This is the disgusting shower when we checked into our room
    Ang S.

Something is not right at 5 Palms. Seven months ago, it was the place to be. Now, the rooms are disgusting, housecleaning does not clean, staff doesn't bring you towels or sheets when requested, and no one ever smiles. Why is the staff here so angry every single day?? There are only a few staff members who actually smile - Sonia, purple hair lady, skinny Filipino lady, deaf glasses man, and a man who works in the kitchen area. Trust me, I know, since we basically live here for almost a month each assignment. Other than that, everyone else, including the manager, are super rude and I can't believe they're in the line of hospitality. I believe the management has changed and it shows significantly. I am a military wife and mom of two babies and every morning, the manager here always rolls her eyes without any empathy when she sees us. I even offered her poi mochi donuts as I did for her staff to TRY to make her smile, and she still didn't. I don't know any manager in hospitality who rolls her eyes or always has a RBF except this place. Example 1 of manager: when we are going down for some cereal, I was struggling to come down wearing a 25lb baby and holding a 50lb toddler's hands down the stairs to make sure he doesn't fall. By the time I got to the kitchen area, my toddler had a major blow out (up his whole back), so Sonia (the sweetest attendant ever!) wrapped our food on the table and told me to go change him since it was a bit of an emergency. I had to take both my babies all the way up to the room to change his diaper, give him a shower, a new diaper, and new outfit. By the time I came back down, it was 10am and I quickly fed both of them, and left the hotel for the day, but the manager passed us by and rolled her eyes again. Example 2 of manager: since my toddler was not feeling well, I asked the front desk women (two Filipino ladies) to mop, vacuum, and clean the room since it was filthy when we first arrived. They only clean rooms ON Mondays and Wednesdays, and they NEVER actually do any cleaning (no vacuum or mopping, no new sheets r towels); everything is just used towels and folded, and sinks/toilets still dirty! Absolutely disgusting! This is why I wrote a note to housekeeping to leave new towels and extra sheets so we could cover their absolutely disgusting couches to prevent my babies from rubbing their faces on them. Apparently, per the manager, we cannot make any cleaning requests. When we stayed here several times before, the woman with the purple hair and another Filipino lady were very very kind and absolutely a pleasure to deal with - they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and our rooms were sparkling clean, especially because we have two babies. Seven months ago, this place was super clean, breakfast seemed fresher, staff never complained and always willingly did extra cleaning and offered more towels and sheets. This month, no one ever cleans our rooms on the only days they do housecleaning (Monday and Wednesday), no one ever leaves the right amount of clean towels and sheets, and the rooms are always filthy, which is causing my mom anxiety level to be at its highest with my babies. Additionally, my husband had to kill and throw away a cockroach in our room - we are never ever staying at this filthy place again. Summary: absolutely disgusting rooms on arrival, overly rude and inconsiderate manager, bugs and gross couches, mold in bathroom and on air conditioner, most of the staff does not listen or respond to requests (ie extra towels/sheets), housekeeping is lazy and leaves the rooms filthy on the ONLY two days out of the week that they're supposed to clean. Who wants to stay at a gross place with rude/judgmental staff? Not us.

It was held in the Waialae Ballroom on a Saturday afternoon with lunch being served for all the guests. What a beautiful location where you can see the lush garden just outside, the pacific ocean was a few yards away when you're done eating, you're free to roam the area and see the beautiful architecture and structure of this fabulous hotel. I was not able to play tourist as this party had to end by 2pm and I had commitments thereafter. But for future hotel guests information, they also have dolphins for you to see. The food here was incredible and of good quality. Good for any type of gatherings of any size breakfast, lunch or dinner. Bartenders and service at the bar was even better! The amount of attention every table was receiving was amazing, glasses were never empty and always started with a full pour. Self parking was completely full, although valet parking service was a better idea. Keep in mind this is a full service 5 star property located in Kahala/Waialae. Would love to be a hotel guest one of these days just to say I've stayed at The Kahala Resort.

What a gorgeous hotel. It's no wonder why celebrities vacation here at this hotel and resort while on Oahu.

That's where the good ends. The bathroom isn't great, there isn't a light over the shower so it's quite dark in there, plus it wasn't draining well so our showers were turning into baths. Room was pretty nice overall. We signed up for SUP, and it was my girlfriend's first time ever doing it. We expected someone from the resort to be there to show us the ropes and give us some information...there was absolutely nobody. We went searching for people, and the maintenance people didn't really say much of anything. We went into the Kahaluu bay area and I fell off my SUP once and ended up scratching up my leg and foot pretty bad...would have been nice to know the bay was only a few feet deep in some parts, with rocks on the seafloor to avoid. We also signed up for their big Saturday "Paradise Bay Experience Package" out to the reef to snorkel and to the sandbar to walk around. We signed up for a 10 am departure time. They called at 9:50 am to double check we were still going on the experience and I confirmed yes to checking out and yes to the experience. We went upstairs to checkout a few minutes later, and it took us a few minutes to do so because they said they wouldn't trust us to not return our towels and car parking pass after the experience, so we had to grab them RIGHT THEN. Okay fine, we bring those to them and notice from the front desk the boat for the experience literally leaving the dock at 9:58 am...WHY?!? I ask them and they say it was our fault, and we were supposed to be there at the boat 5 minutes early...NOBODY TOLD US THAT! Not when we signed up for the experience, and not in the follow-up email we received about it, which I'll attach below. So then they rush to call the boat captain to say to come back to the dock. You JUST called me 10 minutes prior and I said we were going on the experience, did you not communicate that with the boat staff? Clearly not. We end up jumping on the boat at 9:59 am after it had returned, so after all that hassle we were a minute early. No sorry from anyone, not even any acknowledgement from the boat staff. Long story short, this could easily be a 5-star hotel and experience if the hotel had a completely different staff, filled with people with more compassion, customers service skills, and a greater care for hospitality.

Our stay was at the beginning of May when the main pool was closed so the infinity pool was always packed with kids. There was an adult only pool that was always quiet and relaxing. We mainly stayed there for the most part. Food around the resort was good, but expensive. We did the luau, which was fun but very expensive and I would never pay that much again. We did it because it was on property and convenient. I think I booked it the first day I could 90 days out or something. It's open bar and prime rib, and some Hawaiian food. The lazy river is fun, and snorkeling in the reef was a blast. It was not cold at all.. took the free ukulele lessons, which was about a half an hour just to get the hang of it. Get the refillable cup it's worth the money. Also, buy a popcorn bucket and get three dollar refills. Try the breakfast flatbread ($20) at Ulu cafe-so yummy, and they have a daily special that we tried for dinner and it was so good! Ordered the lobster roll at the pool from Off The Hook, so worth it!! Also, don't forget the shaved ice! Reserve a cabana, very relaxing and fun. The actual water in the ocean in front of the hotel is cloudy murky and filthy with debris. I'm staying in Waikiki right across from the beach. The water is transparent. I've tried to go there three times didn't want to go the last time, but my niece and my adult children wanted to go. I had to pay $40 for parking because they're tiny public. Lots were all full. The whole place stinks of entitlement. I told my wife this is the last time I'm coming here.

We're not high-maintenance travelers--we simply appreciate the opportunity to spend quality time together, and every stay here creates lasting memories. One of our favorite conveniences is the ABC Stores on the property. They're reasonably priced and have surprisingly good sushi and poke bowls for a quick meal. This summer visit was noticeably busier than our fall stays. The pools were definitely crowded, and the village was packed with tourists. While people say tourism is down, that certainly wasn't our experience--it felt very lively throughout our stay. Instead of driving, we used Lyft to visit the Waikīkī International Market Place, which ended up being much cheaper than paying for parking and was well worth it. During this trip, we stayed in the Kalia Tower and loved our room's view overlooking the ocean, lagoon, harbor, and even the marketplace below. My husband also enjoyed using the fitness center. He mentioned it was busiest in the mornings and mid-afternoons, so evenings seemed like the best time to work out. One of the highlights of our stay was our daily feathered visitor--a pigeon that stopped by to greet us every day, which became a fun little tradition. Overall, we had another wonderful stay and made more great family memories. We're already looking forward to coming back again next year!

Hotel offers different types of pillows in the room and spare blanket in armoire. Also in the armoire is hangers, an ironing board and steaming iron, which came in handy for those wrinkled linen shirts mashed in my suitcase. The Bathroom. - one sink with a little counter top space but sufficient. The toilet was also bidet in the master bath. The shower pressure on 21st is ok but low, but it did the job. The Ac in room was awesome! It gets super cold, if you need it, quickly. It was nice for those hot humid days of walking in Waikiki. It had an In-room mini fridge and bar sink with 4 real drinking glasses, which I like. Hated there was no freezer in the mini fridge But the bell hop station offers to freeze ice packs, or whatever you need, for you. We had 3 sliding doors with west views and moderate views of Waikiki beach. The Second bedroom has own bath with also a single sink, toilet and shower- No bidet. The room/bedding/bathrooms were clean with no mold in the showers. The furniture showed a little wear but nothing excessive. The Elevators were fast! The pool, mangers reception and breakfast are all on the 4th Floor (terrace level). Breakfast was typical of Embassy Suites, I like the made to order omelette which makes it much better. Lots of fresh fruit and even some miso soup and other Japanese/Hawaiian offerings. The Staff was awesome and super friendly. I Used valet every day. Great service, fast and practical IMO but hard to swallow the daily fee. The hotel was attacked to the Waikiki beach walk. Island vintage coffee was a regular stop for coffee and sometimes breakfast. Order coffee or food to go online after 8am to save a ton of time standing in line. Hotel was Very close to all ththe shops. Awesome location. Much better location than Hilton Hawaiian village location!!! Our fav restaurant close by the hotel was Kana Pilla and Monkey Pod, which were across the street. Make sure to make Open Table reservations for both way ahead of time. I did mine 2 months out. Housekeeping willing to clean and supply new towels daily however linens are not cleaned but every 5 day, unless you request it, which they are happy to do! Views from 21st floor were awesome and all 21st floor rooms had extensive balconies. 3 sliding doors. Keep in mind Ac doesn't work, yes the fan blows, when the doors are open!! It's too humid at night to sleep with them open so we had them open for select times, mostly am. There's a Washer/dryer laundry room on site, 3rd floor only. It was Very convenient especially packing 4 days of clothes for a 10 day trip so our suitcases weren't stuffed . Use laundry room on sundays/mon or late evenings when people are too busy arriving and leaving. $5.25 to each wash load and I think $4.75 to dry. Washers only wash with cold which I like. Perm press on dryer seemed to dry all our shirts and socks well. We hung our nice Aloha shirts on the hangers in the room and they dried within a day. Washer and dryers take credit cards. Yes they're is a soap machine that also takes credit cards. I didn't use and just bought soap from ABC. ABC stores are EVERYWHERE so don't lug around suntan lotion or waters in your suitcase. Just buY at ABC which is only 20 steps away. FYI ABC doesn't no GIVE out bags for items unless you spend over a certain amount. ANC bags cost like .50 cents. ABC has Awesome poke and alcohol (spirit and beer) choices. Yes single purchase tall beers too. Don't forget the free brief fireworks show in front of the Hilton Hawaii Village on Friday nights only. We saw them set off at 7:45p by the lagoon. It's amazing how many people attend so be prepared for the crowds to and from. Big tip: make open table reservations for all your restaurants months ahead! All places are super busy until about 8:45 pm on most nights. Hope I helped.

We appreciated being "close to town", which in this neighborhood means proximate to Sharks Cove, the food truck mecca nearby that is co-located with North Shore Surf Shops outdoor hut that has rental gear, etc., AND of course Foodland. We stayed on-property in the Protea bungalow which is set back from the beach on this property and pretty close to Kamehameha Highway. Great unit - more space than the two of us needed; two day-beds on the deck were awesome for relaxing. It is noteworthy that you hear traffic out the windows and on the deck of this unit, so if you're a light sleeper, you may need to close windows at night. You will hear music booming frequently on your deck as some of the cars passing by love to share their tunes at hi-volume. For some reason during our stay we heard a rumbling noise from the adjacent unit at night and told Carly in management about it, but she never followed -up. The unit became occupied after a couple more days and the noise stopped probably because the new tenant shut off whatever was making the noise (maybe a ceiling fan with bad bearings?). From a hotel customer service standpoint, it was pretty good compared to Maui vacation club resorts. The pools and especially the waterslide are the highlights when it comes to amenities.
