Not bad. The dining room is actually pretty nice, with lots of local sports paraphernalia and Indy-related decor. There are lots of different places to sit, from booths to tables. Probably the best part of the meal was the ice that they offer in the soft drink area. It's the best kind of ice: rabbit turd! If an establishment offers rabbit-turd ice, it immediately jumps up a notch in my mind.

One word: GREASSSSSY Don't go in with high expectations. I've heard of Five Guys for the longest time so my standards for the place was unreasonably high. This review's not based on my original expectation though, so it's an unbiased review. (: For a fast food joint, the burger's alright. I order a cheeseburger and by the time I arrived back at work, the grease had eaten through paper sack. However, they're very generous with their toppings, and you can freely customize the burger to your own liking. Their fries definitely make up for the burger--the fries are fresh cut, perfectly seasoned, and crispy, yet fluffy on the inside. :3 In my opinion, there's quite a few other better burger places in this area, including at least one 'fast food' type which is a much better value & flavour without the pretentiousness. read more

I LOVE this place. They're a little pricey, but the food is fabulous so it's worth it. The cook everything to order, so if I know I want to stop there for a burger, I call a head and it's ready to go when I get there. Their fries are cut in the shop and are fresh as can be. Their burgers are huge and I like the varitey of condements to add to my burger. My family and I frequent the shop. These place has changed in the last 6months. They have place run by a bunch of people off the street that need a job. The people making the food look dirty hair all over place and act like thugs that are going to take break for 30min when it's time no matter what. The fries are large enough to share. The Shack Burger is good, comes with cheese, lettuce and tomato that were fresh. My husband had the Flat-Top hot dog which is made from Vienna beef. The large dog is split and grilled. Fixings were limited to ketchup and packets of mustards. He would have liked some onions and relish. Otherwise, the dog was very good. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is made fresh so takes awhile to prepare. They give you a table number and deliver the food to your table. The restaurant has about 20 tables inside and a dozen outside on the patio. On the patio, there is water for your trusty canine. I was surprised to see they serve wine and beer. The wine comes in cans. I did not try, as it was early in the day. A nearby food pantry was collecting donations. A portion of the daily sales went to the food pantry. They support the community. Internet signal was weak in the restaurant, but maybe that will improve with time. I did not see a drive-through. There was plenty of parking in the dedicated lot.

But feel free to get as weird with it as you want. They really bring the idea of "Have It Your Way" to life. The Carmel location isn't quite up to the Downtown Indy level. The burgers were basically the same, but not quite as flavorfully popping. The service, cleanliness, etc., was all perfectly fine taken on its own merits. But compared to Downtown Punch Burger, doesn't quite measure up. I'd definitely say give them a try if you're in Carmel and looking for a good burger. If nothing else, the waffle fries are completely to die for.

Cons: My partner and I decided to stop here on our way to an event for dinner. We had 40 minutes to get to a place 5 minutes away from this restaurant. We figured we had plenty of time. When we walked in, all staff were on their phones and did not notice us. There was ONE customer in the dinning area. We had to approach staff because not only were they on their phones around the corner from the only guest, they all had their backs turned to the door. It's possible the place has a bell or something to alert staff to customers. If so, no one could hear it because the place had Spotify playing excessively loudly. After we got the attention of staff and were seated, the waitress walked away and stared into her phone for 10 minutes before coming to ask for our drink order. We told her we wanted to order fully. We had to repeat our order MULTIPLE TIMES because she could not hear us over the music and we could not hear her. We asked if the music could be turned down three times and were refused. After placing our order, she came back shortly to tell us they did not have the appetizer we ordered and tried to get us to order a specific app we did not want and had no interest in. Eventually, we were served our burgers with 15 minutes left to eat and pay if we did not want to be late. When we got our food, both of our orders were wrong. My partner attempted to call out to the waitress (who was on her phone again), but could not be heard over the music. I had to SHOUT "Ma'am" at the waitress standing 10 feet away to get her attention because the music was so loud. We told her the burgers were incorrect and we needed to send them back. She tried to talk to us but no one could hear each other because of the constant music playing. She got the manager who came and asked what was wrong. We explained that one of the burgers should have been plain and the other should have had only lettuce on it. We then showed her that my burger had all condiments listed on the menu on it and my partner's burger had toppings that weren't even listed on the burger to begin with, including pickles which we both have mild allergies to. After the manager herself took our order, she came back with a menu and tried to justify somehow both the one burger made to menu standard and the surprise toppings on the other. Less than a minute afterwards, my partner's burger was brought out finally made correctly. She did not tell me until we left they had simply scraped off the condiments from the bun and she could still taste them on the burger and bun. She stopped eating after three bites. Several minutes later (and now making us late to our event), my food was brought. It was also made wrong yet again, but it was also plain now. My partner left the dinning room to take a call and to escape the noise of the music. I asked the manager lady for the bill and mentioned how they still had not made my burger as ordered. She apologized and said she would discount the tab for the troubles. The bill was not brought to the table until AFTER I had fully finished my sandwich. Neither of us were given any napkins or silverware at all, and my burger came with a sticky sauce I had to wash off in the restroom. The initial waitress brought me our bill. There was zero discount at all. I tipped incredibly low. I will never, under ANY circumstance, return to this establishment. For less than half of the price of two meals made incorrectly and lazily "fixed", I could have driven across 56th street to Burger King and gotten a burger made correctly and not have had to spend an hour being subjected to somebody's terrible rap music Spotify playlist (which included the song "My D*ck" by Mickey Avalon) being blasted so loudly that I got a headache from it. I wish them the very worst of success.
