about putting fries into the bags. One walked to the back and took his apron off while telling the other to do the same. The other guy followed and they began to fight in the back... all while our food sat in the bag not being given to us. As the fight occurred, everyone in the kitchen ran to watch the mayhem.
