All In-N-Out bias aside, this place is pretty damn good. While essentially I still prefer the taste of a double double, it's very unfair to compare this place to its competitor located conveniently across the street. While the two establishments share the same red-white indoor color scheme, the two couldn't be any more different. From the very moment I walked in I was greeted by the nice lady all the way behind the counter. She was very kind and courteous, and since this was my first ever visit, she explained to me how the food is normally ordered and how there are no combos. I had a single cheeseburger with Cajun fries. I must say, the burgers are huge and delicious, with a homemade sort of kick to it. The Cajun fries were really bomb, and I couldn't help but keep eating my leftover ones from the bag while I was driving back home. The only major hiccup is the price, as whole meal will set you back at least $10 or so. But with great customer service like theirs, it's worth it to return. Real burger enthusiasts will throw petty arguing on the side and enjoy all the great stuff, whether it be In-N-Out, Five Guys, or the Habit. read more

Tasty burger with lots of toppings (which are free). I ordered a little cheeseburger (one patty instead of double) and it was plenty; very filling. The regular French fries order is fairly large and they were delicious. They're not too salty and I really liked that they are cooked in peanut oil. Ordered Bacon cheese burger 1x large fries & 1x small fries for my dad. Idk why the attitude but it definatly changed. I would usually have good experience but this time was bad. Taking forever and messing up multiple peoples orders. Once my order was ready they asked if i wanted ketchup i said yes. I get 2 packets.?? really?? As well my order of fries was not filled all the way. The guy at counter says "we always do it that way" BS i always come to this location and they usually fill up and with lil bit more & a good amount of packets. The menu is overpriced while I'd give the food a 3.5 out of 5. I didn't like the milkshake because it tasted more artificial than in other burger chains. The patty is meaty with nice texture. However, the burger overall has a slightly bland or boring side to it. Even when you order the "all the way" the toppings don't go that well together. My boyfriend and I went in tonight and spent 23 dollars for two bacon cheeseburgers only to receive two regular cheeseburgers, mine with nothing I asked for and his with all his topping except his bacon... which cost 2 extra dollars. What upset me most is when I called to ask what could be done, my only option was to come in to get a new burger. I sent my hubby on a burger and fry run a couple weeks ago and was so disappointed when he arrived. I ordered a cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce and a small fry and he ordered a double cheeseburger, fries and a shake. When he got back my protein style burger was completely smashed under his double cheeseburger in the bag and they forgot my fries. Now, I have no life because I actually compared both In N' Out and Five Guys on the same day. First the price: Cheeseburger is $5.87. The Double-Double at In N Out is $3.43. If you do your math kiddies that is a difference of $2.44. This means: If I took my mommy, daddy, fat brother Joe, Ivan, Georgia, and Oliver--and we all got a cheeseburger from Five Guys, that would cost me $41.01. If we all got the Double-Double that would be $23.98 (a $17.03 difference in price). hmmmm wow. The cheeseburger is a double patty, and I got it with everything. I did enjoy the taste of the mushrooms, but I did find the meat to have minimal flavor. In comparison, it reminded me a bit of Wendy's. I think I am the only person who finds Wendy''s superior to In N Out...love the burgers at Wendy's. However Wendy's is better than Five Guys...Yup, not trollin'. Back to the review. I loved the taste of the mushrooms and pickles. Someone did mention that the burger kept falling out, and it really did (Warning to you boys: You can't pick up on gals when the meat is falling all over you). In the end, I would say the burgers are good (not great), filling, pricey, and maybe better than In N Out (depending on my mood that day). Sometimes In N Out is just ok, other days, it's amazingly good. In the end, I'd have to give the WIN to In N' Out, it's less pricey, and you can get a 4 x 4 and eat well for an equal or lesser value than the cheeseburger (remember the cheeseburger comes with TWO patties). I did find them to be a bit slower in getting the burger out than In N Out, but I think that really depends on how many people are there. I would go back to Five Guys again, but I'd rather go somewhere else for a burger most the time. I won't be a person who goes there every weekend--I would be happy attending Five Guys a handful of times a year. Five Guys: Home of the Squish Burger I'd been to Five Guys before and left a decidedly meh review, or at least I think so, for the one in Downey or wherever it was. Regardless of the memory of that experience, I was excited to see there was going to be a Five Guys across the street from In-n-Out down here. Seemed like a fun bit of competition. While The Habit gets the 'best fast food burger' crown from me, it's still hard to beat In-n-Out. There's a few places where Five Guys irreparably screws up everything, and those are the important things to cover. First off, while the burgers start off absolutely delicious (my first bite left me saying, "Wow, I don't remember this tasting so much better than In-N-Out!") by the time you're half-way through they're just tiresome. Maybe it's because they're so filling (a "bacon cheeseburger" is actually a "bacon double cheeseburger" without warning), or maybe it's the delicious, melty cheese losing its flavor once it starts to congeal, but by the end of my burger I was forcing myself to eat it. It was so expensive, I felt like I had to. The joy of In-N-Out in part is that you can go there and get a double-double and fries for $4.99. I think most people don't realize this because they order a combo and it comes out to about $7. But without that over-priced soda, In-N-Out is actually a really good deal. Five Guys, not so much. While my burger had bacon on it, I didn't view it as being worth the nearly $7 I paid for it. $7, for just the burger, nothing else. At In-N-Out that's the whole combo. Yes, the meat in the burger was thicker, maybe even juicier, and less like McDonald's, and there was bacon on it, real, delicious, maybe a bit too-crispy bacon, but for $7... I'm a bit poor right now, so a single burger is all I could afford. I'd hate to imagine what it costs for a burger, fries, and a soda. I stole some of my friend's fries, and I have to preface this by saying I'm not a fry guy at all (I'm also not a 'boob guy' either) so honestly whether or not a place has good fries matters little to me, but I am capable of recognizing fries that stand out. Five Guys has good fries. It's all down to the seasoning, though, and I have a nagging suspicion they give you so many fries just to hide the fact that so many of them are limp, poorly fried and soggy. Unfortunately I would never go there just to eat the fries, and I don't hold any sort of real positive feeling about that burger. The people who work there seemed to be trained not to care about their burgers either: the patties of meat are mashed together before they're grilled, messily and without much class, and once they wrap the burger nicely in tin-foil they smash it between two hands before they give it to you. I'm sure there's SOME reason for this, one I can't comprehend, like an alien language from the stars, but I bet it's stupid, and completely unamerican. The bottom line is this: for about the same price you can get a delicious burger from The Habit down on Norwalk/Imperial that doesn't look like someone sat on it accidentally, and doesn't lose its flavor half-way through the ordeal. Or you can go to In-N-Out, which is right across the street, and for less than that price you can get a Double-Double and an order of fries. Why even go to Five Guys? I get the joke now: the Five Guys were a group of bros, who wanted to see if they could over-charge people for burgers they purposefully squish and destroy before they hand them over. Came here cause in n out had the longest line I've ever seen in their drive thru. I was craving a burger and figured I'll go to five guys instead, since it's usually empty, and yes it was empty. Came in at 2pm and a handful of people were in there. I ordered a little hamburger and small drink. I was shocked when it came out to $8!! This is why I don't come here. It's too damn expensive. Ambience is laid back. Guys are very nice and friendly. I got the small burger. Choose grilled onions and mushroom with lettuce. They served quite small quantity wanted more toppings but wasn't specific . Hamburger was pretty tasty and so was my Cajun fries. Next time I know how to order better. Not bad for a chain. One opened up in Whittier/Santa Fe Springs (right across the street from an In-N-Out I might add) so we finally decided to try it. If there is nothing around and you don't feel like a Corporate Burger; then this is the place to go. Do I think they have the best burgers around? Not even close. People have been telling us to go here since the GF and I were on a burger kick (ok, it was really me) last year. They were saying it was the best and we will always want to go. Nah, It has just your average burger joint and there really is nothing special there. The burgers tasted the same as other places, the fries tasted the same as any other place. Tried it once, no. Tried it twice, NO. Thrice, NO!!! Ok, the first bite of the burger is decent. Fresh, meaty, juicy. Then every bite after that is the same. Bland ass, greasy meat covered in cheese. For the price, no thanks. I don't care if you have all the toppings in the world to put on your burgers, it's not pizza and it's not a damn sundae. This is overpriced and extremely over-hyped nonsense. The only saving grace for Five Guys is the fries, that's it. I'll give you two stars for that. I don't understand all the hate for Five Guys. Yes, I think In-N-Out is far superior but they're completely different burger joints. Five Guys' little burger has a slightly thicker patty and it comes with a sesame bun. It is on the pricier side if you don't order anything on it like me but you do have a plethora of extra topping options. Their Cajun fries are to die for. The perfect amount of seasoning and crunch. Last night was my first time eating here and it was DELICIOUS!! Yes, it's a few dollars more than IN-N-OUT. The hamburger patties are thicker and you get more french fries therefore you're going to pay a little more. You're eating out, expect to spend money. So after hearing all this hype about the new kid on the block, Five Guys and Fries, we decided to give it a try for ourselves. We read some reviews and heard about the long waiting time, so I called in our order ahead of time. We walked into a noisy, crowded place and quickly noticed two big boxes of free peanuts on the counter. The air was filled with smoke and they must of had over 15 employees hustling behind the counter. There was a long line with over 10 people waiting to order. The restaurant is filled with newspaper quotes and framed articles, highlighting their restaurant. So let's cut to the chase, the standard hamburger is served with 2 patties, which reminds me of a typical backyard burger. The fries are thick and very greasy. You can expect to pay about $11 for a burger, small fries and drink. In & Out sells their tasty combos for under $5 and accomodates you with a drive thru. FINAL VERDICT: Food 3/5.....good, but nothing special and overpriced to compete with In & Out across the street. I'm not sure how long they'll hang in there. Service 4/5....well staffed, but overwhelmed with the large crowd. You can expect to wait over 10 minutes for your food. Ambiance 3/5....very crowded indoors/outdoors, along with loud music playing overhead. Overall 3.5....check it out for yourself. I'll save my time, money and appetite for In & Out. read more

OMG Just tried the new Five Guys Burgers that opened up - OMG almost as good as In-n-Out!! Guess what they post where the potatoes are from AND they actually taste like potatoes!!! So after being a native Californian and growing up eating In N Out Burgers, I've finally tried Five Guys. I'm actually pretty unimpressed considering allllll the hype surrounding Five Guys. Apparently it even now takes the crown of top burger joint in Southern California. Let's compare. Five guys has an uncrisped, un-browned, sesame seed bun. In N Out buns are w/ no sesame seeds, crisped perfectly just on the sides that touch the patties, and aren't as greasy as Five Guys. In N Out fries are fresh-cut in front of you, thinly sliced, fried to a comfortable crisp (not a crunchy crisp), and salted perfectly. For some reason, they just taste better. Five Guys fries are thicker and frankly just taste like regular hole-in-the-wall-restaurant fries, and I can't taste the difference from the peanut oil. I also tried the cajun fries, and they were just regular fries tossed in seasoning... The meat patty was good tasting, but it was too dry for me. In N Out patties are juicy. The extra toppings are pretty cool, especially since they're free, but they still don't compare to In N Out's secret menu (in my opinion. I mean cmon - animal fries!) Their grilled onions are also a little thick for what I'm used to. Last but not least, Five Guys just lacks that certain something that makes it unique. They don't have the In N Out spread, period. All the toppings Five Guys offers can be found at home. Not In N Out spread :) Eh.. I wouldn't eat at Five Guys again. But it's not like I hate it either. I think the real name should be "5 Guys that tried In N Out and is trying to copy them" Start up costs must be a lot, considering the burgers are like double the price of their cometitors. If I were looking to spend $6 on a burger I would go to a Full Service Restaurant... Burger Wars: Five Guys vs In-N-Out We just tried this new Five Guys and for fun picked up a In-N-Out Burger across the street so we could compare. I had a Five Guys 2 patty cheeseburger with mushrooms & tomato. Juicy & messy but good. But I did prefer the In-N-Out 2/2 Animal Style more. In-N-Out tasted better and had a fresh crispness. Loved It! Also, Five Guys at $5.00 is rather pricey compared to an In-N-Out 2/2 Animal style at $3.20. Five Guys does have excellent French Fries, fresh & clean taste. Also, small FF orders are large and large orders are Huge. I did feel that this Five Guys was rather small and cramped, not a great dining environment. Overall, while Five Guys is good. I utilized uber eats for a delivery from this five guys location. According to the Uber eats app food was to arrive at 1:30. I received the meal at 2:05 (STONE COLD) I contacted the restaurant and when I asked for the manager and told her of the situation she informs me that she knows exactly who I was. She goes on to say that I prepared your meal and it sat for over 30 min before the driver picked it up. I could not believe that those words left her managerial mouth. I asked her if she thought it was safe to have a "fast food meal" sit for over 30 min and did it ever cross your mind to contact the driver or at the very least prepare another batch of fries. She just argued with me and I could not get her to see that her line of reasoning was completely off. I advised her to not allow that to happen to anyone else. She went to say that this is a third party issue. Even so, she could have had some regard for our meal and made sure that it didn't sit there for over 30 min. Let me begin this by saying I love the free peanuts in the shell you can snack on while you wait for your order or even take a couple.bags to go. I was so happy when the Whittier location first opened since it is only 5 minutes away from my office. The line could be long but they go by really fast. The burgers are around $5 depending on whether you order the Little Burger or Regular Burger. The Little Burgers are single patty and Regular are double patty. They also include a long list of condiments that you can add to your burger without an additional charge. What I love the most though isn't their burgers but it's their Cajun seasoned fries. They cook it with peanut oil so it tastes so much better than regular fries. I find myself craving these fries all the time! Although my heart still belongs to Inn-N-Out, 5 Guys is a good alternative when I find myself sick of eating Animal Style Double Doubles. read more

It might be the In-n-Out bias coursing through my veins, but I consider Five Guys to be your average to above-average burger stop. Although toppings and options are plentiful, I can barely taste the difference between a regular cheeseburger and one loaded with Jalapenos, onions, tomatoes, and what-not. The meat used it DELICIOUS, but it seems to overpower everything else and a burger should be a solid meal and not just a glorified piece of meat. I will nod towards those fancy soda-dispensers that have 10 million options. In the quest for a great burger, Five Guys is good, but not great.
