I'm surprised I haven't talked about this place by now. Been living here for almost 2 years, yet I couldn't find the time to write about french fries. What have I been doing with my life? (^^) Actually, there's not a whole lot to say about this place for me personally. Mostly because I never order meals here. That's right. I only come here for the fries. Cajun or plain. Doesn't matter much to me. But there's always just been something about the way FG does their fries that makes them stand out in a crowd of otherwise average to mediocre fast food joints that can't even hope to compare. BTW, that's just a pleasant way of saying I go here whenever I want more authentic fries that won't resist decomposition for several weeks if left uneaten (lookin' at you, McD's). Now, if you're wondering what I think of the burgers, I'll be honest with you. They suck. At just about every location I've ever visited. Look, I get that some people actually love their burgers. But these things are just so sloppily put together, I'm convinced an 8 year old could make a better burger. But that point is moot. The biggest complaint I have against this place is their inconsistency with fry seasoning. Sometimes you might get criminally under-seasoned fries (if you request moderate seasoning). Most of the time though, these things come loaded with salt. Like...saltier than the sea. I usually need about a bucket of water next to my plate whenever those nights arrive. It's like the cooks operate with extreme superfluousness, regardless of which level of seasoning you prefer. I think these folks should read "The Three Bears" again. Moderation is not the enemy of good flavor. At the end of the day, they're just another semi-innocuous fast food chain. We're still grateful to have one so close though. The fries are worth a go, so long as the seasoning is on point. I'm giving this Five Guys 3 orders of freshly cooked fries out of 5. read more

I tried to order online and for some reason online ordering wasn't working. No big deal, really, except that I have a family of 7 and just wanted it to be ready when I got there. I called, and I'm always apprehensive when I have a huge order, especially with all of the specifications required when ordering for 5 children and 2 adults . The young woman that took my order was gracious when I explained that I had a large order, stating, "our job is to help you". She was very patient and repeated the order back to me. Everything was hot and fresh when I got there, they put the fries in the bag once the cashier announced that I was there to pick up. My order was perfect, not one mistake. The decor is only oversized copies of newspaper and magazine articles about the franchise. It is not attractive and a bit desperate-looking. The cashier put my order in with two incorrect topppings added and one correct one missing. We were the only people in line. They made it up to me, but geez. The burger was under-cooked and cold too. Good stuff! I've been watching this restaurant under construction all spring/summer/fall and finally, last week, the place opened. Went there last week at 6pm with some friends and their son. The line was out the door and the place was mobbed! I had actually driven by at lunch and the line wrapped around the corner of the building. I had not heard of this chain before and wondered why during an economic slump someone would open a new (unknown) chain in Nahsua when a couple of local chains have closed locations here in the city. Well, after seeing & tasting the food and noticing the affordable pricing (less than $10 pp), I see why they moved in. Bye-bye Micky-Ds, BKs, and Wendy's - Hello Five Guys!! Real french fries folks! They (in front of you while you wait), cut and fry r-e-a-l potatoes. REAL (c'mon, who does that anymore??). Actually the whole 'prepare and cook the food' for each meal is amazing to watch. You can see that every ingredient is fresh. You can see your entire meal being prepared before your eyes. Five guys must have intentionally laid the kitchen out the way they did to make this viewing by the customer possible. It's a very nice touch. The hamburgers and fries are excellent. A few years back, I read the Ray Kroc story of how he bought the rights from the McDonald brothers to franchise their drive-in concept. Ray described in that book how he watched outside as the customers waited in lines for a hamburger and fries and how efficient the process was. He also took note of how fresh the ingredients were and how they prepared the potatoes and such. I think McDonald's of today left that simple but great concept behind and Five Guys has revived the original McDonald brothers' concept. I've eaten at several different Five Guys and typically the service and the food are respectable. This location has disappointed me several times, tonight being the worst experience I've had. I placed a mobile order and showed up about 10 minutes later (stated wait time 7 - 8 minutes). I proceeded to the pickup area, and waited for another 20+ minutes. I could see through the swinging doors that my bag was just sitting on the counter in the back. I waited as many customers who arrived after me (and ordered inside) got their order and sat down. They were busy, and decided to ignore mobile orders to prioritize in-house orders. I later discovered once they finally made my ridiculously over-salted fries (some of which I threw away) that my burger had been sitting in the bag the entire time I had been waiting. The young man who called out my order literally threw my bag of food at me and scowled. When I got home, the burger was ice cold and the fries were inedible (note that I live very close by, and the food is typically hot when I get home). I'll be taking my business elsewhere, and frequenting establishments that value customer service. read more

I decided to try out their online ordering system cause I was tired from a busy work day. Got my usual bacon cheeseburger all the way. Online system said it'd be ready by about 342pm (7min wait). I arrived spoke to the teller and decided after seeing a gentleman walk by with a milkshake that I also wanted one. Ordered that and decided to try it all out. It took a few extra minutes after I arrived but I could see my burger buns out and set but they waited till I arrived to give me a fresh hot burger patty. I was a bit disappointed it wasn't ready to walk out the door when I arrived but having seen and taken a minute to under stand why I realized I was more appreciative of the thought they put into a FRESH patty. When I got home to eat it was exactly how I had hoped and expected. The milkshake I must admit I was ready to judge harshly. It's hard to find a good, thick but drinkable STRAWBERRY milkshake. Yup.. it was a safe bet, gigundo burger "all the way" with fries and drink for $10.00. Figured my cardiologist would be proud of me, since I left off the bacon..... Great food, great quick service. They have these beverage machines that you need a degree in rocket science to figure out though... Just love the place.... you can never go wrong and so please dont't avoid that place whenever you see one. There is also a Chipolte Grill across the street. Here's a classic case of seizing defeat from the jaws of victory. This store has been in Nashua for several years now. I have been there maybe 8 times, total. Probably been a year since the last time. The reason I dont go there 8 times a month? THEY ARE DEAD SLOW. These people win the slow award, hands-down. I can get a pizza made faster. Even though their burger is "pretty good" (when served hot and fresh), the process is excruciating, each and every time. My GOD I have never seen 6 or 7 people take so long to get a basic single patty hamburger into a customer's hands. Not even fries or a drink, just a patty with mustard and ketchup. Simple you say? Yeah, me too. Customer service? Yeah right. Making sure the customer leaves happy, etc? Seems it rarely crosses their minds. Fail, fail, fail. This time I even CALLED AHEAD, thinking I could be smart about it. Well, after they had the order in their hands for 23 minutes, I finally asked for my money back, at which time they produced a cold dead burger. I realized they didn't give a crap about me or my experience, so I left that dead burger in their parking lot. You know, maybe when I sat at the table closest to them so they could not possibly miss me WAITING, they got a chuckle out of watching all the time go by. At what point does someone say "may I ask what are you waiting for". I honestly dont know if I am going back. Maybe another store, maybe a year from now. I mean, how may turds does someone need floating in the pool before they get out? What the heck is the matter with me, thinking that they are going to get it right next time? It's a downright shame. Someone started this business and thought with a decent tasting burger they would have great success. Let me tell you, these people would have a line out the door if they could get their act together. BEST burger I have ever tasted! I'm going on 60, and have had a LOT of burgers around the world in my time, but never one so juicy, and loaded with tasty cheese and veggies... plus they are so generous with their home-made fries cooked in peanut oil. I ordered a small fry, and not only did they give me what I ordered, but they dumped in about a pound of loose fries into the bag on top of it! Compared to other fast-food burger joints, this is the best you are ever going to experience! The only down-side is that their shakes are too expensive. I ordered a strawberry shake and though it tasted great, it was not worth the high cost of it. Next time, I'll just stick to the burger and fries :) read more

Five Guys IS a burger joint. No real extra's here as the menu is simple. You get three types of burgers: Burgers, Cheese Burgers, Bacon Cheeseburgers. Additionally they serve hot dogs, a grilled cheese (for the kids) and of course french fries. The simplicity in combination with taste are what I think makes this place a success. When looking at the menu at Five Guys for the first time you might think it's expensive. A burger starts somewhere around the 5 dollar mark. The first thing you need to know about a regular Five Guys burger is that it is two patties and they aren't as pitifully thin as McDonalds, BK, or Wendy's type patties. If you order a standard burger and throw on a few toppings it will be tall and it will be messy. Be prepared to perform some burger in-foil-management or bring with you a stack of napkins. If a burger like this is too large or too messy, opt for a "little" burger which has the single patty. If you ordered fries with your meal you might notice that the nondescript brown paper bag might be absorbing some grease. This is because the styrofoam cup only holds about 3/4 of the fries and the rest spill into the bag. If you have a problem with the styrofoam cup no one says you have to put it in a landfill. Bring it home and plant a seedling in it, build an IKEA style lamp shade (after multiple orders of fries), or draw some art on it and post it on-line (really, Google it). I've found that a single regular sized order of fries is enough for myself and another person. I've been to Five Guys twice since they opened and while the food was good both times, on the second visit they managed to leave the bacon off both bacon cheese burgers that were ordered. When my friend pointed out her's was missing the bacon I brought it up and they rushed an order through to give us a replacement burger. Then I discovered my own was missing bacon and had to go back again. By that point it was easier just get a few strips of bacon on the side and perform self-assembly. Despite the friendliness of the staffers I was a bit perturbed. While everyone makes mistakes I can't give them a 5 star review until I go back a few more times to ensure this was just a one-off. Either way, Five Guys is a great burger joint and I recommend checking it out. read more

2.5 stars. Five Guys is just fine. I like the burgers, especially that I can get a wide variety of toppings for free. I usually get the euphemistically named "little burger" because I just don't need that much ground beef in a single meal. (I think they call a single-patty burger "little" because they want to suggest to their male clientele that the size of the burger is a direct reflection of masculinity. "Real guys don't get 'little burgers.'") The fries are all right; I like mine a little crispier than theirs. I'm not really a fan of the restaurant itself and would never dine in. It's REALLY noisy, even during non-meal times. I don't mind the sound of the grill sizzling and that kind of stuff, but all of the shouting gets on my last nerve. If it's not someone screaming out an order number, it's the cashier yelling so loudly that 7 Eleven customers can hear. "THREE PATTIES! TWO PATTIES! FOUR PATTIES!" Psst ... the restaurant space isn't so big that shouting at the top of one's lungs is necessary all the time. read more

Why waste money on fast food, when you can waste money on fresh food? I love this place, and I can't wait till a location opens up in Westford closer to home. Food Burgers. And Fries. It's in the name, so it can't be wrong. The burgers, no matter what kind you get - come with an option to add anything/everything free of charge. It comes fresh off the grill just minutes after you order it - freshly wrapped, and steaming hot. There's a light crispy texture to the bun and patty, and it's finely put together so that it's not falling apart on you as you eat it. I also firmly believe that no matter what size of fries you get, they'll just dump it into the bag and give you more than what you paid for. They're that generous about it. Fresh fries that haven't been sitting around getting soggy. That's what I'm talking about. Atmosphere If you've ever watched the movie "Good Burger" on Nickelodeon, you'll have a general feel of what it's like. It's very down to earth. There's always people in here, and there's most likely someone waiting in line when you come in. Very lively. Staff Everything is cooked in front of you. There's a nice little chain gang working hard at making it quick and tasty. I appreciate them for that because I never see them complain, but instead make it look like a speed challenge. They deserve a bonus of some sort. Final Thoughts Speed and quality. Very few burger joints can offer that this side of the coast. Very good burgers and fries that are far too overpriced. My wife and I stopped in for lunch as I have heard a lot of positive comments. I had their regular bacon cheeseburger, which has two near 1/4 lb patties, and my wife had a "Little Cheeseburger", meaning just a single. We shared a medium fries and I had a bottled water. Total cost, $20. The burgers tasted great, available with a number of different free toppings. The toppings were fresh and complimented the burger. I opted just for the standard lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, ketchup, and mustard. They just pile the number of patties on the flat top grill as they are ordered. This looks to be problematic as it appears here is no real system to gauge the cook time of the patties. This was evident on my double where one patty was cooked to the advertised well done yet still juicy, while the second patty was closer to medium with noticeable pink color in the middle. It did not detract from the burger. But they should be more consistent with the cook time of the patties per order. The skin on fries were mighty tasty and in my opinion easily beat any other burger chain fry. They also offer free in shell peanuts. Not sure why, but people seemed to enjoy them. They offer a couple variations of their burgers, plus hotdogs, and grilled cheese sandwiches. The price is a detraction and would limit my visits. I would have to be in the immediate area for me to consider stopping in again. But they do offer a far better burger than you would get at any of the big three burger chains, McDonalds, Burger King, or Wendy's. read more

Yum! After hearing from friends about how lucky I was to be getting a Five Guys, I decided to check things out for myself. The menu essentially consists of three things: Burgers, Hot Dogs, and Fries. You can get your burger with bacon and/or cheese, same for the hot dogs -- as well as a bunch of the usual condiments and toppings. The fries are fantastic, hand-cut, thick, and salted. They actually taste like they are derived from potatoes. Burgers are huge, the standard burger is actually a double, so stick with the junior option if you're not into a big slab of cow. If you're not into cow at all, they do offer a grilled cheese and a grilled veggie sandwich option. The best part was the freshness. Everything I had was Note: Avoid this place if you have severe peanut allergies. The fries are cooked in peanut oil and they have loose bins of shell-on peanuts for you to munch on at the tables. read more

I found myself waiting for tires to get mounted a few doors down the road and it was lunchtime. Yup, it's good, but... Almost $13 for a burger, reg. fries and reg. coke?!? This is not fast food pricing. Yes, the burger is good. Yes, the fries are probably better than In-n-Out's. Let me clarify: some of the fries were good - the well-done ones, but about half of the fries in the cup were barely cooked and mushy. Bottomline is that it is a reasonable alternative to In-n-out. But, I could eat twice there for the price that five guys charges. If it were a few bucks cheaper, I'd be a regular customer. One other thing: the constant yelling between the cashier and the cooks gets a bit annoying. It was novel for about five minutes. read more

So happy they've finally opened a location in NH. Before, the only place to get a decent burger on the go was Gilley's in Portsmouth, so I'm delighted Five Guys have opened a location so close to home. Loved them when I first had it in DC, love it even more now! I went to this location the other night. It's in a new shopping plaza and even though they're the only store open in the plaza right now, the parking lot was packed and there was a line out the door. In spite of this, service was quick and efficient and the quality was exceptional as always. Only thing that I would change: cook the jalapenos. They're a little too harsh raw. read more

Only Five Guys I've been to but I'm impressed overall! Come here expecting the best, freshest fast food you've ever had! Fries are cut and made on site and you can taste it. Highly suggest trying the cajun fries. Even if there's a line they crank through it so don't let that discourage you when you pull up; they're always busy! Five Guys is all High Quantity and High Cost. It's essentially an automatically super-sized McDonald's or a lower quality Fuddrucker's without milkshakes. If you go with someone else (and you should), order a burger each and *split* the fries as they come in massive quantities. There are Cajun fries which many people like though I preferred the traditional ones. You'll see bags of potatoes stacked everywhere- guess where they go? :) It was novel and new in Nashua, but behind it's fame is an expensive burger. They were rated Best Priced in DC back in the early 2000's and haven't been there since. Expect to pay close to $30 for 2 people if you don't order carefully. Save the cash and hit Hayward's in Nashua instead. At least there you can get ice cream afterward. :-) read more

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars, but I am happy to round up as I really enjoyed our experience there. After all it is a fast food joint, so you go in not expecting too much, but it was pretty darn good food! We arrived fairly early with 2 toddlers in tow, hoping not to ruin too many people's meals. The place was pretty busy, even at 5PM on a Saturday, so I figured the food must be pretty tasty. As you can see on the website, their menu is limited to burgers, dogs, and fries (with a random grilled cheese thrown in for good measure). I do wish they had milkshakes (er, frappes for you New Englanders...sorry I'm from PA and can't get my mouth around the word frappe) to go with the artery clogging burgers and dogs. Maybe even just milk for the kiddos. They did have two highchairs which is always a plus for us, so after ordering our food, we were able to snag a table and sit in organized chaos until our food was served. The wait is a bit longer than typical fast food joints, but that's actually a good thing. They aren't microwaving your burger, they are actually COOKING it, on a flattop. And based on how many topping you like (I think I got everything but onions and BBQ sauce), they construct your idea of a perfect (fast food) burger. When we got our food, we were very pleased. It was much better than any other fast food joint in the area, and the toppings were very good. They even split and griddled the hotdogs that we got for the boys which is a nice touch for a hotdog. The fries were good, not great, but good and tasty with the burgers. If you are looking for a drive-thru and microwaved food, you won't find it here, but it does have decently priced fresh tasting burgers and fries.
