This is a fabulous all-around bbq restaurant that not only serves the ubiquitous Carolina pulled pork, but brisket, chicken and ribs as well. The place is spotless, inside and out, and all the workers are super friendly and helpful. Order at the counter, take a number, grab your drinks, and sit. A waitress will bring your food and bus your dishes. We've tried a bunch of things, all so delicious. Chicken and pulled pork are so juicy and tender. The baby back ribs are slightly sticky, and fall off the bone with more meat than you usually see on them. The best, IMO, is the jalapeño cheddar sausage. Not very spicy (4 yo granddaughter loves it!) but a good strong jalapeño flavor with plenty of cheese. Lots of side dishes. The best is their baked mac & cheese. Their best sauce is the Carolina White. Their Carolina Mustard is good, but a wee bit on the sweet side. Today, I tried the Loaded Bbq Baker with pulled pork (see pic). I had read that it was large, but what was served to me was humongous. They literally took the biggest potato and added a 1/2 potato onto the end. It has butter, sour cream, cheese, real crispy bacon bits and green onions, topped with pulled pork and a side of BBQ sauce of your choice. I could barely eat half. It was delicious and everything I wanted and I got to take half home for dinner tonight. My grandson had (not pictured sorry) the mac & cheese bowl topped with pulled pork. I will definitely order that next time. I love their mac and it's more of a suitable portion. Lol I do wish we lived closer so we could eat here more often. Today we stopped in for a quick lunch. Two of us shared the nacho plate with brisket, which was another $4.99 on top of the price, and the other person ordered chili and salad. The nachos were not very good, the white melted cheese was salty and the amount of brisket on the chips was scant. We should have ordered the brisket sandwich or shared a rack of baby backs. The person that ordered the chili and salad di not like the chili at all. The atmosphere was nice and the music wasn't to loud. Service and wait times were in line with what we expected, actually the service was above average. read more

Can't seem to get the order right, three times in a row. And the last two times the servers were hanging out in the restroom on their phones instead of serving customers. I have been to a lot of Jim n Nicks and this one was by far the worst one most are super good. First of all I asked for the Karls fish filets and they stated we are out didn't even have any at lunch that's it. I ordered the Marbled brisket and it came out Marbled well but it was so Salty I could barely eat it. When I opened my silverware napkin there is only a fork in it. No spoon for the Brisket Chili, no knife to cut the brisket. I asked the cashier if the silverware napkin was suppose to have a knife and she turned around and stated I can go get you one. While all the food was great barring the salty cap on the brisket the service was very poor and not very helpful. I will avoid this restaurant in the future. read more

I don't understand this restaurant. I ate there a few years ago right after they opened. The BBQ was cold, so I never went back. This past Saturday I returned and it was the same thing. The food and service was spectacular. We ordered a family meal in the drive through. We got pulled pork, collards, mac and cheese and coleslaw. We also got four buns and six cheese rolls. The pork came wrapped in the styrofoam container. We were surprised by how much meat was in it once unwrapped. Everything was fresh and a bargain in our opinion. We'll definitely return. read more

Stopped by this new spot while visiting family, and I'm so glad I did! At first, I was a little unsure of the vibe--was it a casual hangout with outdoor seating, a more upscale indoor dining experience, or a drive-thru? Turns out, it's all of the above! The food was solid, and I was especially impressed with the beer selection. Food was completely disgusting, the brisket was extremely dry and flavorless, the chili tasted like it was from last week, the baked potato was undercooked (and why is this a $3 addition), the only thing that tasted semi decent was the cheese bread and the muffins were so small its barely enough to taste. We came in just before the typical dinner time rush and never saw a waiter/waitress. We sat there for half an hour with our food barely touched and not a single person came to check on us. If drinks weren't self serve we would still be sitting there waiting on our first refill. After that long of being completely ignored by the wait staff while all the tables around us were being waited on, I eventually had enough and had to talk over to a service area and get to-go boxes myself. The little cheese biscuits they bring to every table are amazing. I get the pulled pork sandwich and it's always good. If you don't want to walk up and place your order at the counter before sitting down you can sit at the bar and order there. You can also order ahead and go thru their drive-thru. read more

I would like to start by saying I am not a huge bbq fan. I had worked in a bbq restaurant for years and that ruined my desire to eat bbq. However, Jim 'N Nicks is wonderful! They have a wonderful wait staff who keeps the tables clean and helps get you anything you need once you've ordered. My nana LOVES their chicken tenders and my dad got the half a chicken with all white meat. He stated it was some of the best around! I had a burger, which was pretty great considering this is a bbq joint. They really have something for everyone and the price is pretty on point for the quality food you receive and amount. I went to Hickory to several places on 1/23/26 . I had not eaten anything all day and we wanted BBQ so I went to Jim N Nick's BBQ. They have the best BBQ of anyone plus,Mac n cheese or slaw or baked beans as your sides. And you will be very satisfied with your meal. Nice place with nice staff. Very clean. We were traveling and we love BBQ so we stopped hoping for some good food. We were greatly surprised and pleased at the bbq!! I have eaten here one time. I got the two meat with sliced turkey and pulled chicken with Mac and cheese. The turkey was ok. The chicken was so overcooked it chewed like jerky. The Mac and cheese was as expected. My son got ribs. He barely ate them. The cheese biscuits were good, but I had to ask about them and didn't know you got them until I saw other tables getting them. This is a new place for us, best friend got a gift card so decided to try it out! He got the 3 meat plate with ribs, pork and brisket and loved all of it! Barely if any did not need sauce. He got that with baked beans potato salad; ate the salad right up and let me share the beans with them they were okay. I got bbq salad with pulled pork, DELICIOUS. I added corn and smoked onions also. I got on the side the honey mustard and the house made vinaigrette both were good I'd prefer the honey mustard though it's kind of like a vinegarish light sauce. I love sauces so I asked for their homemade bbq sauce(which is the only one they had) and Tabasco the same only hot sauce they have. Their house bbq I did not care for at all it was a light sauce and not enough or the right flavor for me. By bf though said it's cause I like thicker bbq sauce. We also got deviled eggs which were delicious he ate them all about before I could try one, which I didn't cause he was obsessed lol. And they also give you cheesy honey biscuits omg sooooo good! I could've eaten 12! You get them with your meal though so don't hungry overbuy ... yet haha. The girls that walk around and help you or ask if you need anything were so nice. It's a nice restaurant environment. Our server was nice but the hostess seating lacked a customer service personality. Food was okay, nothing exceptional. Better barbeque at JDs in Rutherford College. I'm not one for much fat chopped in with my bbq. Sides were almost better than the main event. Probably won't visit here again. read more

The barbecue is definitely awesome. Nothing is dry, and flavor is great. Fries have the right touch of seasoning and the coleslaw complements the meat well. Lighting is just right and the music is just a touch loud. The staff is friendly and very welcoming. It didn't take long to get our food. Menu very pricey, the pulled pork was cold and tasteless. no smoke flavor, mushy, also I do not like little globs of fat in my pulled pork. btw I make much better on my small grill at home. Pulled pork is not hard! The brisket at 22 bucks was cold, dry, tasteless, and our sides were the best part of the meal despite the cold limp fries.. This place could have potential but a bbq restaurant in Hickory needs to have hickory smoked meats, not this institutional food.
