Simple menus can mean a place doesn't care or it means a place doesn't care to mess up what made them good. I'm glad this place sticks to what they know best, burgers (and dogs but thats another story). The burgers are single or double burgers that are made fresh to order . The topping list is pretty extensive and they don't overcharge for grilled shrooms, onions or peppers. The fries are huge in portion, we split an order of small fries between four co-workers and it was more than plenty. I'm alittle bummed we didn't realize there are cajun fries, but whatever. Thanks for opening up so close to work and letting me try one of your fabled burgers before I move to the land down under. DISGUSTING (please view all photos!) February 25, 2015 I placed an order to pick up. HAMBURGER 1. Someone made the burger, wrapped it up and it appears once it was wrapped up they squished it into a ball. When I took my hamburger out, it was round and I thought, hmmm - that's rather odd, but maybe it's that way because I ordered a lettuce as a bun. 2. I began to examine what I thought was a hamburger it appeared vomitous! Lettuce was severely saturated, soggy, extremely wilted, with a couple brown spots as a finishing touch. As I began to pull the lettuce off my round baseball looking item, the hamburger was all mashed up in little pieces, brown ground meat looking as if it was ready to put into a old fashioned Mock Cooter Soup! (RECIPE: From White Trash Cooking. Author: Ernest Matthew Mickler). The tomato looked if someone took one slice of a tomato dropped it on their greasy floor and stomped on as if they were Barefoot Grape Stomping Champions. After digging into this hot mess (Actually it was cold... but you get the terminology I'm trying to convey) with about ONE HALF cup of mayo. At that point, I wrapped it back up into the ball and tossed it in my garbage can and when it went in, I said, TWO POINTS for me. You know, when you don't miss the garbage can?! GRILLED CHEESE 1. Very dense bread as if the bread was still in a dough texture. A TON of cheese, and I mean a TON. I've never seen so much cheese in a sandwich before. If I scrapped the cheese out, I could make Con Queso Dip that would easily feed three to four grown adults. Lastly, I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato and sadly it was not in there and yes, I used my fork & spoon to dig through the goop to see if it was smothered. FRENCH FRIES 1. The worst fries I have ever sank my teeth in my entire life. SICK! Saturated with oil as if they were sitting for quite some time. When you grabbed a fry it immediately slouched over and the SMELL was just DIRTY. That was some OLD reused oil that hasn't been changed in a long, long time. I would rather eat a dirty sock, the entire sock! These fries could definitely be used on Fear Factor as a repulsive food challenge CALLED SCHAUMBURG / MEACHUM STORE It was 5:55pm and a manager said, can you make this quick I leave at 6 (plus it was snowing like mad) although it irritated me, I spoke really fast - he said, come back into the store and I will have another manager give you a coupon (Mind you, It's snowing like Mad!) I said, no thank-you then hung up. I called back at 6:10 to let to explain about my grilled cheese. When I was done speaking, he was silent as if quietly hung up on me... He was there, then I said your food is absolutely disgusting and I'll never come back again. He said, OK. Then I said, I'm going to post my review to Yelp and post my pictures, he said do what you want. Then I hung up and now you are reading my horrible experience and at the same time, you get to view my photos! Please take a look and enjoy the slide show. Love the philosophy. Keep it simple. Keep it fresh. With that being said, I'm a flame broiled guy. Portillo's is still the best burger out there for under $10. Five Guys is the closest thing I've tasted to In & Out Burger. On the greasy side and the fries rock. They're fried in peanut oil, which makes them delicious. The only real problem is that if you at this place more than once or twice a month, you may drop dead of a heart attack. The counter people were very cool. It makes a difference. read more

I remember when Five guys opened in Schaumburg and the hype that followed it. I wouldn't say it was a bad burger but it was outrageously priced for what it was. I think I spent close to $10 for a burger that was about the diameter of a Big Mac patty. It was dry and as flavorless as a patty of meat could ever be. The fries were OK but I'm not a huge fry person to begin with. The soda was the best part of my meal unfortunately. Some people dig it, and more power to them if thats what they like. read more

When we were in Chicago, this was the first time I ever tried Five Guys. My sister is a huge fan of Jaws Burgers near our house, and I've heard that the two are pretty equal in taste. Honestly, I like Jaws a bit better. Five Guys has a good burger, but there's not a ton of flavor. And when I ate their fries, I could feel my arteries closing. Not that I didn't like them, but I didn't love them. And the fact that they're fried in peanut oil makes them the restaurant fries with the most calories. Yes, I looked... I guess I prefer burgers with a bit more flavor and fries that are worth the calories I'm consuming. I've been to a Five Guys in Chicago and it was pretty good, just read my review for the one on Sheridan. All of the Five Guys are probably pretty similar. However, I was not a fan of Five guys in Schaumburg for only one reason. Half their soda machine was out of order. I understand that shit happens and stuff breaks, but before people order drinks, you should let them know that selection of drinks is limited. I'm very particular about the kind of soda i drink (regular sprite/sierramist/7up) and this was on the side that was broken. So I basically shelled out money for a large drink that I didn't even drink and the place wouldn't give me a refund. Oh and they claim their ingredients are fresh, but I asked for mushrooms on my burger and they tasted like they came out of a can. And my boyfriend said that the jalepenos were not that good. read more

I've heard tons of great things about 5 Guys...and I must say that I was told a whole bunch of lies!!! The burger was okay...but not original or great!!! The beef patty only covered 1/2 of the bun while the salad of ingredients I chose filled the rest. The fries were overly greasy. The price was also highly inflated versus the quality & quantity of the meal. Peanuts were available for patrons. I don't really understand how a peanut goes with a greasy burger and fries...but they were available. The thing that this place does well is hiring a friendly & attentive crew. Went in with my dear husband and had the little cheeseburger with mushrooms and grilled onions. It was fine, the burgers are ok, the fries are ok, it doesn't blow my mind. The peanuts are a nice touch. The cashier was pleasant enough and are food came out in a timely manner. It seems like a lot of people have a problem with the price. When this place opened we thought we would give it a try. Honestly I have no idea why anyone would come here. The food was literally worse than the gristle burger they were serving down the street at Ted's Montana Grill (So shocking that Ted's closed this month). My boyfriends burger was really greasy. I ordered the veggie sandwich thinking it would be a nice healthy alternative. NOPE!!! It was a mess of greasy onions and I think green peppers fried until any nutritional value they might have had was gone. I could have eaten that & caulked it up to experience (note to self - place is only for those on the fast track to a double bypass). They just had to drown that poor little sandwich in cheese, dripping, everywhere cheese. This place has really great burgers and fries. I went to this Five Guys with my older brother and his very good friend James P. I had a double bacon cheeseburger topped with jalapeños and mushrooms. But my older brother, his very good friend James and I ate the Five Guys at home. All three of us got a side of french fries. Their burgers are the best I've ever had and seen. Ok, it was pretty tasty, but I don't really get what the big deal is. For $9.78 for a Little Cheeseburger, fries, and a regular drink, I think I'd prefer to go down the street to Culver's. The burger was definitely tasty, and I really liked the sesame bun. In fact, I Think that was the best part about it. The pickles have a bit of tang to them, and the beef was moderately seasoned, but fine. Everything seemed very fresh, and top notch for a fast food restaurant. I expected more out of the fries, given how much effort they go to in order to let you know what others think about them (all over the walls, windows, drink). You can tell the potatoes were high quality, but they needed a bit more seasoning (Five Guys Style), and were perhaps just a touch undercooked. Definitely a good, fast burger. I have never had Five Guys and was curious to check it out. I went with a single patty with everything, should've just went with a double though as the single disappeared pretty quickly. I didn't really love the fries, but loved that they had malt vinegar available for them. The service was very fast, friendly and helpful to newbies. It was kinda hard for me to find and I travel this area a lot. I didn't even know that little strip mall existed. It is North of Remington on the West side of Meacham. The only reason I'm even giving this place 2 stars is because the burgers are decent. We've gotten food from this place twice (thanks to Schmoyo and Daym, the dudes responsible for the Oh My Dayum video). The first time wasn't bad, the burgers were ok and the fries left something to be desired. So we figured we would try it again and maybe we had gotten a bad batch of fries the time before. As everyone says it's a little pricey but I don't care since it's an occasional artery clogging treat. So we went again last night and the fries were absolutely disgusting. I'm not being dramatic at all, they were easily the worst I've ever had in my life. They were so bad that we threw them out without eating any and didn't even give some to the dogs. Upon request from my son back from college, we went there. Burgers were marginal at best (no taste, just regular beef patty). Cajun fries were good, but not exceptionally good. I've had better. My husband and I got two burgers, a drink, and one regular Cajun fry (trust me, the portion was HUGE) and our bill was around $20. The family is front of us had a bill at $60!! This is like my favorite location. For some reason it's never too crowded which is nice. Staff is always efficient and quick (they do work on tips as well so tip well if good service) From all the gourmet burger places I place it above meatheads but not quite better than smashburger but not by much. Where Smashburger is more airy as far as burgers go, this place is more meat and thick. Their menu should give it away, their standard burgers are double burgers so if you want a single go for the single. You build your own burger here so make it to your tasting. They make everything to order and their portion in fries are HUGE! A large fry is usually good for two. They have an outside area for when the weather is actually nice in Chicago! And I can't go without saying they have one of those lovely Coke machines! Love it! read more

Loved this place! I've noticed them slowly popping up all over Chicagoland and had to look them up to see what they were even selling. Really good burger, especially for the price. I think I heard too much hype before I tried Five Guys. I've heard so many great things about their burgers and while I think it was a good burger it didn't deserve the top notch talk. I like the fact that you can get a regular fries and feed 2-3 people. And even though I didn't have any peanuts I like that idea of something while you wait for them to finish up cooking your burger. The double cheeseburger was a good size but the flavor was not their for me. I don't like a lot of toppings on my burgers but I like when they are seasoned with goodies like Woreschester. The Five Guys burgers tasted like a slightly larger, flatter patty than your regular fast food burger. I learned after my first visit, always go for the little burgers. The standard is a double, and it was something I was not prepared for the first time around. My poochie agrees Five Guys rocks, but he's angry that I don't come home with an extra patty for him. I can't pick my favorite fry though. The cajun ones are addictive, but the five guys ones are wonderful as well. Though the burgers are good, they are incredibly petty there. I asked the cashier if I could get s regular sized cup for my water, and not the Dixie cup they offered me. She said you'll need to pay for the cup, so I ask how much, expecting .25 cents which would still be 20 X more than they paid for it. But she tells me $2.79. I had to have her repeat it it was so outrageous, to which she said the same. She then stated that that's five guys policy that she has no control over it. I declined the cup and took the Dixie cup and had to make several trips to the water during dinner. Five guys burgers, this is a total disappointment and scam. So it was a chilly evening but 3 of us wanted to try it out based on what discussion I had about In/Out burger in California. Let me say In/Out for us was IN and this place 5 guys was OUT. I went up to counter and no one was behind me. Started ordering and had a question about the toppings - the guy gave me this "ok let me start this over again" bussiness which was not very customer friendly. After I ordered 3 cheseburgers and 1 large fries - with cups for water, get the sticker shock of $24.xx dollars (the price was up there but just my mental calc when price comes - little voice went off). The ambience - the music was a little over the top. The place felt like sitting outside chilly, with the burger smell all over - expected, but over the top again. But I saw all the rave postings on the walls all across the joint, so was patient. The burger was greasy but bland even with the jalapeno - which was just a sliced green pieces. The veg was nothing to note. And to top it off the lady took the picture of the fries - old oil and talked to the cook - they agreed oil needed to change and laughed it off with the other helps which my daughter took note of. I was last to finish it trying to find something worthy to the posters I saw - even in the bathroom. I'm found myself metally driving back to other burger places. I am only rating this 1 star because of the price. The burgers and fries are good but the prices are astronomically high. I have eaten here many times but I don't remember a burger, fries and drink costing almost $16.00. I had a bacon cheeseburger ($7.79) regular cajun fries ($3.79) and a large drink ($2.59). This is insane. With tax (which in Schaumburg is 11% on food), my total was $15.74. They used to give you a ton of fries, not anymore. I like the food here but this is the last time I will go here. Looks like I will be going to Smash Burger from now on. The same items there are $11.17. Still not cheap but man, $16.00? Forget it. I could go to a nice sit down restaurant and get a good burger for less than that. read more

I love this place. The food is always made in front of you so you know how its being prepared and they also give you a bunch of extra fries. Plus, there is a never ending supply of free peanuts as well. Sometimes the burgers have a wet bun, but this isn't always the case and certainly doesn't prevent it from being absolutely delicious. Service: The service was extremely pleasant: smiles and an upbeat atmosphere. Food: I ordered the regular cheeseburger with a small fry and drink. The prices were kind of iffy, but worth it in the end. The cheeseburger has two meat patties on it and tastes absolutely delicious. The cheese is also melted wonderfully on the top of the patties. I love any and all bacon cheeseburgers! This one disappointed me - I got everything on it - couldn't taste the bacon, but then tried a piece of bacon all alone and it had no flavor. Their fries taste like potato skins, so you better like potato skins if you order them. Next time I'll try the cajun and a plain bacon cheeseburger (sounds sad). Their beef patty was tasteless - prefer Buona or Assembly even Burger King's flamed broiled taste. Got my order to go - the grease came through the bag, right away should have double bagged it.
