Excellent service, clean environment, restrooms attended to, ups the ante for any restaurant. Add hot, cooked to perfection fries, and a juicy burger. This lunch stop while traveling was perfection. All toppings are free. Burger cooked to order. Your way. Coke products and brewed iced tea. They still offer the peanuts in shell while waiting. Staff - friendly, attentive, and prompt. You would think a place that charges what it does for a hamburger would keep the dining room clean. The black bins that you see in the 2nd picture were empty. They removed them while we were sitting there. Yes, the prep containers hold more however, they are not as I wonder if their corporate office has approved this look? I would guess not. read more

I grew up with Whataburger's back in Texas and love the In & Outs out west but for Hickory, I will catch 5 Guys. The hotdogs are very good as well and I had one just this afternoon...! This is my local five guys always a pleasure coming here, they have a great outside eating area. The employees always have a great attitude and it shows in the cleanness of the restaurant and the service you get. I went back to Five Guys yesterday for one specific reason. After my last review (which was good, but not perfect) I received a personal email from the manager... thanking me for the review AND offering to "tune" their fries in hopes they would be better next time I came in. Seriously impressed with staff that cares that much... I went back. Guess what. Fries were perfect. And, as usual, the burgers were FABULOUS! Restaurant was busy and I was AMAZED at the efficient, courteous and FAST service. Cashier was friendly and patient (I was ordering with my young children in tow). Burger was good. Fries were soggy so I went to the counter and ask for fresh fries when Landon told me the fries were cold bc we had not heard him calling our number to pick up our food. He asked if he could charge me for a new batch of fries. I refused and told him the music was so loud and they had no microphone for customers to hear them calling out numbers. Visiting NC this week. Coming from South Jersey, I am very familiar with Five Guys as they seem to be opening stores on every corner lately in South Jersey! I could be wrong but this location in Hickory, NC seems to be the only Five Guys in the area and it does not disappoint! The location was super busy but the crew handled it efficiently and in a friendly manner. Quality of the food was outstanding. I asked for extra jalapeños and I certainly got them! This was a refreshing contrast from South Jersey locations that I have visited where "extra" means 3 or 4 jalapeño slices. We ordered 7 burgers and the crew forgot one. Luckily we noticed the missing burger before leaving with our bag (this was a takeout order). The staff was apologetic and offered some free drinks to compensate for the oversight. Overall the food was great. Fries were crisp and tasty and burgers were delicious. Hoping for the sake of the local NC residents that Five Guys keeps up the good work unlike in South Jersey where a proliferation of new locations has sometimes meant that quality and attention to good food has suffered a bit and been taken for granted as the chain seems more focused on growth. I agree with other reviewers, that over-all, Five Guys is not better than other fast food. I think some rave as they do, because fresh-cut fries are really just that good. They prove that you can sell about anything, just for that reason. I mark them a bit lower than my 4-5 star fan rating, since as others have said, they are serving soggy food. I have traveled around and eaten at several of their locations, and 9 of 10 times, the fries are soggy. Being determined, as I am, I always order my fries specifically with the "special instructions," of "WELL DONE," and 9 of 10 of those times, the fries still come out soggy, but then I stand and say, "um, I ordered these well done." They apologize, and then remake them, and THEN they come out nice and hot and crispy. Five Guys corporate should probably hear from me. Maybe when I get my other stuff done, some day I'll pick up a phone. I do like that they have heard consumers wishes about naked burgers. They (in the past 2 years) have started offering 2 bunless options: lettuce wrap, or "bowl" style. Since I don't eat the bun, I don't have to be disappointed with a soggy burger, but if I did, I would be, too. read more

I had my first Five Guys' burger not too long after the grand opening. It was a dizzying experience because the building was bursting at the seams with people wanting to check out the newest burger join in town. Thankfully, over a year later, things have slowed down a bit. It use to be impossible to get a table, and the wait for your order was upwards of 20 minutes, but now things have steadied out. Although it is still a very popular place in town, it is a lot less packed on a daily basis. The staff is always friendly, the burgers are always juicy, and the fries are always fresh. there really isn't much that can go wrong at a place like Five Guys. The menu is simple, and to the point. They don't do much, but they do it well. If it is your first time at Five Guys, heed my advice. Order a regular fries, and share them with a buddy. THEY ARE HUGE! As fast food burgers go, this is as good as it gets. Yep, it costs more than a trip to any of the other places, but if it is burgers you want, you can't go wrong here. Staff is always friendly and efficient. I have NEVER had an incorrect order. The only downsides : the music tends to be somewhat loud, making a conversation difficult, and the thermostat tends to run to the cold side(according to the women in my family). There is NOTHING better than one of their bacon cheese burger! The fries are always fresh, the burgers to perfection, and the staff friendly! My son is a picky eater but will ALWAYS dive into their grilled cheese. One large fries serves my entire family and then some. The restaurant is always clean as are the restrooms.
