This time, something had clearly changed. They charged me $99 just to provide a quote and then tried to turn a simple, clearly diagnosed repair into a massive upsell, with multiple wildly inflated proposals that had little to do with the problem I called about. Before they arrived, I had already done my own troubleshooting and correctly determined that I needed a new T&P valve, a new expansion tank, and a whole‑house pressure‑reducing valve. It was a straightforward, targeted repair. Instead of focusing on that, Hoffman gave me five quotes: Replace all plumbing (supply and drain) plus the water heater, expansion tank, and pressure regulator: $35,611.00 Replace all supply plumbing plus the water heater, expansion tank, and pressure regulator: $23,874.00 Replace all supply plumbing but not the water heater: $20,365.00 Replace just the water heater, expansion tank, and pressure regulator: $4,800.00 Finally, the work I actually called about (and I had to ask specifically for this quote because it was not given)--replacing the pressure regulator, T&P valve, and expansion tank--dismissively labeled the "bandaid option": $2,180.00 That last number was for the exact repair I had already identified myself. I later bought the parts and did that "bandaid option" on my own for about $150 in materials. Seeing a roughly fifteen‑times markup on such a basic, well‑defined repair, after being talked down to, made it crystal clear they were pushing high‑dollar, out‑of‑scope work rather than providing fair, proportional service. The attitude matched the pricing. Instead of respecting that I understood my system and wanted a targeted fix, the plumber treated me as if I were clueless. The underlying message was obvious: don't just repair what's wrong--let us replace as much as possible for tens of thousands of dollars. About a week later, I received a voicemail from Hoffman asking when I wanted to schedule the work. I called back and explained why I would not be moving forward: the extreme quotes, the mismatch between what I requested and what was pushed, and the fact that I had already completed the repair myself. The person on the phone showed no empathy, offered no apology, and simply said she would close out the call. A couple of days after that, I got a text from the same person, clearly forgetting that we had already spoken: "We'd love to earn your business. What's holding you back from moving forward? If it's the price, we offer financing and may have discounts available. Text me back or call anytime. I'm here to help!" After being quoted up to $35,611.00 for work I never asked for and $2,180.00 for a repair I did myself for about $150, receiving a chipper financing pitch was beyond frustrating--it was insulting. It told me they either weren't listening at all or didn't care enough to track a very clear, negative response. In short, my one‑star review is based on: Extremely inflated quotes: $35,611.00, $23,874.00, $20,365.00, $4,800.00, and $2,180.00 for a $150 repair. A condescending attitude toward the appropriate, targeted repair ("bandaid option"). Tone‑deaf, sales‑driven follow‑up that ignored my explicit decision not to proceed. I did not hire Hoffman Plumbing for this job and have no intention of doing so in the future. If you value honest pricing, appropriate recommendations, and being treated like an informed adult instead of a walking checkbook, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with this handyman, and I strongly urge others to never hire him. I initially hired him to install high-end remote-controlled blinds, and from the start, things went downhill. He missed the first appointment without any communication, leaving me waiting around wondering what was going on. When he finally showed up the next day, I wish he hadn't. The installation was a complete disaster. He left marks all over my walls, clearly showing a lack of care or skill. Instead of using the proper tools for the job, he was fumbling around with a basic screwdriver--on expensive, delicate blinds! To make matters worse, he damaged my window sill and drywall, turning what should have been a simple project into a costly repair job. We have a brand new house and he had said it was us that did this. How? When I confronted him about the damage, he had the audacity to deny everything, refusing to take any responsibility for the mess he created. It's clear to me that this man is unprofessional, careless, and dishonest. Don't waste your time or money--hire someone who actually knows what they're doing and cares about their clients' homes. I received an updated invoice today saying invoice is now due today. Perhaps the original invoice was a typo, if so, the owner MUST inform the consumer of that mistake and agree to the changes. They can not make a unilateral change without notice. As a consumer, you have every right to question what was done and how long a job took. I ask everyone this, if you have a truck snow plow, does it take 1 hour to move the snow on the end he of the road that leads into a driveway? Doubt it. Again, readers of this review, you decide for yourself. I never have any problems of paying invoices, but when I feel I'm being over billed I will request for full validation and justification. Again, I have used James and his services for over 4 years so I was a happy customer until this recent event so this is not a fake review. ---------------- I'm updating my review based upon a recent dealing with this company. I call and requested a one time plow after the storm. I've attached before and after pictures along with the invoice I received. Long story short, very dishonest in how they conduct themselves. James is the owner and he's stretched way too thin. He has this business plus a real estate company. When I received the invoice, it was for 2 individuals with 3 hrs of work plus one individual for a snow plow for an hour. I might be completely off base, but I'll let readers of this review decide for themselves after looking at the pictures if it warranted 3 hrs of work by 2 men and 1 hour of work by one other man with a plow. I emailed James asking for validation. His response was...."Ive already given a $5 per man hour discount". I wasn't asking about a discount. I wanted validation. If they did do 3 hrs of work, I don't mind paying. I replied back to James asking for validation. His 2nd reply, "We dont do these neglected snow removal accts at all. I was reluctant because they are basically layers upon layers of ice. That is why we bill per hour". To my readers, it was close to 40deg on Friday, and yes there was approx 24-30 inches of snow piled up, but the underlayer was not completely frozen. I replied to James and said I will reluctantly pay the invoice and post on yelp. His unbelievable response...."We're sorry for that you're upset about the service you received we will discontinue all business with you in the future per your request thank you." I'll leave it all up to the readers to decide if they want to do business with a man and his company who can't even validate the work completed and is willing to brush off a once loyal customer. I will never use his services again.

What a lifesaver!…read more My family got put in a really tight bind last week. We moved from a four bedroom (w/roommates) place to a two bedroom. All of our roommates abandoned us with a house that was destroyed and an insane amount of garbage. There was no way we were moving out of there in the time we had and we were definitely not getting our security deposit back. One phone call and he was there within the hour. He pretty much completely renovated our old place, removed all of the junk and helped us move everything. He even helped us cheaply buy furniture for our new place and sell the old stuff. Whatever you need he's your guy!
