One word of warning: arrive with an empty bladder and a working relationship with patience, because the restroom line moves like it is being reviewed by a committee. Das Bierhauz is located right next to the VTA and Caltrain station, which makes it a very practical stop before heading to a game at Levi's Stadium. There is shaded outdoor seating and indoor seating, but this place fills up fast. Do not show up late and expect the universe to hand you a table. The universe has other appointments. The beer selection is very good. We got there around 6 PM before the Austria vs. Jordan World Cup match, and the stouts were already sold out. That tells you two things: people know what they are doing here, and you may need to move with purpose. Order the huge 20 oz glass if you want to have fun. It is not subtle. It announces itself. Food-wise, the combination appetizer is a strong move for a group of three or four. It comes with hummus, crushed eggplant, olives, a cucumber-yogurt-style dip, and other Mediterranean support staff. For the main dish, I recommend the veal knockwurst with fries. It was simple, filling, and did its job without trying to explain itself. The ordering system is where things get a little loose. Seating is basically self-directed, which means the bold inherit the tables. The line to order can feel scattered, although the menu is clearly posted above the cashier. You order, pay, receive one of those coaster number things, then sit down and trust that civilization will continue. To their credit, the staff found us with the beer and food without incident. There were TVs everywhere showing Argentina vs. Algeria, and with the international crowd in the room, the energy was like getting electrocuted by friendly aliens experimenting on how to make adrenaline surges in the body lightning fast. Loud, lively, and just the right amount of chaotic. Overall, I would give Das Bierhauz a 4 out of 5. I would not want to be here when it is absolutely packed, mostly because the queue system could become chaotic like a school of fish in a class on how to properly get into an auto accident. If you want some schnitzel for a decent price, Das Bierhauz is the spot. Our table primarily ordered the chicken schnitzel and veal schnitzel which comes with mushroom cream sauce, spatzle, and lingonberry jam. Schnitzel was perfectly golden and the spatzle had a similar taste to mac n cheese. We also ordered the calamari and fried cauliflower apps, they were just okay. We had a large party of 15+ people and took up a couple tables. Staff were very friendly though and accommodated all our requests. The table behind us was a bit rowdy, but I guess that's supposed to happen when you mix German beer with the World Cup and a bunch of college boys. The potato cakes that calm with the rouladen were surprisingly good, but the rouladen itself was a bit dry - it needed to be drenched in the gravy. After the FIFA match between Mexico and Ecuador, my boyfriend and I were looking for a spot to grab a beer, and Das Bierhauz was nearby. We usually hit up places around 9 pm, which is past their food service hours, but they were super accommodating and let us in for drinks, which was really nice of them. This spot used to be La Tartine, a charming French cafe known for coffee and pastries. I'm not sure when the change happened, but it's now Das Bierhauz, and it definitely caters to a German crowd. Went here and fell in love. It's across from the movie theatre so look for parking in the garage or outside lots. Flights are 3 beers but larger pours, the pretzel is smaller, and you must get the cheese with it. Also ordered the Currywurst with Pork and the Jager-Schnitzel with Veal. Both were amazing but the Jager-Shnitzel stole the show. From the creamy mushroom to dipping the Pretzel bread into the jam. We had to get to go boxes to stop from filling our bellies. We enjoyed a late-ish lunch here Friday before seeing a movie at the Cinemark across the street. We were greeted warmly and chose a two-top by the window. There were also plenty of tables to sit outside (uncovered). The German beer selection is serious and exciting. I ordered a half litre of Gaffel Kolsh ($8.95), and it was delicious and a great accompaniment to my chicken noodle soup and salad. My friend had a Diet Coke, served cold in the can but with a stein, so that was extra fun. For our lunches, I had the side salad (fresh greens, grape tomatoes, carrots, red onions) dressed with a light vinaigrette (a good value at $3.95). My small bowl of chicken noodle soup ("Schenelle Nodlesuppe") wasn't the heartier soup I was hoping for, but it was absolutely authentic (a bouillon-based chicken noodle with broken, thin spaghetti-like noodles, chopped vegetables, and some diced chicken, $10.95). It did taste good but pretty much like a Campbell's chicken noodle soup with skinnier, more al-dente noodles. Because the description mentioned "spaetzel", I was hoping for the spaetzel dumplings I was familiar with, but it turns out this is perfectly authentic. The soup came with a large "pretzel roll", but it only looked like pretzel on the outside. It just tasted like a white bread roll. My friend ordered the Rueben Panini ($16.95, another good value with the salad and fries included), which would be more accurately described as corned beef on baguette with melted cheese, sauerkraut and a schmear of thousand island-like dressing. Her fries were good and generous portion, along with a generous portion of side salad. Our service could not have been friendlier. She kept our waters filled up and checked on us regularly. Splitting checks is not a problem, and cash or contactless payments are welcome. Clean, airy dining room and large, clean restroom. They have a good selection of beers on tap that they serve in 0.5 liter and 1 liter sizes, and a few non alcoholic bottled beers as well. I searched for a brewery with food and Das Bierhauz came up. I looked at the food menu and Weiner Schnitzel sounded amazing, so I checked it out. I walked in a sat at the bar. The bartender gave me a beer and food menu. I looked at the beer menu and realized that it wasn't a brewery, rather a Bierhauz with many taps from different German style breweries. I had an amber ale and a doppelbock. Both were good but the doppelbock was a little sweeter than what I prefer, but still good. I wanted the bock but the keg blew while he was pouring and he didn't have another available. He did give me the small pour and I drank it..totally bummed because it was my favorite of the beers I tried! The place is quite big with plenty of bar, outdoor and indoor seating. We came by for lunch after enjoying Redwood City's 4th of July parade and festivities. They have an outdoor patio space available but not all of the tables are shaded. We were able to get a bunch that was partially shaded and our family of 4 was all able to sit comfortable on one side of the table to take advantage of the shade. For our meal, I ordered a beet salad, my husband got the curry wurst, and we ordered a nurnberg wurst which comes with 6 skinny sausages, sauerkraut, and a pretzel bun for my kids to share. All the food we received was delicious - my beet salad was the perfect mixture of ingredients which just the right amount of raspberry dressing drizzled in. The meats were all so overcooked and dry. The flavors were not there. I doubt the chef or owner are German or have eaten real German food. The service was lackluster. They forgot to bring my husband's beer. Since no one checked on us, we couldn't let them know. When we were done (maybe ate 20% of the food) we looked for the server to pay. My husband mentioned he hadn't been brought his beer. The server did not offer to bring it, but instead argued that my husband had been given the beer and finished it. We pointed out there was no glass anywhere and that the server had not checked on us at all so no glasses/dishes had been removed. It was not a good experience. We paid and left. read more

My Hoppy Place The original Oktoberfest, held in 1810, was meant to be a one-time affair, a celebration of the marriage of Prince Ludwig I to Princess Theresa of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The citizens (a.k.a. burghers) of Munich celebrated for five full days in front of the city gates and indulged in drink, food, parades and music. Such a good time was had by all that they've been holding the fête every year since, excluding years of war a few cholera epidemics here and there--but let's not go there. Despite my laissez-faire demeanor, I do love me some traditions--especially when food and drink are involved. So every year we try and find us a nice German joint to celebrate Oktoberfest and this year's wheel fell on Das Bierhauz's newish DTRWC location, with the original being in DT Mountain View. The Good: *Huge dog-friendly bïergarten (outdoor space) *Friendly service *Twenty German beers on draught *Order and pay via QR Code, or if you're more of a traditionalist you can order inside at the counter. *DT RWC is very underrated and more laidback than most places. *German Beef Rouladen was excellent! The beef was nice and tender and filled with bacon, mustard, pickles and onions and topped with a luscious beef gravy that had my wanting more. The coconcomitant Rotkohl (German Red Cabbage) was also quite tasty. The Meh: *The Käsespätzlee Gratin was good and kid of a German Mac and Cheese.
