Oh not sure if the staff was having a bad day today, but unfortunately my husband and I did not have the best food at Backstreets at the Hickory location. For food, I ordered the fried pork chops with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes (gravy on the side). While fried pork chops were tasty and well seasoned, the mashed potatoes had the perfect texture but lack any seasoning. Very very plain. Mac n cheese was a hard pass. I ate one noodle and quickly pushed the whole bowl to the side. I also had a margarita, usually a pretty easy drink to make. This one had a bit too much sour mix. My husband had the ribs with mashed sweet potatoes and parmesan French fries. The sweet potatoes and ribs were tasty but fries were a pass. Our server was very sweet and attentive. Overall, it was a mixed experience. Some parts were really good, others not so much. But don't let this review deter you from trying Backstreets as we love the Columbia location. read more

We had a pleasant experience. It was pretty crowded and we had a 10 minute wait which was not bad at all. Our waitress, Mikayla, was very nice and calming. I started with the soup and salad. They had multiple soup options from which to choose. The soup was pretty good but could've used a little more seasoning. The salad was fresh and crisp. I adore the sweet potatoes fries. The burger was slightly overcooked and I had to add ketchup. Overall, it was a decent experience. Parking is ample in the parking lot outside which is shared with Lowe's grocery store. Highly recommend!!! My husband and I spent the weekend in Hickory to celebrate my birthday. We went to dinner at Backstreets on Saturday night and it was everything I hoped for! We went for a late dinner and arrived just before the kitchen was to close, I felt so bad about that! The staff was super nice about it and we ordered quickly. The steak fajita wrap was the absolute best steak fajita wrap ever! There were both red and green peppers and they were cooked perfectly. The tortilla was fresh and flavorful. The steak was Chef's Kiss! Their sweet potato waffle fries were amazing too. My husband ordered their bison burger and truffle fries and went on and on about how great both were. We loved our server. She was super friendly and welcoming. She was cleaning her section before we left and we were beyond impressed with how thoroughly she was cleaning. Atmosphere is interesting -- old train station. Artisan cheese and wines for sale in front. Or waitress was excellent, very attentive. Food was okay. My friend's BBQ ribs were dry, but she said the BBQ meat underneath was good. I had a smoked cheese burger, which was also somewhat dry. I'm hold have used more aioli. read more

The food was pretty decent. My father got a steak and said it was cooked great. However the service was lacking. Our waitress brought out the wrong drink, then forgot straws, then forgot utensils, then we got brought an empty bottle of steak sauce, and we requested ranch when our food got brought out but we had to ask two more time and overall didn't get it until our meal was finished. It was a busier time so I understand but as this was our first experience it could definitely be improved. Also I got the bread bowl with soup. There was only about three ounces of actual soup and maybe one ounce was in the bread bowl and the rest was poured outside of it on a plate which made it extremely difficult to eat. We definitely will try it again, but hope it's better next time. read more

My family member invited me to join them for lunch at Backstreets. Despite growing up here, I never knew this restaurant existed until now! I was hesitant at first to try it out because they didn't have many vegan options. Actually, the only Vegan item I really found was the Asian Kale Salad. Needless to say, I'm happy I did decide to go because that salad was fabulous! It was very large and the flavors in the salad played a tune on my taste buds! Bouncing back and forth between sweet, savory, crunchy, and a hint of spice from the sriracha on the sides... It was the perfect balance for a perfect salad! My husband got the chicken fajita wrap, and he really really enjoyed it. He said it was one of the best wraps he's had in a long time. My son who is a picky eater REALLY liked his burger, but wasn't a big fan of the Macaroni and cheese. My husband was though, so take his word for it tasting fresh and made from scratch! My family chimed in and said the grilled chicken is perfection, that's why they enjoy it as the protein on their salads. We came around lunch time on a week day, and there WAS a wait, but we waited around 10 minutes before we were seated, so that's not too bad. Once seated and we placed our orders, our food didn't take very long at all to arrive at the table. The waitresses were very accommodating! If it came to a chain restaurant or Backstreets, I'd definitely choose this place any time. I hope to see that they add more vegetarian and vegan options to their menu soon! If so, I'd become a regular myself! Dishes are around $10-$15 per person depending on what you order. It isn't exactly a one cash sign establishment, but in this case, it's a good price to pay if you're looking for a flavorful dish. Backstreets is decent food, I'll start there. Great ahi appetizer, decent steak, drinks, etc. It's not life changing, but it's decent when considering just the food. I just always shoot down my friends when someone suggests it. No reservation or call ahead, so if it was like my last visit, it was a 5:35 arrival, told 20-30 minute wait, and was sat at my table at 6:55 for 4 guests. That's been my experience the 3 times I've been. That wait just ain't worth it for what you get unless you wanna look around confused with 20 other people in a tight lobby. Front desk spends all day answering questions about when there will be a seat, so I feel bad for the staff when a reservation system would fix the restaurant's major problem. Also annoying, some of the entrees on the menu don't come with 2 sides as advertised. Even though website suggests it does, those are extra charges if you order the pasta or some of the other entrees on the entrees section. read more

Customer service is lacking in the bar area. We were not offer a drink menu and when we asked what was different that they put in their Sex on the Beach they got defensive. We wanted what we were used to drinking. They did not like having to make a traditional drink. Our appetizer can less than 20 seconds before our meals with an explanation that it was an appetizer that takes a long while to prepare. It was the crab and artichoke dip. The food is the only thing that keeps me coming back. I placed a takeout order here today and I was disappointed with the lack of attention and service from waitstaff. While my food sat on the bench behind the counter, three tables were seated and a phone order was taken before I was even addressed. If there had only been one employee, then I would have been more understanding but there were three. Average at best! Club sandwich was big but all low quality highly processed lunch meat and American cheese. Lettuce was soggy. Buffalo chicken wrap was somewhat greasy inside and out (even the tortilla), with soggy lettuce again. Fries were not bad. Brunswick stew seemed out of a commercial grade factory, not resembling home made in any way. Could tell by the square potatoes found in canned soup and bland taste. The curry chicken soup was good according to my daughter, but her taste is not very refined. Service was good and quick. Ambiance was good.
