I think I did a happy dance when I found out Michigan was finally getting a Five Guy's. This is the ideal burger joint, no questions asked. The menu is simple. Burger, big burger, hot dog, grilled cheese, fries. No fluffy frills and doilies, just a burger with whatever you want on it. The meat is beefy and perfect, the cheese is melty, and they are quite generous with the toppings. Don't bother getting the bigger portion of fries, they pack them so full that fries are spilling into your bag, so the small probably winds up being the amount that would appropriately fill the large fry container. I mean, if you want a large portion that's spilling over into your bag then go ahead, but that's a lot of fries, dude. Also, get the cajun fries, they are great. If you don't like cajun, then get the regular fries and soak them in the malt vinegar. The only thing about this location is that it is ALWAYS packed and since it's a small place, you may have a hard time finding a place to sit during dinner time. There is almost always a family just sitting at their table twiddling their thumbs even though they've been done eating for 10 minutes, so if you stand in the middle of the dining room holding your bag with a pouty look that says "I just wanna eat my burger but I can't sit and I'm sad..." you can probably guilt them into realizing they should get up. read more

Don't get me wrong.. My food was great.. but the hype created via media has seemed to unfortunately overshadowed this place to me... I have dined at Five Guys two times now, both times I left satisfied and happy. My burger had lots of cheese, bacon, fresh crispy jalapenos and tasted great. I like how when you walk in there is a sign indicating where exactly the days potatoes for the fries came from. I found the taste great, a small wait but worth it for fresh food. So Craig M. pretty much has Five Guys covered but I'm going to add a couple tips! First off, if you decide on the cajun fries like I did look out because they are spicy!!! My boyfriend and I liked the fries because they were crispy, fresh and not greasy. But because of the cajun we were sweatin' bullets half way through and ended up tossing the rest lol. Another heads up is that you don't need to order separate fries because one large order is enough for three people. Also, if you choose to eat inside it can be rather loud. For some reason when we went in to order they had the radio blasting and it was not at a reasonable volume were one could talk without yelling. But other than that I was impressed with how good the burger was from here. My cheeseburger was layered with two tender melt in your mouth patties. My boyfriend ordered the Kosher Style Hot Dog, which of course I took a big bite from. I'm not much of a hot dog fan, but their hot dog may change my mind. I also think they are reasonably priced. My burger was $5.09, the hot dog was $3.09 and the large order of fries was $3.99...very worth it! read more

For me, this place really didn't live up to the hype. I think part of the reason is it fits into the "fast casual" food service category along with places like Moe's, Jimmy Johns, and Chipotle. There aren't many burger joints in that range so people are tempted to compare Five Guys to fast food joints, followed by a raving recommendation for Five Guys. It's not fair to compare Five Guys to Burger King. Of course the burgers here taste better than Wendy's. They better given that they cost twice as much. Once you get over the urge to compare Five Guys to fast food burger pits, you see that really, you're paying as much here as you are at any sit down restaurant. As such, they should taste as good. They don't and that's where Five Guys loses me. To put it into perspective: A meal at Five Guys (burger, fries, drink) costs as much as the same meal at Red Robin. Personally, I prefer the choices available at Red Robin. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the fries and love the idea of leaving peanuts out to munch on with your meal or while you wait. I also like that vinegar was available for the fries, as they're the type that take it well. But the burger itself was nothing fantastic. The toppings weren't great and for me, their hot sauce is preposterously weak. It's baby hot sauce. Take all that together and pay roughly $10/person and I'm just not thrilled. Don't camouflage the burger with lots of toppings, the patty is sooo flavorful and juicy you will want it to be the star. If you have TMJ you will not be able to eat the "everything" burger. I was like a snake unhinging my jaw to get this thing in my mouth. Also, go with a "little" it's a quarter pound of succulent beef. The Fries I ordered a regular cajun to share. Holy Moly there was a lot of fries! Crisp, hot, and plentiful. I would skip the cajun seasoning. To me it just tasted like straight dried herbs. Blech. Next time I'll stick with the malt vinegar. The decor kind of freaked me out. Everywhere I looked I was bombarded with some signage telling me how great the burgers were. I'm already in the door... what purpose do these signs serve? Five Guys is the ideal Burger Joint if you are starving and want a s*** ton of food (ordering their large fries). The burgers here are really good! Sure it's not a 5 star place but for what it is it really does the job. I love coming here with my buds after starving myself for awhile so we can smash the food. It's definitely a notch up or two from a basic fast food level burger like BK/Mcdonalds. What I do love here is the variety and the endless options to customize your burger. The Cajun fries are my go to here, they are delicious and you also get a bag full of them, literally a bag full if you order the large. Give Five Guys a try if you're in the area. read more

Five Guys moved in while ago but my last two visits have been really good so I gotta Yelp. A burger made with REAL beef to order that's way tastier than the golden arches! The french fries are good when they are little crispy. A regular order is really like 2-3 typical orders else where. Lot's of toppings to choose from. Went to five guys around 6:30pm yesterday. Headed to the movies after. Within a an hour or two of the movie started to have really bad indigestion. Finally made it through the movie and home to find out I and my boyfriend got food poisoning. I still feel ill from eating here. I got the little bacon burger and my boyfriend got the bacon cheese burger and we shared Cajun fries. Don't eat there, so gross. read more

Most of the time the food is pretty good. I agree with some of the posts on the pros and cons. It seems the busy stores serve the better product. My pet peeve is sometimes the burgers are dry (I have seen them press the juice from the burgers) - or overcooked, which detracts from the quality. Today, although business was slow (just before 5 pm), they already had 'my' burger on the grill, which appeared to have been cooking a while. Other places put the burger on when you walk in if it is slow, to ensure top quality vs. fast service. I would rather wait for a quality burger. Also, the fries sometimes (besides being too much and costly for a single person), seem to be overcooked, dropped in the deep fryer more than once, and lacking freshness/flavor. Their core competency should be burgers and fries. The product needs to be consistent across all stores and at all times of the day - even if the 'supervisory staff' is in the back, doing whatever. I don't know what the reason is; lack of training? relying on young labor to consistently give good product? Rolling out too many stores and losing control - hence quality? Whatever the reason, if I am going to shell out $5.61 for a Little Bacon Cheeseburger, I expect good product - always. Add $3.17 for fries and a couple of dollars for a small drink and we are at approximately $11 - for their small-end version of a meal deal. I will pay $11 for a very good self-serve (i.e. fast-food) meal - but not crap. On a positive note, if you let them know when you get an inferior product they will offer a refund or do-over. I would prefer they get it right and save me time and save themselves increased costs. Update (1/31/13): I received a call from Marcus, the regional manager yesterday. I explained the above and went in for a 'do over'. The burger was much better and the fries were hot and not overdone (although a bit over salted). He also explained they drop the fries twice since they are not the frozen type and this is their way of doing it (corporate policy). I wish it was abit closer to where I live. 2 of my friends came up here from out of state (they dont have a five guys there) and they each ordered a large fry and got alot more than they were expecting haha. Overrated would be a gross understatement. My hamburger was flavorless (think 100% texture, 0% flavor) despite the usual toppings. French fries were plentiful. Two orders were enough to feed a family of six generously, but they were limp, greasy and overly salted -- a total waste of calories. These people clearly don't understand that fries need to be double fried in order to be crispy, it's quite a simple concept that nations and major corporations have mastered aka the French, the Belgians and McDonalds. The bun was stale. Really? Stale bread? Total bill for two burgers, two fries, a soda and a shake came to $27 and change. Incredibly disappointing for such a major outlay of cash and I will never, ever, under any circumstances go back. The guy who rang up our order was a complete sweetheart, so he was 5 Guys only redeeming factor that earned them this one star. Food Preparation, Quality, Price are all MAJOR FAILS. read more
