Jeffrey's has the best burger bowl. It's a salad with a hamburger patty made your way, medium rare for me. The lemon vinaigrette dressing goes well with sliced cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and onions. The crispy string onions is my favorite part. I forgot to add the avocado and bacon on my second trip, extra charge, but it was still good. The family enjoyed their patty melt, cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, and Oreo milkshake. Onions rings were good and so were the fries. We're not sure why but the fries are a bit better at Five guys. You order it from the counter and they bring it to your table or booth. First timer here at Jeffrey's and won't be the last. Hubs and I were craving a good burger and popped in to Jeffrey's. We were welcomed by the cashier who was patiently waiting for us as we decided what to get. It would have been a great plus if we received recommendations since there were several choices and after we stated it was our first time at restaurant. Hubs ordered a cheeseburger and I ordered a turkey burger. Of course we ordered a shake to share. Our food was delivered with a smile and cooked to perfection. My only complaint was the turkey burger was a bit bland but after adding salt and pepper it was amazing. You can definitely tell it was not a frozen patty. Hubs happily enjoyed his burger and loved the pickles. The shake, oh my! It was strawberry and scrumptious! We also ordered the garlic fries which were-ho hum tasteless so we doused them in ketchup and pepper. The restaurant kinda gives you a 50's vibe with fun motif but not over done. It was very clean and attracted diverse clientele. One aspect that gives me a sour vibe is when I see cashiers or cooks chewing and drinking in the cooking area and wiping their mouths with their arm. When "Hamburgers" is in the name of a restaurant, I expect that the burgers are going to be star of the show. But it turned out that I kept reaching for the garlic fries more. The Garlic fries were topped with freshly chopped garlic tossed with parmesan cheese. But the thing that made this garlic stand out is that they didn't bother frying it up in oil. They left it raw which made the garlic super potent and strong. We loved it with their crisp on the outside soft on the inside fries. Can we also have a moment for the Oreo Milkshake? It was just the right amount of liquid--- not super dense that you needed to have an extra spoon on the side to eat it. It was sip- able from the beginning with lots of Oreos blended in. As for the burger, we had a Patty melt served on light rye bread with melted swiss cheese and grilled onions. The boyfriend wanted an extra patty but then regretted it after he said it really only needed one. Boys will be boys. While this was good, there was nothing that really made me pick this over the garlic fries. As for me: I had the Hamburger Bowl which was a Burger Patty over Spring Mix Greens Tossed in Lemon Vinaigrette with Carrots, Cucumbers, Tomato and Red Onion topped with Crispy Onion Strings. I appreciated the salad option and the lemon vinaigrette was just right- it didn't drown the salad in dressing like I've had happen in the past. The patty added in for protein was great and made this salad more of a treat than anything else. Add in the crispy onion rings and these gave it a nice crunch. Saw this place recommended on Reddit (tho the San Mateo one) so we decided to try it out on our way home from Great America. The bacon cheeseburger is decent. Nothing special to write home about. It's the chocolate shake and chili cheese fries that were bangers and would have me coming back here. They were very generous with the shake, too. I do like the mix of ordering at the register and having the food served to you as opposed to being a straight up diner with wait service. Speaking of diner, they definitely got the old school diner aesthetics going on. Price wise, is probably what you'd expect. You'll also be instantly reminded you're in silicon valley because all of the patrons around you are talking loudly on APIs and what not, even on a Saturday. Good grief, take a break people! I love hamburgers, but I will say I was a bit disappointed because despite the good reviews, I read, I didn't feel like the meat was seasoned to my liking. Personally, when I eat a hamburger, I want the meat to speak for itself and the toppings to complement the burger. Unfortunately, the meat itself was not seasoned to my taste. I added some extra sauce to make it tastier. I did add extra jalapeños, and I did feel like that made a bit of a difference. I would just recommend that they work on their seasoning for their meat. I moved to this area years ago and always drove by Jeffrey's on my drives down El Camino, but never found a reason or opportunity to try this spot out. Recently though I decided to take my toddler out for a little Mommy & Me date and since we needed to run a Trader Joe's errand, we found the nearest playground at Burgess Park to play at before looking for a fun toddler-friendly dining establishment. This is how we chanced upon Jeffrey's as an option on my Yelp search. There's a decent, medium sized lot behind the restaurant. Bonus is that it's right next to the CalTrain tracks, and there's a bit of a clearing between the bushes for a toddler-sized train fanatic to see all the trains whiz by. The lot was also filled with some pretty awesome cars (it ranged between classic cars to even a Porsche Boxster and a Lambo) that a toddler-sized car fanatic enjoyed (well okay, he's easily impressed, but so am I). It's a typical canonical diner with the iconic red booths and menu offerings. The place feels extremely inviting. I can also attest that the bathroom is very clean and spacious (tiny toddler bladders and icky hands). The dining area is similarly spotless and extremely spacious with lots of tables and booths to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to see that the booths are in pretty pristine condition. I'm used to seeing some other establishments with cracks in the cushions or duct taped over, so this definitely added to the awesome factor. When you first enter, you see a counter under the menu boards with multiple attendants to take your order up front. Our person was very friendly, helpful, and patient. He was also very helpful when we first ordered a chocolate milkshake, and then we realized afterwards that a milk was included with the kid's meal. Since the kiddo picked chocolate milk, the attendant inquired if we still wanted the chocolate milkshake given the similar overlap. And while we specifically came for the treat, I genuinely appreciate checking that with us first. The only bummer to the interaction was that later looking at the receipt, we were charged for the chocolate milk, so maybe I misunderstood the menu and a milk is not included with the kid's meal? Altogether, we had ordered: 1) Burger bowl w/ cheese, 2) Single order of fries, 3) Kid's cheeseburger + milk + apples, 4) Chocolate milkshake, and 5) Soda cup. My 3 year old was able to inhale half his decently sized burger (it's a kid's meal but it's not any smaller than what a grownup would get), so it is picky kid-approved! My burger in my bowl was perfectly cooked to medium, and was a delicious slightly lighter version of getting my burger fix (only slightly lighter given the heaping pile of fried onions up top). The greens were incredibly fresh, not a single wilted lettuce leaf in sight. All in all, Jeffrey's is now on our family's radar as a great place to take the kids for a fun meal out, and I'm glad it is not just a pin on my Yelp wish-list any longer. read more

We might have our new go-to burger place. We had a pineapple teriyaki burger and a double cheese. The burgers are delicious, juicy and a good size as well with fresh ingredients. We also had the chili fries with lots of cheese and chili all throughout - instead as other places where you get a tiny dollop just to cover the top, wish there was some fresh scallions with it though and it would have been perfect. Solid 4 stars! Finally got to try Jeffrey's Hamburgers after hearing my friend talk about it the last year. Although his favorite location is the one in downtown San Mateo, I was closer to the Menlo Park branch. Located right off El Camino, there's plenty of parking in the private lot along and behind the restaurant. We got there just after it opened at 11AM on a Sunday morning and there were already a few customers inside. Upon entering, you're instantly transported to a "back in the day" diner. Not quite the same feeling as Lou's Cafe in Back to the Future but definitely a diner look and feel. The friendly cashier greeted us upon entering and quickly took our order. The menu was clear and easy to follow, unlike some establishments where there's just too much and is overwhelming. The prices are reasonable and fair. Our order was ready after about 10 minutes. We ordered the following: -Basket of fries - These were good but I felt that they were a tad overcooked. Some fries were hard or crunchy. -Two plain cheeseburgers and a bacon cheeseburger - All the burgers were cooked a perfect medium as requested. The patties were well-seasoned with a nice grill flavor. There was a generous amount of bacon, lettuce and tomatoes on mine. -Milkshakes - strawberry, vanilla, Oreo cookie - The kids enjoyed the shakes and said it was one of their favorites.
