    12oz ribeye with baked potato

Most people may not know this. But there was a small portion of my life where I lived in Oklahoma (those were dark times). Well anyways, just outside of town, there was this Texas Roadhouse. I'll never forget it because on one of my long road trips back home, I stopped in for a rib eye. Well, let's just say that ended up being my second biggest regret of the year. I had briefly contemplated seeking medical aid for the incessant Hershey squirts I was experiencing. But, I digress. All of this is to say...we have a bit of history, this rib eye and I. But when it comes to a place like the big TR, you generally know what you're getting. Simple, baseline steaks that can be produced at a rapid pace. And so...I thought to myself, "Self, maybe you oughta give the rib eye another chance. Maybe it will be good this time. Just maybe..". Ah...eh....guys....it was average, at best. So, here's something that nobody understands. How is it that a team of chefs somehow manage to produce a rib eye (a cut of meat that is meticulously marbled with buttery flavor via the fat traces) that is also mysteriously blander than it should be? I dunno either. But these guys did it. But, wait....that's not even the worst part. The worst part is that 40% of the steak was unchewable. Yeeeeaaah....there's nothing more pathetic than cutting into a seemingly juicy steak, only to discover that a little less than half of it consists of rubbery fat and inedible nerve endings. If it weren't for the 60% of edible beef that WAS there, along with the savory mushrooms and onions on top, I'd have sent it back in exchange for the filet. 6 out of 10 for the overall dish. Note to self (and others): stick with the Dallas filet. Honestly, the sides outperformed the main course. But that's consistency for ya. I mean, how do you f*¢k up a potato and salad? ¯\_( ° °)_/¯ Like I said in the beginning, those who come to a place like TR know exactly what they're getting. Nothing more, nothing less (hopefully). It is what it is. And I'm giving Texas Roadhouse in Nashua 3 anemically seasoned rib eyes out of 5.

    Prime rib

This location seems overwhelmed by medium occupancy, there was adequate staff, but they just couldn't pull it together. Took forever to get, silverware, drinks, appetizers. Mixup's between our waitress and the kitchen. My prime rib was very overcooked- I asked for medium. Refills were requested, then offered, but never showed up. Not impressed for 7 pm on a Sunday.

It was so salty. Everything was salty yet somehow lacked flavor at the same time. Also the food was cold. Waitress was nice enough.

This is their first yelp review in almost 4 years ... what's that about?…read more Anyways, I've been trying to sample their food for almost 2 years now and it's been impossible because they've been private catering exclusive for about that long now. Im glad they are doing so well but the thing is that if a food truck is doing this good that it is booked for private catering pretty much every week of the year, then by god they better have something special! So I keep checking their Facebook posts to see if they are ever going to offer a public date. They hardly ever post anything on their Facebook. And even when they do it's just teasing because it's stuff that I can't get unless I book them for myself. Finally a post comes along in July 2021 "We'll be at the Grass Drags!" in October. I had it written on my wall so I would never forget. I've never been to the grass drags but I was determined to get their BBQ. I didn't look into it, shame on me, but apparently I had to get a ticket to get in. Place must have been just as busy, if not MORE, as the friggin Big E! I think it was $20 a ticket, so I had to cough that up for me and my girl. $40 down the drain already. Oh and that was after the mile long walk to get into the place. We found the Hickory Stix truck easily enough only to find out that ... all they had were pulled meat sandys ... and some sides ... no sliced brisket, no ribs (you know ... the things that imply the name "Hickory Stix") Im sorry, when I want to taste the art of a BBQ place I need to eat their Ribs at bare minimum. Sliced Brisket is Second. Pulled stuff if there is nothing else, I don't ever EVER EVER Need it on a Sandwich! And yet that's all they had. So they had like a slider sampler combo, like a pulled Chicken slider, a pulled Pork slider, and chopped Brisket slider. And some Mac and Cheese and Beans. And that was something stupid expensive I can't even remember. And thinking my girl doesn't usually eat this stuff and there is tons of other food options around that I KNOW she'll like ... She waits till I'm about to pay for my order and she orders a pulled chicken sandwich ... And I can't make a big deal out of it in front of everyone so I have to dish out another $20 or whatever. So I've pretty much spent $100 now and I didn't even get to taste the one thing I thought I was going to get. Naturally she only eats about 1/3 of her sandwich which was the size of the slider that I got and I didn't even want to eat it. Short review time. All the meat was cold, but nothing gross, Beans were okay, Mac and cheese was excellent, Cornbread was meh, Slaw was terrible, done. Oh! And then my girl wanted lemonade and a caramel apple and candied nuts and french fries and friggin jerk chicken over rice that she took 2 bites of and said she didn't want it anymore ....... I spent about $200 that day for nothing. Tried to enjoy the grass drags and water drags for about a minute just so I could get something out of the day .... and then she complained it was too loud and wanted to leave ..... So anyways, I'm single now.

The BBQ platter included three sliders, beans, cornbread, and one other side (mac-n-cheese). The BBQ was good, what you could taste, as they put a tiny little speck of meat on the hearty buns. They certainly could have been more generous with the BBQ at ~ $4/sampler. I added some of their sauce to my sliders and it was flavorless - a brown liquid that wasn't sweet, sour, or tangy. The beans were a bit spicy and quite good (contained pineapple - a nice touch) and the corn bread fresh and moist. The mac-n-cheese was dry, luckily they only included about half a teaspoon of this side.

First off, the staff are SO friendly here! The bar lady who was describing the specials to me seemed wicked eager about a few of them. I wondered if she had practiced that speech in front of a mirror every night before bed. Or perhaps she really does love those specials (even though I can't remember what they are at the moment). Next, we have the interior. Now....a brief background for the non-locals not familiar with the history of this location: In the not too distant past, this place used to be called "Donna's Place", which was subsequently shutdown for reasons unbeknownst to me. However, the general layout is similar to its predecessor; with the exception of the table rearrangements. They ostensibly retained the bar and even threw in a few add-ons to the overhead. Also, just a caveat when you first arrive: you have to use the side entrance instead of the one facing the street. Okay. We gotta talk about the coffee real quick. While the roast itself presents a nice bold flavor, I gotta tell ya....this coffee mug is HUUUUUGE!! I swear to you they bring out like, a bucket of coffee. Thing must be at least 16 ounces! I took a picture of it next to a standard size sugar container for comparison. Friggin' HUUUUUUGE! So far, my all time go-to breakfast is the build your own omelet with cheddar cheese, tomato, and onions with a side of homefries and toast. I've had this combo with and without ham, plus a side of bacon. But I was really curious about the infamous homemade hash. And so it was. I'm still the misfit who prefers canned hash over homemade. However, this one exceeded my expectations. Ordinarily, I'm forced to get used to the trend of homemade hash consisting of shoe-leathery brisket mixed with potatoes, all of which is typically bland. But not this hash. GP's hash is surprisingly well seasoned and tender! It's strange, but almost like a combination of canned and homemade. The corned beef is minced similarly like canned, only with a different texture. It's tricky to explain to folks unfamiliar with hash. All I'm saying is....definitely give this one a try. The omelets here are phenomenal! That's all there is to say, really. Sure, they could be seasoned up a bit (along with the potatoes). But this is the restaurant biz. Chefs have to play it safe when it comes to salt, after all. As many know, I'm always down for supporting my local hot spots. And this one will certainly remain a continual revisit for moi. Therefore, I'll give The Good Place 5 sensationally built omelets with all the fixins and a side of hash out of 5.
