Requested a quote for a battery replacement over the phone. They gave me a price. So I brought my car the next day and they finish the job. I called several other shops before this for a quote and they would not give me a quote for a battery replacement. Multiple shops wanted me to come in for a $100-$200 diagnosis for them to tell me what I already know. (I need a new battery). I feel that the shop was honest reliable and has good communication. Also, I feel like I was charged a fair price compared to other shops. Will definitely be back in the future. read more

We've taken our cars here for several years and after this week's FANTASTIC experience, I just had to get off my butt and write a review. Whether my wife or I take our cars in, they are always kind, thoughtful, helpful, non-judgmental, and specific with what's happening. They are clear communicators, following up after we drop off a car with information on anything new they learned that needs fixing. We trust them. Just this week they: 1. While I knew our serpentine belt needed replacing, they also found the water pump had a leak (bummer, but better to fix it now than later) 2. They identified a few other problems but were NOT at all pushy and are happy to help me take care of the "easy stuff" 3. When we dropped off the car, instead of just doing "whatever", Sam walked us through all the potential risks based on feedback and bulletins from other mechanics working on our car model. They weren't just going to fix whatever's broken, but clearly communicate and help us understand why 4. As I was picking up the car, they heard a new noise and before letting me drive off, the mechanic came out and tightened a loose bolt. Turns out that was a noise we've heard for a long time but I couldn't figure it out (this was over many months). Not only did they take care of it, but they went the extra mile to make sure we drove away happy, content, and solved a problem that had plagued me but couldn't resolve (and tightening the bolt was free, for the record) I really like taking our cars here and love their caring, honest service. I LOVE this place, and Samantha at the counter is so warm and helpful to my wife and I. We have been through some SERIOUS car issues over the years with our used Ford Escape, and 5 Star lived up top their name 100% with Five Star Service. They REALLY went out of their way to take care of the car and us. My 94 year old aunt who is hard of hearing has been takin her car here for years. Besides doing a great job on her cars they are kind and caring. Their prices are very very reasonable. I can not gush enough about this auto care service. It was about 4:30 and I was needing a smog ASAP. I went to 4 different places in the area and they looked at me as though I was CRAZY and denied me service. I got to Five Star auto about 5 min. to 5 and they gladly took my car. My car had to be rebooted for it to connect to their computers and they gave me step by step information for me to do that correctly. I was astounded at the attention and care that they gave me. Was at first impressed with 5 Star. Took my truck there for a Gold Shield required smog. Failed the visual test due to an idiot putting headers on my 96 Tacoma. I should have replaced them with a stock exhaust setup first. Told to come back after my truck was OEM. No Charge, Came back second time both with appointments, this time he didn't see the sticker on my CA legal air intake so he said come back when I have it applied. Visual fail again. Overall good service and they seem like an honest and affordable shop. read more

Wow. Took my car here because of the oil change special, which actually didn't apply because the car was too new at 2013 and required synthetic oil. I specifically wanted the inspections that came with the oil change because it was a recently purchased used car. When I paid I noticed I didn't get the inspection checklist that I get at the dealer oil change, but just some scribbled notes on a separate paper that they kept... I wasn't even given that. So I asked what the brakes were at and was told 60% all the way around. I knew that was odd because our brakes never wear that evenly. I was told they filled all fluids, so knowing the washer fluid was completely dry when I went in, I checked it and it was still completely dry, so I was LIED to. The only saving grace was that the front desk lady tried to make it right by checking the brakes herself ( which came back differently than I was first told) and she filled the washer fluid. Bottom line, the person who did the oil change was flatout DISHONEST. I will NOT return. read more

This shop is terrible! My mother in law went in with her older car and they charged her more then the car was worth to fix it. In fact is still ran terrible and they charged her $1,100. She is I her 70's and on a fixed income. She told them she didn't want to spend much. They did the "repairs" without even asking. Terrible !!!! read more

When I pulled into the very crowded parking lot parked my car in the only space available. One of the mechanics apparently wanted me to move, so instead of politely asking me or getting out of his car and instructing me he just sat in his car and blasted the horn. At that point the only thing I could do is drive around to the back where it was going to turn around. He followed me back there and yelled at me that I didn't belong back there. I have been going to 5star since the 2000's. I have seen things turn out good, but over the last at least 7 yrs. they seem to return it to you with more problems. I needed a smog check which was fine I knew it had some smoke coming out. The past it for re-registration, then 3 months later it was still running great and the said because of the smoke they couldn't pass it. Fine I could accept that , what got me irate is , it running smoothly and well when I brought it in, an hour later I take it on Hwy 49 , the first gear and second are shaking and missing. At a stop the idle drops to the point that it feels like it will die.. the. check engine light comes on. So I take it back , Jay tries to tell me it's a bad valve , I told him if he took a always good running car in and just then all these problems arise he'd know it was the machanic's / shops fault. ( there are not coincidences like that. ) They try to get me to spend hundreds more on diagnostics, etc. I watched them play games like that with my roommate, they told her this loud noise she reported was "normal" then right before summer said it's because it needs a air conditioner pump... which was around 1200.00$ . Beware the first time deals. Then they start to sink their claws in. They are a scam. They have lost 5 decades long costumers, please beware they'll suck you dry. read more

Brought my truck here to figure what the issue my truck was having from 2 codes and I was told to ask for Jay. Since I already knew what the codes were (P0171 too lean on bank 1 and P0401 EGR inefficient) they were gonna charge me an hour to diagnose it and figure out what the problem is, so I drop the truck off in the morning. I was hoping to expect a call about the problem around noon but got no call, around 3:30 I was told the truck should be done by 5 and that I would get a call. I ended up not getting a call but I decided to still go there anyways, there I was told by Jay that they fixed one of the codes (the P0401 turned out to be a bad vaccum line to the egr valve) but the other one they couldn't and we're gonna try replacing the mass air flow sensor in the morning which I was kind of confused why they would keep my truck over night without telling me but I wanted this problem fixed so bad I didn't care. Next day I don't get a call at all which started to upset me finally I called again at 3:30 and was told Jay wasn't there and that he'd call me in an hour, an hour went by and no call. So I went to the shop after 4:30 and was told that the reason why it took so long to figure out if it was the mass air flow sensor was because it didn't come in till around 4 and that it didn't fix the problem so they checked the timing and told me the timing marks on the harmonic balancer weren't matching up and that I should start there and they were giving me my truck back. So at this point I was a little mad and worried because they only fixed one of the problems and they had the truck for 2 days so I thought I'd be overcharged but Jay only charged me a half hour mainly for the egr vaccum line replacement and that made up for the lack of communication and showed how much of cool and helpful mechanic he is. The question is would I recommend people to Five Star Auto? Yes, even though I felt the communication from them to me was poor and they were gonna do things with my truck without letting me I still was satisfied with the service and with the help Jay provided to me read more

Completely misled on the price of a smog. Was told over the phone that it was $50.00 out the door including certificate. I then told him that I had a $20.00 off coupon I got in a local coupon mailer and he said no problem. So the total price out the door should have been $30.00. When it came time to pay for the smog he said it was $50.00 total. I told him I had the coupon for $20.00 off he then said that's $50.00 for the smog with the coupon. No where on the coupon does it state that nor did he ever say that when I said I had a $20.00 off coupon. If he would have said the original cost of the smog was $70.00 up front I would have laughed and said no thanks. $70.00 for a regular smog test with certificate for the area I live in is an absolute rip off. I could have driven 4 miles up the road and got it done for around $35.00 out the door. Will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. read more
