The staff has always been so attentive and knowledgeable of their stock. Whether or not there are a lot of customers there, I have always gotten the same level of service even when they are juggling service for other customers. This store truly has everything for ice hockey and a roller selection as well. Buying new gear is expensive, but they have clearance deals online and the staff has always been able to help me get my size right in store so I can purchase from them online. You don't have a lot of options for buying hockey gear in the area so Pure Hockey doesn't have to be as good as it is so I appreciate all the staff there! read more

The best ice hockey store in the Raleigh/Durham area. Largest selection, nice location, staff are helpful. A little narrow on brands (no Warrior gear, almost entirely CCM and Bauer) compared to other Pure Hockey stores I've been to (e.g., in Virginia). I think some of the lower ratings may reflect what they were like when they first opened. I've noticed a big improvement in customer service. read more

Read the reviews on 5Hole. And they were right!!! The store has everything you need. The staff, Jason, Jake, Jeff, John know there stuff. Walked me thro everything on skates. They measured my feet to get that right fit on the machine. Tried on few boots and found the perfect. Explained fit, sizing, baking and blade sharpening and how they are used. Got a chance to pock a stick. Hits some pucks. Tried on helmets for that right fit too. Cant say enough about these two. They know there job!!!! Thanks guys!!! I recommend them. Prices are good to. Will Sudderth assisted us in finding the right skates for my son as well as a lot of gear for my husband. He spent a lot of time ensuring we had the proper fit, style, comfort and educating us all along the way. It is about a 3 hour drive from where we live but I will 100% be recommending this location and special recommendation out to ask for Will! At Five Hole, the EMPLOYEE comes first! 5 employees took 1 hour to sharpen two pairs of skates, completely forgetting about me. These space cadets don't understand where the money in their paycheck comes from. Since they seem to be brain dead I'll tell them, the customers pay your hourly wage, not the owner. So you need to make them BOTH happy, get it? Soon you will have no customers because of your unprofessionalism and just plain stupidity, and then no paycheck. Walk in the place. I'm the only customer in the store. Two employees over age 30 behind the counter, three other high school or younger kids stocking/arranging shelves. I had to ask the two behind the counter (b/c they never opened their mouths to ask me "how can we help you") how long to give them to sharpen two pairs of skates (I had other stores close by to stop at), was told 30 minutes. What a joke, 30 min for two pairs. I leave and return 30 minutes later, still the only customer in the store. The oldest employee, I can only assume the "manager", gives me a blank stare and says "oh shoot...they were never touched...guess I'll start on them now." I hear the machine start running, and then...nothing. I look over, guy is answering another employee's question. Maybe 5 minutes later I finally hear a skate on the grinding wheel. After 1min, he stops. What is he doing this time, talking to another employee of course. Then, back to sharpening, for all of about 2min. Then another employee asks the guy a question about stocking things, so there's another 5 minutes of my skates not being touched, that way the employees can instead have their very critical and important conversation. Over the course of the next 30 minutes, this is all that happens; skates touch the machine but then he stops and talks to employees for three times as long. So after a total of 1 hour, they were finally able to figure out how to sharpen two pairs of skates. How stupid can these employees be? It's almost like there's a contest to be the most useless employee, was I on a hidden camera show maybe? Do yourself a HUGE favor and check out other places, like Pro Skate Balance in Morrisville. read more

They don't list prices on the skates, which forces to you to get help every time you want to look at something or even just price-browse what you want. It's frustrating. The "$50 skate fitting fee" sign isn't clear what it means. Are they going to charge me to ask for something in my size? I've ordered jerseys from this place 3 separate times and every time something is completely wrong. Wrong name on wrong size jersey, not what I ordered/incomplete order, and finally, a misspelled name. The printing is also not even on all of them -- looking very sloppy. There are better places to shop hockey, locally. Try Raleigh Center Ice pro shop, or The Factory pro shop in Wake Forest. There also is the Ice House shop right across the street. If all else fails, try HockeyMonkey.com. While I don't mind paying a bit extra to support local shops, it's frustrating when they can't seem to catch up with the times and provide a solid business that is dependable. read more

Was here for the first time to get skates sharpened. I dropped them off and came back approximately one hour later. While being rung up, the person behind the counter was taking to someone on the phone the entire time. He never made eye contact with me and didn't say a single word to me other than, "credit or debit." This kind of customer service is beyond rude. As a customer, I feel that I deserve better. There are other places to get skates sharpened. I will not be coming back here. read more

Holy expensive. Travelled here (the Charlotte location) for a tournament and was amazed at the difference in prices between our local shop in SC and this place. Easily 25% higher on average. Did they forget that there are other places to buy hockey equipment??? Guy was a bit rude and always on his phone too. No wonder the place was empty. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Bought new skates here and they fell apart in less than 90 days. These were not cheap skates at all ($450). Was told that i needed to contact management which i did and still have yet to hear back. This was over a month ago. Ive gone in numberous times and even left my number. Tried going through CCM but they suggested going through the store first. bought a new pair online (exact same kind) and not only were they cheaper they also have held up very well. Nice people. Know their stuff . I go there and get help and know I may .. not always though pay a little more than if I order online. I like knowing i"m getting the right size and the best equipment fitting etc.. for me five hole has always been great. I will continue to shop there. read more

The owner is cool but most of the employees I've met are useless. I went in for a skate sharpening 55 minutes before they closed, when I walked in the two employees were just watching TV. I asked for a sharpening and the tall skinny ginger kid just grabbed the skates and started, didn't say anything or look at me. I rode with my buddy who was on the phone in his car when I walked in. So when he started walking up to the store with his skates, the two employees saw him through the window and said, "are you fucking kidding me?". As if their job description from 7pm-8pm was to watch TV and look at their cell phones. They realized quickly that we were together and tried to be nice from then on. We were browsing sticks so the ginger came over to try and sell some, hahaha gtfo, not from you! Overall the situation sucks, because this is the only real stand-alone hockey store in Raleigh. However, you're waaaay better off finding your way to one of the ice rinks with the in-house shops. read more

Love this place!! The staff is so friendly and knowledgable. As someone who is just starting in hockey as an adult, they took the time to educate me on all the different types and fits of equipment, sticks and skates. Glad to hear they moved in to the Factory in Wake Forest too!! read more
