Boat limit of yellowfin caught offshore of Ensenada MX

My first experience using a processor and it was fantastic. Five Star handled everything from the time we got off the boat until we picked up our order a few days afterwards. To be honest I was nervous when the captain announced we were done fishing, heading back to the landing and that a processor would be available at the dock (rather than cleaning fish on the boat which is what I've been accustomed to). Extremely satisfied with Five Star! They're a well oiled machine and very organized. We'll definitely be using them again for those larger catches, they do it well for sure.

Last weekend I booked a fishing trip at the last minute. When I showed up at the dock with my 254 lbs of bluefin tuna I approached the table set up for Five Star. The representative told me I wouldn't get same day service but they would take my fish, clean it, put it in vacuum sealed bags and freeze it even though I didn't make a reservation. I was so relieved because they wouldn't have fit in my car. I highly recommend that you make a reservation, especially if you want same day service. When I went to pick it up the front desk was courteous, answered all my questions and one of the workers helped me load it into the coolers I brought. This service really made the experience more enjoyable and I'll be enjoying this catch for a while.

Very professional, they answer the phone! Unlike Fisherman processing , who do not and wants you to text them. I was on the water by San Clemente island when finally I was able to get two bars of reception. I called Five Star. They immediately answered the phone and were able to take my reservation for 5 AM the next morning without hesitation. They made it simple, efficient and easy. I asked for next day pick up and was called at 10am the next morning with a "your fish is ready for pick up." They even loaded it up in my truck for me. Fisherman's processing lost a customer. Five star gained one ! I recommend Five Star to anyone and everyone!

Facility was clean and everyone polite, so no complaints there. However, I turned in 79lb & 37lb whole Bluefin from a Fishermans Landing trip. On pickup, yield seemed light with only 2 trays of fillets. When I got home I looked at the bellies. If you look at picture it really looks like portions are missing. I sent email politely requesting if this yield appeared correct......no response. I weighed total and came out to approx 37%, close to their advertised 40% yield. What's crazy is when I fillet myself, I yield over 60%. I would not be surprised if these companies first fillet your fish then count out ~40% of fish to give you and who knows what happens to the rest? Anyone else have similar experience?? I'll be looking for other other processors in the future or go back to doing myself.

She didn't make us feel rushed despite the growing line behind us (we were truly trying to hurry, though, because of it). If you like sashimi, get their sashimi appetizer! We haven't been able to find a good place for sashimi since we moved to Southern California 5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, we've gotten good sashimi, but not cut thick & with good quality that is worth the price like this place. The price wasn't even as high as many of the other sashimi places we've tried! They give you only 2 fish choices on the plate, however. They have listed about 5 or 6 different kinds, but it depends on what is available. We had salmon & tuna. Salmon is my favorite, but their tuna was fantastic! First time I can say I may have liked it better than the salmon!! Their other dishes we had were also yummy. My daughter loves scallops & they were cooked to perfection. I don't usually like scallops because most places cook them till they're rubbery. Not this place! My husband had swordfish & I had the sea bass. Both were also delicious, but I think they may have mixed up which plate went to which person. Good thing, as we were trying each others' food, my daughter noted the slight texture difference between the two (I hadn't had a chance to taste them yet). Interestingly, swordfish usually has a vastly different texture than bass, but here, they cook it so well, there wasn't a huge amount of difference! That says something since swordfish is usually very "meaty." If my daughter hadn't noticed, I wouldn't have complained even though I was looking forward to the bass. I like flakier fish. However, the bass wasn't as flaky as I anticipated, but both were so tender, the mix-up wasn't a deal breaker. I don't know how they season the rice, but YUM! Even though I'm Asian, I'm not one who usually eats the rice. It's usually just a filler for me, & since I don't eat much, I'd rather eat the "other stuff" & usually leave most of the rice. Not here! I almost couldn't get enough of it, lol! So good!! At the end, we needed boxes. We had to ask two different waitresses since the first one we asked never came with them. It's an "order at the register then find a table" type of place, so there wasnt any "service" to speak of. Be prepared to stand in line - this place is popular for a reason! Parking is a challenge, but worth it. We definitely will be back!

They've ordered everything from sushi to fried shrimp or smoked fish from the case or creamed herring, so much to choose from. I had to go do a wellness check, as I just love me a Scallop Sandwich. Pulling into the parking area, everything still seemed in place, hard to find parking, regardless of how busy or not busy Point Loma Seafoods is. After parking, we walked into a relatively short line, and my brain immediately went to "Oh No, maybe it is true". We were called to order rather quickly, and I ordered my Scallop sandwich, my wife ordered the fish sandwich based on the employee recommendation, we also ordered onion rings based on his recommendation, and a bowl of clam chowder, just because, well we both really miss the clam chowder from Fish House Vera Cruz (RIP). While waiting for our order, we browsed the large glass case fronts full of freshly caught seafoods, live tanks of lobsters and crabs, and a full selection of in house smoked fish. While there was seating outside, we decided to grab a seat inside, next to a window. The general ambiance of this place is quiet, quick, seafood warehouse, sitting right by the water, it's just an overall beautiful place to eat at. There is no air of elitist here, people are not dressed up with reservations, with fancy waiters and table service, no, this is like a giant workplace cafeteria feeling, just overall a very relaxed atmosphere. We didn't have to wait long for our food, maybe 15 minutes. Let me give you a food-by-food rundown for what we ordered. New England Clam Chowder | 8oz Cup $6.03 -I would pass on this next time, while the texture was great, the taste was disappointing to me, quite fishy tasting. Scallop Sandwich | Lightly Breaded Eastern Dry Pack Scallops, Market Price, I think MP was around $17.99 -Amazing, just as good as the last one, the lightly breaded scallops were melt in your mouth delicious, left me longing for my next venture here. Fish Sandwich | Lightly Breaded Alaskan Cod $14.99 -Great sandwich, flaky, tender, again the breading was on point, zero fishy taste, I will stick with my Scallop sandwich but would not be mad eating another of these! Onion Rings | $6.03 - Ok so go to a seafood place, loaded with all sorts of fresh fish and order onion rings? I cannot be happier for this recommendation by the gentleman/fish monger taking our order, these onion rings are SO good. I would go here for the onion rings alone! *All sandwiches are served on fresh sourdough bread, with Mrs. Kelly's tartar sauce. The bread has such a nice bite to it and accompanies both the scallops and fish so well. Mrs. Kelly's tartar sauce, spread on the bread gave that nice crisp, balance and is the perfect, and only condiment needed. Glad that we came in, as this place is just, so good still, and that makes me, and my mouth, happy!

Hands down the best product I have ever received!!!…read more For three decades, I have been blessed to fish on long range trips out of San Diego, from Catalina to Clipperton, and everywhere in between. I've seen it all, and I can say without a doubt that the product that I just received from Fisherman's Processing is the very best in the industry. That rainbow, iridescent hue of light diffraction is the proof right there. Solid omega 3's, and it all starts with the processing on the Royal Star. The crew is dedicated to Shinkei Jime, proper bleeding, cleaning, and immediately getting each and every tuna into the RSW. On my most resent 16 day trip, not once did I see any fish on the deck for more than just a few minutes. Even during the hot bites with fish constantly coming over the rail. The crew's work ethic is clear. Not only do they want you to have a great time and catch the fish of a lifetime, but they sincerely want to produce the highest quality product achievable. Who wouldn't want share the very best product with friends and family? Thank you to the Royal Star and Fisherman's Processing. I called them on a Sunday morning, they immediately answered the phone and helped me to locate my fish because I was not sure which boat they came in on. They checked the status and my fish was cut but not frozen per the instructions given by my fisherman friend. I arrived shortly before closing to give the fish as much time in their freezers as possible. Staff was bustling with lots of activity after a busy weekend but they were friendly and efficient. I went into the office and saw my favorite poke spice so I picked up a pouch of that as well. Minutes later a friendly lady brought out a rack of fish and loaded it into my cooler and packed it with ice. I tipped her and was on my way quickly. When I got home I realized how clean the cuts were on the fish. I believe they get about 30% yield which is understandable as there are many bones, blood lines and skin that is not saved. I am not sure if you can negotiate to have any of that stuff saved if you like to make fish stock or have spoiled kitties like I do. My kitties are even more spoiled now as they received the 5* portion of the fish for their treats instead of scraps.
