Way too expensive. I may be old fashioned and not attuned to Truckee prices (or from The City where tradespeople are much less expensive), but $470 for replacing a $35-40 thermostat is a bit steep, especially for a "local" company. If, as they claim, there is no extra charge for Reno techs coming to Truckee, then InMotion Mechanical must charge at a higher level for all its techs to cover the cost of using service people from Reno. And if the company system for scheduling is booked 30-60 days out for service requests in a manner that it can't accommodate routine service calls like a thermostat replacement without charging double the cost of parts and through the roof for an overtime "arrival" fee of $375, then something is wrong with its scheduling system. Arranged an annual service for our heater. The technician took the cover off and used his shop vac to clean it a little. He took a few pictures and stood around with his hands in his pockets the rest of the time. He didn't want to do a real service because he said the unit was old. I've had real technicians do complete services on much older units. i had the impression he didn't know what to do. I asked him for estimates to replace, which were never provided. They did sent the invoice though. read more

Horrible experience with these guys, would definitely recommend avoiding them if you can. They confirmed they'd help out with an urgent HVAC issue that affected my only source of heat. First they no showed when they confirmed they'd show up, then came at a different day than we talked about a week later with no heads up just to tell me they won't do the work the office told me they do regularly. I'm still without heat more than 2 weeks later and all they've done is waste a lot of my time and because they confirmed I had a contact to fix this I'm back at square one in finding someone to help on a short timeline. read more

We bought a Samsung mini split air conditioner and heater in June 2022 in our condo in Tahoe Donner in Truckee. All went well. We recently (August 2023) had an issue with the mini split. There were some issues with the initial service, however, in the end, the owner of the company came in on a service call and fixed it. In the end, I have a working furnace, removed dead equipment, and new thermostats. I have quotes for further work including a new hot water heater. So I am happy in InMotion, and would recommend them to anyone in Truckee. read more

Incompetent and overpriced....avoid at all costs! We used inmotion twice for our Truckee home in Lahontan. Both times they left without checking their work, leaving hot water and heat unavailable throughout the house. They refuse to answer phone calls, voicemails, or emails (typically it takes us 3 weeks to get a response from them). If you have an emergency due to their faulty work....good luck, you have to find another company. I've worked with 3 other Heating companies in Truckee and every one of them picks up their phone calls right away and will immediately help with emergencies. read more

$365 for a furnace inspection seemed like a bit much. I realize prices are higher in Truckee, but I get the same service here in Roseville for $75. Inmotion claimed to have spent 1.5 hours inspecting and cleaning the unit, but I find that hard to believe. They found the furnace to be functioning properly. My fault for not being there when the service was performed and trusting this company. I thought they would at least replace the year old dirty filter, but they found that to be clean and did not replace!!? Also, be prepared to pay a $25 fuel surcharge fee on top of the $250 initial arrival fee. They told me this was for their gasoline. The technician arrived with the heater off, but left with the heater on and set to 68. I didn't appreciate heating an empty house that we do not live in full time. The technician also felt it was fine to use 2 of our bathrooms and leave behind trash. I paid the invoice, but will never call inmotion again. read more

Our heater conked out on us in the middle of a HUGE snowstorm. I spent an entire morning trying to contact an HVAC company that might be able to provide service. The scheduler at InMotion was the first to respond and was able to put us the schedule for the same day! The technician diagnosed the issue and communicated the problem to me within the same afternoon. He let me know which part was needed, and he made sure the part was transported to our place in Truckee despite Highway 80 being closed. The technician showed up after hours the next day and was able to get the system operational once again. A HUGE thank you to the entire team at InMotion. I wish I could give them 6 stars. I urgently needed help - my water heater was not working and I was told it would be 10 days to get my part in. No hot water in winter - just horrible. I spent hours calling around and InMotion/Chad was one of the most responsive, professional and knowledgeable. I explained my situation and Chad got me in ASAP. Terrible service and follow-up. When Juan came by to look at my gas stove, I asked for an estimate of time to service and was told 3-4 hrs. When I asked for more time to think about whether or not I should get a new stove or fix the old one, I somehow ended up with a $194 bill (including charge for travel time?) with nothing fixed or changed. I waited and requested multiple times that Juan email me the name of the part needed to repair my gas stove as well as recommendations on new units that would suit my space. Never heard back from him. Will not use them ever again, and am going to send an update to my association to beware. read more

I have an old furnace which i thought was on its last leg of life. InMotion came on time to run through the maintenance for it and determined the furnace had additional year of life. With that, a plan was made for future improvements with a new furnace and duct work. I also had InMotion give me an estimate for a new tank water heater verses tankless water heater. I feel comfortable enough to have InMotion do the water heater job after this experience. read more

I agree with other reviewers here. It is extremely hard to find good service companies in the Tahoe area and Chad is amazing. We are so lucky to have found him and I would highly highly recommend him to anyone. As a first time Tahoe homeowner we had some bumps getting the house in order after we closed escrow. After getting our keys, we found out our heater was broken... in December during a cold spell. First we called another company in Tahoe (I will not name them here but I should given how they take advantage of people). This first company came out to "fix" our heater. They charged us an enormous bill, and actually LEFT our house with the heat still not working, demanding we pay them anyway. They came back again the next day to see why it was still not working, charged us ANOTHER bill and left the house again with the heater still not working. We were totally ripped off, feeling so frustrated and also still freezing our asses off. We found Chad online and gave him a call. He came over right away, at the end of his day, because we were so freezing cold in the house. He quickly fixed the problem!! Chad is amazing, he explained everything to us and he was less expensive than the other company. We had him come back another week later to install a separate heater in our second building. I used them to do a basic furnace inspection and maintenance. My furnace had not been serviced since it was installed about 25 years ago. It was functioning well but I wanted some piece of mind that it won't fail in the middle of winter and that there were no breaks in the ducting. The next morning after the service we had no hot water which means the water heater (which is right next to the furnace) must've broke while the technician was working on the furnace or within a short time around it (since it's a 50 gallon tank there was enough hot water for the rest of that day). I know it's possible that this is just a coincidence but it's a very unlikely one. In motion refused to take any responsibility whatsoever. They refused to even take a quick look. Also, over the week following the service the furnace began functioning worse. It got to the point that it would take 5 to 6 rounds of the igniter trying to light the gas before it would manage to work. I decided to look at it myself. I removed the blower and it was full of sand like buildup that had fallen down from the venting pipes. After cleaning that out and knocking as much of the buildup out of the pipes as I could (so it doesn't just keep falling into the blower) I put it back together and the furnace is functioning better again. It's very disappointing that I spend $300 on the one hour service and yet I still had to clean the furnace myself and had to replace my water heater. read more

I have an older cabin in the Soda Springs area and was looking to upgrade from wood to propane. I gave InMotion a call for an estimate. Chad showed up as scheduled and spent time looking around the cabin and figuring out how he could put in a heating system. I had a renter in the cabin at the time and she thought positively of him. Chad gave me a call later that day and talked about where he thought the furnace could be placed and how to run the ducting. Since the cabin was built in the mid-60s, it wasn't a case of just putting everything in the attic or through the walls. Also, our area can have snow from the ground up to covering the roof so that was another issue. After talking for a while, Chad told me that it might be easier to put in a heat pump with the Mitsubishi mini-split system. I lived in Japan for 6 years many years ago and these systems were very common, are efficient as well as quiet. I liked the idea as it eliminate many issues which come with propane and would probably cost the same or less to run. Chad got back to me with an initial ballpark quote that evening. I was very happy working with Chad and like the fact that he talked over my options without just choosing what he thought was best. His promptness is also a great asset and is rare quality these days. I would definitely recommend InMotion and Chad for any job. read more

I had new appliance delivered right after new years, when the installation guys went to install they found an issue with the gas connection at our home. We had planned to leave directly after the installation not for seeing any issues and trying to return to our primary residence prior to an incoming storm. I called InMotion in the hopes they would be available short notice and all and I have used for previous work and they were rated 5 star by me for that project as well. They were able to fit me in within enough a reasonable time. They were able to fix the issue, finish installing the unit and we were able to head back to the coast prior to the storm. In August, InMotion replaced our 40 year old hydronic boiler at our ski cabin located in the Sugar Bowl Village. Not only was the InMotion price competitive, of the 3 proposals received they provided by far the most detailed description of the work to be done. Needless to say, there have been many improvements to hydronic systems over the past 40 years. Chad Bogan, owner, did a first class job. He takes real pride in his work.
