Double dog with fries Beef bowl Large diet coke

We have not been here in a while and we're passing by around dinnertime so we decided to dine here. I ordered the double dog (it comes with fries) the fries are just like McDonalds used to make back in the day without all the chemicals. Wow I forgot how much I loved their fries! These are clearly the best fries around (in my opinion) My husband ordered the beef bowl. We posted a video of him opening it up. They wrap it really good with plastic wrap. The guys at the counter took the orders quickly and got out food out to us just as fast. Very impressive It is freezing cold outside and it was nice and warm in here. Even when the door opened you did not get any arctic blast and we sat really close to the door. Definitely adding this to our favorites list! Great food at good prices! Cannot go wrong dining here. Will dine here again soon!

We tried the other Johnnie's Beef so we of course had to try this Johnnie's Beef. Hubby and daughter each got a beef and the son ordered a hot dog. Everything was great... perfectly dipped and hot. Service was incredibly quick, we were there at lunch time during the week. We sat outside and watched the birds who were looking for dropped French fries. The birds are smart, the fries are great. We made some friends as we were walking to our car... all of us talking about how good the beef is.

I know this place is an institution and really famous for the Italian beef and the grilled hotdog here. However, I came here for the very first time on a weekday to get some relief from the ridiculous heat. I wanted to try the famous Italian ice here. I came at an off time in the afternoon and of course there was a line however, this line does move. I learned on this day there's only lemon or watermelon and there's no mixing, which is perfectly fine. We got two large lemons and they really overflow and overfill that cup, which is fantastic. I will definitely be coming back here again as this is a true institution at staple. There is real lemon in the lemon ice so it's not just sugar. They have a pretty big parking lot as well.

Johnnie's Beef is a local staple! The Arlington Heights location accepts cash and card to make it easy for customers. They are best known for their Italian beef sandwich as well as italian ice. My husband ordered the combo sandwich (italian beef & sausage) with wet bread and hot peppers. The peppers added a good heat to the sandwich! I had the hotdog and fry combo. The fries were skinny, perfectly salted, and crispy. My hotdog had a steamed bun and quality beef. We shared the small italian ice which had a fresh lemon flavor. This is a fast casual spot with some tables and chairs inside and on an outdoor patio. Parking is minimal up front but there is more in the back. Overall, I highly recommend Johnnie's Beef for the quality, flavor, and to support small business.

First of all anybody who rates this place less than five stars as an idiot and should not be posting anything on Yelp clearly doesn't know anything about Italian beef and how they should be presented. This place is a staple and icon to the whole Chicagoland area this branch out in Arlington Heights is spot on to the original in the city 100% worth a drive no matter where you're at to go get a large or an XL Italian beef with hot peppers on the side. The service in this place is absolutely stupendous & fast. I was in line with 15 people in front of me and was through the line with my food in hand less than five minutes everything accurate and perfect and delicious as it was when I was a kid eating there for many many years !! Every time I visit Chicago that's my first stop as well as Al & Joe's Italian subs in Franklin Park near the airport (bonus review) (look it up) Johnnie's beef on the inside of this restaurant is no frills , simple , Fast and place for the best Italian beefs in the whole city. Now, if you want the most authentic Italian ice you'll ever have ? Johnny's is even known more for their Italian ice than their beef and their beefs are 6 1/2 stars out of 5.!! so make sure that you get the Italian lemonade ice !! It's the staple of Johnny's beef & 100% you will not be dissatisfied !! So..if you are looking for some great authentic Chicago fast food Italian beef's,sausage,Hotdogs? This Italian beef stand should be eaten every day that you visit Chicago that's just my suggestion!! Try something different on the menu every day that you're there trust me it's worth it. ! Cheers!!

Went here for an Italian Beef. The place was packed. I was greeted and placed my order. My order was handed to me so fast, I thought they gave me someone else's food. There were no tables available so I asked a guy could I share his table. It was too cold to sit outside. The beef was tender and seasoned well. The hot peppers could be hotter but still had a nice kick. The fries were crispy and salted well. And the price for both was a good deal.

    Fun!

When in Chicago I always need an Italian beef sandwich! Method: wet with hot peppers. This one was good. Very few hot peppers, not very wet. I left behind some of the dry parts of bread. Good heat on the peppers, but really wanted to see morel on the sandwich before I ate it!

I got take out, tamales and a italian beef sandwich and a hotdog. I was already "Hangry", been in a car for 12 hes traveling from NYC to Chicage. First restaurant on the way to the hotel is Johnnie's beef. Its only normal to want to try their signature tamales, i placed an order, we shared it with my wife. As a Salvadorian, who has eaten many tamales sweet, savory, pork, chicken and tamales de elote. I didnt understand what i was eating. There was something maybe beef, pork or chicken that was the filling in the tamal. The masa was soft and doughy, couldnt eat it. The beef sandwich was ok, if you take away the pickled veggies, the beef does not have alot of taste. The hotdog was another story. I am an avid hotdog connoisseur. My favorite dog no matter where I go, is the costco hotdog. So we tried the hotdog with everything, they are right had everything but taste. Never had a bad dog, i guess there is always a first time for everything. What can i say. We were veey disappointed about lunch.

    Welcome

Johnnie s Beef is a classic Chicago beef stand. My favorite is the combination beef and sausage with their homemade sweet peppers. My tip is to order a sweet pepper sandwich and a hot dog which comes with fries!

DELICIOUS!! Super Fast!! I love how they don't skimp on the Giardiniera! The fries were hot and crispy. Wish there were cheese for the fries to dip, but not a game changer!

Beef, dipped, w/ homemade hot gardindera peppers & a fry.

Folks, it ain't fancy, but it's the best meal you will eat almost any day of the week. It's honestly the best beef sandwich in Chicago. I kept it simple, beef dipped with homemade hot gardinera peppers. Side of well done fries ( ha ha, they only do it one way, theirs). This place takes a credit card which the Elmwood Park place doesn't. They even have squirt bottles of ketchup instead of a paper twist with a dude squirting it in there, laughable. Bread was the good stuff from Torrano and it held together even in the gravy bath. OMG! Seriously, it's just so good. I'm sweating from the peppers & flavor bomb explosion in every bite. Can't say enough about this lunch experience. Enjoy with an out of towner and they will move to IL. Ya gotta eat it here for the full experience. Don't miss it!

Ask the Community - Johnnie's Beef

    Is this location cash only?

Used to be but, cards r okay now. They also have an atm on site as well

    Can you ship?

    Sorry, we do not ship.

Is there an actual website or Instagram page? Also, is there a child's meal option?

We sell hot dogs but have no designated kids menu. We do not have a website or instagram page. We are on Facebook.

    Any gluten free options?

They have bowls, which have no bread - italian beef bowl, combo (beef & sausage) bowl and tuna bowl.

Is the same owner as Johnnies on North Ave?

    Yes

Did they change their bread? Seems more like a sub sandwich and not their usual crusty bread. It used to be gonella did it change?

The bread seems a little rubbery so I'm not sure if they change the bread I know the weather sometimes has a lot to do with it if there's humidity in the air the bread becomes a little more rubbery than if it was dryer air

Not only is there a food court of different Japanese restaurants to try, there is also a grocery store, bakery, bookstore, and stores that sell ice cream, traditional desserts, as well as crepes and boba tea! My family and I visit here often every year and we like to try the different foods and desserts and then check out the bookstore and grocery store afterwards. My favorite foods so far have been the beef udon soup with a soft boiled egg, shrimp and vegetable tempura, miso soup, and Japanese curry with rice, beef, and vegetables (carrots and potatoes). My son always gets the chicken and beef on a stick and my daughter usually gets a garlic pork dish with white rice but I forget what this dish is called. My husband also enjoys the beef udon soup like I do. I swear that whenever my food is finished, I am legit sad! The crepes are good, there is a variety of boba teas to try, and the ice creams are delicious! Lychee has been my favorite so far but I have yet to try the matcha, red bean, among others! You can get a small sample of different ice cream flavors too, which is nice! I sampled the red bean flavor so that will be my go-to next time! At the grocery store, I love buying Happy Turn snacks which are like a sweet and salty crunchy cracker (maybe it is made of rice?) that are individually wrapped and mochi from the fridge area. Finally, I usually like to buy mochi from the store right next to the bookstore. The mochi from this location is the best! I usually buy multiple flavors to take home and eat at a later time! You must try these! My kids love checking out the bookstore and they usually pick something out for me to buy for them - whether it is a book, keychain, etc. There are magazines, anime figurines, soft plushy toys, pens, and stationary, etc. It is interesting to browse through the things they have there! You cannot bring food or drinks inside but they do have a shelf at the entrance where you can place your drink there if you like. The first time visiting here, the majority of the customers were Asians and as the years have passed, there is now more of an influx of non-Asians who simply love the food and appreciate the culture, which I think is neat! The first time I visited here was with my college roommate who was from Japan and she recommended this place back in 2009 perhaps? I have been visiting ever since with my family. We travel more than an hour from Wisconsin to come here but it is 100% worth the drive! Also, the cashiers and workers there are quick, efficient, and friendly. I have even been able to practice a few of the Japanese phrases I have learned with a couple of the cashiers too (I asked if they spoke Japanese first)! Overall, Mitsuwa is my happy place! Great food, interesting finds, different culture, and everyone there looks excited to be there. This is as close to visiting Japan as I can get until I keep learning more Japanese and save up enough money to go visit Japan someday! This is my dream! In the meantime, we will keep visiting Mitsuwa!

I needed to go grocery shopping, but before the tasks begins hubs and I needed lunch! We walked thru the choices available at the food court and decided that Korean wings would be a tasty lunch meal. We were there just before 3:00 so we ordered the KPopcorn chicken lunch special. It came with tater tots (my fav), popcorn chicken with ddukbokki (ttekbokki) in the OG sauce, and a soft drink. We also got a 5 piece chicken wing in honey sauce and a taro blended smoothie. The popcorn chicken with dduk-bokki was plentiful for a lunch special. The OG sauce is DELICIOUS! It's slightly spicy, sweet, umami, and covered everything well! The popcorn chicken was crispy and juicy, nice plump sized pieces, and the dduk-bokki was nicely seared, chewy, and fresh! The tater tots were fried well and we dipped it in the OG sauce. The wings were larger and juicy, sooooo crispy, and covered in plenty of yum honey sauce. It wasn't a sickly sweet honey sauce, it was well balanced! The taro freeze tasted like taro which is good. I've had it at other places where it just tastes like a cup of slushy ice and a hint of something. The owner (I think he was the owner) was so sweet and was patient while I tried to figure out what we wanted. Because we were there just before 3:00 on a Monday, it wasn't very busy. There are plenty of tables for seating and enjoying your food. They're spaced nicely apart and all kept clean. The food court area is separate from the grocery store and has its own entrance (far right doors as you face the front of the store). To get to the grocery side you'll have to leave the food court and walk over to the other entrance. Craving some delicious Korean wings, dduk-bboki, or even bingsoo? KCafe will really hit the spot and it's so affordable!

I have been to Penang many times, and it has always been for a special occasion. Today, I missed…read morethe taste of Malaysia so I came to dinner by myself. I ordered enough for two, which means I would have something for the next two meals. The restaurant has been around for a while, and it is a stand alone building. The menu, like what you will find in Malaysia - a mixed of Chinese, Malay, and Indian. The service is always prompt. Here's what I ordered: 1) Roti Canai served with Malaysian chicken curry - the curry is unlike Indian curry. This is a typical Malaysian style curry. You take a piece of the crispy yet a little chewy pan fried dough and dipped in this curry broth. That combination will kick off your appetite. 2) Seafood and Tofu clay pot - a mix of fish fillet, squid, shrimp, vegetables and homemade tofu served in a clay pot. The tofu is delicious - crispy outside with soft and silky center - chef's kiss! 3) String bean mixed with balacan - balacan is a Malaysian sambal sauce made with shrimp paste and chili. It has this savory, sweet and lightly spicy flavor mixed with crispy string beans. It was a delightful dinner! There are many other dishes that I'll come back for, especially other dishes with their homemade tofu.

I went here for boba with a friend. She appreciated how there were a variety of non-caffeinated…read moreflavor combinations. I opted for the matcha dalgona with boba. It was delectably foamy and sweet. My only regret was that it was this particular flavor combination didn't come with an option for a larger size. It really hit the spot for a cold, foamy beverage with perfectly chewy boba. I also tried out their house special braised beef noodles. They were great, but I wish there were more vegetables and noodles. (This was just personal preference.) The beef was well braised, seasoned, and excellent. Patrons order from kiosks and pick up items from the front desk. It would have been nice to interact more with staff, but the system is definitely set up for efficiency. Parking is a shared plaza private lot with plenty of spots during the weekdays. Weekends can be hectic given the amount of businesses here. Worth a visit for sure!

Honestly if you're wanting a tea or a drink this place is great for that...but that's about it…read more I've been a number of times and really have had decent experiences and again would recommend the Nile's location for to-go drinks only. Everything else is sub par...the dan dan noodles may have been the worst I ever had. The noodles were over cooked and stuck together, there was hardly any toppings and it was not at all as it was described. We also got the "Chinese burger" honestly this was also not something I would ever get again. The "bun" situation was dry and had no flavor...also the pork had no flavor and was also dry...I can see why the girl behind was questioning if it was even on the menu still because clearly no one is ordering it and when a customer does they're surprised. Now what really put me off (aside from the surprise piece of aluminum foil found in our food) was the horrible customer service. While waiting for our drinks and food to come out all I hear is one of the employees behind the counter commenting on multiple items on our order. Is it really that hard to make a drink and add extra ice without questioning why you need to add extra ice if that's the special request? It's requested because maybe we like our drinks to not be luke warm and prefer them cold. Then to make comments and being surprised an item was ordered ("chinese" burger). It was on the menu it sounded interesting we wanted to try it...after hearing the reaction it honestly made me second guess placing the order. Then to top it off when the drinks were ready our name was called...I asked if the food would be coming later and the attitude I received back being told that it takes longer threw me off completely. Yes I asked if the food would be coming later but I was asking to ensure that they knew we also had a food order. The attitude implying that I didn't understand that it'll take a bit long was not necessary. Needless to say if we ever come back our orders will be ONLY for drinks, we will NOT be ordering food and I will hope to not have much of any interaction with the staff at this location. It will strictly be pick up & go. Hopefully your team takes some time to work on their customer service skills cause it's lacking.
