As a Winter Texan from Winnipeg (Canada) I know of the likelihood of windshield "dings". But this time it turned out that my new vehicle had more than a "ding" - it quickly became an "L" shaped crack about ten inches long. I contacted a number of dealers to see if they had a) my windshield and b) facilities to replace it. I was given a number of leads, all of which went nowhere. I saw that "Fix-A-Crack" had postive Yelp reviews, so I phoned the owner, Steven Maples. Not only did he take a long time to track down all the info for me, but he was so patient as he explored all the possibilities. It turned out that my new vehicle windshield has Canadian specs that are different, and he wanted to ensure that I got the right replacement wth all the features. He asked me to call back in an hour as he explored the possibilities of having the Canadian windshield shipped down here. When that turned out to not be possible, he said he'd come by when he was in my neighbourhood - he's in McAllen, I'm in Weslaco. I was worried about the safety, so I asked if I could come to him. He invited me to his home where he had all the materials from his mobile unit. While his wife Alicia and puppy "Bitsy" entertained me, Steve worked for almost two hours to stop further cracking and then do what he coud to minimize the damage. He also found another "ding" I hadn't noticed, and fixed it since he was already "on a roll." When I wasn't having a great time enjoying their hospitality, Steve would explain everything he was doing. The end result seems to be terrific, and in the four days since the crack has stopped getting bigger - it was "growing" a bit every day before I went to him. We leave for Canada in just under two weeks, so of course we're hoping that all goes well and we can have it replaced when we get back. I will try to update this post when that happens. I can't say enough about how well I was treated. He could easily have sold me a replacement windshield, made money off me, and I would never have been the wiser - until of course I'd notice some features weren't working. But instead he worked on it where safety was his one and only concern. And whereas the other companies had quickly given me very high quotes and were anxious to get it done, Steve's quote had he been able to get the proper windshield was almost $200 less. And I won't say how much he charged me for the work he did - suffice it to say it was a bargain, even with a 20% tip. read more

I certainly did not expect to be treated this well by the people who fixed my windshield. Steven and Alicia are two of the nicest and most considerate people that I've ever met. They wouldn't take my payment without first getting a chance to show me their work. I had set up an appointment for them to come repair my windshield this morning at the bank where I work. When they came in to tell me that they were done, I was stuck in the middle of a conference call. I didn't want to keep them waiting so I tried to pay them assuming that the crack had been repaired. Most people would've just taken the money and left. As much as I insisted, they decided that they would come back instead when I was available so that they could show me what they did. When they came back, they explained it all in detail and even pointed out another crack on my windshield that I hadn't even noticed. Steven Maples is one of the most polite and professional people I've worked with. He came to my home, was here on time and after he finished installing my brand new windshield, he even vacuumed my car and washed my windows! I have been a missionary for almost 40 years and recently lost my husband. I have lived in the Rio Grande Valley for over 35 years. Anybody can do a windshield replacement, but it takes the right people to do it the way is supposed to be, this is one of the places that are certified to do this job. This is a locally owned and operated business that has a good grasp on customer service. Both Stephen and his wife were a pleasure to meet and chat with during the short repair period. The repair I needed was in a delicate spot. A chip from a rock on the highway occured at the outer edge of our windshield where it met the roof. Safelite turned me away and actually recommended Stephen as the problem was not compatible with their equipment. Stephen managed to stop the spread from becoming a major issue. I was going to work in the morning as usual, and a rock Little Rock hit my windshield... and it crack !! So I was like I get it fix when I get out of work ... but during the day the temperatures drop and spread the crack ! So I started calling to see if places that repair were open . On my way to an appointment on in Harlingen driving through the construction on I2 a rock hit my windshield and a crack started to spread. I went to Safelight and it was too big so they gave me the name of Fix-A-Crack in McAllen. They took me right in and in less than 30 minutes fixed my cracked windshield. Awesome service, they were quick to respond to my needs. I purchased a used vehicle with chips in the windshield. They came out on a Sunday and inspected the windshield. They were truly honest and told me that they had already been repaired. That they only needed to be filled so no water or dirt could get into the chips.
