Ok much like In and Out I don't get the hype. It's a mediocre burger at best. As everyone else does if you compare it to In and Out, Five Guys barely loses on the burger front but wins on fries. I liked their thick cut fries and you could really taste the potato but they got a little soggy. Might have done better to let it fry for another minute. The burger was decent but I think they just slap on cold cheese when they assemble the burger. Essentially you end up with a lukewarm burger and unmelted cold cheese. This seems to be a common observation with other reviewers. If in the area and I wanted something a step up from Mcdonalds I'd go here but I wouldn't make it a point to go out of my way for this. read more

OMG. The burgers. So many calories. So much deliciousness. The burgers here really are incredible. I, personally, think the fries are totally average, but then again, I don't think anyone comes here for the fries. The seasoned fries are good though. The shop itself is a bit of a downer. Dear God I love a good burger, and this place never lets me down. Ambiance: Typical of every Five Guys. Casual, peanuts at entrance, and red themed. Service: My service here was EXCELLENT. Very attentive, the cashier praised me on every topping I added, and I got my super greasy half-translucent bag with a great smile. Did I mention I love a good burger? Food: The patties here are much thicker than the ones you get at In-n-Out and there's never any question, you get two. First, a lady cut in front of me, so rude and didn't wven ask if I was in line. She then ordered a bunch of burgers and fries and drinks for her family. Which pissed me off more, only because I wanted 1 thing and her order would make me wait longer. Second, I ordered a little bacon cheese burger. I really love bacon, and was very hungry. They called out her order and my order, that woman's kid got their order. I went and did errands and went home to eat my burger. Turns out there was no fucking bacon. WTF. WHERE'S MY DAMN BACON?! What can I say abouts these guys? The burgers are good and I mean its unlimited toppings for Pete's sake! And the French fries are freaking excellent to boot! I've had s hot dog and while it tasted fine the price made it feel kinda steep but I totally forgive them on that because the ingredients they use are too notch. The only reason they are not getting 5 stars is...well the price is pretty steep even if you get s small burger ya know? Without a drink I'm spending at least 15. The fries were some of the nastiest I've ever had (EVER). Too soggy, too salty, just wrong. Whatever oil they are using is wrong. Those got thrown away quickly. And the "little" fries cost me $2.29? WTF man. The bacon cheeseburger... the meat is bland and unseasoned, I couldn't taste the bacon (not cooked to order, BTW), and the cheese tasted like a cross between American cheese (product) and Cheez Wiz. Ehhh. Not coming back. Granted, you should take my review with a grain of salt as it is a vegetarian review of a burger joint, but even In N Out manages to make me a veggie option (grilled cheese) that I like. Here the veggie sandwich was just baaaad. The burger was smushed into a spherical shape (like a softball) by the food handler behind the counter. Plus the buns were cold on the outside, warm on the inside, and then the veggie filling was half warm and half cold. Usually come here for lunch with co-workers. I order the double cheeseburger (big burger) with everything and medium fries, Cajun style! No shakes here, which stinks. I get my food pretty quick. The fries are really good here. The burger, well, it's good, but I think it's over priced. I like In In Out burgers because it's not complicated. Meat, lettuce, tomato, meat, cheese, and sauce. I think five guys just made the burger to complicated with all these extra toppings you can add, which is cool, but it doesn't enhance the burger. in my opinion. The meat isn't special, neither is the bun or anything else. So, charging over six bucks for a burger when you can go to In In Out and order two cheeseburgers animal style with chillies for less than five bucks, makes much more sense. But hey, I still like the place, I've had no problem with the service, but I don't like the fact that you will spend over ten bucks on a burger, fries, and a drink for an average burger. This place has pretty tasty burgers. The patties are large and you can add just about any topping with no extra charge, including jalapeños, mushrooms, pickles, etc. The Cajun fries are spicy and delicious, but can take a while to cook (mine took 15 min). I was disappointed at the assembly of my bunless burger. The lettuce was not wrapped neatly but like in small pieces, making it exceptionally difficult to try and hold. It's not good as Fatburger, better fries than In-N-Out, similar (I think better, some think worse) burger as In-N-Out. This location is small for the amount of business it does. It's can get pretty tricky moving around when it's full. Similar menu and order style to In-N-Out, only a few items with a few option. The fries are awesome. Even a small order is huge and they're just better than most fast food fries I've had. They offer free peanuts while you wait, but the wait is so quick I think these just end up adding to the mess on the tables and floor. read more

I'm torn about how to rate this place. This was my long awaited first experience with Five Guys. I ordered the Little Cheeseburger, "All the Way", but no mayo, no ketchup. I got the Little because they're regular burgers are double patty. I got the burger after a few minutes (they make them fresh) and lo! it had ketchup on it. My receipt clearly said no ketchup, so I went to the cashier and she said they would remake it for me right away and the mistake burger was mine to keep or throw away (I ended up giving it to some teen boys so it didn't go to waste). Then about a minute later the person who actually made my burger came and gave it to me and wished me a nice day. So this was unexpected and a really nice thing to happen after a mistake was made. They redeemed themselves there! The burger itself was better than your average fast food burger, but it wasn't so spectacular. The meat and bun were pretty good, but I know I won't be craving it later in the week. I can make a pretty amazing burger at home, which makes my standards a bit higher if I'm actually going to pay for one. I agree that the fries are better than In-N-Out fries. They're bigger cut, more potato-tasting in a good way, and they stayed crispy even after they'd been sitting on the table for a while. Whereas, with In-N-Out fries they taste bad after sitting out for a short period of time. I read that they could be over salted here at Five Guys, but mine had no salt on them, so I have no clue why the other person's fries were over salted. I know I won't be dying to come back, but if I'm in the mood for a burger, this place may come to mind. I do like how they handled my wrong order and they were very nice about the whole thing. Third time I give this place a try and sadly probably the last. I ordered using the Five Guys app (which is great, btw). Hubby went to pick the orders (different days, different weeks, but always at night) and all the times the fries were practically burned. The burger was flavorful but the bacon. .. again tasted like it was burned. Same flavor as the fries. .a kind of old burned too. Not sure if the oil is being recycled too many times or if the night crew just doesn't care or know how to cook fries properly. I kept making excuses because I know crews can be new and it takes time to learn. But it stinks when I'm hungry and expecting a yummy burger and fries and get....something else that is not even satisfying. :( Next time I'll either go to the Belmont one (which never seems to let down) or to the new burger place down the street (it can't be worse than this). read more

I stopped by here right after completing jury duty for the day on 12/2/14 between 415pm and 445pm. Just wanted some peace and quiet while I enjoyed an overpriced burger. It was my first time eating at Five Guys and wanted to try them out. San Mateo County pays $15 per day for jury duty service so why not spend it all at the Five Guys on one meal. Total bill came to about $14 with a bacon cheeseburger, fries and coke. But I'm not complaining about the bill and the food was ok. I'm complaining about the manager named "Bob" who kept on harassing everyone in the store while they ate their food. From across the restaurant, he screams to me, "Hey how about you, you doing ok, you need anything?" What I need is some quiet time and privacy while I'll eat my meal, which is why I sat as far away from the employee counter and in the corner of the restaurant. Didn't come here to chat and socialize with the employees about nonsense stuff. If I need extra condiments, I'll go to the ketchup dispenser. So I gave him the "shhh" sign with a finger to the lips and signal that I'm doing fine. You'd think it would stop there and he'd get the hint. Nope. A few minutes later, I go to get a soda refill near the counter and he's giving me suggestions like, "You should try the raspberry flavored coke." But not with a helpful tone of voice. More like a smart ass tone of voice because I shrugged him off minutes earlier when he shouted to me across the restaurant. Well, I didn't take his suggestion, got plain coke instead and he's right behind me, practically feet away saying, "What's wrong, not gonna try it" and "Oops" with a laugh when I accidentally spill my coke because he's right behind me shouting suggestions. The remaining time I'm there finishing my fries and coke, "Bob" and his coworkers are back behind the counter glancing at me and laughing. I finally go up to him before I leave and ask why he's trying to be the center of attention and can't a customer enjoy a meal without being harassed. Wasn't just me and the other customers were wondering WTF was this "Bob" guy doing shouting in the restaurant. Perhaps he was trying to be helpful in a funny way. But the environment he created in the restaurant had more of a hostile and juvenile overtone to it. Will definitely not be coming back to this location again. Perhaps this is the culture at all Five Guys restaurants. If so, I will just continue patronizing the In-N-Out as I don't need lip service from ass hats at the Five Guys. For a fast food burger place, you can taste the quality in the patties. I recommend getting one patty just because two tend to dry out the burger, or else ask for some extra sauce. I am absolutely fraught with disappointment right now. I remember Five Guys being so good when I had it in Newport Beach. This time it was just....average. I don't know if it was because my expectations were so high or because people have been raving about it but I am disappointed after waiting so long for them to open. From an operational standpoint: I had a big order that I ordered online. Their online ordering process is sound. My order was accurate and it was given to me on time. In side the store was another story. It was absolute chaos. There was no organization what so ever. It seemed like everyone was just running around. Don't get me wrong, everyone was really nice but the chaos made me feel very uncomfortable. I also think they need to have two different teams, one for on site customers and one for online ordering. This way, they won't be splitting their time between both orders. Although, it kind of makes sense if their online ordering is new and they don't have as many people ordering online. But eventually I would like to see one team dedicated to online ordering. Another thing I took issue was with the way they packaged our food. Now, if it were me, since I ordered 3 fries, I would have made a fry bag and a hamburger bag. Hamburgers go in one bag, fries go in another. How hard is that? They threw the fries all over the burgers which made everything all greasy. That was really annoying and it made no sense. The food was, bleh to say the least. Hamburgers were under cooked, cheese wasn't melted, bread was soggy and the fries were bland. Not as exciting as I remember. I kept eating the fries hoping they would taste good but they never did. Just empty and wasted calories. The cajun fries were way to spicy. Don't believe the hype on this one guys. It's a cross between a fat burger and one of those Joe's Burgers #172. I work in RWC so going to Five Guys could easily be a five days a week habit. Fortunately I have more self control. I almost ordered a regular cheeseburger the first time I came here not realizing its a double cheeseburger. They can make your burger protein style, big points there. I'd rather leave room for the fries than eat a bun! Love all the toppings they offer, too! WARNING: the food is messy so I wouldn't recommend coming here on a first date...or dates 2-5 unless you feel comfortable looking like a caveman when you eat. Other yelpers have said this and I agree: Milkshakes!!! If I'm going to splurge in my calorie count for the week I at least want some sweet, creamy goodness to wash down all the salt. I like this location more than the others I've tried on the peninsula, it just seems to have a better vibe. The staff seems happy to be there and are friendly. The food seems to be ready faster here like a burger time warp. They are constantly making sure everything is clean and they have the cool soda machine with so many choices it hurts your brain. Don't be fooled by the sizes. The "little" burger size is really a normal size burger and the regular size is really a double patty. Best of all, Five Guys has bacon, and everything is better with a little pig. read more

I was just trying to kill time and this eatery just so happened to be near where I was parked. Figured I'd get something small, a grilled cheese sandwich, and ate it. It was greasy and juicy, and of course I'd get this again. Went to the restroom and saw oodles of articles and ads about the joint, that it's known for their fries. So of course I had to get some fries. Ordered a medium. And WOW it was pretty amazing. Perfectly cooked, a nice crisp on the outside and salted just right. The service was good, nothing amazing. I noticed open boxes of roasted peanuts all laid out..you can help yourself to them. Pretty cool they let you snack on that for FREE! I didn't bother getting a burger, but hope to the next time! All the "great" reviews on the walls are from 07-08 I don't know if five guys has gone downhill since then but my burger was soaked in oil and flavorless unless it's supposed to taste like oil and only oil. This place is just a disappointment. Growing up with Five guys in Virginia, the atmosphere in this joint is just dead. The workers look disinterested and could care less about what they are doing. few things that threw flags for me: -I came in on a dead hour and found there were no more ketchup cups left. when i asked they said they didn't have anymore. not only that the ketchup dispensers had gnats flying out of the spouts. That is gross. - next is when you ordered a regular fries it is barely any difference from the small order and on top of that they didn't even put in the extra scoop! Like what?! that is one of Five Guys biggest selling points. I came in yesterday and it's my first time I've been to any 5 Guys. The place was clean and was busy with lots of local folks who works in the area. By studying the menu, I have bacon cheeseburger, large fries and a soda. To my surprise, it came out to $15 something, dang!! As I came to the soda machine, I had to navigate the variety of different kinds of soda they offered and it was plenty!! As my order came, it was plenty and loved the burger!! It took me awhile to realize that "five guys" is a burger place and NOT a Mexican restaurant. I finally decided to give them a try. I ordered a mini cheeseburger and it's not quite "mini", it looks like a regular burger. I had everything on it. Usually I am not a fan of onions, mustard or pickles. But the onions were grilled (my favorite style) and I didn't want to seem picky so if I disliked the pickles, I can always take them out. It was delicious and of course I ordered fries and just ate half. Not that they weren't good but I didn't need to eat all of it. I'm afraid to see what a REGULAR cheeseburger looks like.
