Whether I've had a positive or negative experience with an establishment, I usually don't write reviews. If I find the service satisfying I would usually return and if there was any other case I wouldn't return. In this case, my girlfriend recommended that we try Five Star since we both enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and the combination of chicken/lamb over rice, but moreover because it was close to us and we normally have to travel to downtown Baltimore on a weekday outside of a hospital if we wanted some. So we thought we had won in the case after a long day of changing flat tires in the summer heat. Unfortunately this place didn't meet our expectations. First,when we walked in we noticed how the cashier seemed 'out of it,' as if she was intoxicated. Second, the price was a little more expensive than what we would normally pay. I believe anyone else would feel spoiled if they were use to paying $13 for two platters with free beverages opposed to paying $19.20 for two platters with no beverages. Third and the most important, THAT PLACE HAD BUGS. A fly or two or maybe some ants wouldn't phase me, but multiple kinds of flying bugs on the tables(alive and dead) can be bothersome if you are trusting someone to serve you food. They were on the tables, floors, dead in the windows and simply flying around. Sad to say but the pictures I posted is from the ones I swatted away that were landing on me as we waited. Again, I usually keep my opinions about restaurants to myself unless its by word of mouth. However, I would recommend anyone craving Mediterranean cuisine or the simple chicken/lamb over rice platter to just stick with the food vendors in downtown Baltimore. Their service, food and personalities are way better. My home is just minutes away, literally 3 traffic lights, but when I sat down to eat my lamb was hot but the chicken was not. Maybe I have to try something else from them to be convinced, but I doubt I'll be returning. We just ordered $40 worth of food--2 orders of garlic naan, lamb korma, and lamb tikka masala. There korma isn't korma, it's brown and with no almonds or creamy based sauce. Both the korma and masala are filled with a gross amount of oil and are lacking lamb. The order of garlic naan was supposed to be 2 orders... They gave us one piece of garlic naan and one piece of regular naan. We paid as much as we normally do to eat at Mt Everest before the Groupon deal and only chose this place because it's really close to our house. order from them said it would be 45 minutes 2 hours past they deliver the food but forgot the pizza said will be back in 15 minutes an hour later they delivered the pizza. this place does not have very good customer service they didn't even offer an apology for my total order taking three hours.. Since ownership or management has changed the food has drastically improved. The bread was fresh on my coldcut, pizza is so good, their indian dishes are a local fav and theor cheeses steak subs are also yummy. Staff is nice, service is typically quick although we had a couple slow delivery issues. I will continue to order from here and you should too. read more

I pretty much use them for my Indian food in my neighborhood. Between February and now they increased the price of the Lamb Korma from $12.99 to $15.99 and the chicken tikka tandoori was $10.99 in February and is now $12.99. That's a big jump for a couple of months. Also missing items are becoming more and more frequent and when you do call them to get the item sent, sometimes it takes up to 3 hours unless you drive to them instead which makes the delivery charge pointless. I will just skip the Indian food for now and order something from Super Subs or Bella Vito's in Rosedale. read more

Now is pretty bad - portions have gotten smaller, texture of chicken smothered in the spicy tomato sauce was weird- perhaps old, reheated chicken? last two times the deserts were bad: baklava hard as a rock, and cheesecake was rancid. Not great. I ordered the rib-eye steak quesadilla and the steak was awful. Some pieces were just fat, others burnt and leathery. It was also drowned in so much oil that the bottom fold of the tortilla was a soggy mess. The jalapeño bites were good, but not anything special. Amazing Indian food. Seriously it's good and always fresh. The onion naan is homemade along with the somoas and the spice is delicious.

Not a fan so far! I ordered the wings and yes they were "jumbo" but very low quality chicken. Delivery man was very unfriendly.

The food here is amazing, and I love that there is halal options. My only issue is that it took literally an hour and they didn't notify us that it would take that long. I tried this place based on the mixed reviews. And I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a pizza and a combo rice (chick & lamb/ rice). Both were very good. The pizza was not overly seasoned and the sauce did not have a tinny taste. The crust wasn't thin or thick and it was cooked properly with the crust crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. We picked it up so cannot attest to delivery. As for the place itself, I did not see any signs of unwanted critters. Although the pla c email could use an update, there was no underlying odors, just food cooking. We will go back. read more

Food was relatively good (Indian food) however service is TERRIBLE!!!!! Not worth it. Called in an order at 11:40 for a few co-workers. Received part of the order 1.5 hours later, with several meals missing. After calling the restaurant the first woman I spoke to said she just didn't receive the orders, and to call customer service to receive a refund and then to reorder my food again!! Saying initially "so you want the food?" *yes please!!! I ordered it for a reason!* After speaking to the manager and telling her I have receipts of the purchase and that my card has already been charged, she explained that the orders went out with another driver and they would be there soon. The driver arrived over 30 mins later (over 2 hours after initially placing them order). And my meal was incorrect. I was told by the owner of the restaurant I would receive a refund if I contacted customer service. The customer service rep explained he had to call the restaurant to receive confirmation in order to process the refund. He calls me back and states the employee from this restaurant stated they understand the situation but will not refund the money, but will only offer 30% off my next order. (Like I'll ever order again). Final say: SKIP THIS PLACE. Not worth the wait, and management is terrible. read more

I have ordered so much food from this place. All the pizzas that I have ordered have been amazing (Greek, crab dip, chicken Tikka, pepperoni). I loved the loaded fries with cheese and bacon the first time I got them but the second time it was lacking the cheese sauce that goes under the shredded cheese. The Chicken Saag is amazingggg. If you have never had it, it is pretty much savory chicken resting in spinach with a very flavorful sauce. I get it with broccoli but it originally comes with rice. It is the best thing ever! I loved the calzone as well. Their dough is so fluffy and delicious. I got the chicken calzone but instead of the green peppers, I got broccoli. The fried chicken isn't what I am used to flavor-wise but it is still very good. I will say with all honesty that I wouldn't go to them for Italian food but for everything else they are the place to be. I only found out about this place from living in the area and getting the order menu in my door but I am so happy that I did because they are everything. The menu, including the one they brought with the order, states that the chicken and rice comes with YELLOW rice, but mine came with white rice instead. I ordered 2 extra white sauce on the side to dip my western fries but they decided to pour both of them over my chicken and rice. The chicken was not FRESH chicken but was cooked yesterday and reheated. The last time I ordered from there it was a cheeseburger sub with "FRESH GROUND BEEF". Trust me, I ran several burger joints over the years and the last time that burger was fresh was before it was frozen a year ago(and tough as leather). I ordered a pizza from them before; no taste. Don't waste your money here unless you want to be treated like a third world refugee and take what you are given, not what they advertise!! BTW, after inquiring with the manager I was told they don't even have YELLOW rice anyhow. Very disappointed. Order a gyro with sauce on side. They drowned the gyro. App sampler was cold and sogggy.
