The last honest auto repair shop! Nuts & Bolts Auto repair is clean, honest family owned business. Their prices are fair and their customer service is outstanding. Several years ago we had our Acura Integra towed to an auto repair shop, close to nuts and bolts. We were told by the owner that the head gasket had melted, and it wouldn't be worth fixing. He graciously went on to offer us a ridiculously low price to buy our Integra from us. Wanting a second opinion, we had the car taken to Nuts and bolts. The owner took a look at the car, called us with an estimate, and repaired it for us. Price was fair and the service was fast and thorough. A few months later, the mechanic, we originally took the car to built himself house on the lake! Clearly, the car was not a total loss. I can't help but wonder how many other customers that guy swindled. Nuts and bolts earned my trust and respect, so I don't hesitate to highly recommend them. They really know how to run a business and take care of customers. read more

I used to be a very satisfied customer with regard to Nuts and Bolts. I happily recommended them for about four years to everyone I met who inquired about a good mechanic. That is until they completely screwed me over. My car had over heated so I had it towed to their shop so they could check it out and hopefully fix it. After they did the initial inspection and supposedly checked it over, I was told it was going to need all manner of parts replaced in order for it to be "fixed". What I was NEVER told and what was NEVER checked for in the first place, was that the heads had been warped. I found out about the warped heads three months later, AFTER I spent $2,400 to have all these new parts put in, only to have my car constantly overheat still or spew coolant all over the ground anytime I drove anywhere. I brought my car back in time and time again and each time I was told it was fixed. First it was supposedly a bent radiator cap. Then it was, I just needed a little more coolant added. Finally, after about three months of this, and on my final visit to their shop, the mechanic FINALLY decides to do a block test which reveals that the heads had been in fact WARPED the entire time. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Then he has the nerve to tell me "I don't know how much more money you want to put into this car, but you should just get a bottle of gasket sealer and trade it in." I asked him "Did this happen when my car first over heated?" His answer, "Yes". He tells me this AFTER the $2,400 is spent and sitting in their bank. I was in shock. I left the shop in a daze and it wasn't until I got home that the full ramifications of everything hit me. They had more than enough opportunity to make things right with me but instead, they chose to take the low road and gouge an otherwise very loyal customer. At this point I went to the B.A.R. and filed a complaint and in the end they were only fined with a clerical error for not divulging everything to me before any of the work was done. And since it was their first offense it won't show up on their B.A.R. record. Apparently, in the auto industry it's up to the mechanic as to whether or not they want to actually perform a block test to see if your heads are in fact warped after your car has overheated. They call it a "Grey Area". Well, I called no less than 6 shops and every one of them said "Yes" they would have DEFINITELY performed some type of test to see if the heads were warped BEFORE any work was done. I was told by each of the other shops that there are in-fact, test that can be done BEFORE any work needs to be done that won't jeopardize the vehicle that may or may not have warped heads. Ultimately, I'm out $2,400 and a car. You would do well to stay far away from this business because in the end, loyal customers don't matter. Only what they can get out of them. read more

Danielle sets the bar for how a small business should be run. She has an excellent phone manner & handles all inquiries in a down-home, no-nonsense style. She is very friendly, but she is also a serious businesswoman, & she strikes that balance perfectly. I brought my car in for a routine oil change, but I asked her with trepidation what price range I'd be looking at for a 90,000 mile maintenance. She immediately researched & informed me of all my options, all of which were hundreds below quotes I'd received elsewhere. Danielle has excellent & immediate communication with the shop, & the entire experience left me feeling that my vehicle was in good hands. WARNING! Do not take your car here if you have an aftermarket warranty. They are not knowledgeable about these companies policies and it could result in them charging you more that the warranty company will pay. In my case it was a Transmission problem and they are NOT set up to do the job the way the dealers or other Tranny shops are. This resulted in them charging more hours to do the job. Danielle had no problem passing this cost on to me. She would not budge. Also the warranty company had offered to send them the transmission BUT Danielle went with one of her suppliers instead resulting in a $2000 up charge. After I found out that was the case I called the warranty company and they said they would send them the transmission but they declined. When I confronted Danielle about this she said "I was unaware" BUT she said the extra costs would still be $1200 instead of $3000 because they would have to pull the engine. I was informed by the warranty co AND other transmission shops AND the dealers that it did not have to be removed. They lacked the expertise to do it this way. Needless to say that since they had done the diagnosis the warranty co said I would have to have them finish the job to cover the expense to that point Or they would not cover just the diagnosis. It still was less expensive to take the hit on the diagnosis and take it to another shop. Very dissatisfied with this entire thing. I was a customer from the start of their business and the only other problem I had with them was they left a sensor disconnected after a gasket replacement on my pick up. I brought my van in to have it overhauled since it had been sitting for awhile in our garage. After Rob (the mechanic) looked at it, I was given an estimate of what everything would cost. I agreed to the estimate, went home and then never heard back for over a week! Eight days to be exact. I called, and the lady that answered said that they had been slammed all week and hadn't had a chance to get to my van yet! WHAT?! No phone call, nothing! I guess my old van wasn't important enough for them to care about?! Since when does a paying customer not matter? I was never told that they were too backed up to be able to get to my van until over a week later when I was in the shop. If I had known that, I would've gone somewhere else! Besides all that, when I first took my van in, there was only one other truck in the whole shop! so, I said never mind, I'm going to come get my van. And the lady says, that's fine. We'll leave it out front, and hung up! I don't know how long these people think they're going to be around treating customers like that, but my advice, take your business somewhere were they actually care about the customer and what they do! Update: Apparently, whenever this business gets a bad review, they suddenly " have no records of that customer ". How convenient for them. This is a very poorly run business run by dishonest people. I brought my 1984 diesel Ford truck here one Sunday, because they were the nearest open place. After 3 weeks, they charged me $1,600 to replace a part that did nothing, as well as having me rebuild a perfectly good starter for $170. Eventually I had the truck towed to another mechanic who promptly got the truck running and promptly discovered that the problem was that the engine had been shot due to low oil. Basically, Nuts and Bolts misdiagnosed the problem drastically and charged me almost more than the truck's worth for extraneous parts and labor. They are unqualified, dishonest thieves who give all mechanics their bad name. read more

Took me for hundreds of dollars and never fixed the problem. Was told the work was a guess at best. Story told to me at front office completely didn't match story told by mechanic!! Clearly the lies were thick. Car never died on us even though we drove it for over "a hundred miles" Then told my mechanic. Car did die in there parking lot by the person who had just said it never died!! Kept my vehicle over a week the first time in. Then as long when it died again and took back. Nickel and dimed just to pay a small fortune and be told none of the estimated cost will go towards final price. I payed. Drove off. Car died. Towed back to a professional dealership. I scheduled a simple oil change, tire rotation and a flat tire fix a few days in advance. The service was both personable and professional. All three maintenance issues were addressed within a one hour period. I even had a few minutes to discuss the condition of the oil, the status of the rear disc brake pads and rotors and even received a ballpark price for an overdue timing belt replacement. Hi my husband Toyota Tacoma 1998 had a bad crankshaft pulley it's the harmonic balancer wasnt balanced right so took it in . And the mechanic charged $400 for new belts and spraying cleaner on terminals battery and new door handles? But he Never fixed the harmonic balancer.. Husband was driving to work the next day and belts fell off the truck was over heating. It was not, we took back several times and come to find out certain things were not done and the car still overheated and had a blown head gasket. What an AMAZING shop!! I had brought my car to a shop in Roseville becuase my check engine light was on and was told my car would be close to $2,000 to repair! And being a college student that was almost undoable. The very next day, driving home from school it finally broke down on the side of 49. And by chance Rob and Danyelle drove by, saw me, turned around and came to make sure I was ok or needed any help. He told me he couldn't diagnose on the side of 49 but would go get the trailer from the shop and tow me back for free! I told Rob what the other shop had told me and was even able to show him their report. After the diagnosis, he found that the issue was a bad ignition coil. When the other shop said it was a transmission problem. I was back on the road for about $400!! What a HUGE improvement!! When she told my it was going to be $2400.00 I fell out of their stool!, these people are out of their minds, I thought!, I was determined to find a better price and did about a $1700.00 less. Very dissatisfied with the overall workmanship professionalism or lack of lack of experience of the techs. They told me they had hired a guy and tried him on my truck s engine install to see if he would work out. Apparently not Danielle told me he was fired after my truck was finished. My truck over heated after install was told it was not overheating it was the guage, They did not tighten bolts on bracket at and around the alternator thus causing a horrible squeal I was told was a pully that needed replacing Nott!!!!!! Then another mechanic found the shabby workmanship done by the terminated tech to be the loose bolts that were not even finger tightened Electrical connections air conditioning and three other harness were not connected Hoses were not connected and used old wires for plugs not the ones supplied and found not plug in Also. charged to top off fluids which wasn't done only fluids filled were brakes They told me they would start the job as soon as the engine arrived, when the engine arrived and had to be installed within 10 days to activate the warranty they waited another 5 days to start the job therefore not enough time to have my front seal on tranny replaced while engine was out. Did not replace exhaust seal at engine thus causing exhaust leak although I paid for the seal. When I returned with truck over heating I was told it was not overheated it was just a bad gauge although the gauge went down as it cooled and three other mechanics in the same complex told me they heard a noise and it was hot. Noise was R exhausted seal was not in. Returned again with the truck to be told to leave take it home and come back in a week. and it was not getting hot it was the guage. Wrong !!!!!! Was told by several neighbors in the business area not to do business there after the work was done to late. They do not have good reputation and I saw that by how many unhappy customer were there they couldn't even find the customers car keys time and time again. Also was told their reviews are not by customers but their own reviews of themselves but they do use the cars they repaired as a reference not the quality of repair Also told that there break special was used to get people in and start finding other problems cha ching cha ching. I paid over almost 4,000 for this repair. This is a warning !!!!!! read more

scotty is listed on craigslist as an auto mechanic with extended hours saying let me see how i can help you. well my mom had her car towed to him with a leak of brown nasty coolant scotty said he wanted to make sure and verify the problem but we suspected heater core scotty stated he had previous experience it could be heater core intake manifold or a meatal heater tube said heater core could be 300 to 350 heater tube could be 200 and if it was intake near 800 but he did not want to get carried away wanted to do the right thing and diagnosis the problem next morning i get the call from scotty saying he could not reach my mom and he wanted to go over pricw with me he stated it was the heater core and the metal heater tube and it was going to be 700 i nearly fell over but i gave him the benefit let him explain and he said the job was deeply detailed with discharge and recharge of the a/c and the car needed the metal vent tube and a power flush because the coolant was never changed ever we went back and forth regarding the labor guide had a discussion about alldata wich has the labor guide that lists how many hours of labor he can charge for the job and i work for a company that has access to repair and replace procedures and the labor guide and in closing the conversation i told him i would talk to my mother at 700 and asked him clearly again thats the final price he said yes we even talked about by-passing heater core and he quoted 300 so i talked to my mom she agreed to the 700. but this is where the breakdown comes in scotty proceded to call my mother says he had an hour long conversation expalined to her it would now be 900 she agreed after the conversation and scotty with her verbal approval and nothing in writing sent his wife to get a 300 dollar deposit and proceeded to fix the car. i am not in hammond indiana but i trust my mother and she says the cars a/c never worked as cold as it does now the car runs perfect and she says he did ëxtra work"like taking a door panel off and trying to pound out a dent. i have no complaints with scottys work or his timeliness of getting work done. my complaint is 2 fold nothing in writing and the final bill lists parts like 2 gallons of coolant t stat heater tube no hourly rate no parts versus labor breakdown now i have to be extremely forthcoming here this is 100% my fault i am not there to help my mother and i recomeneded scotty from a childhood friend from when i grew up in indiana and the problem is scotty says my mom is happy and its not my car i did not pay for the job it was my moms decision and her car and i agree but my mom is the nicest sweetest person you ever would meet and takes people at face value and with me not getting an in writing estimate and me not being there these kinds of things happen my mom is happy she says she is is alittle upset with how scotty treated me and the scenario of what happened and she would never use him again and I THINK THE LESSON HERE IS THE SAME OLD ONE THAT DATES BACK FROM DAY ONE GET IT IN WRITING. TO ME SCOTTYS PROBLEM IS COMMUNICATION I CALLED HIM TO DISCUSS THE FINAL BILL AND HOW IT SAYS PARTS AND LABOR 900 NO BREAKDOWN NO HOURLY RATE AND HE GOT DEFENSIVE SAID MY MOM IS HAPPY SAID THE A/C NEVER WORKED SO GOOD BUT COULD NOT ANSWER SIMPLE QUESTIONS WHAT WAS HIS HOURLY LABOR RATE HOW MANY LABOR HOURS WAS THE JOB WHAT DID PARTS COST BASICALLY GOT DEFENSIVE SAID HE WAS NOT HAVING THIS CONVERSATION WITH ME I SAID I WAS NOT LETTING THIS GO NICELY PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS HE SAID HE WILL NOT BE THREATENED AND HUNG UP ON ME. I FEEL THE NEED TO EXPLAIN MY MOTHER CARES FOR MY 80 PLUS YEAR OLD GRANDMOTHER WITH CANCER AND NEEDS A DECENT CARE TO TRAVEL FOR DOCTORS MY MOM DOES LIKE DRAMA AND JUST PAID THIS BILL BUT WOULD NEVER USE HIM AGAIN NOT MUCH I CAN DO IM NOT THERE NOT MY CAR AND I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO BE CAREFULK GET IT IN WRITING SCOTT DID GOOD WORK ACCORDING TO MY MOM IN A TIMELY MANNER HE DOES NOT LIKE TO BE QUESTIONED AND WHEN ASKED SIMPLE QUESTIONS HE GETS FRUSTRATED AND SAYS UR MOM IS HAPPY THE DEALER WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE BUT IT IS ALL NOT RELEVANT I ASKED FOR A PRICE AND A BREAKDOWN AND AN HOURLY LABOR RATE AND GOT HUNG UP ON PLEASE BE CAREFUL GET IT IN WRITING LAST FINAL THING HE DID SAY HE CHARGES 90 DOLLARS AN HOUR LABOR AND IT DOES NOT ADD UP WITH THE LABOR GUIDE AND PARTS PRICES IF HIS LABOR RATE WAS 100 read more
