All good besides the delivery part some people have do not knock and just leave at door for a reason please follow directions you never know if a baby is sleeping or dayshift worker etc or maybe someone is home alone and doesn't want anyone else to know or even are ordering to get there before they arrive home etc. I've ordered here before and didn't have this issue so it kinda upset me because I have a dog and didn't want her barking and waking up neighbors. People were: walking up and ordering (like me), picking up online orders, getting red-boxed pizzas flying out the door, coming in from deliveries, answering the phone, playing music, standing and waiting....all at once! Twenty years ago when I was a student at the University of Florida, I used to love Five Star Pizza and so did everyone I knew! It tasted like cardboard, but at $4.99 for a 16" plain cheese pie ($3.99 on the Monday following a Gator Football victory), you couldn't beat it! I passed through Gainesville last week for the first time in I don't know how long, so I had to stop at Five Star. First thing I noticed was that they were just as fast as they were 20 years ago. Back then if you ordered delivery whether on campus or off, it would usually arrive in 15 minutes on a regular weeknight (longer on the weekends). For this visit, I walked-in and ordered the typical 16" plain cheese pizza. The guy rang me up and told me that it would be about 10 minutes and then added, "Actually a little bit less. Only takes about 7 minutes in the oven". Next thing I noticed was that the price had gone up considerably in 20 years. Including tax, I paid $11.70 for a 16" plain cheese pizza. I couldn't believe it when he gave me my total. But I figured I hadn't had Five Star in years and may never have it again, so what the heck. But if it cost that much when I was in school I probably never would have ordered it. Last thing I noticed was that the pizza tasted a lot better than I had remembered. When I was a student, I knew Five Star wasn't good pizza, but I still enjoyed it. But when I tried it last week, I noted that either I had forgotten how good it was, or that it had gotten a lot better in 20 years. It still had the familiar flavor I was used to from Five Star. The crust and the cheese tasted pretty similar (but better). The crust was actualy similar to Papa John's crust. But the main difference was the sauce. There was a lot more sauce than I remembered there being during my college days, and it was a lot more flavorful. Overall, my favorite thing about Five Star is the nostalgia from my college days. And while it has gotten a lot better in 20 years, it is also a lot more expensive. I'm not sure whether or not it is worth what I paid. It probably wasn't, even though it was pretty good. But since I no longer live in Gainesville, there are a ton of options that are a lot better for about the same price, so if not for nostalgia, I probably would not pay $12 for Five Star. It definitely doesn't compare to pizza in the Northeast. But still, not bad. And definitely fast! read more

I have never been so upset with a business in all my life. I live 5 blocks south of this place and they will not deliver to my home, apparently because it is a majority minority neighborhood. I've lived here 4 years, and while its a mixed income/race area, its been a lovely place to be as a student. After I placed my order, I called about 45 minutes later to find out where it was, and was informed that "we don't deliver to your neighborhood due to crime issues" Really? I ended up having to pick the order up (yes even though its 5 blocks away - by that point I was sober AND pissed off) I think their delivery policy borders on racism and I hope you take that into account. The owner gave me some blah blah about crime - and yet, since I have seen the actual crime stats for where he DOES deliver (all around this small area) and know that those stats are much higher than where I live (I am grad student with access to that info) i know he is wrong. This is Boyfriend's pizza place. Boyfriend has issues with change, so this is now my pizza place. Boyfriend trys to be all healthy and limits himself to pizza every other week, which I find an unacceptably low pizza frequency. Then it occurred to me that I could have pizza without Boyfriend. So, for lunch the other day, I ordered myself a pizza. I went online because I have phone phobia. Their online system was confusing and difficult to work. But damned if I was going to call. I got my pick up order in and I got a confirmation email, saying my pizza was in preparation. It didn't give me an ETA. I chilled for 20 minutes and then set out to pick up my pizza. Man, that place is hard to find! I thought Google Maps was going to blow up my phone. It's sort of inside the block. That could totally be my issue. I'm new and very Google dependant. It's fine; I found it. I went in and got my pizza. Which I was pretty sure had been sitting there for 20 minutes. Boyfriend confirmed that was probably the case and that I should order and immediately go pick it up. Which is weird, as it is literally 4 minutes from the house. That's weird, right? Boyfriend told me this as he was eating my leftover pizza because apparently it doesn't count if he didn't order it himself. The pizza is good solid pizza. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. There's nothing spectacular about it. I gave them special instructions; they followed them. They have a lightly baked option that Boyfriend likes. That's weird, too, right? TL;DR - Awful customer service. They lost a loyal customer who ordered often and tipped drivers well. I'm relatively new to the Gainesville area and in my time here Five Star had become my go to pizza place. The pizza is good and most importantly, they open late. I get off work at 2am so that is what made me a loyal customer so quickly. First few times I ordered things went great. Then one night I order a pizza at about 11pm and I get a call telling me they are no longer delivering to my location after 10pm. Sure, ok, whatever. Thinking maybe they were just understaffed or lazy that night I ordered late night pizza at least 3 more times and it was delivered no problem. Then I order a pizza, second time in about 3 days, and get the call telling me they don't deliver to my location after 6pm which is bullshit because 3 days prior I had gotten pizza delivered from them at 12:45am. I went and picked up the pizza myself. Today, and what brings me here to leave a review, I order a pizza at 4:44pm (looking at my order info right now). Thats 1 hour and 16 minutes before they can no longer deliver. Plenty of time, right? And so I wait. 30 minutes, 1 hour. An hour and 30 minutes later it is after 6pm and no sign of my pizza. So I call. I get told despite the fact that I have my order confirmation email and number they have received no orders from me and that I need to place the order again. No apologies, no offers of free pizza or coupons after making me wait that long plus however long it would take to deliver a pizza again. I told them I am not going to pay for it again. The manages asks me to confirm that I have indeed been charged and to call back if I have. I check and I had been charged so I call back. He promises to deliver the pizza as soon as possible (again, no apologies) and I figure that's the end of that. It's past 6pm and he knows my address so I figure that he is graciously making an exception to the 6pm rule since it's THEIR FAULT that we are outside the delivery time window but as I'm about to hop in the shower I get another call telling me that they've cancelled my order because it is past 6pm and that my money will be refunded. My question is: HOW ARE YOU GOING TO REFUND AN ORDER THAT ACCORDING TO YOU DOES NOT EXIST IN YOUR SYSTEM? Or was that a lie to save face? read more
