I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars, but I am happy to round up as I really enjoyed our experience there. After all it is a fast food joint, so you go in not expecting too much, but it was pretty darn good food! We arrived fairly early with 2 toddlers in tow, hoping not to ruin too many people's meals. The place was pretty busy, even at 5PM on a Saturday, so I figured the food must be pretty tasty. As you can see on the website, their menu is limited to burgers, dogs, and fries (with a random grilled cheese thrown in for good measure). I do wish they had milkshakes (er, frappes for you New Englanders...sorry I'm from PA and can't get my mouth around the word frappe) to go with the artery clogging burgers and dogs. Maybe even just milk for the kiddos. They did have two highchairs which is always a plus for us, so after ordering our food, we were able to snag a table and sit in organized chaos until our food was served. The wait is a bit longer than typical fast food joints, but that's actually a good thing. They aren't microwaving your burger, they are actually COOKING it, on a flattop. And based on how many topping you like (I think I got everything but onions and BBQ sauce), they construct your idea of a perfect (fast food) burger. When we got our food, we were very pleased. It was much better than any other fast food joint in the area, and the toppings were very good. They even split and griddled the hotdogs that we got for the boys which is a nice touch for a hotdog. The fries were good, not great, but good and tasty with the burgers. If you are looking for a drive-thru and microwaved food, you won't find it here, but it does have decently priced fresh tasting burgers and fries. It's about time that this town got a good "fast food" burger joint. (I call it fast food, as my last burger was served in under 2 minutes). You can go to Wendy's/Burger King/McDonalds, if that's your bent, and drop 99 cents on a burger, or go to a pub and spend $8 for a much better burger, but the middle ground was always wide open. Not anymore. I don't like giving this place 4 stars. I would give it 5 stars in the "fast food" category, or 3 stars for a general restaurant, but, like their prices and quality, 5 Guys fits somewhere in between. You get one kind of cheese: American. You get one cooking time: well done. And you get one flavor: good and greasy (in a comfort food kind of way). If that is what you are in the mood for, you can't beat this place, and you can scratch that itch for a bit over 4 bucks. I prefer to choose my cheese, choose my meat (bison is always good), and choose my cooking temp (med-rare); however, to get all that, I would need to go to Newmarket, and pay a tiny bit more (see Rocky's review). I'm a lazy, lazy man. So 5 Guys hits the spot more often than not. They are also known for their fries. One cannot fault the portions, when talking about their fries; which are, in fact, so large that I have started skipping them, for the sake of my health. The quality is hit or miss. Some days the fries are good, some days they seem dry and overcooked. Either situation is better than the standard fast food fare. All in all, I am glad that 5 Guys Burgers and Fries moved to town; they are one of the very few chains that get my thumbs up. read more

Got a take-out bacon cheeseburger from these guys for dinner tonight. Still under $10 for one burger, but I do think they might be a little more expensive than I might like for a bacon cheeseburger. Very tasty. Classic greasy burgers. Two beef patties on a regular burger. You can get a single patty burger if you ask. There are a fair number of toppings you can mix and match. Have eaten 5 Guys on Amherst starting within their first week. Always consistent and good. Last Thursday we did a Curbside pick-up order and it was an amazing cluster. First, arrived a few minutes early and made the first of 3 calls, saying we were there. We sat in the car watching as people went in and came out with their order while we waited. After being told 3 times they would bring it out within a minute we went in. Nope, not ready. I would say they then just tossed stuff in the bag since while we did get the fries we ordered absolutely everything else they tossed in the bag was not what we had ordered. The name mostly says it all, as there are usually more that five people working. The first thing is that the burgers are excellent! They are thin, well cooked, and juicy. The toppings can be whatever you want for no additional charge. (the exceptions are cheese & bacon). The fries are outstanding! The closest to state fair fries you can find outside of the fall. Full skins are still on the potatoes. But most importantly, they are cooked in Peanut Oil!!! Everything good is always cooked in Peanut oil. One small is more than enough for two people. And that links with my next point. As the place uses peanut oil, they have no worries about the "allergy police". They clearly say the place has peanuts everywhere. The have salted peanuts in the shell out for snacking. I love it! As I'm exhausted by these "Oh! My precious child may become discomforted by the mere smell of a nut" idiots dictating what I can eat and where. The service is reasonably fast for fresh cooked food. On my first trip, I had ordered the hot dog, and was blown away at how good it was. The only reason I've never ordered it again is that the burgers are yet even better. This place is DELICIOUS! I seen the occasional Five Guys in a few Airports before, but always took it as that... airport food. Never had the chance to give it a try, or for that matter, find a local joint to taste it. After seeing a review on Phantom Gourmet one morning though, I was sold - and knew I needed to give this place a try. I'm glad I did too!! For me, nothing beats fresh meat on a burger, instead of frozen pre-made patties. Meat the crumbles a bit while you're eating it, is a good sign in my eyes! Not to mention, I've always been the BIGGEST fan of hand cut/cooked fries that are fresh. So that was another great reason for it!! I went with the bacon burger, which I was glad to see is a 2 pattie burger... if you're looking for the single, then you're going to want to go with the little burger. I had no idea, but I'm glad it was a double (I usually prefer these anyway). I'm sure the bacon was microwaveable or something, but it didn't taste like it - in fact it tasted fresh. Burger wasn't dry - but wasn't greasy either, so I didn't end up with a mess in my hands. Their burgers (err.. not the meat) are made to order, and you can have them add a list of options on them (lettuce, pickles, etc) to include BBQ sauce! Buns are toasted a bit, which is great I think... and according to the Five Guys information, they cook all burgers well. No medium or anything like that... I don't even think you could special order it. Most likely just makes the cooking process easier for them, and no worries with undercooked meat. Either way I didn't really notice it in taste, I thought it was good actually. (And usually I order my medium) My only SLIGHT (and this is very slight) complaint, would be the lack of seasoning on the fries. I saw another review where they said it tasted like it was covered in salt, and for me it was the opposite... no salt or pepper. Again, this is a very minor complain because I can just add it - but prefer to have it ready to eat right out of the bag. You know? Finally got a chance to try this place...a while back, just had been lazy about getting this review up. So first off...huge line. I think I hit this on a Saturday, between lunch and dinner...and the place is packed. Hard to find a seat in that place. So first thing you'll notice is there are 1,398 bags of potatoes around the place. Being Irish...I already feel at home. Second thing you'll notice is 1,398 people behind the counter in red shirts furiously pumping out artery-cloggin goodness. Someone to take your order, someone to grill the patty, someone to cheese it up, someone to put it on a bun...then passed to someone who is responsible for the toppings you ordered...then the wrapper person...then passed to the fry guy/gal...then to the expeditor who makes sure you get the right sized cup and finally the guy who calls your number. Yup. A whole gaggle of geese. Usually one 30's-something Manager in a White shirt with red writing...surrounded by College and High school kids in Red shirts with white writing. So...now you fill your soda...hey, they offer Pibb. The burger...I got the cheeseburger...which is really a double cheeseburger...with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. So... Speakin' of Wendy's...this burger is good...and reminds me of Wendy's. Although it's better than Wendy's. The cheese x2 takes over the flavor of the burger...a very cheese whizzy taste...in fact, maybe another page taken from Wendy's. I was actually bummed...I maybe should have just gotten the hamburger just to try the burger and bun alone. Toppings are toppings...as long as the veggies are fresh and the condiments are the popular kinds, they're going to be somewhat uniform amongst the fast food giants. Well...segue to my next visit to this place. I DID get the burger this time...much better. That burger is pretty good. Now, I live in Billerica, MA...so this hike to Nashua won't be made too often. And Five Guys isn't a 5-star that would lead me up there in a zombie-like food trance...but should I ever run into a corner where 5-Guys is competing across from a McD's, a BK and a Wendy's, 5 Guys wins. Pricewise, maybe not...a bit pricier, but you are getting 2 sizable patties with your choice of toppings. A1 is even offered. As far as a comparison of burgers overall...the 4 star might be high. Let's face it...sometimes reviews are more rated on how much we want people to try the place. You'd need a more granular scale to really compare food versus food across the entire board. For example, none of the burgers at fast food joints hold a candle to the likes of some of the burger joints in Boston. So take my 4 star rating as versus other fast food burger joints...not burgers overall. An interesting experience. I ventured out on a rainy Saturday for what I've been told was the East Coast equivalent of In-N-Out. Upon entering I heard the cashier yell something to the line crew. Later I found out that he was announcing how many people were walking in the door, a heads up for the approximate amount of orders that would be coming. Good idea. My glazed expression must've easily read as "newbie", so I was given a quick rundown of the full menu and which toppings were free with the burger versus ones that would cost a little extra cheddah. I decided to go with the little bacon cheeseburger, all the way with no mustard. Small fries and a small drink for the final combo. $10.87 was swiped from my hot piece of plastic and I began to immediately wonder what I'd be getting for double the price of my fav West Coast burger joint. For starts, I was offered free peanuts while waiting for the meal. Again, a nice touch, but I'm not a salted peanut fan. I just took a couple for the hell of it. Not to mention the full meal I was about to embark on. Mr. Pibb was on tap...super bonus points! My number was called, and I was handed a large brown bag. I found that odd, since this is a sit down joint, with no drive-thru. I guess a lot of folks take their orders away, but I'm sure just as many eat right there, so why not a plate or tray? No big thing, just different. So the difference between the regular and the little burger is that the regular has two patties. The little has just one, but one is more than enough. All of the ingredients tasted very fresh and the meat has a nice slightly charred beefy grill taste. Very In-N-Out. The huge let down was the fries! Yes, they were fresh cut potatoes, but mine were very soggy and some were (shocker) undercooked! I have a feeling part of this has to do with the several baskets of fries just hanging above the prep area waiting for their hot oil bath. I don't think there's much time between cutting and cooking out west. They may not be totally crispy out there, but at least they are done every time. After eating, I walked back up front to watch the whole process. All the line cooks and prep folks shouting back and forth with different times and items. A very well oiled machine that slightly reminded me of an episode of Hell's Kitchen when the line is FINALLY talking to each other and orders are churning at a good pace. Upon leaving, the cashier yelled out that one was leaving and a few of the line folks thanked me for my patronage and waved good night. Another great touch in the customer service department! Had a craving for a burger and lo'-n-behold, there was this Five Guys right by our hotel; walking distance. Got a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, and jalapenos...oh so juicy good and satisfying. Caution order the smallest fries as they over fill the serving cup and the medium size actually feeds two people. Oh and if you like your fries more crispy, order them well-done. These burgers are freakin' DELICIOUS!!! I had never been here before, but my friends were ranting and raving about it, so we stopped here for a quick bite before heading to Spooky World (which was awesome by the way :-) Atmosphere wise, it's your typical fast food restaurant set up. Tables and chairs scattered about, with the fountain soda machines off to the side. The seasoning on the burger was perfection. The patty was thin, tender, and juicy. When I took the first bite, my taste buds rejoiced. I ordered a "Little Cheeseburger", which means it comes with only one patty, and ALL THE WAY toppings without the mushrooms. Although very delicious, it wasn't very filling - or maybe I was just really hungry. Either way, my friend and I decided to order some Cajun fries to split after we devoured our burgers. I am not one for spicy foods, but the Cajun fries weren't too spicy. They just had a bit of kick to them. They too, were delicious. I totally recommend this place to anyone who loves burgers. WHOA...stop the presses... my expectation going in...this was gonna be lousy to blech. And, well, there's something to be said for having a low expectation - cuz when you exceed it, you're happy. This place exceeded it. Ok, it's a standard fast food, chain place, BUT, the damn burgers are good! I kind didn't want to like it either, but, well, I liked it. I had the hamburger, which is two burger patties and some goodies on top, skipped the cheese, (I like actual cheese and usually places like this use the so called processed cheese, which is really some sort of protein slab colored cheese like). Loved th toppings, though, I will say the bun could be better, felt like a standard grocery store lousy soft white bun. Fries were awesome too...great potato taste, not greasy. The only real drawback to the place...no beer...man, I'd love a beer to top off this beef gluttony fest, but, well, I wasn't expecting it. So, if you want to grab some grub quick and are willing to sacrifice calories, fat, etc, this place is pretty damn good...for what it is. When I heard about 5 Guys and learned there was one in Nashua I was on board right away. Damn good burgers and the flavor of the fries is pretty gosh darn respectable. The pros? They also have malt vinegar in addition to ketchup of course. Toppings offered on the burgers were plentiful. You will pay more here than a fast food joint for a burger but it is worth it. read more

The Good: The food is beyond words excellent here. The large fries is big enough for two people! If you eat it all by yourself bring insulin. The Bad: Timing is everything here... make sure you beat the lunch rush or go after the lunch rush. On a rainy day you lose outdoor seating and inside becomes a three ring circus. If you are lucky enough to score a table people will be gathered standing right by your table waiting for their food. It gets kind of awkward and annoying with people so close to you while you are trying to eat. This is a very basic burger joint. Good ingredients and well made (delicious) burgers. The title of the company says it all, as there is little else. The prices are a little high for a meal (burger, fries, drink) compared to your typical establishment, but the food quality is great. I have been here only two times. After the first it became legendary to me and i had always tried to come back, but never seemed to find my way. Now several years later, I brought my 80 yr old father here to grab a delicious lunch. I was surprised and disappointed to find a few things had suffered over the years. The coke machine, which I had always thought was very cool, was out of several of the flavors we wanted. Then tried to sit down but almost every table hadn't been wipes and had crumbs all over it. I might be a bit harsh towards Five Guys because as usual my friend's habits of over-hyping took it's usual effect as I was completely underwhelmed by Five Guys. Inside the store is typically something of a zoo, with crates of potatoes and peanuts occupying space that could be better utilized for fitting in customers so less people are waiting out the door in the harsh fall weather. (Total senior citizen thing to say I know.) Though it's nice to see your order made through the entire time, as I tend not to trust the hooligans working at most fast food spots, so I know I get what I ordered. For the price they charged the amount of bacon seemed negligible on my burgers, and other than that I didn't find them particularly favorable. The fries are hearty and they gave you a heaping amount, but I made the mistake of ordering Cajun fries that came with an overwhelming amount of spices. It's not by any means a bad place to eat, a noticeable upgrade from the fast food monotony New England has been cursed with for years, but didn't live up to the hype. read more

We sent one of the girls to pick it up, pre-ordered and paid for all on one card so as not to be a pain. Don't waste your time!! Don't waste your Money!! The overall " burger " consisted mostly of bread and condiment. Nothing spectacular. I liked the handmade patty aspect of it-- but they were small and formed unevenly (thick in the center and pinched thin around the edges) needless to say- the edges were burnt and crispy. Yuck! The fries were alright- but after hearing raving reviews of both the quality and the quantity Five Guys supposedly delivers... we left completely unsatisfied...and still hungry. Five guys have one of the best burger and fries of any fast food chain. The burgers are fresh and juicy. The fries are very crispy and fresh too. The staff at this location is very helpful. Their fries size is a little too big and I always end up wasting some. I would hope that they start offering smaller sizes too. In all, a great place to get a burger. read more

I don't understand why people like this place so much. I have been to this location three times and each time the fries have been terrible - to the point where I wonder what they do to make them so greasy and mushy? They are obviously only frying them once instead of twice, which is a common mistake, but they must also be frying at way too low a temperature as well. As for the burgers, like all fast food joints, they are all cooked to well done and are quite greasy, not juicy (there's a difference, for a burger to be juicy, it has to be cooked to medium or less). Personally, I just assume not eat a burger if it has to be cooked to death. Looks like you get 2 patties that probably weigh somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 of a pound before cooking and a pretty basic choice of toppings for around $7.00. Add their terrible french fries and a small soda and you're up to $11.74 for a very mediocre lunch. By comparison, there is a family owned restaurant near my office that does a 10 oz. Creekstone Farms bacon cheese burger cooked to desired doneness with decent french fries for about $11.00 picked up. Meanwhile Five Guys is serving a product that is inferior to McDonald's in many ways for more money. I think it's their phony, down-home cutesy atmosphere and packaging that lets them get away with it. read more
